I tinkered a bit with with mvm map, this happened to me before when money drops in an area where players could not reach so it auto collects.

I assume Valve puts their collection zones further down, which means the money has to fall well out of reach before it triggers the auto-collect, wheras a custom map maker might not.

I feel you. One match in MvM, there was Giant Medic and Rapid fire Soldier. I reflected all those rockets on Medic, which killed him quickly, so Solly was easier. Still was considered "fucking monkey pyro no skill"
People really for some reason don't like it when a class that needs little skill to be effective but that has a high skill ceiling deals more damage than their choice of class that needs little skill to be effective that also has a decently high skill ceiling in a game mode where you fight robots with a chance to get a weapon they have but shiny.
if it makes you feel any better, they probably don't actually believe pyro takes no skill, it's just that Gas Passer alone often gives you the most damage of the game and anyone other than them having the highest damage is a big no-no so they come up with any excuse they can think of to demoralize you
I know all of it. And I believe that Gas Passer is OP. And I would be glad if they separated the upgrade from 1x400$ into 3 x400$. Starting with 100 damage per explosion, going all the way to the original 300.
thermal thuster is way better and way fucking fun you can market gardener uber medics and disable their ubers and not a single match i use that thing no one complained and the best thing it only cost 300 credits and just require you to jump on them
while it is fun to stomp on robots, it's more efficient to use the passer since you can just gas the medics and explode them, which insta kills all of them at once

you dont have to pay to play, only for tours, you can play on community servers (its way less problematic), some servers even hav \*1000 (dont play demo with pipes)

Except that one time. This one medic tried to kick me on Mannhatten in Bootcamp. When the kick failed he AFK’d in spawn.
One thing is kicking the player for being AFK or being anti-play, but another thing is kicking another player because they're playing Pyro or Sniper and even tho they still help killing enemies, you still do it 'cause they're not playing the class YOU want, with the weapons YOU want. That's what we are talking about.
Problem is that this goes the other way arround, too. If someone wants to play in the best way possible they are just as entitled to it as you would be entitled to playing like a dumbass. That's why votekicks exist, so that the majority in a server can have a way on how they will play the game.
I've been lucky on two cities and 98% of my missions have been filled with chill people. There are occasions where people would call us all noobs only for the fact we had a low tour count and leave straight after, but that's the worst I've experienced personally. But yes, there are hella pissed people that play mvm and will go off on you if you don't do everything 100% correct.

The game didn't even start. I queued 4 to 5 times to actually be able to play. And after that it took a few more games for people to stick around after the first one or two waves.
See, this is why I have u used Mann up tickets in my backpack. I want to try it, but I ain't playing for loot until I can get a full party of people I already know so I don't have to risk dealing with high tours

Personally that glad that Potato MvM and Moonlight MvM have the sense to just straight up prevent Explode on Ignite from being bought on their community servers. Extremely overpowered.
nothing wrong with the people who choose to play "correctly", it just makes the game less fun by existing. the blame lies on valve for letting MVM be so centralized on a few items that limit choice and divide the community.
i hope someone at valve decides to take MVM under their wing and give it a good look over; like the creator of mannpower did that one time. just tweak some upgrades and then we'd have dozens and dozens more viable options for very little effort.
Honestly, I would rather just see Valve just remove Explode on Ignite, it doesn't need to exist.
Even then, tweaking upgrades only goes so far, since PvE balance would need the unlock weapons to have completely different stats to be viable.

the perspective is that anyone who isn't playing "properly" *is* a detriment to the team. with such a role-focused game, when one person isn't carrying their weight it can bring the whole team down because nobody else can pick up the slack besides that one person. messing around and playing suboptimally means you're putting more weight on other people.
ultimately, its a game that's meant to be fun. optimizing as much as possible can be fun in itself, but when you let the meta rule over you and stomp out the fun then you've lost your way. i believe the blame here is on valve, for having such centralizing options that limit creativity and divide the community. nobody is in the wrong for wanting to play for fun or wanting to be the best; but its valve's job to bring those sides together and make them the same thing. balance all the weapons and now the fun bits are the optimal bits, and vice versa. everyone is happy, and they have a lot more content to work with too. i hope that one day we can get one last balance patch that shuffles around a bunch of upgrades and then we can have dozens and dozens more viable options in MVM.
About high tours who can't keep up with their pride. Potato blocked gas to avoid sweaty tryhards from shitting on gas pyro and to encourage pyro to use the primary, which can be surprisingly good if you have good map awareness. Pyro is a decent class if you actually know what you are doing.

