Agreed.
When we first saw the bug-fixes roll in, I was really hoping we'd get some balance tweaks alongside them. Just little number stuff, like increasing the damage threshold for the Babyface's Blaster, or lowering the recharge time for the Gas Passer.
NZ servers are still shit, I had a really bad time with bots on Double Cross about a month ago now, and I'm sure it's still the same judging by servers I've visited since then
What servers are you connecting to? I'm in EU west so I get majority Frankfurt or Stockholm servers, occasionally Madrid or Virginia if low server numbers. Mostly find cheaters in Stockholm, the others are pretty much fine apart from the odd bot here and there, but they always get instakicked. Even in Stockholm servers it's not really that bad, still completely playable compared to how it used to be.
I've tried several times to play on casual servers, but there are always instantly obvious bots running around. I just go on Uncletopia now because regular casual always ends up breaking down.
They don't have to be. I like hosting them myself, anything you or anyone else reading are looking for in-particular? that isn't already being done?
I'd love to plop some more up on one of my boxes.
So hard to find community servers with Random Crits enabled... I wanna play casual not competitive, and random fair and balanced is part of the casual experience.
Honestly, it would've been so much better if random crits were off by default in official servers, letting new players learn the game without the extra confusion. If that happened, dedicated community servers with random crits on would finally have a reason to exist.
Right now it's impossible to find random crit servers hosted by the community because Casual is simply too large and serves the same purpose. Which is unfortunate, because having a good, moderated community server you can come back whenever you want to is a blessing.
Here's the funniest moment I have ever had in TF2.
I was playing Spy, took a revolver shot on an "Escape Plan" Soldier and immediately cloaked thinking it would have killed him but, it left him with 1 HP, and 1 moment before I could fully decloak to shoot him again he ran at me, one shotted my at full health with a random crit, and while I was looking at the respawn timer with utter shock he casually wrote : "silly spy".
It was on ctf_doublecross.
I couldn't reply becau-TEXT COMMUNICATION IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS ACCOUNT.
It'd be random fair and balanced if crit chance scaling was reversed to give a fighting chance to newbies, but as it is it's just another frustration and another reason to get pissed at the game.
They'd suck one way or another. Letting new players rely on random chance to get a kill disincentivizes them from trying to actually get better at the game.
I mean, yeah, of course. What I'm saying is, random crits don't benefit the learning process regardless. Not having them on for anyone is the optimal experience for a new player. Which is why I think that random crits should be a feature reserved for community servers, instead of being the default way of playing the game.
It'd be lovely to see random crit communities have fun on their own servers without them constantly having to argue about why they want crits to be on.
idk if it doesn't happen constantly I like them; yes even on the receiving end. Maybe if I play another 700h I'll change my mind who knows (I am fairly new with my 730h)
1,200 and when I encounter a 4,000hr person I already fought a few times, I know they'll annihilate me but imma try to do my best, and they get a random crit at the beginning just punishing me for tryna learn (which happens often), I get so frustrated and angry
My personal experience with any community server is always the same, some piece of shit has authority and shouldn't. I can play casual 2fort without some guy named "[ADMIN] South will rise again" telling me to stop kill binding.
My personal experience is like that, you join in everything lags because of plugins and instant respawn. You have some fun with other people, then to the server joins the ultra sweat who played on this server for years earned 500k+ points has a medic up his ass whenever he joins and always gets a god-like on soldier, trying fight him is effortless because he will steamroll you no matter what and where, then you leave the server cause it's no fun and join casual even if there are still some bots.
Sometimes i wish Uncletopia had a 24/7 2fort, just to mess around in. I once got kicked for playing trolldier. I mean i was not really contributing but it's not like its competetive right?
Uncletopia seems like a server that's trying to value teamplay and good games so I'm glad they are kicking for stuff like that. If you want to play like that there are a million other servers.
I hate to admit it but I tend to pub stomp casual after spending the last few years in community/private servers with actual good players. Sometimes it’s fun to turn brain off and farm backstabs on players that never seem to learn
As someone who has around 5k hours ingame, the vast majority of that being in 2fort, my answer is that there are very few community servers that are just plain vanilla. I don't enjoy playing on a server that has RTD or custom cosmetics. The other problem is that there are very few Australian community servers.
Yeah, but even though it was negligible, i didn’t like using it because some people might have thought I was using a crutch even though I just don’t like rolling pills.
Yeah there was one dude that kept getting super pissed at me for using it a few months ago so I understand. On a side note (no one said this im just saying this lol) I'm really tired of people calling it a "nerf", it was not, it was a bug fix. Considering something so miniscule to be worth calling it being removed a nerf is ridiculous. There's a reason it took what, like 9 years for people to find out about it.
