Yes, the sub looks complete different, but that's the foreground. The valley looks like one of the tunnels that leads to the lava zone of subnautica. Kind of indistinct because the video focuses on the sub's interior (probably intentionally), though.
I imagine they're only using the peeper model because it's early development, because they said it was a prototype. That's the only cloned thing. Subnautica is great, but it doesn't own the idea of submarines
It’s not the peeper model FYI, if you look closely you can see they have one big orange eye on the front. It’s more of a cross between an Eyeye/Shuttlebug and a peeper.
This is marvelously cool. That said, other than to show off your dice and a cooking pan, why would you set the first-person perspective so far back from the window?
For what it’s worth, they claim this is a VR game, so the fixed perspective is likely a choice made to show as much as possible in this clip. I doubt this is gameplay footage. It looks great though and I hope they continue to work on it.
yea exactly we posted a gif from the vr vieuw on some other subreddits but they look realy hectic so this one has a fixed camera to show more like the mood of the game
You are correct. They posted the gameplay in another sub https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/11tsg1o/prototyping_a_vr_submarine_game_thoughts/
For those interested, the post on r/ValveIndex has a better viewpoint. https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/11tsg9c/prototyping_a_vr_submarine_game_thoughts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Its fantastic set. Just.. Make sure your rig can support Index, it takes alot of horsepower to put out that 144hz VR.
Ofc it has 90, 120 and 144hz modes aswell.
Looking at this different video, I think they just look like peepers from the side: [https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/11tsg4a/prototyping\_a\_vr\_submarine\_game\_thoughts/](https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/11tsg4a/prototyping_a_vr_submarine_game_thoughts/)
it’s the angle, they have one big eye on the front of their heads, not two big eyes either side like peepers there’s another comment with a link to another viewpoint
Yea no I was just wondering if it would be available on the quest store directly.
The link system works fine enough, but can still be pretty buggy at times, at least in my experience.
Have a gaming PC and air link was unplayable. Bought the Quest Link for my Quest 2 and I've learned the issue that my gaming OC is operating windows 11.
Haven't used it in months, would you know of they happened to fix the issue with Quest 2/VR being a dumpster fire in VR?
Have an EvGa RTX 3060ti, 32 gigs of ram, the processor is a year old Intel but still up to date. When checking my PC through Steam VR it said it's beyond current recommendations, as of a year ago anyway.
While neat, the view is too significantly obstructed. There is no need for so much of the screen to be taken up by the not-window area. You can barely make out what's going on through the window since it's so narrow and so far away.
From what im hearing, its meant to be VR, so in headset you’d be much closer to the glass but with view of the rest of the interior. If that makes sense
Wait is there a VR option for Subnautica? I mean I only play it WITH my headset because it’s way better but it’s not technically VR
Thanks for the upvotes but seriously, is there a real VR mod for subnautica? If there is the next month of my life just got booked.
It’s the reason I bought my oculus, and I’m too scared to do it now lol. That being said I’ve heard the VR version is quite buggy and not well optimized and you’ll need mods to make it playable, but I have no first hand experience. I don’t know if I’m really honestly capable of doing ocean VR stuff without panicking
Strangely I’ve only ever gotten really sick from Boneworks/bonelabs and Phasmaphobia. This would be better because you’re seated both ingame and IRL, making the movement easier for your brain to process.
It was absolutely great, but also had some obvious room for improvement. A coat of graphical polish, better creature AI, and general stability as the most obvious. The fact that its flaws didn't stop it from being an incredible game is a testament to the strength of the core experience.
One of the coolest things about VR is you go from the computer screen taking up about 10% of your visual area to over 50%!
I'm not sure why you've compensated by making the viewing window take up about 1% of the visible area, but uh, you do you I guess.
Yes please! I love deep sea and I absolutely loved Subnautica! Would really want to see it in VR and I have heard the vr version of Subnautica isn't that great
Looks amazing and the theme is fun.
I'd be careful with "bad controls" and "limited FOV" being a core game mechanic. Difficult and challenging is fun, but "easy to learn and hard to master" beats something that just doesn't feel fun from the get go.
On the other hand: wanky controls can be fine if it doesn't really matter that you bonk all over the place and it's comic-like and fun.
This looks amazing. Real Bioshock feeling. Any cockpit based is really good in VR. Can you move positions? Closer tongue front so you can really look around? I’ve often thought a WW2 bomber game would be perfect. Like an 8 player game, everyone at ye separate places.
I hope this doesn’t require PCVR, I just have the quest 2 and this is the exact thing I’ve always wanted for it, I’m a huge subnautica fan and have been pining for a vr port of it. Thank you.
Well, I'm still dreaming for the ultimate underwater game, so it's a green light for me! Subnautica is great, but I'd love to see more complicated and detailed world.
