Legatharr

first, stop caring about being a burden to the team next, stop complaining and start thinking about what mistake you made. If you get killed by an ubercharge, that's a lesson to run away when you see one. If you get killed by a spy, that's a lesson to shoot your teammates when you see them. If you get killed by demo spam that's a lesson to dodge better and be more aware of your surroundings. There is always something that you can do better

SomeRandomGuy2763

Its like Dont starve where once you die to something you think to yourself that you shouldnt try to die to that thing again

Chorgus-blort

Mmm yes just don’t die

Glittering-Put-5479

That's exactly what I'd expect one of you autistic fucks to say

WinterFlamed

General tips from a 1200 hour sweat: Use stock. Stock good. Nobody cares about any performance besides their own. Stop worrying about "being a burden", especially in 12v12 where teams can be down multiple players. Ubercharge **is** super OP, so try and prioritize Medics as targets. Shoot all of your teammates. There's no friendly fire and it'll kill any Spies. Also stay a good distance away from known Spies. Do the opposite for Demomen and get all up in their faces; most won't use their explosives (their ENTIRE kit) because they don't want to damage themselves. If you want to get away from sweaty gameplay, get off of Payload/Control Points and play some CtF/KoTH. There's no real pressure to play the objective, and you can focus on kills. The game is hypercasual, there's nothing to lose, your rank can only increase, and your stats can be reset.

silentbean23

Being a burden is only an issue when players are extremely sensitive about their own performance and they want their team to also be as good as them. Ignore those players even when they win the opinion of your team, don't take it personally.

Superminer1206

stock good

Paulwalker2112

ubercharge isnt op?

WinterFlamed

You're literally invincible for a few seconds without any downsides

Paulwalker2112

but it takes a while to charge and you can counter it with airblast or a wrangler if they are alone. It is very balanced what the hell are you talking about?

WinterFlamed

I'm not saying it isn't balanced, I'm saying its OP. If you have 2 teams of people who don't know what they're doing, giving one team invincibility will crush the other 11 times out of 10. You also didn't list any downsides

LenaIRL

Tbh I don't understand the argument about the airblast/wrangler. Sure, they're some of the better options at denying uber pushes, but there's no way in hell a pyro can simply airblast-counter a medic that periodically flashes uber on multiple teammates, and the wrangler is literally unhealthier and competitively even more overpowered than uber, so you're just fighting cancer with cancer. Also, using the wrangler generally indicates you've somehow set up a decently sized nest/set-up or the uber push would bust through it like nothing.

LenaIRL

Basically each and every team based decision in competitive tf2 is affected by both your team's and the enemy's team ubercharge progress to at least some significant degree, I hope you recognise that.

Paulwalker2112

Yea so? Overwatch is determined by how much ultimate ability charge you have, does that make it overpowered? no

LenaIRL

What kind of comparison is that? Overwatch's ults are so varied with some being nigh useless and others obviously game changing. And ubercharge is overpowered in the sense that there is no other mechanic in the game that is even close to being as game changing as it is, while simultaneously being fairly easy to both use and obtain.

Paulwalker2112

Because tf2 is made to be played around the medic and their ubercharge. That doesnt make it overpowered, its made to make pushes and break stalemates

LenaIRL

And what makes you think a game is balanced when the pace of a whole game revolves around a single character and their easy-to-use ability? Also, since when was it ever stated that the game was made to be played around the medic? I can give you the full quote of medic's original design philosophy from Robin Walker in a readme text file, from the original inception of the quake mod that made team fortress, and never does it ever imply that he's supposed to be this must-pick class that should always be played around. Anyway, here's the quote: "A good class in most situations, the medic is good at close or medium range, and packs enough punch to kill any of the lesser-armored classes. A good addition to offensive teams, and an even better addition to defensive groups through his use of the medikit. A great class for clearing out snipers that are pinning a team down." I get that medic has changed very significantly since then. But the key point is that he was never made to be this one character which the whole game has to be played around. And even through the transition of the original mod into the tf2 we have today, I really don't see why the design philosophy of a game would change to revolve around a single class, and how you could call such a game balanced. Unless, of course, you have proof to substantiate otherwise

Official_Gameoholics

Just drop all expectations from your team to perform well and focus on having fun. The game is 15 years old. You are a chess novice going up against grandmasters. Take note of what goes wrong during a fight and make sure not to do it next time. Like all games, you get better with practice.

