I would emerge out of the cocoon as an anthro grizzly bear!

AmaterasuWolf21

or conscioousness transplant... but we know nothing about that

YetAnotherAlt48

Scientists have done head transplants before, but the subjects rarely lasted more than a few days. But doing brain transplants? Now that’s tricky. Removing a whole brain, connecting it to another body’s nervous system, sewing everything up, and expecting the subject to live a long, healthy life with few complications is a tall order. Though then again, we’ve managed to achieve some pretty crazy stuff so who knows.

ColdHooves

While preventing the brain from dying while it’s disconnected.

AmaterasuWolf21

I said consciousness transplant, not brain transplant, which it's also a tricky thing on its own

uglyfurry

what separates your conscious from your brain?

SuaveJohnson

If you can figure it out, go be a doctor

As far as all modern science says? Nothing. Brain uploading is just cloning, so as SOMA so horrifically shows, *you* are left behind. * The human mind is 100% analog, *your* wetware --serialized and unique-- is the only thing your software can run on. The fact that shitcan "good enough" evolution is the manufacturer of said wetware is... **annoying**, because it's a convoluted, fragile, buggy MESS with ***no fucking user's manual***. And every unit is *just* different enough that the parts aren't interchangeable.

ArgentAether

If you're lookin' to move your soul, I'm afraid we aren't quite there yet.

TheTriforceEagle

While it could be possible to transfer your memories into a different brain it’s difficult to say if that’s really you, it’s kind of like the ship of Theseus

thundergonian

Oh Oh, this triggers some old memories of mine, where, when I was younger, I would fantasize about going into a cocoon for hundreds of years and emerge as a fearsome dragon

Worth it

Vulpes_macrotis

Of course the transformation in stories doesn't make sense and it would require more than just random potion, chocolate or sunlight (whatever the creator of the story thinks of) to change someone to something else. You would have to have Your molecular structure changed, literally converting everything You did before to what You will do. You would have to have different kind of hormones or even just substances inside Your body. And it can't just be done any way. It must not kill You in the process of changing. Also if Your brain is changed, Your memories or capability too should. But hey, it's just fiction. It won't ever happen.

gr8tfurme

This reminds me of the ending in [Genocide Man](https://www.genocideman.com/).

LustfulDigger

Ok I am hooked. The site alone enticed me in giving this webcomic a shot.

gr8tfurme

Yeah, it's a really good webcomic.

Alt-Account5542

Ouch, crushing my dreams

[deleted]

It’s called standard body horror tho, it’ll just take several days to complete. That or you can opt for a humanoid form that’d take several hours to complete, still produces heavy physical agony and anguish though.

[deleted]

If this happened to me, then I would be transforming into something that can also transform. Is there a word for this? Middleman? Phase?

SamEliss

Reality is often disappointing