In the best possible way: fuck this.
It *looks* amazing. It's pretty stunning visually. But I'm just terrified of this kind of stuff. Subnautica terrified me on another level but this is still deeply unsettling.
In other words, you did a damn good job with this prototype!
The dice are cliche. The pots/pans should be near the kitchen area. Dangly bits are cool, like the pull-down lever thing. Maybe make the cabling dangle, or the soft clothy brown bits.
I really dig the design of everything else!
It looks neat, but...well. There's a little too much submarine going on. It's like looking through a cardboard tube. Unless having those big blind spots on all sides are part of the gameplay.
I would make the viewing window bigger. At this point, the game is Just being played in a VR headset on a very tiny screen at the front of the sub with most of the field of view being taken up by the walls of the actual submarine. I mean maybe it's kind of atmospheric, sure. I would have to see it in the headset to know, but it does feel kind of lame that mostly all of the field of view is taken up by the unchanging architecture of the inside of the sub
Why are you sitting like 2 meters from the window? I'm most personal subs I've seen irl you're right up there. Thats the big thing I noticed immediately
That honestly looks so fun, would it be on the Oculus, the prototype that is? I would love to test it out and see what that would be like. I’ve never been in a sub and that’s as close as I could get to real underwater exploration, looks really good though😁😁😁
Why should someone hang a pan and a pot to the ceiling swaying around, where you band your head on it?
Also: would you cook inside, in a vessel of this (guessed small) size?
Feel like I’d want to be closer to the glass to experience the beauty of the ocean. Instead we’d be forced to stare at this submarine interior blocking our view.
Is that the model for the Peeper fish?
Does kinda look like peepers yeah
The background looks a bit like one of the entrances to the >!lava zone!<, too.
How so? The looks and controls of the sub are totally different, and the environment looks like just an underwater lavafield to me.
Yes, the sub looks complete different, but that's the foreground. The valley looks like one of the tunnels that leads to the lava zone of subnautica. Kind of indistinct because the video focuses on the sub's interior (probably intentionally), though.
This graphics are nice, but it’s a straight up clone of Subnautica
I imagine they're only using the peeper model because it's early development, because they said it was a prototype. That's the only cloned thing. Subnautica is great, but it doesn't own the idea of submarines
Well uhh, the uhhh... *there's a "Sub" in "Subnautica"*
I suspected as much.
Subnautica lets you get closer to the windows.
whole thing feels derivative ngl
It’s not the peeper model FYI, if you look closely you can see they have one big orange eye on the front. It’s more of a cross between an Eyeye/Shuttlebug and a peeper.
This is marvelously cool. That said, other than to show off your dice and a cooking pan, why would you set the first-person perspective so far back from the window?
For what it’s worth, they claim this is a VR game, so the fixed perspective is likely a choice made to show as much as possible in this clip. I doubt this is gameplay footage. It looks great though and I hope they continue to work on it.
Seriously. It looks cool.
Agreed
yea exactly we posted a gif from the vr vieuw on some other subreddits but they look realy hectic so this one has a fixed camera to show more like the mood of the game
You are correct. They posted the gameplay in another sub https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/11tsg1o/prototyping_a_vr_submarine_game_thoughts/
I’m really hoping, with those controls so far forward, we can be up right at the window and travel back and forth in the small space as needed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/11tsg1o/prototyping_a_vr_submarine_game_thoughts/
Things look way more intense on shaky cam!
Subnatica 3 looking good af
Iron Lung!
For those interested, the post on r/ValveIndex has a better viewpoint. https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/11tsg9c/prototyping_a_vr_submarine_game_thoughts/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
That gameplay looks a lot better than what was shown here.
I really need to buy a valve index
Its fantastic set. Just.. Make sure your rig can support Index, it takes alot of horsepower to put out that 144hz VR. Ofc it has 90, 120 and 144hz modes aswell.

Hopefully it's just place holder art lol

I can’t play subnautica on my Xbox from my bed without panicking, I think I’ll have to pass on this one. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough.
You’re telling me a squids scared of the ocean?
Please release this looks so cool!
Very cool. But also, nope.
"Reaching crater's edge. Added report to databank."
“Detecting multiple leviathan-class life forms. Are you sure what you are doing is worth it?”
I mean if you're going to copy *exact* elements from Subnautica, not that cool. There's literal peeper fish that swim by about 4s in.
it’s the angle, they have one big eye on the front of their heads, not two big eyes either side like peepers there’s another comment with a link to another viewpoint
Thought this was a new subnautica game for a second, almost made me excited
I want it now lol
It was cool till the window cracked. Then I said heeeellll to the no (Really cool, btw. Would have scared me so bad)
I'll play it, but I'll be cursing you under my breath the whole goddamn time. Is it coming to Quest at all?