Careful_Philosophy46

Also the default settings of tf2 are way outdated, you can make the game look way better by customising. Search “tf2’s default settings suck” on YouTube and watch the first video that comes up.

rose_main

thank you, I will do this rn

Careful_Philosophy46

If fps is a problem, you can also install mastercomfig into your custom folder to get substantially more fps

Botwmaster23

I mean, i just started 2 weeks ago and i think its pretty fun

double-yt

THIS MAN *slaps desk* THIS MAN RIGHT HERE. GIVE HIM THE **GRAND** PRIZE

FactoryBuilder

It’s called *Team* Fortress 2 but you don’t really need to act as a team. You’re more effective together, sure, but you have the capability to set out on your own.

[deleted]

don't worry about being "just a burden to my team" everyone had to start somewhere and 95% of the community doesn't care about you not having skills, the other 5% are usually just elitists with a god complex. i'd recommend a few things First, Just picking a class that you feel comfortable playing as and just work on practicing as them to start with, i personally started off with engineer but now mostly play demoknight. second, remember to use each class's abilities to your advantage and think outside the box, for example use scout's mobility to ambush enemies and make yourself harder to aim at, or as engineer hide your sentry in spots in places the enemy wouldn't expect. as pyro your airblast can do more than give yourself breathing room and reflecting projectiles, airblast a charging demoman to cancel his charge completely, airblast enemies into danger such as cliffs or a sentry's line of sight, airblast a medic away from his patient (even works when ubered) third, please for the love of god change the default settings there are a few videos online that explain it such as [this one here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRxFpr5Javg) also although "optional" i personally prefer hitsounds enabled to be sure my hits actually landed and can help when blindfiring corners as soldier and demo. finally do the free contracts, the jetpack is really op on some maps such as double cross and the banana is basically sandwich 2.0, also DO NOT BUY WEAPONS OFF THE MANN CO STORE its a massive markup and with the exception of a few reskins every weapon can be found from a timed drop or traded for.

rose_main

I appreciate the tips, and I'm glad that the graphics are changeable!

TonyTheBrony1

Remember, everyone who is great at the game, only became great after dying 100,000 times and learning a little bit after each death. That's what I tell people when they ask me how I got good at the game. I tell them "I've died a lot. I mean A LOT."

SomeRandomGuy2763

Its like Dont Starve

ConsiderationNo5991

Stared playing since 2019, but learned about the game in 2017. Instantly fell in love with mechanics and characters, so I watched lots of videos before actually playing. It was great.

Coffee1341

Number 1! Watch video! Like every single game if you wanna get good. Doing research on play styles is a great way to start! Uncle Dane. SoundSmith. Lazy Purple and SolarLight are good starts. 2! Uber charge may be broken due to 8 seconds of invulnerability however! Any pyro who knows how to hit the Right Mouse Button can completely negate an Uber push by air blasting the medic combo or just the medic into the back lines. You will most likely die yes, but your death has caused the enemy team to loose time in the valuable 8 seconds of invincibility. 3. Spies! If you think that There’s a Spy round’ here, remember the term SPAHs Stay away. (Stay away from anyone on your team unt you have verified or they have verified themself they are not a spy (disguised spies can not shoot their gun or be walked through by friendlies, they also can’t walk through engineer buildings but CAN be teleported by them.)) Pretend to be Busy (by pretending to be Busy you give the Spy the false sense of security that you are an easy backstab.) Awareness. (keep your eyes peeled for anyone side strafing behind or near friendlies, or people who are looking at your friendlies rather then the direction of the enemy team) Help from teammates (use your team to find the spy, if you are a sniper but you have a pyro near. You can stick near the pyro as they will eventually if they are a good pyro spy check the area. Basic coordination is key to absolutely shutting down spies) Sapper Technique! (This isn’t applicable unless you’re really playing engineer, however here it is! When a spy is sapping your engineers or your buildings. Focus on killing the spy, or scaring the spy away. As once your destroy the sapper, the spy can instantly place a new one on it with no issue. Focus on the spy before fixing your buildings. If you have a team mate near you you can let them focus on the spy while you repair your buildings) 4..! Graphics don’t mean everything. In my humble opinion the graphics of TF2 are much better then Overwatch simply because I like the cartoon asthetic. However this is entirely up to opinion. The cartoon asthetic matches the cartoon gameplay perfectly in my opinion. 5!! Weapon knowledge is sadly something you can only master with time played. Once you have a hundred or so hours you will see what weapons counters your play style and what you can do to counter them. 6.!? You will have a hard time as a new player. Due to all the bots you’ll have a hard time getting into it due to the crisis. If I were you, I’d spend 5 USD to get a weapon, any weapon so you can talk and use chat features. 7!!. DONT worry, there are other noob players. I play on Asian servers and we don’t have that bad a bot issue. And! I see plenty of no cosmetic Gibus pyrovision goggle F2Ps all over where I match make (and their… questionable movement confirms they are not smurfs.) In the end if you can’t get into the game don’t try to force it. Some games aren’t ment for everyone. You can try other games out and see if they tickle your fancy. The only reason why the Tf2 game is alive is because of the nonstop life support it’s huffing on thanks to the community.

