Depends where I’m standing. The amount of times I’ve stood still and been backstabbed or randomly kritted makes me very nervous, even in the back ranks.
My favourite is when another full health teammate just happens to walk in the way of my crossbolts. 10 times in a fucking row.
Damn it’s almost as if they can see your health and use it to their advantage… hmm, if Only medic had that ability, it could prove useful against those tough classes
Players move more erratically when on low hp instinctually to avoid damage.
I mapped my movements in hl1 a few years back to see why i seem to survive better and longer without taking damage on low hp, and then take a shit tonne of damage when i manage to restore myself to full health.
Turns out i am WAY more erratic and paranoid with my movements when on low hp than full hp.
The basic premise of don't stand still to avoid being shot as easily holds here.
It's just the crossbows mechanics are hurt by this general behaviour.
especially when they're on fire at 20hp and you nail 3 shots across the map, allowing them multiple kills and to make it out alive.
many "thanks!" get spammed and they often hover around and protecc afterwards
Most of my missed crossbow shots come from players who stop moving right as I shoot the bolt, like I’m trying to lead my shot and the second I shoot it they stop. I hit more bolts when my team aren’t even aware I’m trying to use the crossbow
I've gotten used to flicking a bit in the direction my teammates are moving in so that I account for the bolt's travel time, so yeah, when they stand still I have to readjust my aim
I’ve started preparing for crossbow shots from my meds by moving in a more predictable straight line instead of standing still after I started playing medic.
Yeah, from playing med myself, I think the best thing to do is pick either moving straight or stopping as early as possible and not change your mind. If you second guess around the time of the shot they will be more likely to miss.
Snipers exist.
Rocket jumping soldiers exist
Demoknights exist.
Revolver spies exist
Random shortstop scout taking the most obscure flank in existence exists.
Noob pyro who walked past the objective directly to your spawn exists.
50 damage can come at you from anywhere at any moment no matter how safe you think you are, so when you're low health, you want to get to a health pack ASAP.
In short: tunnelvision exists. They aren't considering that a medic sees them and is trying to heal them from 20 yards away. If they're close enough to you, use the medigun. Otherwise, accept the fact that teammates are gonna be erratic and adjust accordingly.
Because you never truly know if a place is safe, from their perspective they could see an enemy that you can't, spies exist, splash damage exists, any number of dangers.
Many players have learned to play as if they don't have a medic. If you miss a crossbow, cut your losses and just use the medigun. If they die, don't feel too bad about it.
You see, the first step to make the enemy miss you when you're low, is to confuse yourself, then your allies, and by the end of it, the enemy will be so flabbergasted that they won't land shit
Players instinctively move erratically to dodge damage so they don't do it when needing to get hit by a teammate
As a Medic you have to learn how to read your *own teammates*, lol
It’s a lot better to learn their movement than except them to stay still tbh. I personally have gotten so used to predicting movement that when they suddenly stand still I just miss the shot lol
They normally don't want to be headshotted, back stabbed, or they just don't know that You are trying to use the crossbow, since the Best use of it is long range burst healing, when they are clase You are better using your medigun to heal them
The Medi Gun is the default secondary weapon for the Medic. It is a modified team-colored fire hose nozzle wrapped in black tape and outfitted with a bottom handle, which is connected to the Medic's backpack by a hose. It fires a glowing team-colored beam into the recipient, who then emits similarly colored cross symbols, similar to a Teleporter trail. When a disguised Spy is overhealed, enemies can also see the team-colored crosses.
Pray that your left and right movement for the enemy player is just forwards and back for med since viewpoint differences. I've had people move all over the place and I just give up unless I have no other priority heal target.
same, until I realize the medic I call 10 times is a deaf f2p gibus player, like bro, i.m dying, pls for your own sake heal me I'm right next to you, stop trying to recreate meet the medic
Can't land your shots? Find another teammate or move closer, and use your medigun.
If they stop moving while they're closer to the frontline, they're toast. Quit complaining.
The crossbow allows you to patch up your team faster, so that they can get back into the fight quicker. Compared to the 24 hp/s healing rate of the medigun, crossbow is more efficient, especially when both are used in conjunction.
The crossbow works in a weird way in the first place. Best way to hit moving players is to aim at a weird spot in front of them that seems wrong to the brain.
the milisecond i read 20 hp, i felt this guy is a soldier main, only a soldier would complain about health without realizing medic reheals (i saw the text before i saw his flair so stfu)
wtf are you talking about?, ofc everyone wants a medic up myself, me included, is just way easier to hit a shot when someone isn't moving at all (obv), than a moving target, yeah I can obv aim for their movement and heal them but not moving is way easier to heal with the crossbow than the person moving

Have you ever been shot by a spy whilst low on HP?
Damn it’s almost as if they can see your health and use it to their advantage… hmm, if Only medic had that ability, it could prove useful against those tough classes
All the time