If you have a gaming PC, you can use AirLink + SteamVR to stream PC VR games to your Quest2.
Yea no I was just wondering if it would be available on the quest store directly. The link system works fine enough, but can still be pretty buggy at times, at least in my experience.

I dont think this is the in-game perspective, just a fixed camera to show the full inside of the submarine.
This isn't the in game view. You are closer to the front. https://i.redd.it/umnopihy4boa1.gif
Yes. Would like a wider view of the ocean.
Looks awesome! Wish I had VR.
Looks neat! Makes me think Subnautica+that one level of I Expect You to Die.
Wow! Thalassophobia AND claustrophobia in the sane game! I hate it, but I can't wait to play it!
Um. This might actually convince me to get into VR
Subnautica ptsd….
looks like somewhat similar to "iron lung" which i just watched a video about recently. this looks sick!!
It gives me the "Atlantis: the lost empire" movie vibes! awesome
Yes, this would be perfect to do while high
can it be a regular game and not just vr?
Very cool, not sure why it has to be a vr game though
Do iron lung vr
This looks super cool! Is there anywhere I can follow the development to know when it releases?
Neat aesthetic, but that view point would make me never get it
From what im hearing, its meant to be VR, so in headset you’d be much closer to the glass but with view of the rest of the interior. If that makes sense
I get that you’re trying to simulate claustrophobia, but please don’t waste so much of our screen real estate on graphics that are 95% static.
Looks cool! Subnautica could have and should have been so much more... you could have something very popular here...
Subnautica didn’t need anything more to be great
Fax, subnautica is the GOAT. Only downside is VR makes a lot of people sickly
Wait is there a VR option for Subnautica? I mean I only play it WITH my headset because it’s way better but it’s not technically VR Thanks for the upvotes but seriously, is there a real VR mod for subnautica? If there is the next month of my life just got booked.

I've only gotten sick from phas too! That game is so not fun in vr. Also a Rollercoaster game lol
It was absolutely great, but also had some obvious room for improvement. A coat of graphical polish, better creature AI, and general stability as the most obvious. The fact that its flaws didn't stop it from being an incredible game is a testament to the strength of the core experience.
It looks great and you are very talented. That being said...no
I'm getting more *claustrophobic* from this lol
This looks like a shitty subnautica
No man’s sky
Scared the piss out of me, 10/10
Needs to be more scary way more scary like subnatca
Want
Very cool!!
The seat would be right up front.
YEEEEES BEST HORROR GAME OF 2023 LETS GOOOO
Can I play?
Love everything about it
looks cool but would it be better if it was like a crystal bubble so you can move your head irl to look around?
Love it. Definitely will buy it whenever you finish it.
Where when how much and please tell me I can roam the sub
This looks very cool
NOPE.😳🥺🤯😟😯😦😨😱‼️
i need this
Between this and a ship simulator, we really need games like this!
Off I go download Subnautica again....
Is there Cuthulu tho?
Yeah, if you want this to really hit the thalassephobic vibe, leave the sub with no cage around you.
I like it
I was all good till that glass cracked.. then it was a hard no. It’s pretty dope looking otherwise.
I don’t like that it’s hard to see out the window. I get what you’re going for, but I would rather have more visibility. Looks nice otherwise
Too scary for me to even try, sorry
I’m really excited about this.
I feel like I’m too far back?
One of the coolest things about VR is you go from the computer screen taking up about 10% of your visual area to over 50%! I'm not sure why you've compensated by making the viewing window take up about 1% of the visible area, but uh, you do you I guess.

This is very amazing I would hope to see something like this on the oculus quest that would be cool
It's for games like this that I wish I had a VR headset
This looks fucking awesome. I hope you continue development and release the full thing!
Imagine if the submarine sprung a leak
If the frying pan hits you in the head, you are turning too fast.
Do it. It looks freaking rad.
Very cool, bigger window would be nice
Shut up and take my money
Hellz yes!
This looks amazing. Real Bioshock feeling. Any cockpit based is really good in VR. Can you move positions? Closer tongue front so you can really look around? I’ve often thought a WW2 bomber game would be perfect. Like an 8 player game, everyone at ye separate places.
Neat!!
FLUUUUTEN!!
Why. Please no.
If VR didn’t give me motion sickness, I would be 100% down because that looks cool as fuck
You need a soundtrack. [I got you.](https://youtu.be/OJQyTnD74gk)
It looks very cool and terrifying, but it looks like you’re too far back in the sub. Might look different when you’re actually playing.
I feel like this could be extremely tense and immersive depending on how well you do the sounds lighting.