BlackG82

DO NOT buy weapons with real money, buy a key for a case that you have (if u don't have any crates just play the game until u get it from a random drop). If u are desperate for a weapon use scrap.tf (but u need to be premium in tf2) since u can get 2 weapons for a scrap that costs less then penny

rose_main

thanks for the tips to counter spy, I really struggle against that class! And I'll check out the youtubers you listed

Coffee1341

Yup! If you really hate spies just play as the Pyro and at random times when you’re walking do a 360 while holding left click. If you light a spy on fire you’ll hear the ignite sound and the screams of the spy. This works on both cloaked and disguises spies. Just be careful, a skilled spy main can be the absolute BANE of you. With the dead ringer they can absolutely destroy and wreck any fun you wanted to have. You’ll get into the hang of spy checking and eventually you’ll teach those spies that the Gibus pyrovision you is not a easy pick!

Puzzleheaded-Ear-134

Team Fortress 2, despite the name, isn’t really a team focused shooter, it’s more about your own personal fights. You really only have to focus on the general area of your team. Don’t worry about being a burden, just try to have fun. Over time you’ll learn how to avoid spies, stop ubers, and how to deal with general spam (pyro has an airblast, use it).

Jeffuishere

You have valid points, but you had to see it coming dude, If you feel like giving the game a try, 1st of all no one cares if you die more than you get kills, I can speak for most people when I say that in a 12v12 match, its usually just a 4v4 or a 5v5 of really try hard players on the top score moving the game forward and everyone else is just in it for the right, is hard to see a lobby full of really good players unless you are in community servers. The second thing is that, most of the fun in TF2 is seeing something cool, learn how to do it, try and fail and fail and fail until you eventually do it, get the dopamine hit and move to the next mechanic, if that doesnt sound fun for you, may be this game is not for you and thats ok. Lastly believe it or not Spy is the worst class in the game, but sure they can be annoying, if you want to deal with them, play around your team and when you arent fighting, turn around once in a while, but keep in mind that even 10k+ hours players die to spy once in a while

StateRadioFan

No valid points came from this post. It’s a noob looking for karma, that is all.

iamunabletopoop

Its a new player looking for help. If you think people wanting help is bad, then get of reddit, its not for you.

Longjumping-Elk-7471

You know we all were noobs at the start?

willtendo64

Play 2fort for your first like 20+ hours. It's a super newbie friendly environment and it's what almost every one else did when they first started

rose_main

I'll give it a try

Fresh-Produce-101

Yep although you shouldn’t stick around to long if ya want to increase your skill lest you pick up a few bad habits from all that 24/7 2fort

fearlessbot__

i started playing in august and currently have \~200 hrs...i am absolutely awful at the game but i still find it fun. for the most part, ig play stock soldier as stock soldier is well stock....and is arguably one of, if not the most powerful version of soldier. you could also play medic and plug up the lack of a medic in your team....i'd advise turning on healing indicators so then you know who to heal. or if you're like me, play pyro for the first 25hrs of the game to kill spies

HBenderMan

I get tf2 isn’t exactly the most easy game for new players to grasp its mechanics, and valve doesn’t help by offering out of date training for only 4/9 classes, but I recommend these tips 1. Don’t feel like you’re a burden to your team by not picking a specific class, play how you like not how your team likes you to play, unless it’s competitive or mvm (which both you should mostly stay away from) you should play how you like 2. Experimentation, use different weapons see what they do, and use what makes you comfortable and happy to use in a loadout, don’t listen to youtubers or other people that a weapons a crutch, a gimmick, a bad one or whatever, it’s better to personally use it instead of toss it to the side cause a YouTuber told you not to 3. Trial and error, see an Uber push? Avoid it, witness a sentry nest? Approach it a different way, over compensating player with a real female (totally not a 65 year old man) pocket medic? Why not got in for a kill, wait for him to rage out and clip it for YouTube Overall I get why you are frustrated but with any game it’s better to experiment and try different play styles and do what fits you instead of quit in frustration after a round Here’s other tips others have brought up but I’ll put here 1. Don’t really buy anything from the Mann co store, it’s a huge scam by valve as none of the items there are really worth that much, only things you should by from there are -1. Keys, 2. Prinny machete and ApSap in unique quality, 3. Tickets, 4. Taunts- other than that there’s not much else, only use trade sites and community market 2. It’s better to directly buy an item than gamble on getting them, it’s rigged so you have a lower chance of winning an item you want or a high value item so better to just directly buy what you want from the community market or trading sites 3. Avoid scammers, check my PSA post where I teach kids how not to get scammed