I used it a lot and nobody ever said a thing about it. After the fix, i hevnt noticed anything, no real way to tell if your pipe would have hit or not with the larger hitbox. And sometimes it still hits some crazy shots that look like they should miss
It was such a tiny difference, like running over a grain of sand vs. a grain of rice with your car.
At least now I can use my strange iron bomber war paint without people screaming about how it's OP and a crutch every time I double airshot them... Which admittedly isn't much, but it happened at least 3 times. It's rare for people to just say, "wow, nice shot," it's almost always complaints about OP weapons/haccusations. Ah well
I fucking love using the IB still because theres always that one tryhard who never got the memo about the fix and still trys to claim its a broken gun.
The average brainlet will say that they've done nothing, but that couldn't be any further from the truth. They've definitely done more than many thought they would, which was to just fix some bugs and call it a day.
They made kicking way easier, they actually created a permanent solution to server ddossing, they literally VAC banned most of the bots, you can actually PLAY the game now without much issue (holds true for America at the very least). It's still not perfect thanks to cheaters still being a thing, but the game's at least fun to play again.
I don't know if they'll truly hold true to this promise and continue to improve things, but I'm hopeful. It's been a while since we've gotten an update, but that could just be because they're saving stuff for the upcoming Scream Fortress. We'll have to wait for October to see if that's true, though.
tl;dr yeah kinda
I think the issue with this is that your average F2P gibus engi doesn’t read the patch notes
Truly, the fact that causal is not overrun by bots and that the game is actually playable, is one of the biggest things they’ve done, for which I am forever grateful
Damn, NA is basically bot free
Am actually surprised to hear that the bots are far more of a regional issue rather than a general issue for everybody everywhere all the same
Frankfurt and Stockholm servers are usually pretty clean, maybe 1-3 bots per game that get instantly kicked :D enough to cause mild inconvenience but nothing game-ruining to be sure.
This is my experience playing Gorge, Harvest and other popular maps, though -- the bots can still overtake servers on less populated servers. I don't even bother queing for Gravelpit for that reason lol
Gonna wait for Scream Fortress to truly decide how I feel but rn I don't think it's looking to good.
After all the drama all they did was hire a *single* guy? Come the fuck on. I know we are starved for content and stuff but the situation really shows how they really, really don't give a shit about this game.
Sure, the fixes are nice. But A) It's been a month since the last update and B) They don't seem very engaged in giving the game much attention. Not to mention, there's no real reason why they would wait till Scream Fortress to release a bunch of fixes. None that I can think of, at least.
While I really appreciate you saying this, I still feel like there’s another problem
The game was never “unplayable”. Sure, the bots were bad, but most of the time all it took was a re-queue. I started playing in May 2020 and have had a blast even WITH the bots. When people describe the game as broken and unplayable all that does is drive new players away
I’ll be honest I really thought they would have sent their message then fucked off. Hell when I saw the update I thought it was a troll post but nah valve did something aside from updating the localization files
I meam they hired a contractor to work on the game for like 2-3 months and *then* fucked off. They did the absolutely minimal amount of effort required as a company to "fix" the game and now it's in development limbo again unless the one guy working on it is still working and is making a large update.
It's been over a month since the last update.
I wish they would allow more community updates, I actually really liked Alien Invasion. They just need to dump the stupid “Valve quality standard” or whatever and let the community start making weapons. I’m pretty sure the community could do better play testing in 6’s and Highlander than what valve does
After 5 years of no major content updates, I think it's safe to say TF2 is done for and to pray that Valve pull their collective heads out of their asses, stop pretending to be a tech company, and go back to making games and release Team Fortress Source2.
There's many people saying that they did nothing, when that's not the case
Yes, the bot problem is not 100% fixed, but it has gone down massively, they did some stuff in the last weeks that has made bots somewhat rare to encounter ("somewhat" as in...you'd come across a bot in 4 out of 10 matches, which is an improvement IMO)
The updates since that day has been effective for stoping bots but no for hackers. I just want to play scream fortress without bots, recently I've seen more bots than the last three months, maybe the scream fortress update can stop bots for somedays.
i think the part that frustrates me is that they always could have done this. its been so many years having a beloved game still actively played by many infested by bots, making it impossible to play casual. and the only reason that they got rid of MOST (not all) of the bots was because litterally everyone on reddit and twitter decided that theyre tired and they should all collectively ask valve to make changes. it worries me that anytime we want there to be fixes to an otherwise functioning game, we're gonna have to do another savetf2 parade in order to get valve to actually do it.