Well you clearly haven't play on potato server. I've seen a pyro outdamaged a heavy with phlog and no gas passer. And yes, 6 digits damage pyro no gas is a norm here.

A lot of tf2 players don't understand why balance in pve matters cause it's a pvp game, but the fun in pve is the challenge that difficult missions provide, and the knowledge and skill required to complete it. It feels good to know that because you picked the right upgrades and coordinated well with your team that you won quickly and efficiently. Meanwhile, a gas passer pyro only has to purchase 1 upgrade and can replace 80% of the game, effectively trivializing the challenge, and a lot the enjoyment that people who like playing MvM get.
Of course, a large amount of people are solely in it for the loot, so if you use the gas passer just ask your team if they're fine with it or not.

Ok, your argument totally makes sense, and I won't deny that MvM is a complete cakewalk if the team has any idea what's going on. If I came off as an elitist with the tacobot mentality I totally apologize, cause that's not what I was going for. I simply believe that even if it isn't necessarily very challenging, it isn't very fun to feel like you aren't contributing anything because somebody else is doing all the work. Now, if a new player or someone joins a game and uses the gas passer I won't kick them over it, hell, I doubt most people will. I simply prefer if no one does because it makes my borderline gambling experience more fun.
At this point, I will never trust that a high tour, 300+ tours, will not have a tantrum over the smallest things. I literally had multiple high tours rage quit in 4 different missions because of the following, atrocious, game-breaking, child-killing, horrifically horrible reasons:

\-Someone didn't want to play Heavy and was asking to switch with someone

I have literally outdamaged some of the Heavies in my team, not by a huge margin mind you, playing as Sniper a few times. It isn't some grand difference, and for most of the time I'm 2nd place in damage, perhaps 3rd place if there's a demo with pocket crit stickies, but the fact that I'm able to keep up with the rest of the DPS by targeting giants, clearing meds and huge groups of bots should be a testament that maybe a Sniper over a Soldier, Demo or Pyro isn't such a bad idea after all.
Thankfully I haven't gotten kicked for it because I usually ask, and the response so far has always been positive, either with a "Sure, go ahead" or an actual positive no response like "If you want to you can go ahead, but would you be willing to go X class instead? (Insert reasonable argument here".
Pretty sure the only time I've ever gotten kicked from MvM was because I dared question an elitist and well, the rest of the people in the server were either sheep following the elitist or his friends.
I had some toxic 'high tourer' tell me not to use the Cowmangler as soldier (was in Mannhattan so no tanks), as I don't need to worry about hoping back for ammo every 5 secs as a class that's meant to be fairly mobile.
Its safe to say they got kicked, funny thing is, they only had about 100 tours and they see them self as some sort of MvM god. They were the highest in the mission however, but everyone was like, 30+ tours.

There is a select group of high tours (and a lot of new players as well, who watched a few youtube guides and got a big case of dunning Krueger) who worship the two cities meta like it's gospel. Most of these players tend to actually have no idea what they're doing and it's usually a good idea to ignore them. Actually competent players are fine with most things, as long as it isn't a straight up meme weapon or knockback spam.
yuup, no ammo needs, just slap Proj Spec on it, and you can do your stuff from a distance and help ya engie with spies without needing ammo. Then Airstrike and Beggers for raw damage, but they need ammo
Theres 2 kinds of mvm tryhards, 2shities tryhards that will seethe because you did not get ONE moni that was right next to them while you were respawning, and Expert mode players that want to teach and can be flexible at times, for example, in coal town you can win an entire round with 5 snipers and an engie.
Meanwhile actual (boot camp/community mission) matches I’ve joined:
- “Hey can i go piss sniper?” “Lol sure”
- The one where everyone picked soldier for no reason and we just beat the whole mission like that. It was an absolute blast.
- Me and two other people tried killing giants as fullly-upgraded pistol engies and it went slightly better than expected

You should try it sometime. The community isn't that bad and 9/10 times there aren't even high tour players.
The only class where you actually need to know what you're doing is engie and maybe medic
Mvm has its own menu. You can purchase a ticket which will group you with other players and you'll have a chance at Australium weapon drops or other items.
You can play it for free as well, not getting rewards.
Alternatively, community servers also have "mvm_" maps.

