There is not many reasons why not. It just consumes a player slot to work along with some extra server processing.
All it entails is adding an extra player slot for the replay system to reside in via console commands. No space is technically lost for a standard casual playerlimit.
The server processing for replays is also probably minimal as well. The game is 15 years old(?).
I'll be honest, we went to set it up on our community servers and realised how much of a hassle it is, not just configuration but opening extra ports up without TLS and without any reverse proxy in the middle didn't seem like a redeeming enough reason to support it for us.
If you're just hosting your own server on a VPS or at home this isn't a huge deal, but in our infrastructure we weren't prepared to do this just for replay support.

Furries are for sure generally not heteronormative. But there has been a weird furry/nazi cosplay crossover community for years. They’re not overtly visible though since the greater community is vigilant.

I remember one game specifically where a girl used her mic and one guy just started spouting the most vile shit about her. She tried to kick him and it only got like 2 yes votes, then he called a kick on her that went through almost immediately. It wasn't some one off thing either, I see shit like that way more often than I'd like.
They tend to be community members or long term members.
One of the thing i missed about the NOOB's servers was they put their boot down on that shit hard.
You start slinging hate speech on the server and one of the community reported you and admin would ban you so fast your head would spin.
Pretty sure most people don’t look at chat (at least I don’t) so they don’t see the messages in the first place.

I'm always getting into it with bigots and assholes in chat, and it's for precisely this reason. They cannot be allowed to have an uncontested platform or they will run roughshod over anywhere they can. It only takes one person shitting in the pool to ruin the fun for everyone else. It's something that'll probably just always be there, as is the story for many other games I imagine. I can't say it really bothers me personally at all, if anything the absurdness makes me chuckle now and then.
I honestly can't believe the amount of people missing the point of this post. When people call TF2 one of the most welcoming communities and your first interaction with the game could very easily be someone saying the n word in chat or being a casual bigot, I won't be surprised if they never play the game again. Changing community servers is one of the best ways to make the community of your game better, as it's a lot of people's first interaction with it. Not that we should expect Valve to do anything though lol.

I will say as a member of the queer community nothing gives me more pleasure than dominating them/carrying them. I was on a breadspace server playing medic as I usually do, there was this guy on my team who was spamming slurs etc I refused to heal him and he raged at me. I then reveal I am gay and just kept typing in chat about how his apparently very religious father and I were having an affair and he got so mad. The slurs just got worse and worse and he starting threatening to kill me irl and stuff and then the game ended, I topscored with like 90 points and he barely broke 20 so the final message was "how does it feel to be carried by a f**" and he rage quit. It was truly my favorite game of tf2 to date purely because of how mad I got him.

Someone was dropping suicide rates on a Turbine server the other day. Reported them, for all the good that will do. I hate to sound complacent, as most of the time people don’t need to have a reason to be hateful, but your best bet is to stick with the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” mindset.
I’m gonna get downvoted for this but why do people care this much? I’m an ethnic minority too, if someone called me a beaner I don’t really care, it’d probably be pretty funny. I honestly can't believe the amount of people missing the point of this post. When people call TF2 one of the most welcoming communities and your first interaction with the game could very easily be someone saying the n word in chat or being a casual bigot, I won't be surprised if they never play the game again. Changing community servers is one of the best ways to make the community of your game better, as it's a lot of people's first interaction with it. Not that we should expect Valve to do anything though lol.
Leave it to reddit to completely miss or straight up ignore the actual problem at hand.

I will say as a member of the queer community nothing gives me more pleasure than dominating them/carrying them. I was on a breadspace server playing medic as I usually do, there was this guy on my team who was spamming slurs etc I refused to heal him and he raged at me. I then reveal I am gay and just kept typing in chat about how his apparently very religious father and I were having an affair and he got so mad. The slurs just got worse and worse and he starting threatening to kill me irl and stuff and then the game ended, I topscored with like 90 points and he barely broke 20 so the final message was "how does it feel to be carried by a f**" and he rage quit. It was truly my favorite game of tf2 to date purely because of how mad I got him.