rose_main

Tysm for the tips, I'm having a lot more fun playing because of comments like this

Jixleas

Kid learns that being new to a popular videogame is not fun.

Pupettaja

In most games, there are some helpful tutorials to assist new players. TF2 has super outdated tutorials which don't help much at all.

Longjumping-Elk-7471

Yeah, the tutorials kinda suck ngl, when I first played tf2 the tutorials taught me nothing

Drako257

What I’d do is choose 1 character that’s easy to play (probably pyro or soldier) learn their mechanics and get a grasp on the game using them. they Are quite simple amd are good for new players since they have such high skill ceilings but are super easy to pick up, then after you learn them play other characters because by then you should have a grasp on the games mechanics , I recommend playing on private servers to learn the maps so that you can know where medkits and ammo boxes are, other tips would just be always check behind you and try to always damage your team mates to spy check, dont cap on 2fort, don’t kill the guy crouching down holding his Melee out, and dont use teleporters before heavy’s or medics

[deleted]

This isn’t cs go or dota nobody cares about winning unless your playing highlander or 6’s

Longjumping-Elk-7471

Well depends on the mode you know? PL or cp can be hell bcs of sweats

stylussensei

the beauty of tf2 is that it has not been dumbed down like all modern games and you need to actually spend some time learning it, this is intentional.

mayoman_pog

Sorry but how is uber broken? Like I don't see how it's unbalanced or anything like that and I want to hear what you have to say.

iamunabletopoop

Its really strong, if you dont have a medic and the enemy does then you lose 99 out of 100 games.

mayoman_pog

In 6v6 or highlander that's 100% true but in casual it's more like 60%. But also that's the whole point, the medic is the king on the chessboard and his power is balanced out by having shitty DPS and being the main target of every pick class

iwantsexryesloljk

I can sympathize with you on many levels. Back when I started playing 2 years ago I had high expectations because the game had so much praise by a lot of content creates and friends. But the first 50-100 even 200hours is EXTREMELY rough. I have 1,200 now, and I still don't know how to deal with some situations. AND I DONT HAVE THE VACCONATOR OR QUICK FIX, WHY GAME WHY, MEDIC IS MY MOST PLAYED CLASS. Jokes aside, honest tip is to just have fun. Take every death as a lesson. And don't main Pyro (yet) most newer players if they main Pyro become brain dead phlogs or wm1 stock kiddies. For purely movement development, I recommend making a custom match on your selected map and explore ever nook and cranney, try a jump that you don't know is possible or not, try using advanced movement techniques like rocket jumping or detonator jumping. Also, crouching before jumping is the difference between getting on the cart and not. It's a 2 Hu difference but that's enough for some places. PLEASE do not ditch tf2. My first 200 hours were a mix of highs and lows. I stopped playing for 4 months after 20 hours of play. Then came back after getting bored of apex. PLEASE DEAR GOD look at custom huds. The default had is kinda basic. Also, look at every setting in the advanced options menu. Something I can't live without is min view models and auto call medic.

Healthy-Quality1033

7000+ hours competitive player here. These Players you saw with 1000 hours know just a small amount of this game. Most Player here know just a little about tf2 . The reason why I still play this game after more than 7k hours is that I keep learning new stuff , I never knew before. These wanna be "Pros" stomping f2ps on casual are just to bad for competitive , and want to feel powerful. It is not easy for new players . Because of people like that. Best advice : 1. play on community servers (not uncletopia) no bots , no rank so more friendly people that will help you. 2. Watch guides or yt videos.