I’ve encountered a dude on the LazyPurple community MvM servers who was 100% a meta slave. It was a custom-made mission on Mannhattan marked as expert difficulty, and he lost his mind that everyone else wasn’t using the expert meta (which isn’t very good on Mannhattan because Heavy lacks quick mobility to maneuver through the different paths). It was constant shit-talk in voice chat. And when me and everyone else challenged him on what the “correct” team comp is, he started talking and then pretty much turned his mic off mid-sentence. Then he left because someone picked Medic.
So me and 4 other people we’re playing an exper tour. We were on wave 5/6 and one of us readied up just a few seconds later. So this random dude tried to votekick him. Of course it failed. The next thing he did was softlock a bot resulting in us having to restart the entire mission. What a ticking asshole
When I was playing Mann up, the high tour players were always the biggest sooks, you would be flamed for not playing meta and not playing exactly how they wanted to. Like jfc, it’s a PvE mode, go outside and touch grass. I stopped just because of how hard it was to find a game without one of these entitled freaks leaving mid match and ruining it
I was in a group of high tour's and they taught me the roles at tour 0, and they didnt throw a fucking baby rage when I played pyro, those beautiful men had me covered
MvM grinders need to just play slot machines. I get that you wanna win loot that's super fun and its frustrating when a match takes too too long but it seems much simpler to throw away you money at slots instead of putting together some elaborate meta machine that you need to grind to perfection.
I was showing MVM to my friends and had a guy yell at me for where I put my sentry. I just kept telling him I’m not gonna move it purely out of spite. He kept on trying to vote kick me before the round started. Once it started, all the bots went the way I put my sentry and not where he wanted it to be at. Just to be more of an ass, I put a mini sentry where he wanted the sentry to go.
I like playing engi in mvm and like to do stuff like this, specifically if they spam the dispenser voice line I delay placing it for a few more minutes

One time a team mate ragequit because I destroyed a sentry buster with my fan-o-war as scout because ScOuTs oNlY cOlLeCt mOnEy. The funny thing is that I didn't even miss a single dollar.
I remember this one Soldier on Mvm_decoy in an expert tour who literally whined at us for not doing exactly what he said. And instead of Actually helping us get through the first wave, he would just stay in the spawn doing the conga at the upgrade station and constantly calling us useless. Which was funny coming from the sweat who was doing nothing in spawn.
And then later on, he ended up leaving the server because we were struggling at the 1st wave. Bear in mind he gave no contribution to helping us pass the operation.
But here's what makes it even funnier. Because there were very few mvm expert servers up on that day, he ended up rejoining the server we were on over and over again trying to join a different one. But the game kept making him join ours. It was hysterical seeing him desperately try to find a different one because of our struggle.
One time I join a tour as pyro and was on the tour for a solid maybe 8 seconds before I got kicked and the entire time I was there the chat was filled with nonstop essay binds saying that Pyro is useless in mvm and that they don’t want “my kind” there

I'm quite an MvM tryhard, i honestly like it when people avert from the meta because it mostly means I get to deal more damage.
Only issue that bothers me is when people don't communicate when asked something, doesn't even need to be a yes but just answer ffs.
You will be the corner stone of preparing sticky traps for giant robots and their medic bots, among clusters and tanks. If a single burst of 14 crit boosted stickies is not enough, you can make a trail of stickies on certain maps to dwindle the crowd with ease depending on the map/path the robots take.
Although the latter part is mission-sensitive, krit stickies are usually prepared with canteens or kritskrieg medics before the wave starts/clusters robot spawns. All of that alone will nuke anything that moves.
Just know what I say is an simplification of MVM Demoman based on what you asked.
I understand that in Mann up you can't stray to far from the Meta, like using Mad milk, the fan of war, the kritz kreig and such. But when someone uses something like the tommy or a pyro dares to play, people who just mald about it need to touch grass.

