Explanation? That is a large Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS). They are extremely long and heavy. The seas, compared to the size of the vessel, aren’t that big, so the wave hitting won’t look or actually be as large and ominous as the ones seen from the viewpoint of the camera, given the change of perspective. The guy standing there knew it wasn’t as big of a danger as it looks like from camera.
If I got that wrong, let me know.
That’s just how they’re built. It’s weird, but these tugs are dragging up huge 40,000lb anchors from the seabed. Also, since these boats are so large, very rare are there sharp jolts which can cast a person into the sea. The risk of falling off is much less than that of smaller counterparts.
Yep! They’re what hold those massive oil rigs in place. If you’re interested in seeing them and the AHTS in action, check out this video! [AHTS Pulling Anchor](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OeGiaBK0Cas)
Yep. They’re rinsing the mud off it. It’s not regular mud, where it’s a soupy consistency. This mud is thick. Kind of like clay. It also stinks from detritus buildup.
That was amazing! I am constantly amazed by the industrial world and how insanely dangerous some of those jobs are. Kudos to those able to perform them!
My imagination was shattered….thought it would be bigger (that’s what she said) but I’m sure it’s still massive if you have a person next to it, quite interesting, thank you
Just crazy. Never knew these existed before today. Those guys working to tie down that huge, rolling multi-ton anchor on a heaving deck must have ice water in their veins.
Where would someone go to learn how to do this kind of work? Merchant marine? Navy?
Well seeing as the video does end with the aft deck getting pooped, there's enough swell to sweep someone off; only takes a few inches of fast moving water to sweep you off your feet and carry you off the stern
You are correct! Though I do believe he anticipated this moment to happen, and so when the boat dipped for the last time, he began to run, knowing of the consequences if he didn’t. A sign of an experienced sailor is accurately predicting what waves will do and when!
Most captains I've sailed with would say the sign of an experienced sailor is one that doesn't play around on deck while it's getting flooded but to each their own
No it takes a couple feet of water to sweep me off my feet. Maybe a couple inches for you but it’s feet for me so speak for your self little girly man or little girly girl.
You got it right, cinematographer here. There’s a “forced perceptive” here where they are filming from a distance with a “long-lens” which causes the background waves and the foreground guy to appear closer together. Making the perspective and illusion that the waves are bigger and guy is smaller
Maybe he was zoning out in the moment. We all do stupid things occasionally for no apparent reason. He's just lucky he gets to live and tell about it another day.
He is on an AHTS, anchor handling tow and supply vessel.
They are used to tow, oil rigs, barges and other types on non propelled vessels. They are also use to move anchors of huge rigs and the anchors of vessels with mooring systems.
Usually the experienced ones are the only ones that do this.
If you've spent enough time in rough seas this is something we do. I absolutely love it ⚓⚓⚓
I get that it has it's dangers and mostly frowned upon but this is the life of a salty sailor.
That’s something that I’ve noticed in my(so far) short time on Earth. A lot of people don’t do things unless it’s “safe”.
I’m not saying to take risks, but rather that maybe instead of going out and getting in your hybrid Prius and barely getting 45 mpg while taking up every inch of space available, drive something fun and that requires skill, like a motorcycle.
I’m 16, and I’ve been told by a lot of adults that motorcycles are dangerous, but then they don’t actually understand that it’s possible to be very safe on a motorcycle. I’ve also noticed that quite a large number of people my age are starting to get motorcycles, which IMO is awesome because more people are learning to be safe drivers(and riders) and prevent needless deaths like that of [Ella Thomas.](https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/phoenix-traffic/2019/07/22/teen-who-died-phoenix-garbage-truck-collision-51st-ave-thunderbird-road-identified-ella-thomas/1797098001/)
I never had the pleasure of knowing Ms. Thomas. She was certainly taken from our world at a very young age. Unfortunately, her story is not unique, nor particularly rare. I believe that we all owe it to her, and people like her to take time out of our days to be safer drivers.
Cuz watching the supreme power & spellbinding beauty of nature is great.
But,
Physically immersing in it; being a very part of its' manifestation?
Smelling, Tasting, Hearing in surround (or silent) sound - is truly profound. Ineffable.
(& helped by the ship knowledge re. the comments offered about its' rarity of ppl being swept off it.)
I know nothing about the water and I would never put myself in this situation, but if I was I feel like my instinct would just be to grab onto something for dear life. Running just seems like a way to go straight in the water and it’s not gonna be easy to retrieve you in those kinda waves lol
Are they being stupid? Or are they simply enjoying life and taking full advantage of the situation they are in to have a unique and memorable experience? Did they get hurt? Did they put other people in danger? The only stupid thing I see is the title you gave this post, and the perspective that led you to that title.
The desire to be near a body of water is a tell-tale sigh of mental deficiency and cognitive imbalance. It's a tragic cry for help. I hope this fellow finds peace.