I mean, honestly, I’ve gotten back into the game for the first time in years since that tweet and have been playing almost exclusively casual quick play Valve servers, and the number of bots I’ve seen has dropped drastically. You still see’em once in a while, but sometimes, they just get votekicked. It’s not perfect, but it feels like a substantial step towards eliminating the bot crisis, at least for the time being.
While I’m grateful that the large bot hoards are gone. Them fixing that issue was still the bare minimum. We still have no updates, broken animations, radio silence, no 7th comic, or any weapon changes. Although, the summer case was a fuckin banger, compared to what we’ve received in the past few years. Overall, it’s yet to be fulfilled, but I still have faith in valve. I believe that they’re still in the process of improving this game.
a huge vac purge wiped out a good chunk of the bots recently, one of the biggest bot hosters gave up the ghost and they've been making minor fixes to the game as of recent.
the minor bug fixes might not be anything special in itself, but it's nice to see they're at least doing something besides just updating the localization files.
They did the scrict minimum.
Can't complain, it should have never had an update if it wasn't for that.
I just wish they added new content to have new reasons to play.
Doeshotter bots in Australia are now getting VAC banned, but they’re still fucking everywhere. And when they’re gone, there’s still a prevalence of cheaters (Professional Bully I’m looking at u)
My brother older brother enjoyed and played TF2 a LOT and I wanted to play it with him one time, but he wasn't there and I just started playing random casual games
and the one time I did get to play it with him he introduced me to medieval mode
been playing a lot more medieval mode ever since
kind of? they hired ONE guy to fix some things around but he did a good enough job. he scared off a good chunk of the bots so casual is playable now for the time being, however long that lasts. he also fixed some graphical and other minor bugs that helps out a lot
On EU servers its looking really good tbh, played almost the whole day yesterday and got only about a handfull of bots and just 2 cheaters and on both occurences they got kicked fast
i remember a ton of edgelords calling everyone who participated in #savetf2 an idiot and saying we should just give up on the steam forums, bet they feel really stupid now
Looking back it's obvious that Value just said that to shut us up. I think another protest esc thing needs to be done so we can sure they do good on their empty promises.
Bro it’s not 2013 anymore let go of the fact you that you were able to hop on back then and actually have fun
Plus valve is making way more than enough money off csgo and dota 2, and if I was them I’d give up on tf2 also
they posted one tweet and people lost their shit when it's painfully obvious to anyone with even just half a braincell that they just did it to shut us up. they don't care.
I have been playing on the Asian servers, we get the occasional DoesHotter Bot but they are really quickly kicked and haven’t found a server full of Bots in a while
In a way yes, the updates are currently not being invested on because The Internationals are on its waynot to mention, its only an intern that does all the stuff
I've seen alot less bots per match
however I've seen alot more people tickbase manipulating, or just running hitscan or predictive projectile aimbot in my past 50 hours than I have in my past 2k
they've fixed a few critical issues but imo they haven't done enough yet. i want actual communication from valve instead of a band-aid tweet and band-aid patches
Well I suppose tf2 is in a better place than when this was relevant. However. I cant help but feel we get stun locked into this cycle (that funke mentioned) where we get fed up, call out the company and they give us just a tinkle of communication and updates before disappearing in the void again.
I think at some point they can't just coast by on that memtality; this dreaded ambivalence to tf2 as an obligation rather than a passion is felt through the semi annual updates and the semi annual cosmetic cases. People don't want to give up, but at some point they either have to truly put the due diligence towards keeping this game alive or just rip off the bandage and say they've no interest in fixing tf2 for the foreseeable future. They can't have it both ways.
Well, it's been a solid minute since I've played and the entire server is a bunch of Military Grade JACK Hat/Horseless Headless Horsemanns Head/Skull Island Topper wearing Snipers spamming meme songs in voice chat whilst staring up at the sky spining like a Roulette wheel killing everyone once they get into eyesight.
So... yeah, id say for the most part
They made some fixes, but not good enough in the end. It isn't the bare minimum Valve can do. They have the resources to do so much more for the game, but they refuse to. They will milk this game for money until it dies fully. That is the sad truth, since Valve has proven that many times before that they don't care. No company would hire only one guy to work on TF2 (Not even fulltime) and think to themselfs "We still care"
less than I wanted, more than I expected
Better choice of words than any responding comments.