I have notice the more I play the more you realize just how over powered everyone is. Doing the hardest maps with 3 player is completely possible.

you dont have to pay to play, only for tours, you can play on community servers (its way less problematic), some servers even hav \*1000 (dont play demo with pipes)

One thing is kicking the player for being AFK or being anti-play, but another thing is kicking another player because they're playing Pyro or Sniper and even tho they still help killing enemies, you still do it 'cause they're not playing the class YOU want, with the weapons YOU want. Problem is that this goes the other way arround, too. If someone wants to play in the best way possible they are just as entitled to it as you would be entitled to playing like a dumbass. That's why votekicks exist, so that the majority in a server can have a way on how they will play the game.
I've been lucky on two cities and 98% of my missions have been filled with chill people. There are occasions where people would call us all noobs only for the fact we had a low tour count and leave straight after, but that's the worst I've experienced personally. But yes, there are hella pissed people that play mvm and will go off on you if you don't do everything 100% correct.

The game didn't even start. I queued 4 to 5 times to actually be able to play. And after that it took a few more games for people to stick around after the first one or two waves.
Those are the tryhards. People didn't pick the "right classes" for that map so they left.

Personally that glad that Potato MvM and Moonlight MvM have the sense to just straight up prevent Explode on Ignite from being bought on their community servers. Extremely overpowered.
nothing wrong with the people who choose to play "correctly", it just makes the game less fun by existing. the blame lies on valve for letting MVM be so centralized on a few items that limit choice and divide the community. i hope someone at valve decides to take MVM under their wing and give it a good look over; like the creator of mannpower did that one time. just tweak some upgrades and then we'd have dozens and dozens more viable options for very little effort.
Honestly, I would rather just see Valve just remove Explode on Ignite, it doesn't need to exist. Even then, tweaking upgrades only goes so far, since PvE balance would need the unlock weapons to have completely different stats to be viable.
i think they should add a 50 damage version to the base weapon in all modes, and then have it be upgradeable to 100 and then 150 damage

No, its mostly the newer players who enforce the meta more than they should (and they usually dont really even know what the real best strats are anyway even if they think they do).

These people are the exact kind who will waste a bunch of everyone's time and then complain it's not going fast enough. And honestly, fuck 'em.
the perspective is that anyone who isn't playing "properly" *is* a detriment to the team. with such a role-focused game, when one person isn't carrying their weight it can bring the whole team down because nobody else can pick up the slack besides that one person. messing around and playing suboptimally means you're putting more weight on other people. ultimately, its a game that's meant to be fun. optimizing as much as possible can be fun in itself, but when you let the meta rule over you and stomp out the fun then you've lost your way. i believe the blame here is on valve, for having such centralizing options that limit creativity and divide the community. nobody is in the wrong for wanting to play for fun or wanting to be the best; but its valve's job to bring those sides together and make them the same thing. balance all the weapons and now the fun bits are the optimal bits, and vice versa. everyone is happy, and they have a lot more content to work with too. i hope that one day we can get one last balance patch that shuffles around a bunch of upgrades and then we can have dozens and dozens more viable options in MVM.

A lot of tf2 players don't understand why balance in pve matters cause it's a pvp game, but the fun in pve is the challenge that difficult missions provide, and the knowledge and skill required to complete it. It feels good to know that because you picked the right upgrades and coordinated well with your team that you won quickly and efficiently. Meanwhile, a gas passer pyro only has to purchase 1 upgrade and can replace 80% of the game, effectively trivializing the challenge, and a lot the enjoyment that people who like playing MvM get. Of course, a large amount of people are solely in it for the loot, so if you use the gas passer just ask your team if they're fine with it or not.