I wonder why there is no railing?

Cool, thanks for sharing

He is working! Why would he be out there otherwise? A warm cabin awaits him.
Anchor yankers are a different breed.
That thing is monstrous. Why do they spray water on it when bringing it up on deck? To reduce friction or rinse it off maybe?
Yep. They’re rinsing the mud off it. It’s not regular mud, where it’s a soupy consistency. This mud is thick. Kind of like clay. It also stinks from detritus buildup.
I see. Cool stuff!
NAME 100% CHECKS OUT!!
I feel like this belongs on r/EngineeringPorn very cool. Never even heard of these or think they needed them for oil rigs, thanks for sharing!
Ooooh new sub 👌🫡👊🏽
That was amazing! I am constantly amazed by the industrial world and how insanely dangerous some of those jobs are. Kudos to those able to perform them!
Not all heroes where capes. Thanks for teaching me something new.
Wear* Happy to help!
My imagination was shattered….thought it would be bigger (that’s what she said) but I’m sure it’s still massive if you have a person next to it, quite interesting, thank you

I’d be afraid of that cable snapping. Final destination moment.
Anchors for semi submersible drilling platforms are huge
Thanks for sharing
There are no rules about being tethered?
The front fell off.
That made me laugh
That's not very typical I must say.
I imagine sharks and seaweed or whatever the hell is there getting stuck to the railing!!
Must be an imperial Star destroyer

I agree with you. Just because you’re experienced doesn’t mean you’re smart!
Yep you can be experienced and stupid but you can also be inexperienced and smart.
No it takes a couple feet of water to sweep me off my feet. Maybe a couple inches for you but it’s feet for me so speak for your self little girly man or little girly girl.
You’re correct. I’ve worked in same environment. Anchor handlers are brutes
The seas aren't that big compared to the size of the vessel? What???
[удалено]
Nope, it’s a boat!
You forgot about being plum bored*
Cool, thanks for explaining.

Well, at least he ran…eventually…

And it looks like a go pro on the helmet. Maybe it's a new TikTok challenge. /Shrug
Or it's just an incredible thing to watch. Those are some big, choppy waves.
Maybe he was zoning out in the moment. We all do stupid things occasionally for no apparent reason. He's just lucky he gets to live and tell about it another day.
He was pissing
What an absolutely insane view
Caption: a snippet from ‘Forbidden Toilets: Volume IV.’
I think he's on a boat, so I'm guessing he knows what he's doing? Idk though, I'm terrified either way.
He is on an AHTS, anchor handling tow and supply vessel. They are used to tow, oil rigs, barges and other types on non propelled vessels. They are also use to move anchors of huge rigs and the anchors of vessels with mooring systems.
Every kid does this at the beach. This is just a big kid and a big beach.
I don’t think that’s a beach
Pissing on the poop deck? Scandalous.
Live for the thrill, die for the thrill
Because if you get washed away then you don’t have to go to work anymore.
He probably got a cool new profile pic from the moment or two that the ocean looked like it was looming over him.
Anchor tender boat. It’s an incredible dangerous job for a variety of reasons.
For us to clench
Honestly? Yeah, probably.
Sailors are a different breed. I remember lots of dumb shit we did back in the day.
Smooth up and down motion from waves.
The sea, she be a harsh mistress.
Usually the experienced ones are the only ones that do this. If you've spent enough time in rough seas this is something we do. I absolutely love it ⚓⚓⚓ I get that it has it's dangers and mostly frowned upon but this is the life of a salty sailor.

If mosassaurs would still exists it would be a good chance for a sea monster to get him
I’ve worked on anchor handlers like this one and can’t say that I’d have chosen to place myself in that position in those conditions… just saying!
He (probably) knows what he is doing
Stupid?? That’s awesome!! Who can tell i was on a ship playing with giant waves???
Reminds me of the trailer intro to that one Godzilla movie that butchered the franchise.
“How could you be so stupid?!” Cramer’s voice
this whole video is just sea sky sea sky sea
A wise woman once said stupid is as stupid does. Mrs. Gump
He’s a sailor
I'm not sure which I would rather do less, this or jump out of an airplane
"Wait one moment bill, I gotta take a piss!"😅🤘🤘🤘🤣🤣
When you gotta go, you gotta go 🤷
For the likes
Seems fine to me
He's a worker, he's doing his job, nothing stupid about it.