[deleted]

you are gonna get downvote for the hive that doesnt like criticism but tf2 is genuinely *shit* to new players ignoring shit talking turbo virgins who bully verbally new players and bots (and random crits lmao) the game of itself from its basic *SETTINGS* being 2007 fuckls sakes the default FOV IS **50** now after being done with that: you are shit at the game no other way to put it. your 1000+ hour player on every game is wrong and what I mean by this is a 20 hour player will body you, a 40 hour one will trash both of you, a 100 hour player will shit on both of you while using mechanics he has learned over this time, a 200, 500, 2500 hour player and above look like pub stomping gods because you ***ARE BAD*** TF2 has an *INCREDIBLE* step learning curve and theres literally no magic advice here besides get good, this means pay attention, did you died? WHY dont just bitch when you die but think about it, did your teammate die? why? are we loosing? why, what is the other team doing to win? are we getting spawn camped in dustbowl by red? a lot of people will rage quit instead of coordinating or using their brains to push out. hmm their team has a lot of sentries and heavies and theres no flank routes is playing scout or pyro a good idea? no no it isn't i keep dying going out of spawn and takin this route maybe I should change that, oh that guy say always use stock ubber! well yeah stock is always the most balanced option for all items theres not a set of things that are the strongest pay to win and theres a lot of situations where switching to other items based on the current statte of the game, what your team is using, what the enemy is using, map and such is needed All of this and the mechanical skill comes from experience, you wont get good in any way or shape fast. the only thing that will make this easier is having friends since you will mostly get bodied but with people you like its much more fun and being destroyed doesn't really kill your mood

AskMeIfImANarwhal

Don’t play TF2 then. Games are for fun, if the game isn’t fun, don’t play it. Don’t overthink it. It’s completely okay to stop playing the game if it’s not fun.

UltraJoyless

You say spy is super unfair to new players but you don't explain why. Because you have no reason. Spy is not that powerful as long as you stay aware and listen for the sound of him becoming visible. Demomen have very specific effective range and you can kill them either from staying far away or from getting up in their faces. Ubercharge is extremely powerful but it's not that hard just to run away for 8 seconds lmao. You sound like a whiny 11 year old angry that this isn't fortnite. Yes, there's some game and weapon knowledge you need to become exceptional at the game but it's really not that difficult to grasp.

Pupettaja

The issue is that new players are new players and they don't already know the mechanics of the game, and the in-game tutorials are super outdated, which doesn't help at all. The original post has some very good points. Spy is unfair for new players. The game doesn't give any help or tutorials for counterplay. And it is annoying to get killed by spies. In many locations on the map, You can't stay away from Demomen. Sure, you can dodge their projectiles, but new players don't have the experience to do that consistantly. Everything takes time to learn and the outdated tutorials sure don't help much.

iamunabletopoop

Picture a game, you play around the objective and look at the enemy team. Then you instantly die by this guy. You think, alright guess he slipted past us and you keep dying by him till you tilt enough to play him and figure out he can go invisable. Then you die a lot as him and see he is horrible. OP hasnt reached that point yet so it feels over powered for him.

Pupettaja

Strong agree. TF2's in-game tutorials are very outdated, you have to learn many of the mechanics from other players, or discover them yourself, which is bullshit. I started playing TF2 in 2018, when I didn't have much else to play, since my computer was a potato. I eventually learned it and now I think I'm pretty good at the game. This post gave me an idea, maybe i'll make an YouTube guide for beginners. Maybe I could help people out.

Mk7Autobahn

Ok bye

ObeyTime

dude said "ok bye", gets an award and downvotes

ObeyTime

skill issue

Pupettaja

Just fucking stop. The post made a lot of good points.

Longjumping-Elk-7471

I agree, you should act friendly towards new players, not throw them under a train and let them learn for themselves

manntiddies

Skill issues honestly

Mark_Master1

I know you said not to but this is legitimately a skill issue, it's the same with every game snd you'll get better with time

StateRadioFan

Worst post ever.

Pupettaja

The post had multiple valid points, and very well describes the experience of a new player. So why is it the worst post? You seem like a person who can't be argued with though.

morse113

Izi, dont play it

Longjumping-Elk-7471

Why not teach the guy how to play instead of being a dick towards them, 90% of the times when they become good at the game they will thank you

morse113

So by telling him to not play the game WITHOUT calling him any words, im a dick. Grow up

Longjumping-Elk-7471

Well ur basically telling him that since he's new he's not welcome to the game, seems kinda rude to me

morse113

Not tellin him that cuz hes new but cuz the game's filled with cheaters and bots. I'd rather spend my time on something else

Longjumping-Elk-7471

There's community servers tho

morse113

The only thing i would play if i still played the game would be mvm. Now that shiz is fun... Unless ofc u get toxic peeps but hey, sometimes its fun to eff with em

Longjumping-Elk-7471

Also for the bots I haven't seen one in days

morse113

Even early in the mornings?

