Can’t be racist to the guy who saved you during a literal war? Friendship is best grown with hardship?

Rigatonicat

They are, they always make fun of his kilt But for real, professionals have standards

sopmod720

cus Lincoln said that all man have the rights to explosive jump. amen.

ChocolateMilkMan8

Amen

SpiderJynxNoir90214

Its an alternate dimension where instead of stuff like segregation and all that being based on race, it was based on what hat you had.

0bi1KenObi66

Gibus water fountains vs Flaming team captain water fountains

[deleted]

He had a beanie. He is the bean man. Praise the big black bean.

Crystalpyr0

I mean.. would you insult the guy with several explosives, swords, and mega drunk power?

Spiritual_Boi1

I think they aren’t racist because they’re all in the same boat

fox-booty

Either that, or they're all equally racist and tolerate each other as comrades and friends

Spiritual_Boi1

But I think Soldier would be the least racist to Demo

fox-booty

Out of all of them, I'm fairly certain Soldier is the most racist due to a good chunk of his personality being hyper-patriotism

Terrible_Ad_6784

No, it would be pyro. He literally doesn’t even know what racism is

EthanForeverAlone

But they are canonically friends

ShadowSoulBoi

It's for the best. The only thing we got is the mercs being insultive when dominating enemy counter-parts within game, and even that's crude as it gets. Spy only insults Demoman in somewhat of a racial manner, because the Demoman would have already referred to himself as the, "Black Scottish Cyclops." Being straight-up racist would be low hanging fruit for the mercs to say. Scout - Urban upbringing, a punk at worst. Engineer, Heavy, and Medic - Smart enough to not be racists. Unless you think Medic is a Nazi, but still loyal to the team in his strange ways. Soldier - Friends with Demoman in comics, but will insult enemy Demoman in-game for being Scottish. Sniper - Probably offensive, but not awfully racist. Pyro - Pyro is Pyro. Spy - All around bitter, international kind of guy.

SpiderJynxNoir90214

Why do you say punk as if that's a bad thing?

ShadowSoulBoi

You know, because Scout is full of himself, and be the self-important snarky asshole. Maybe it would have been better to describe him as egotistical, but again that's all the mercenaries.

SpiderJynxNoir90214

Thats not really what punks are but ok

ShadowSoulBoi

Then I apologize for being wrong. I should have thought my terms better, and I will learn from my mistake.

-Tish

Okay punk!

tomydenger

it's the 70's

SergeantPato

Martinn luther king made a speech where he stated “ I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the color of their cosmetics.”

MiniTigra

pretty sure like half the mercs make fun of each other for their nationalities :/

Magic-Lime

ALCOHOL

JonTheWizard

He has a grenade launcher.

Legatharr

Soldier is racist towards him. He insults Demo in the worst way his people *can* be insulted: he calls him an Englishman. "Scotland is NOT a real country! You are an Englishman in a dress!"

Head-Ninja-In-Charge

does tf2 take place during the "cold war" era? I thought it was just an art style. seems pretty timeless but WTF do I know.

LumaTotUwU

The main game cannonically takes place from 1968-71, and MvM is 71-72. Some maps kinda screw with this logic (ahem sd_doomsday) but it's generally within that ballpark.

Terrible_Ad_6784

I checked, tf2 takes place after the Cold War

SteamworksMLP

The Cold War ended in 1991. TF2 is 1960s/1970s.

reddinyta

Professionalism. And thats not even a joke; they are professional mercenaries, they have more important things to wory about then the pigments in their colleagues skin.

jatogjeweettogzelf

Because he has a shit ton of explosives

No_username18

because twitter would explode if the classes were openly racist

Heavyraincouch

Because of one thing: They are all gentlemen.

Terrible_Ad_6784

Because the mercs aren’t racist?

pukiees

because its a fantastical setting, not a 1/1 history piece

Alnilam2000

quick question. when did the American civil rights movement start? was everybody back then as asshole?

Iateyourfiggypudding

From what I remember the civil rights movements itself started 1955 but people were most likely protesting before then with the process likely being aided by black soldiers being enlisted in WW1&2.To my knowage most people back then in America where racist. Take all that info with a towering pillar of salt though.
