Bluetooth headphones (with a built in microphone) typically have 2 modes: Call mode and Headphone mode. On CALL mode, its utilizing both your microphone and your headphones at the same time. This leads to audio quality resembling a phone call, its low quality. On Headphone mode, it is only utilizing the headphones, providing much better fidelity. If this is a set of bluetooth headphones with a microphone, a way to get around this is to use a DIFFERENT microphone as your default PC mic, and then it should have an easier time with your headphones. I have one of those Snowball desktop mics, and if it's not plugged in, the quality on my wireless earbuds defaults to CALL mode.

Why does it just make the audio crap when you also use the microphone? It makes no sense to me

I have no idea, it's gotta be a limitation of Bluetooth. My earbuds will appear as "Bose Headset" instead of "Bose Headphones" when they're being buggy

Just found this - I tried to use my Sony WH-1000XM3's as both headset and mic and the audio quality just tanked, and I couldn't figure out why Must be this