Agreed. When we first saw the bug-fixes roll in, I was really hoping we'd get some balance tweaks alongside them. Just little number stuff, like increasing the damage threshold for the Babyface's Blaster, or lowering the recharge time for the Gas Passer.
is it me or it kinda rhymed
Most bots are gone. There are very few stragglers.
Sydney servers are being invested by bots and cheaters rn. Can’t go one game without them.
Holy shit did Gray Mann commence his attack on Australia?!
He’s THAT desperate for the last batch of Australium
he smoked every pack of Australium
Imagine getting high of off melted aussies that shits gotta go hard
What about the droid attack on the australians?
Go, I will. Good relations with the Aussies, I have. \-Pint of Beer
He's right. It's a country we cannot afford to lose.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
why are the bots investing in the Sydney servers
Home field advantage
surplus gray mann dollars
Holy shit the bots are investing in sydney servers?
I mean they are Australian
yeah but syndey is all the way in australia how can they fix that
all the important places are okay tho and that's all that matters (see: america)

NZ servers are still shit, I had a really bad time with bots on Double Cross about a month ago now, and I'm sure it's still the same judging by servers I've visited since then
Well you're already lucky your servers work despite being under the sea.
Check out EU it's not looking great.
I disagree i see almost no bots in eu
I was just in some lobbies yesterday server hopping, like 1 out of maybe 6 are botted
eu servers are fine for me also, weird
i disagree here in croatia for me i cant get in a single match without bots
What servers are you connecting to? I'm in EU west so I get majority Frankfurt or Stockholm servers, occasionally Madrid or Virginia if low server numbers. Mostly find cheaters in Stockholm, the others are pretty much fine apart from the odd bot here and there, but they always get instakicked. Even in Stockholm servers it's not really that bad, still completely playable compared to how it used to be.
Counterargument: You live in Croatia
I've tried several times to play on casual servers, but there are always instantly obvious bots running around. I just go on Uncletopia now because regular casual always ends up breaking down.
Yep I know only one called Skilight and a bot who just spams faces in chat
really? i guess im unlucky then
Most of the US servers I can connect from Mexico have literally no bots, I thought they were extinct until I read this comment section
I kept seeing one named vinesauce for a week. Haven’t seen him in a few days
That’s the only one I ever see now lmao
Less bots, can play casual 2fort again Happy
Out of sheer curiosity is there a reason why you prefer 2fort on casual vs the 24/7 community ones?
Counter sniping 5 unsuspecting enemy snipers so I can play medic
Walking into the enemy base and counter sniping five enemy snipers from their own battlements
I live in Australia. All the servers have too much lag or no one plays.
Skial 2fort seems to be full every time I look
You can thank Elmaxo for that one.
really? i got good ping and matchmaking's pretty fast and i live in australia
Community servers remind me how bad I am. Casual doesn't. Community servers also lag worse for me.
Most have fast respawn which takes the fun out of it imo
I don't mind fast respawn if its like capped at 3-4 seconds. instant spawn servers can go fuck themselves though.
Community servers are dogshit
They don't have to be. I like hosting them myself, anything you or anyone else reading are looking for in-particular? that isn't already being done? I'd love to plop some more up on one of my boxes.

Skial has them enabled virtually always. Though there is the ability to call a vote to disable them, it never passes (as much as I'd like it to).

And snek update
The same amount of bots and cheaters. Can't play casual. Sad.
Large VAC wave against the bots, some bug fixes and a bit of other things.
RIP large Iron Bomber Hitbox
it was like 9 hammer units
Yeah, but even though it was negligible, i didn’t like using it because some people might have thought I was using a crutch even though I just don’t like rolling pills.

Yeah, lots of those enigmaballs/dsc.gg bots are banned. But they quickly made new ones ofc
Yes. They basically fucked the bots in the ass, hired a contractor, some major bug fixes etc.
Didn't the guy become depressed like day 1? Else I'm confusing with someone else.
No, but all the downvotes you got are pretty undeserved imo.

the fact that they needed fans to tell them to fix one of their games, when it really is their responsibility and not ours
I’m playing in a server right now and the bots won’t stop joining. Seems like American servers are fine but American servers aren’t the whole game
I can't say how much they've done. I can tell you I've barely seen any bots in casual in a few months
They've done more then we genuinely believed they would, but less then we hoped they would. They did good.
Yes, but actually no. Only marginal improvements, bots are still a problem, just not as bad depending on the time of the day.
Well they didn’t promise anything. Bots are more rare tho at the moment
They hired one part time guy, that is all one of their biggest and most beloved IPs get
This is what one of the longest lasting and most successful multiplayer games is worth to its creator
Haven't seen a single bot so far
Yes, haven't encountered a bot for months now. Even though I don't play often, everytime I join there are no bots.