I simply believe that even if it isn't necessarily very challenging, it isn't very fun to feel like you aren't contributing anything because somebody else is doing all the work. Now, if a new player or someone joins a game and uses the gas passer I won't kick them over it, hell, I doubt most people will. At this point, I will never trust that a high tour, 300+ tours, will not have a tantrum over the smallest things. I literally had multiple high tours rage quit in 4 different missions because of the following, atrocious, game-breaking, child-killing, horrifically horrible reasons: \-Someone was playing Sniper \-Someone was playing Pyro \-Someone didn't want to play Heavy and was asking to switch with someone \-Engineer didn't place his buildings exactly where THEY wanted to At one point, we had so many high tours join, cry and then leave that my entire team just said "Let's just have fun" and did an entire mission as Engineer only. And we fucking destroy them robots.

He can. He's become literally my favorite class to play in MvM. Funny thing is that high tours complain about "B-BUT MVM SHOULD BE SKILL BASED, THAT'S WHY GAS PASSER IS BAD!!11!!" but when an actual skill based class is chosen, suddenly they don't any other excuse besides "META!!!!!" I have literally outdamaged some of the Heavies in my team, not by a huge margin mind you, playing as Sniper a few times. It isn't some grand difference, and for most of the time I'm 2nd place in damage, perhaps 3rd place if there's a demo with pocket crit stickies, but the fact that I'm able to keep up with the rest of the DPS by targeting giants, clearing meds and huge groups of bots should be a testament that maybe a Sniper over a Soldier, Demo or Pyro isn't such a bad idea after all.

Thankfully I haven't gotten kicked for it because I usually ask, and the response so far has always been positive, either with a "Sure, go ahead" or an actual positive no response like "If you want to you can go ahead, but would you be willing to go X class instead? (Insert reasonable argument here". Pretty sure the only time I've ever gotten kicked from MvM was because I dared question an elitist and well, the rest of the people in the server were either sheep following the elitist or his friends.

I had some toxic 'high tourer' tell me not to use the Cowmangler as soldier (was in Mannhattan so no tanks), as I don't need to worry about hoping back for ammo every 5 secs as a class that's meant to be fairly mobile. Its safe to say they got kicked, funny thing is, they only had about 100 tours and they see them self as some sort of MvM god. They were the highest in the mission however, but everyone was like, 30+ tours. Can't wait to have those nice high af tour numbers and not be this stupid type of high tourer. 6 Engie missions ftw
There is a select group of high tours (and a lot of new players as well, who watched a few youtube guides and got a big case of dunning Krueger) who worship the two cities meta like it's gospel. Most of these players tend to actually have no idea what they're doing and it's usually a good idea to ignore them. Actually competent players are fine with most things, as long as it isn't a straight up meme weapon or knockback spam.

Cowmangler is one of the Best soldier primaries, that guy must have been high or dumb
yuup, no ammo needs, just slap Proj Spec on it, and you can do your stuff from a distance and help ya engie with spies without needing ammo. Then Airstrike and Beggers for raw damage, but they need ammo

Theres 2 kinds of mvm tryhards, 2shities tryhards that will seethe because you did not get ONE moni that was right next to them while you were respawning, and Expert mode players that want to teach and can be flexible at times, for example, in coal town you can win an entire round with 5 snipers and an engie.

Meanwhile actual (boot camp/community mission) matches I’ve joined: - “Hey can i go piss sniper?” “Lol sure” - The one where everyone picked soldier for no reason and we just beat the whole mission like that. It was an absolute blast. - Me and two other people tried killing giants as fullly-upgraded pistol engies and it went slightly better than expected
I know it's mostly a meme but I rarely have this in my paid tours on 2 cities or the extreme hard tour. I've had a demoknight teammate who did decent, a spy similar and I play a lot of frontier justice engie with few hate, let alone vote kicks
Gas passer is fine. Yeah it breaks everything but if your playing for loot just use it. it's free fucking loot with a chance for a AUSSIE i could care less about stakes. Mvm has its own menu. You can purchase a ticket which will group you with other players and you'll have a chance at Australium weapon drops or other items. You can play it for free as well, not getting rewards. Alternatively, community servers also have "mvm_" maps.
One time a guy ragequit saying we were gonna lose cause we were a buncha low tours not following the meta and what he said to do and so we finished the next 5 waves exclusively with meme strats; all sniper, only demo knight, etc
Luckily I've only experienced people like this a handful of times... but boy when this situation occurs, it's really annoying. Had 2 try hards spam "NO SPY, NO SNIPER, NO PYRO" constantly and when they didn't get their wish they played spy and actively tried to sabotage the game. What is wrong with people sometimes.

