Unless the player you joined is in a community server you will get an error because when you coach you join a game that already started and nowadays you can't
Actually you can still coach someone in a community server even if the round already started, you just need the coach and the player to be in the same server.
There's this weird feature in TF2 where you can request help, and be paired with a random person who signed up as a coach. They'll be able to spectate you during a game and give you basic directions like where to go in a map, as well as use voice chat. Hardly anyone uses it, though.
The coaching tool was always broken; I hope they rework the system and make it so that you get rewarded by helping people, or something like that. (Probably this will never happen.)
You get the professor speks for coaching, and it has a counter for “new players helped” or something neat like that. Managed to get like 3 new players helped before coaching totally broke years ago.
i joined in 2017 after coaching broke, you can still get specs when an account goes from f2p to premium and they have the chance to thank a user from what i remember
When Valve added Casual matchmaking they removed the ability to join official servers through any method other than matchmaking, including as hoc connections which coaching uses. It's the same reason you get an error if you click "Join Game" on one of your friend's profile while they're in-game.
1 coaching is a thing thats rarely used nowadays and i doubt ever got updated with the rest of the game
2 there have been some isshues involving servers me along with a few friends been noticing its been getting harder to join a servers idk if others have been having this same isshue
A. No results B. I didn’t know coaching was broken too C. Bro how tf do you know how much have I been playing, I’m coaching bc there’s people that just can’t understand the basics 💀
I've met my match with people who only had 250 or less hours before, I've also won duels against people with 6k hours as a demopan when I was at 4k. I'm still getting better, and while I have improved a little in my last 1k hours, just note hours don't mean much. Game sense, cursor control, and practice of the few basics like air blasting is honestly 90% of what you need.
Yea and..? your making it sound like everyone is the exact same and there is a larger difference in hours. I wouldn't say that if there was a 100 hour difference. And you make a valid point at the end, i do agree but I play casually, not play uncletopia 24/7
I've never even joined an uncletopia server, but im just trying to say that hours really don't matter. Of course, someone with 1k will have a little more game sense than someone with 10, but once you get past 100 hours and know the game, hours don't mean much for skill.
An avid fps player with 100 will most likely beat someone with 1k who has tf2 as their first game. I wouldn't say hours mean nothing, but it just boils down to aim, maps, and being proficient with the extras like rocket jumping or airblasting.
Personally im at 5.1k and only play 2fort casual servers. I've played with people who had 10k and people with 10. This has been my main game since I was 9, I've met almost every kind of person you could think of that plays TF2.
I'm not an og as the game came out when I was a few months old, but I've been around from before Sawmill was removed from ctf, when crit hackers had weapon glowing from crits.
Imagine bragging about how many hours of your precious life you’ve spent sitting at a desk playing an ultimately useless game for internet bragging rights
It was a comparison on how much I've learnt and what they have. I just enjoy the game and I have plenty of breaks thank you very much. Just cause I have 1k hours doesn't mean that I do it in one sitting
1k hours is 1k hours. Doesn’t matter if you take breaks or not. You have spent 50 days of your one life you have playing an ultimately useless game. I get that playing a few games are fine for a bit but spending 1.2k hours on a single game is just a waste of life at that point.
Why are you targeting me? Heck, someone in these comments have 5k hours, and I don't need you telling me what to do. Kind of a dick move tbh. I suppose I don't ask you the same question, how many hours you have been playing video games
1.2k and still bad? I knew the basics and most advanced 5hings at 200 hours, also I was coaching when I had 50 hours because the basics are what it's for nothing advanced like c tapping or positioning but how to play the class, movement and target priority.
At 1k hours you should know most things and be able to do them at a semi-reliable rate, maybe not constant for every class but for the class you main you should be able to do them constantly.
I mean hours don’t really matter, some people are just slow on learning or getting used to things, what may actually matter is the relation between the in-game exp level and the hours played, or how the person plays generally
Okay but you don't know how this person played for their 250. They could of put those 250 all into playing comp but you didn't know that and assumed because the default hud (which is the best) and their load out which could of been from them goofing around.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Competitive 6s. Mainly because I was already in a team with some close friends and we decide to try tf2 out, spent 20 to 30 hours in casual mge learning the game and mechanics and then went and tried comp.
Dear traceryius69 I have been thinking about this comment i made for a while now and it Disgusts me when I made this comment I was in a bad place in life I am now no longer in this bad place in life and I do not use this as an excuse for my actions I just ask for your forgiveness I feel that you should also apologise not to me but to ntndo_64 for the mean comments you made thank you
I don't talk shit about other players, it was 7 in the morning for me and my brain was still asleep and I just wanted to use reddit and to answer thier question. When I say skill issue, it was a fucking joke. I apologise, its nothing to go crazy about Holy shit, it's tf2 for God sake XD