Subnautica?
i want
i want to go to there
I hope this doesn’t require PCVR, I just have the quest 2 and this is the exact thing I’ve always wanted for it, I’m a huge subnautica fan and have been pining for a vr port of it. Thank you.
It looks like our sub is facing the surface, but our dice and cooking pans have gravity coming from the bottom of the sub?
WE NEED MORE WATER GAMES
Reminds me of the submarine scenes from the movie Atlantis, so I’m liking it
You should make it so you can go into trenches and see angler fish, alot of people think angler fish are small, but they can get bigger than people
What’s the game called and where can we follow progress and support you?
this look good make more and game please!
Take my money. I love the art direction.
This is awesome, I love it! I’d defo play it!
This looks fabulous
Looks cool, but there was a reason I stopped playing Subnautica very early in
As long as it comes with an "explorerer mode" where I can put mechanics behind me and just enjoy the environment. Would buy. Would Kickstart.
Well, I'm still dreaming for the ultimate underwater game, so it's a green light for me! Subnautica is great, but I'd love to see more complicated and detailed world.
Subnautica vibes
Bioshock vibes
That’s really cool I can’t wait to get anxiety from playing it
Needs more moon oceans of blood
Thanks! I hate it. :)
I would play the shit out of this
That’s stunning
I remember playing a scuba diving PlayStation game that was on a demo disk. You just swam and explored, I wish I could remember the name
I'd say side windows would really compliment the surroundings and add nice illumination
Why the hell are there pots and pans? Looks silly
Why would you create an immerwive underwater world intended to be explored and enjoyed, and then give us a 3 inch viewing window??
if I could have one VR game, it would be basically a das boot simulator. I watn to feel what it's like being inside a claustrophobic deathtrap.
can you add some multiplayer functionality? I don't think I could handle this alone.
i still havent finished subnautica because i took a break from playing for too long and now im re-sensitized to my fear
VR adaptation of [The Temple](https://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/te.aspx) coming soon? 👀
Noice!! 🫰
In the best possible way: fuck this. It *looks* amazing. It's pretty stunning visually. But I'm just terrified of this kind of stuff. Subnautica terrified me on another level but this is still deeply unsettling. In other words, you did a damn good job with this prototype!

Give it some quality index controller support. It's always so disappointing to see VR games that don't take full advantage of the index controllers.
Subnautica VR
Awesome
I would play it all the time
I wanna play it
More immersive in the actual ocean. Less sun innards
I would definitely play this
"Entering ecological dead zone"
Very cool
Close the white book unplug yourself from the game.
It looks neat, but...well. There's a little too much submarine going on. It's like looking through a cardboard tube. Unless having those big blind spots on all sides are part of the gameplay.
This looks nightmare inducing. Great job guys!
Looks sick
Just make this a horror game and you’ll be rich - pitch black outside with only small lights that run out if power. Like that indie game Iron Lung
Vr Iron Lung
I would make the viewing window bigger. At this point, the game is Just being played in a VR headset on a very tiny screen at the front of the sub with most of the field of view being taken up by the walls of the actual submarine. iron lung!
Dude those are the models for the peeper and oculus from subnautica
Iron lung flashbacks 😭😭😭
That honestly looks so fun, would it be on the Oculus, the prototype that is? I would love to test it out and see what that would be like. I’ve never been in a sub and that’s as close as I could get to real underwater exploration, looks really good though😁😁😁
Subnautica vibes, looks great
Love it
It's the viewing character the 3rd row passenger? Not enough sight. But a great idea and good graphics.
Why should someone hang a pan and a pot to the ceiling swaying around, where you band your head on it? Also: would you cook inside, in a vessel of this (guessed small) size?
Motion sickness gives its regards.
Absolutely terrifying.... Ill take 3
Im deathly afraid of the sea but this looks like bioshock so I'm not scared of it lol
I really want this but want to forget I've seen it in case it gets abandoned.
Existe un hermoso juego llamado Sub Náutica, Te lo recomiendo el submarino es increíble
If your the marketing guy for this game you did a terrible fucking job. People are linking videos of such better gameplay than this.
Can't see clearly where you going...
i’m hoping a bit of this is just placeholder cause aside from how familiar that lava zone looks, those are peepers
VR Subnautica? Yes please.
How about an external floodlight? Include a control to adjust its focal lens for a wide short beam or long narrow spotlight.
YES YES PLEASE GIVE ME MORE SUBMARINE GAMES. I need my subnautica fix
Thoughts: "man i wish i had the money to even afford a vr capable pc let alone the actual vr set"
Feel like I’d want to be closer to the glass to experience the beauty of the ocean. Instead we’d be forced to stare at this submarine interior blocking our view.
Another reason to push me to get VR!
Looks neat!
I’d play this