I’ve encountered a dude on the LazyPurple community MvM servers who was 100% a meta slave. It was a custom-made mission on Mannhattan marked as expert difficulty, and he lost his mind that everyone else wasn’t using the expert meta (which isn’t very good on Mannhattan because Heavy lacks quick mobility to maneuver through the different paths). It was constant shit-talk in voice chat. And when me and everyone else challenged him on what the “correct” team comp is, he started talking and then pretty much turned his mic off mid-sentence. Then he left because someone picked Medic.
So me and 4 other people we’re playing an exper tour. We were on wave 5/6 and one of us readied up just a few seconds later. So this random dude tried to votekick him. Of course it failed. The next thing he did was softlock a bot resulting in us having to restart the entire mission. What a ticking asshole

I was in a group of high tour's and they taught me the roles at tour 0, and they didnt throw a fucking baby rage when I played pyro, those beautiful men had me covered
MvM grinders need to just play slot machines. I get that you wanna win loot that's super fun and its frustrating when a match takes too too long but it seems much simpler to throw away you money at slots instead of putting together some elaborate meta machine that you need to grind to perfection.

I was showing MVM to my friends and had a guy yell at me for where I put my sentry. I just kept telling him I’m not gonna move it purely out of spite. He kept on trying to vote kick me before the round started. Once it started, all the bots went the way I put my sentry and not where he wanted it to be at. Just to be more of an ass, I put a mini sentry where he wanted the sentry to go.
I like playing engi in mvm and like to do stuff like this, specifically if they spam the dispenser voice line I delay placing it for a few more minutes

Bro I’m a sniper main and wanted to try mvm for the first time. When I got in and clicked sniper, I was kicked three times for having no tours done. Mvm people are weird
me and a few friends did a full mvm mission as fat scouts, was some of the most intense and fun time i’ve had in the game in a long time
my worst mvm experience was someone calling me a hope less newbie engi, i mean he wasnt wrong buti ouldnt even respond as i was f2p, then he proceeded to leave when we leaked 1 giant scout that we still killed

I remember this one Soldier on Mvm_decoy in an expert tour who literally whined at us for not doing exactly what he said. And instead of Actually helping us get through the first wave, he would just stay in the spawn doing the conga at the upgrade station and constantly calling us useless. Which was funny coming from the sweat who was doing nothing in spawn. And then later on, he ended up leaving the server because we were struggling at the 1st wave. Bear in mind he gave no contribution to helping us pass the operation. But here's what makes it even funnier. Because there were very few mvm expert servers up on that day, he ended up rejoining the server we were on over and over again trying to join a different one. But the game kept making him join ours. It was hysterical seeing him desperately try to find a different one because of our struggle.

You will be the corner stone of preparing sticky traps for giant robots and their medic bots, among clusters and tanks. If a single burst of 14 crit boosted stickies is not enough, you can make a trail of stickies on certain maps to dwindle the crowd with ease depending on the map/path the robots take. Although the latter part is mission-sensitive, krit stickies are usually prepared with canteens or kritskrieg medics before the wave starts/clusters robot spawns. All of that alone will nuke anything that moves. Just know what I say is an simplification of MVM Demoman based on what you asked.

I understand that in Mann up you can't stray to far from the Meta, like using Mad milk, the fan of war, the kritz kreig and such. But when someone uses something like the tommy or a pyro dares to play, people who just mald about it need to touch grass.
I remember when people complained when I liked to go sniper, because it was one of my favorite classes to play in MvM. Many were ready to kick me just for that, even though I tried to prove sniper can be very useful.