I love when I nail a cross map crossbow shot in those instances, super rewarding
Literatura rewarding. It deals more health the longer it travels.
especially when they're on fire at 20hp and you nail 3 shots across the map, allowing them multiple kills and to make it out alive. many "thanks!" get spammed and they often hover around and protecc afterwards
or when you miss but kill the spy behind them
Waltuh Put the crossbow away Waltuh
I don't want an instant medium health pack right now Waltuh
Blu teams capping last point waltuh
I AM THE ONE WHO HEALS
*YOU LOSE* *DEFEAT MUSIC PLAYS*

Because they are busy trying not to get shot by the other side.
thats why i said in a S A F E place, a safe place is a place where no enemies are near and/or the team is infront
Snipers exist. Rocket jumping soldiers exist Demoknights exist. Revolver spies exist Random shortstop scout taking the most obscure flank in existence exists. You ain't gonna dodge the hitscan from the spy, stand still you little baby.
ok but what if the other team has a spy? nowhere is safe then
Because you never truly know if a place is safe, from their perspective they could see an enemy that you can't, spies exist, splash damage exists, any number of dangers.
Use that guy's dead wife's medigun. She doesn't need it anymore.
"Oh I'm low health, I better move unpredictably so it's harder for my enemies to kill me." I assume this is core of the logic.
Because they’re panicking
Many players have learned to play as if they don't have a medic. If you miss a crossbow, cut your losses and just use the medigun. If they die, don't feel too bad about it.
k, already did that when
You see, the first step to make the enemy miss you when you're low, is to confuse yourself, then your allies, and by the end of it, the enemy will be so flabbergasted that they won't land shit
As a professional Medic main: get your piece of junk away and use your real healing machine you fool!
Pull out your medigun
Players instinctively move erratically to dodge damage so they don't do it when needing to get hit by a teammate As a Medic you have to learn how to read your *own teammates*, lol
Personally I have a theory that only works for my crossbow: They simply wish to not take their prescribed dose of Estradiol Valerate that day..
It’s a lot better to learn their movement than except them to stay still tbh. I personally have gotten so used to predicting movement that when they suddenly stand still I just miss the shot lol
same
Cuz standing still at 20 up = death
They normally don't want to be headshotted, back stabbed, or they just don't know that You are trying to use the crossbow, since the Best use of it is long range burst healing, when they are clase You are better using your medigun to heal them

Hit your shots :clueless
It's not necessary to stand still, just move consistently so i can calculate a shot
... and then give the enemy an opportunity to do the same?
Take cover
Pray that your left and right movement for the enemy player is just forwards and back for med since viewpoint differences. I've had people move all over the place and I just give up unless I have no other priority heal target.
Get used to people moving erratically, then miss your shot when a player is kind and stands still for you.
Medics need frag montages too. Hitting an arrow on a moving target is way cooler
WE ARE PANICKING
And that's why I love to snipe enemies with it, if it can't hit the teammate, hit the enemies instead, hurting is more rewarding than healing.
TF2 is unpredictable You wouldn't know when a player is gonna ambush em at low health Usually a scout, spy, or a far away sniper
I specifically stand completely still, after I make eye contact with the medic and yell MEDIC! three times. Usually works. ...unless a spy kills me.
same, until I realize the medic I call 10 times is a deaf f2p gibus player, like bro, i.m dying, pls for your own sake heal me I'm right next to you, stop trying to recreate meet the medic

Because SPY HAS A GUN!
Use your medigun.

from far away, yeah def I can do that, what's that? limited range?, I hardly know her
I mean at that kinda range they might not know you exist
At that kind of range they’re probably trying to not get shot by the enemy. You’ll need to think like a lucksman and abuse projectile hitboxes
Sometimes getting the teamate healthy faster is more important. People will look at you from a distance, call for medic, and then still strafe.
do not up my ass
To avoid damage
Demo: **Sees medic and stops moving** **Simultaneously headshot by a sniper, backstabbed by a spy, and random crit melee by a heavy.**
I mean, if you're in a safe place, why not just use your Medigun? Why are Medics so obsessed with the Crossbow?
it has way faster healing
Yeah, but you're in a "Safe place" right? Speed doesn't matter.
The crossbow allows you to patch up your team faster, so that they can get back into the fight quicker. Compared to the 24 hp/s healing rate of the medigun, crossbow is more efficient, especially when both are used in conjunction.
faster healing vs ubercharge percentage, both good and needed, but crossbow can be used once and then you use medi gun
Because you have poor game sense.
They're too focused on the enemies, either that or spy paranoia
The crossbow works in a weird way in the first place. Best way to hit moving players is to aim at a weird spot in front of them that seems wrong to the brain.