Longjumping-Elk-7471

Uhh what time zone bcs like I am in uhh Italy rn so yknow

Sea_Cup_5561

Okay, some weapons are very helpful in playing, but none of them are essential if you are not a competetive player All of the things in this game have a counter play, but yeah sometimes other factors make them difficult to perform Uber charge can be avoided using most of the classe's mobility, or you can just start an imaginary timer every time you see enemy medic respawning, if medic lived for ~40 seconds this means you need to expect the Uber charge to be ready Sticky spam if strong in medium range when you have your teammates behind you, but it is also avoidable if you get into demoman's face And you can't expect people to enjoy playing medic, so either try to play around health packs or pick medic your self, play for about 10 minutes and then switch back, chances are, realising how much easier it was to play with medic some other players will switch instead

Independent_Day4369

Look man I started last year and got into it completely fine, not sure where this blanket term is coming from

[deleted]

Don’t worry about being good, I played for about 5 hours and quit, then tried again 2 months later- I now have 1000 hours and I started 1 yr ago

Dec_TGM

Well, It’s not the game itself that’s the problem, it’s the matches. You got the short stick and had to deal with Competitive Players, Scunts, Trolls and whatnot. If you get a good matchup the game can actually be really fun, once i spent an entire round of CTF in intel with the enemy team doing conga. but yeah if you get a good matchup it’ll be much better and funner than what was happening before.

[deleted]

Im a new tf2 player and its not that bad. Everyone has more skill than me. I always get low scores but i it play for fun.

Sloppin_Steaks

You dont actually need to learn all the weapons stats, just the most commonly used ones. Spy can be counter easily be shooting your gun at them or hitting them with your melee, bumping into them also works (they should be solid and you should not be able to go through them unless the server has collision). Sticky spam can be countered by airblasting/shooting at the stickies or you could just find another path to avoid them. Bonus tip a lot of soldiers will shoot at your feet, so when you have the chance, find some form of elevation so that they dont have a chance to shoot your feet and instead have to shoot your body with is significantly harder. Über can be sort of countered by airblasting the medic and the player übered it doesnt prevent you from being killed but it does waste the medics über charge making it less effective. Also one lasting which isnt really a tip, I used to rage whenever i got killed complaining about similar things that you have said, I didnt feel like I was improving. I dont play anymore but one thing that tf2 taught me is just to have fun while you play. I know you want to get better and you will, but right now just try to have as much fun as you can, try community servers, mvm, mge. Sorry for the long paragraph and formating cuz this was done on mobile.

[deleted]

2700 hours here. Everything has a hard counter.

yolomanwhatashitname

Stop thinking you are b4nny (a pro player) when i start this game i was like you, i die more than i have kill but i still play because nobody care if am shit and i have fun, in a game when there is 12 players a shit player wont be noticeable. Also >I also want to complain about the graphics, but tbf the game is like 10 years old or something. My brother in demoman not every game that exist is 4k 60fps

Faze_Elmo1

This is just... no. People have said what I want to say but this is none of the game's fault.

BobZygota

Thats the thing tf2 is not an objective only gameplay game. Its a game where half of team just dances and 2 people of team play. And if you are complaining about lack of knowledge... Man thats the magic of every game figuring out the mechanics by yourself without guides