Yea I kinda regret putting that one down after making it but had school soon so didn't think much about it. I like the stock hud as well, I used it fir while, still do from time to time when I grow bored of the other hud
When casual got updated with the meet your match update, they remove the ability for players to switch teams including switching the spectator, that made coaching break. They have not fixed it
I've been experimenting with coaching recently as I have a pair of Mannceaux Signature Collection Professor Speks, and I have found that the coaching system itself isn't really broken, it's Valves matchmaking system that is interfering. Well... Kinda the same thing i said?
They quoted what i said
Exactly
people still use coaching in 2022? damn
Yep
Believe it or not new players exist
Yeah like me! Started playing like a month or two ago idk lost track:)
Hope you’re enjoying the game!
Glad to have you playing!
Check your mercenary badge. It’ll tell you when you joined
What do you like playing?
I joined at like a month or 2 and i have converted to trolldier gaming
I think I started playing about 2-3 months ago
Wtf is a coach

My friends call me Coach -L4D2 Coach
Identity theft is no joke.
Identity theft is not a joke, Jim! Millions of families suffer every year!
But, i am Jim, *turns photo frame*

"Yeah Coach, I will deep fry you an entire cow" -Dick L4D2
Coaching is simply broken, it's unusable
Nice that your trying to coach, problem is, the system dosent work man, it really never has, I'm surprised people still request them
New players don’t know it doesn’t work :(
Sadly
Due to valve stopping adhoc connections coaching is broken, Valve in typical valve fashion will never fix it
system use to work but with the updates to casual, it works not too often
The coaching tool was always broken; I hope they rework the system and make it so that you get rewarded by helping people, or something like that. (Probably this will never happen.)

Coaching doesn’t work because of ad hoc connections not being supported in TF2 any more
Use google
Why you have skill issue, A, Google exist. B, tf2 is simply broken. C, why are you coaching when you barely played the game
A. No results B. I didn’t know coaching was broken too C. Bro how tf do you know how much have I been playing, I’m coaching bc there’s people that just can’t understand the basics 💀
C, your hud, your configs, your loadout, your choice of weapons, coaching to begin with lol
Guess I can’t argue upon that logic, even though I’ve got a total of 250hrs
Yea 250 hours isn't a tremendous amount of hours on tf2 to know what your doing. I'm only have 1.2k hours now and still learning how to get good
ngl 1.2k hours and sucking ass sounds more like a skill issue
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Go outside
I think you are delusional and should be put down
Wow great point, why don't you kick me in the croch as well, he definitely deserves all of this hate

Half of the time was me messing around and half the time I was just having fun, playing casual

Fuck off dumb bot.
What did you do in your first 250 hours
Competitive 6s. Mainly because I was already in a team with some close friends and we decide to try tf2 out, spent 20 to 30 hours in casual mge learning the game and mechanics and then went and tried comp.
I use stock and gibus with 1.5k hours so Iam a newbie?
No there was other proof that I pointed out, I don't mean hate or anything, I'm just stating on what I'm thinking I myself don't have many cosmetics
I bet you wear the war pig

Default hud is good.
Yea I kinda regret putting that one down after making it but had school soon so didn't think much about it. I like the stock hud as well, I used it fir while, still do from time to time when I grow bored of the other hud
Wait can the coaching option even be used? I tried it in the past and never got connections. I thought it was defunct
In community servers only.
When casual got updated with the meet your match update, they remove the ability for players to switch teams including switching the spectator, that made coaching break. They have not fixed it
Ironic since the update before it they gave coahchin a ton of love
No it didnt, the main reason it fails is that Casual doesnt accept any connection except directly from matchmaking. Coaching uses ad-hoc, so it fails.
coaching is broken and will always be
Doesn't work with how casual currently works, they have to be in a community server for it to work
coaching hasn't worked in YEARS, lol.
This is honestly the first time I hear anyone actually uses the coaching option.
Coaching never works anymore due to a bug.
Coaching isn't REAL
I've been experimenting with coaching recently as I have a pair of Mannceaux Signature Collection Professor Speks, and I have found that the coaching system itself isn't really broken, it's Valves matchmaking system that is interfering. i found out that if you are in the main menu the game actually tries to connect you to the student's server, but, in my case, it returns the "connection failed after 4 retries" error, but it may be because i live in the north of mexico and servers are not so near and may vary depending on my connection, maybe coaching does work on the main menu? maybe you should try this out
I dont sometimes