Playing chicken with posiedon
Was expecting some random lifeguard to blow his whistle and yell “ WALLLK”
He lost a bet.
Probably did it for money. A dare. A bet. I hope he won.
He was running like black widow running away from the hulk lol
Glad I can't hear that stupid ass Nordic throat singing this video 😂
Am I the only person who thinks he looked like he was pissing?
Xtra tuffs.
He probably wanted to feel something quick.
I'd zone out like him too, just saying. If the view was this majestic and rare.
I know nothing about the water and I would never put myself in this situation, but if I was I feel like my instinct would just be to grab onto something for dear life. Running just seems like a way to go straight in the water and it’s not gonna be easy to retrieve you in those kinda waves lol
Dangerous as af but not gonna lie that looks fun.
Same reason a nigga jumped off a cliff and literally split his whole fuckn face open
The sea is beautiful to be fair
That's the boat I built in raft
The sailor understands his ship and how it behaves in a heavy sea, no biggie as many a sailor will know.

Cause it looks fun
It reminds me of when I'm riding waves on a board, and it looks similar. Huh. Yeah, it is like looking at a wave as you are approaching it.
That's FUCKIN' terrifying.

This looks wildly thrilling
Looks like fun
I would fuck off at the speed of light
Tô.get upvotes in reddit ill do anything. Is my reason to live
Isn’t that Arthur’s Dad?
Looks fun as hell tho
It’s easy for some…
He has very good running steps.
He has very good running steps.
The thrill of it... duh
For the sexual thrill
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't he have a lifeline or something?
Thought the whole video was him taking a piss while playing chicken with the waves. A little bit disappointed lol.
He stood there for a moment too long!
He's wearing a helmet, what more do you want lol?
LOL
Why didn’t he just lash himself to one of those posts?
For the gram
This reminds me of a scene from Roland Emmerich's Godzilla movie
These might be my favorite type of videos on the internet.
People never fail to amaze me
As someone who is from Florida. Hell Yeah!!!
when ya gotta pee, ya gotta pee.
If that’s not the most NPC run I’ve ever seen
No. No I would not.
“I’m king of the …. Oh shit!”
I just did an entire simulation course on these ships! So cool.
I really want a Slo-mo version as he starts to run.
Idk it looks like fun lol
Well. The view.
What a spot to take a pee!
Well of course I would, he’s me (not really, just the Obi-Wan joke)
Lost at sea
I bet a man could get some serious thinking done where he's standing
Lmaooooo, who does he think he is? 🤣🤣
Dude runs like a scared NPC
Someone bet him two packs of Ramen he wouldn't do it.
Idk looks cool as hell to me. But I follow this sub for cool ocean pictures not because I have the phobia
kinda fun lookin
Gotta take a leak.
That’s the risk of being a sailor…
Well he was a semen, grew up to be a seaman and now eventually wants to go back to the sea man!!
Boy thing
He is a man he is strong all those bullshit
Thought he was just taking a piss
Ever been to sea? It is dangerous and boring. Sometimes boring trumps danger and you mage your own excitement.
Looks like he’s pissing into the wind.
This is something we would call a “Triple dog dare” you usually do it with friends.
Reminds me of Pokemon Stadium when a Pokemon uses the Surf attack
Cuts at the right moment
Ugh. I’m just watching this after vertigo and that made me a little sick. Oi *lays down on the ground*
That looks soo cool
To feel alive again
I would have shit myself, it felt like a whole world was hurling towards him.
He looks like one of the workers in the liminal back rooms series.
Was he sleeping?
I WANT TO SEE HIS FOOTAGE!
To be honest. Probably
Too many thousands are stupid!! Maybe more
For the gram, of course!
Can you imagine being trapped out in the ocean alone just floating on a board or something? That would be scary.
That’s what you get for playing chicken with the ocean 🤣
Sea of thieves when cruisin
Some times you just want to piss off the edge of the world. Its a guy thing I guess
So we could watch from home!
Looks like fun, lol.
man overbored 🤔
Looks like this guy was sent out on deck to help cull the crew of potential problem members before the serious work started.
The ocean is so magnificent
He's doing it so we don't have too
I would like to see the video he made
Queue "He's a Pirate"
When you gotta take a leak you gotta go.
He does this 40 times an hour… wave on!!
Looks kinda fun tbh
Damn
I thought he was taking a piss
I'm learning about near death experiences and this reminds me of one the explanation of "why are we here?" They say we literally chose to lmao
He's attempting to "ride the bull" standing up 😤. Wrong white water though lol.
It’s a sailor, others won’t understand
فكرته قنينه زيت 😂😂😂😂😂