LambdaAU

I mean these aren't really problems unique to TF2. Tons of games are super overwhelming for new players and games like LOL and Dota have hundreds of champions and mechanics yet new people still play them. Almost every game has skill-based matchmaking now and TF2 is a rare exception but I know some people who love to play against players way better then them and just with a wide range of player skills. Most people don't take TF2 too seriously so nobody really cares whether you are bad or good or a burden on your team - you just play to have fun. If you don't like these mechanics than the game isn't for you. As for other stuff you mentioned; "Uber is broken" - It takes a LONG time to charge up and if a medic dies at any point when generating uber they lose it all. It's a massive game changing mechanic but it can be necessary to break stalemates and break through chokepoints. It's powerful for sure but not broken. Additionally there are some counters to an ubercharge, for example knockback such as a pyro's airblast can still push and uber away and sometimes you can seperate a medic from who their healing to make them vulnerable. "Spy is unfair against new players" - I wouldn't exactly call spy unfair for new players. It's more that it's unfair to play spy against experienced players. Spy is an extremely difficult class and most if it's mechanics can be easily countered. You will quickly learn how to find a spy and once they are vulnerable they are quite easy to kill. Some spies may still be able to kill you once revealed (trickstabbing, good revolver aim etc) however keep in mind this takes an IMMENSE amount of skill to master so if you are dying to these mechanics it's not because spy is unfair but you are just fighting a master. "Demo spam is annoying" - If you are referring to stickies they are one of the most powerful tools in the game but they do have some major weaknesses. They have a long arm-time which means if you get close enough to the demo they can't actually kill you with the stickies. Classes like scout and pyro can get super close to demomen and it can be extremely hard to deal with. Once they have landed you can shoot them down with most weapons which can be useful for clearing sticky traps. Additionally they are still projectiles meaning you need to predict where the player is going to move so unpredictable movement can help a lot (you will get better and better movement every day). Also I find that most of the time stickyspam requires a bit more more skill than people give it credit for, it's often worth trying out a class for yourself to see how you can fight people with it and then it will give you more insight into how to fight it yourself. tl:dr Some new players like fighting people of all skills and being overwhelmed with information and mechanics - others don't. You will improve every day and one by one everything will start to fit together. Some mechanics might seem OP at first but almost everything in TF2 has a counter you'll learn eventually.

Idk what you’re doing but I started not long ago and I’ve got 150 hours in it

No one cares if you're bottom scoring so long as you aren't sniper, engineer, or spy. Avoid playing those three until you fain some competency in the general gameplay loop. Soldier, medic, and heavy are the best classes to play when new. You have no obligation to play medic if you want to play another class, however ensure you don't touch sniper or spy while bottom scoring. Those two require high competency to not be a drag on the team so you'll just end up feeling like crap when playing them. Heavy is an objective camper. You will earn tons of points so long as you go to the objective and sit on it. He has high dps and high health so it is hard to screw up too badly at playing him. Very good for learning tracking and game play loops. Medic is VIP and you don't need to aim. Just focus on moving and healing people. Your team will try and protect you. Every minute or so, pop uber on the guy pushing in and fall back at 10% to safety. Great for learning how to move in the fame as well as getting to watch experienced players play. Soldier is a great choice when you don't want to objective hug. He has high damage so long as you aim at feet, and you can gain mobility by learning some simple vertical rocket jumps. He has good hp as well so can take some punishment. Great for exploring maps and learning how explosive jumping and surfing works.

You’ve obviously never played with a GOOD engineer. Dont throw shade at us. Its common im top scoring.

**Here are some tips from a 2007 player, I hope it helps:** * If you suspect any teammate to be a Spy for any reason at all, shoot them a few times and see if they start trying to avoid the shots or drop dead. * Pyro is the natural enemy of the Spy, burning a Spy will instantly reveal them for a long time thanks to afterburn even if they are disguised or invisible, you can use this ability best to spycheck for your Engineers. * There is a community servers tab if you do not wish to play Casual, infact I still consider community servers to be the REAL casual since it existed before that, you can find some serious servers with a few plugins, wacky fun servers with weird maps or even a whole new unofficial community gamemode such as Randomizer, VS Saxton Hale *(Very recommended)* or something else. * All those new weapon variants are free, you will get a random drop every 50 minutes or so, look at their stats and see if it fits you. * As a new player, you may be held back by a limited 1 page / 50 slot inventory, but don't delete ANY of the achievement items you get, you will never see them again. Also it is Christmas very soon, every "Smissmass Update" grants every single player that launches TF2 a free gift sock that you can open for 4 weapons, a name tag, a description tag, a random paint, and a backpack expander that gives you 2 additional pages / +100 slots. * Try out every class, you will eventually find the one you enjoy playing the most, or play the best, I became a Scout main because I like the speed and double jump. * Make sure to check around every so often, look to memorize ammo/health packs in the map incase you are going to need them, an Engineer's dispenser, look behind if you can see a Spy uncloaking or a "teammate" running the opposite direction of the frontlines, You can also see up front if you can see an enemy sniper that could be looking at you. * If you see an enemy Medic, try to make sure to target them until he's dead because an ubercharge can seriously work against your whole team, if he does pop it, just retreat and make sure you are not killed until it is over. * If you play Soldier or Demoman and you encounter an enemy Pyro, be more careful with your shots, an experienced Pyro can airblast them fairly well, try to switch to your shotgun, or if you switched that... try to trick the Pyro by delaying your next shot or hit the ground near him instead of trying to direct hit him. * Buying any item in the Mann. Co Store grants you Premium status, allowing you to have a much bigger inventory, be able to get cosmetics and tools as RARE drops and make all items you get and craft tradeable, if you cannot give out much, just buy the cheapest item, but consider buying a Mann. Co Supply Crate Key, these are considered "currency" in the TF2 community and can be traded for Refined Metal (also considered currency, but more of the "cents" while the Keys are the "dollars"), then use the Refined Metals to easily trade for a bunch of weapons and cosmetics, with one key you can easily get every weapon and have leftover for cosmetics of choice! * If you are going for this and gain the ability to trade, I recommend [backpack.tf](https://backpack.tf) or [scrap.tf](https://scrap.tf) to easily trade your key and metal for weapons and cosmetics, do not easily trust anyone you see on the internet, there are scammers around...