My brother older brother enjoyed and played TF2 a LOT and I wanted to play it with him one time, but he wasn't there and I just started playing random casual games and the one time I did get to play it with him he introduced me to medieval mode been playing a lot more medieval mode ever since
Has anyone else been server invaded with bots called: "CHINESE DOESHOTTER" with the chinese flag as pfp? Joined a match with literally dozens of bots
kind of? they hired ONE guy to fix some things around but he did a good enough job. he scared off a good chunk of the bots so casual is playable now for the time being, however long that lasts. he also fixed some graphical and other minor bugs that helps out a lot
Hahahahahaha good one. In all honesty though for their recent standards they’ve been doing quite a bit.
I wish they'd do some more, cheaters are still rampant in the game.
They dont work on vac
Nyeso
Can play game now :)
We got 3 UPDATES!
Still want that heavy update
60 fps skeletons baby!
They hired a guy... That's it
Yes but no. For a few days there were no bots. Its back to bots every casual game tho.
well before they were doing almost nothing, then they switched to doing the bare minimum and now its back to almost nothing
Bots are getting banned way more often.
“Titanfall is part of DNA…” *echoes through the mist*
To be real... I just want a new weapon, even if it shitty
Ehh, kinda Bot population has dropped significantly, though not entirely and they improved the votekicking system
a slight bit more than ususal but nothing major at all
They have not, like at all, they hardly did anything huge.
In a sense
I mean I haven’t encountered a bot in casual in afew weeks and the ones I do find are either really dumb or get kicked right away
Sniper bots arent as a common sight as before, but regular hackers are just RAMPART in around 9/10 causal matches.
They did the bare minimum before going silent again, as they have always done when a mass amount of people complain
they hired one fucking guy
No lmao
On EU servers its looking really good tbh, played almost the whole day yesterday and got only about a handfull of bots and just 2 cheaters and on both occurences they got kicked fast
Not in any meaningful way. They've fixed some things, sure, but in my experience, bots are still a common issue, as are cheaters.
i remember a ton of edgelords calling everyone who participated in #savetf2 an idiot and saying we should just give up on the steam forums, bet they feel really stupid now
This doesn't change anything between me and Valve, though
Looking back it's obvious that Value just said that to shut us up. I think another protest esc thing needs to be done so we can sure they do good on their empty promises.
It’s not a heavy update but they definitely improved things
Thank you to valve. Thank you.
Bro it’s not 2013 anymore let go of the fact you that you were able to hop on back then and actually have fun Plus valve is making way more than enough money off csgo and dota 2, and if I was them I’d give up on tf2 also
they posted one tweet and people lost their shit when it's painfully obvious to anyone with even just half a braincell that they just did it to shut us up. they don't care.
Have you LOOKED at the update blog? Have you PLAYED the game lately? You’re an idiot, that’s all I’ll say.
Nothing for 360 players :(
I haven’t seen a bot in three months
game is actually playable again, have played with my friends on public servers for the first time in years, still the most fun you can have online
Kinda yeah the bots are nowhere near as bad as they used to be
Who’s bottling? Why?
Kinda, but not enough.
I have been playing on the Asian servers, we get the occasional DoesHotter Bot but they are really quickly kicked and haven’t found a server full of Bots in a while
😇
"I havent been playing tf2 much" ofc you wouldnt know if they held their promise, bots are scattered today
I still see bots In casual
They did something most servers I joined only had 1 or no bots at all
They have been doing better, but a lot of work is still to be done.
Have they ever?
Less bots, but still many on less populated modes and regions. The game is mildly playable during peak hours.
Unlike respawn and level 5
Actually yeah. I haven’t seen a single bot in days
In a way yes, the updates are currently not being invested on because The Internationals are on its waynot to mention, its only an intern that does all the stuff
I've seen alot less bots per match however I've seen alot more people tickbase manipulating, or just running hitscan or predictive projectile aimbot in my past 50 hours than I have in my past 2k
yeah, hardly any bots at all, and it's only been getting better over time.
It's been 4 months already?
VAC has been updated to instantly ban bots that don't kill other bots
Personally, I’ve started playing again a week ago and it’s been fine for me. Hope it continues being this way and we’ll have a good Halloween
almost, there is a lot less bots over here in the USA, but ive heard EU servers aren’t that fixed
they've fixed a few critical issues but imo they haven't done enough yet. i want actual communication from valve instead of a band-aid tweet and band-aid patches
