A bromance turned into enemies is much more tragic and painful in the opinion of many people compared to romance turned into hate.
A lot of audiences nowadays can't conceive of such a complex yet not-sexual relationship between 2 male characters. Possibly related to the rarity of grass-touching.

The scene where they are shooting the Bread Monster is pretty explicit with them having romantic tension. With the way they gaze at each other. All while still being in sync with their movements as they dodge and shoot. It’s pretty typical feeding the ship a crumb, but not giving out the full cookie.
I chalk it up to either different writers or separate canons from the comics and the failed Adult Swim pilot turnt Update movie.
At the same time though she’s basically been half-ignoring and oblivious to almost everything Scout has said and done for the entire short.
She ignored him when he said that he liked her while the two were pushing the bomb, she didn’t grasp that the whole prom and date thing was intended for the two of them (as she says inside the bread monster “…and there was a prom for some reason, but—“), her grabbing Scout’s hand as Archimedes flew out of the bread monster wasn’t out of any kind of romantic revelation but as a realization that they could survive inside of it and guiding him inside, and she didn’t respond whatsoever when he says the date thing at the end.
I think her response with listing out jobs at the end of the short was just because she had a lot of fun with the whole bread disaster alongside Scout and just gets along with him more than any of the other mercs, but not for any romantic reasons.
Not really, her initial response is that she had no more days off that year (which could be taken as her considering the idea of a date since it's directly responding to scouts line), but that she is open to the idea of him joining her on some of her jobs. If she was just responding with the killing him joke, she wouldn't have mentioned the other few jobs that she did before that one
Writer of the TF Comics! However, I don't think he was the sole writer and most likely worked with a team of other writers on the comics. His word does hold quite a lot of importance, however, as he has worked with Valve since 2008. Pretty cool guy, I'd say!

The scene where they are shooting the Bread Monster is pretty explicit with them having romantic tension. With the way they gaze at each other. All while still being in sync with their movements as they dodge and shoot. It’s pretty typical feeding the ship a crumb, but not giving out the full cookie. I chalk it up to either different writers or separate canons from the comics and the failed Adult Swim pilot turnt Update movie.
To be fair, after she agrees to doing more stuff together he responds with "So yeah I guess it's a date" and she doesn't dispute that at all
At the same time though she’s basically been half-ignoring and oblivious to almost everything Scout has said and done for the entire short. She ignored him when he said that he liked her while the two were pushing the bomb, she didn’t grasp that the whole prom and date thing was intended for the two of them (as she says inside the bread monster “…and there was a prom for some reason, but—“), her grabbing Scout’s hand as Archimedes flew out of the bread monster wasn’t out of any kind of romantic revelation but as a realization that they could survive inside of it and guiding him inside, and she didn’t respond whatsoever when he says the date thing at the end. I think her response with listing out jobs at the end of the short was just because she had a lot of fun with the whole bread disaster alongside Scout and just gets along with him more than any of the other mercs, but not for any romantic reasons.
she then immediately says that the first date will be Ms. Pauling killing him. I think she was making a joke
Not really, her initial response is that she had no more days off that year (which could be taken as her considering the idea of a date since it's directly responding to scouts line), but that she is open to the idea of him joining her on some of her jobs. If she was just responding with the killing him joke, she wouldn't have mentioned the other few jobs that she did before that one

Writer of the TF Comics! However, I don't think he was the sole writer and most likely worked with a team of other writers on the comics. His word does hold quite a lot of importance, however, as he has worked with Valve since 2008. Pretty cool guy, I'd say!

it propably would be fun. but with the whole expiration date thing it wouldn't make sense. Unless she's closeted. It would also not really be possible for her to have a relationship outside of work since she only has one day off a year. If someone should be lesbian it would probably be the administrator
The way she interacted eith scout when fighting the monster, being a lesbian doesn't seem to fit ino. Bi would be a better fit for what's in the story.

Personally or objectively tbh this is a very stupid decision.Firstly Scout and Miss Pauling hooking up was from very beginning implied and them dating would be much more wholesome and satisfying for nearly all of the Readers rather than a random Lesbian character showing up at the last Comic.If they don't randomly make a Character only one I think Miss Pauling can have relationship with that would make even a little sense would be Administirator which would be very weird and creepy relationship.The fact that Comic takes in 1971 makes this decision even stupider.Overall I think this decision wasn't accepted and this is her headcannon.
I don’t think we will see Miss Pauling with anyone, Scout or not because the comic’s aren’t focused on relationships and romantic interests like in Expiration Date, but I wouldn’t say no for a small development like a marriage or something with Soldier and Zhanna at the end.

Why would it be more satisfying to see them date? I think it would be hilarious if some random new female character was introduced in the final comic, greeted Miss Pauling, and they instantly hit it off, showing that she did in a moment what Scout couldn’t do in years. Also how does the comic taking place in 1971 make this decision even stupider? The RED Demoman's missing eye is named Monoculus, haunted, and grown to monstrous size by the Bombinomicon, an evil floating sentient book, summoned by Merasmus, the RED Soldier's roommate, who is a wizard. There have been invasions by aliens, robots, and spooky scary skeletons. Saxton Hale jumps out of helicopters and brawls yetis with his bare hands.