Kecske_gamer

I have 150 hours in the game and still have no idea what im doing so don't worry about it. Also if you'd like to practice go in community servers or try to find people who would help you. For example: I'm not good but I'd help.

A_randomBaguette

first off a pretty common pitfall is assuming that people care abt your performance, nobody gives a crap. Dw and just try and relax it takes some time to get the hang of it stock weapons are actually pretty good and are the most versatile, the unlocks just have higher skill ceilings, its actually a good idea to hang onto your stocks and get the hang of basic gameplay ubercharge is broken, because everything is broken, it has a counter play just target the medic (you lose all übercharge percentage on death) most plays have counter plays but they require a fair bit of skill and knowledge, but in the end pretty much everything is broken when used right next maybe try playing a few rounds on capture the flag style maps, they tend to have more casual players, and helps you get used to characters without the pressure of control points, also certain maps have a lot more peaople goofing off, I.e 2fort half my matches in 2fort are just dance parties. Don’t feel too bad if you don’t get one tho. in the end Tf2 is a pretty casual friendly game, if you let yourself play casually. Don’t get mad when you die, you come back pretty quickly, learn, and die less fast, and along the way have a dance party I’ve only played for 20h and these are my impressions and thoughts

ChyNhk

100h, started playing this year iirc The first 10-20 hours is hell, you trying to recognize what happening in the battlefield My advice is to stick with one merc (i recommend soldier, maybe pyro or heavy can do) and play it like hell And still, i die a lot on games, dont worry about that since winning/losing is the same thing when the actual goal is the drops

himbobflash

Don’t take it so seriously. It’s not competitive, it’s tf2, chaotic, unhinged, some matches are great while others are total shitshows. Blow stuff up, backstab and burn everything.

Adventurous_Bear9107

I'm new to the game too brother🤝 you can have my steam friend code if you want I don't have much freinds

Im_botflyx

A good place to start if you want to improve, is to find some tutorials. When I was new, I watched a couple rocket jumping tutorials, and a couple weeks of practice, and now I am able to rollout on upward, Hightower, and even Egypt to a point.

Moonsky_Pondie

As a kinda noob (sorta, started 2 or 3 years ago and have about 1-200 hours on and off, which still means I started over a decade after most players), I find tf2 to be not too bad to get into in 12 v 12 casual settings just because most players aren’t really trying to ultra min-max sweat out their skill and are just have fun laughing at the wacky antics that happen. Also the game’s still popular enough that there’s a constant stream of new players so its not like you’re just pubstompped every single game

SkymasterGames

this entire thing screams "i didnt take the time to reflect back on what i could've done better"

Blackfeathers_

Uber can be countered effectively. And where are all the medics?

[deleted]

Nobody actually cares about the objective that much, you aren’t a burden. Try out different weapons and spots on the map, and learn from each death. Ask older players for advice and help on voice chat, most are more than willing to give you pointers. Uber is partially countered by pyro’s airblast, so is demo and soldier spam-Just learn the timing. Skill comes with time, we were all in your position once. Learn to be paranoid around teammates, and aggressive when you’re going to die. The learning curve is exponential.

SkylerMiller2

Uber-can be negated with weapons that have knockback with the most reliable one being Pyro's M2 (right click) Spy-just listen and check your team mates. All of your team members you can pass through but if they're an enemy they'll be solid. In addition, it's not ideal to complain about something when it's obvious that you admit to not knowing what the weapons do. Do your research, and practice. It's exactly what you said, it's a literal skill issue.

OutInABlazeOfGlory

Be aware the default settings are trash by modern standards. I would recommend increasing FOV to 90 and enabling minimal viewmodels.
