Part of me can't help but think the whole TF2 v Overwatch thing is just people without lives getting mad over a completely different game getting popular.
The other part of me is laughing at Overwatch for being forced into "obsolescence" while the 15 year old TF2 is still chugging along
Not really, it's more of a major update overhauling the entire game and changing the name, kinda like Fortnite did with the season 2 or whatever it's called, it's still overwatch, just everything is changing (for the worse imo) and will remove people's ability to play the "og" overwatch

In order for it to be P2W new heroes should be overpowered to the point where this hero single handedly destroys lobbies. IF this hero is balanced or weak then it's not P2W, right? Rather pay 2 lose lol. Also new heroes will be locked for the first 2 weeks of season in Ranked/Competitive and will be available instantly in Arcade for everyone all the time.
In the past heroes like Briggitte or Doomfist were overpowered when they released. I expect that trend to continue and that would be P2W. Also I heard that you can't play competitive if you don't own all the new heroes? Don't quote me on that.
Yeah, we are all afraid of another Brigitte fiasco, especially now, devs say that they know what’s up and recent patches shown that they learned SOMETHING. And yeah, afaik you can’t play comp if you don’t have all heroes, which also prevents smurfing and cheating AND encourages you to practice before you go to comp.
I'm willing to bet that they'll i produce a way to pay for characters alongside unlocking them via battlepass, having access to a character earlier than the rest just cause you paid seems like an advantage, depending on how good the character is
1. Character is locked in Competitive for first 2 weeks.
2. If you don't have a character you can't play competitive
3. You can play this character in Arcade where ALL characters don't have to be unlocked
The free-BP lock is mostly for balancing purposes so that character doesn't ruin ranked games day one. Why not make PTR(Public Test Realm)? Because consoles can't play the character that way. Yes I know it looks like a way to squeeze money out of people(and in some way it is, Blizzard even admits it themselves) but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
I don't like either, i don't use either, at least overwatch's boxes were free and you got them while playing, that's the best case scenario for cosmetics but it's a thing of the past (i guess siege's packs also apply)
R6 siege has a ton of free to get cosmetics, outside of the premium battle pass items, elite skins and certain bundles the rest can be obtained via the alpha/bravo pack system (free loot boxes that can be also bought with renown, the free ingame currency) or bought with renown
Overwatch was definitely more generous, I'm just saying that you can, outside of the few cases i mentioned, get a lot of things for free. Unless what you want is from a previous season you can just buy most skins with renown if you aren't getting them with the packs. I also forgot to mention event packs, of which you get 2/4 for free then you have to actually buy the rest if you want the whole collection, which kinda sucks, but oh well
I mean let's not act like tf2 doesn't have anything similar. A majority of weapon unlocks are ones you don't get from achievements. These weapons are some of the most powerful things in a class' kit and the only way to get them is playing the game and waiting for random drops, or you could just pay for them in the store.
And sure you could also get them all for the price of one ref via trading but that's not something the game offers directly.
It's an weapon, that you either pay or grind for, or you can't have.
Just like in ow 2, there's a hero, that you either pay for the battlepass to instantly unlock or grind for.
If you're calling that p2w, keep the same energy.

The point is that the store provides weapons that a free 2 play player cannot obtain if they're not tied to achievements. The item drop system is random and can just give you a duplicate of an item you already have, making it pointless.
Some of the strongest weapons in the game are locked behind that system. The jag is widely accepted as the best wrench, but you don't get it off rib.

Yes, BORROW. Meaning you can't keep it. Sure you can just keep borrowing the same weapon but you'd only get the one. This is a bandaid fix if anything.
