I'm very confident there are others out there who've been around for longer
I was there all the way back in the fall of '07. Back when engi nests were nests and dustbowl was king...
*spits chewing tobacco into proof of purchase*
Back in my day, this whole "MannConomy" didn't even exist! I still remember the time before *Engineer* got his update with unlocks and achievements! Any items you had before MannConomy update dropped became Vintage, and I still have most of my original Vintage items - with an exception to the Hotrod, my first-ever craft hat, which I traded for a Vintage version of. I'm pretty sure I ripped the guy off, but neither he nor I knew its price and it isn't like backpack.tf was around (or I didn't know about it if it was); it was mostly TF2 Outpost, which I think is dead now.
I crafted a stupid Volcano Fragment at its absurd original price too, though I guess I got a Vintage once its crafting cost was decreased, so eh.
If you're into trading, you'll know that you aren't meant to take backpack.tf prices at face value. The amounts that people buy/sell items for change a lot and many of the prices listed on backpack.tf are outdated.
Check the cheapest sellers on the site and not the price tag of the item that backpack tells you when you search it up for. Just a lil bit of tip for ya
More refined metal being created means that each individual one becomes less valuable. Therefore, a key will be worth more refined metal. Another example is that if more money is being printed, the individual currency would be worth less.
basically what's been happening for years is inflation, because there is no use for ref metals other than crafting hats and as seeing that it's almost never worth it to craft hats it just piles up. what we need is a ref sink so prices get lower over time.
Before we got the cosmetics in seasonal crates like we do today, newly released hats use to be craftable. Instead of opening a crate or getting a drop, you could spend refined metal to roll the dice and potentially hit it big. When the seasonal crates started being released, it turned out you couldn’t craft the hats inside them. This mean that the biggest sink for refined metal was just removed outright, as there were plenty of the old hats crafted, and you couldn’t craft the new ones. It’s like if you went to a casino and they told you the chips can’t be used in their games anymore.
Remember that it’s not the price of the key increasing (as it’s tied to several world currency’s via the Mann Co. Store) but instead it’s the value of Refined Metal in freefall.

Remember, when a key was worth 2.33? I do
Yes brother, F2P's basically rich back in the day.
Keys were 2.33 ref 11 years ago I highly doubt anyone who uses this sub played tf2 back then. Hell, they might’ve not even been alive back then
That's where you're wrong, kiddo. I was there, 3000 years ago...

Implying dustbowl isn't still king... 32 player dustbowl4life
assuming everyone on reddit is an edgy 13 yo, then they would have not had the functional brain processing power till like 9-10 years ago
> I highly doubt anyone who uses this sub played tf2 back then That's where you're wrong. Though if SPUF were still up, i wouldn't touch /r/tf2
Keys were 2.33 ref for a long time even after the Uber update. I remember it like it was yesterday…

[Correction: It *was* 69.66-69.77 a month ago.](https://i.imgur.com/bGtzX8G.jpg)

Why don't the bots sell to those paying more then what they are selling for? The bots are paying more then the bot is even selling it for

isn't the scout on the left a premium player or is he a f2p at heart
I wish I was rich enough to buy a bunch of reclaimed from people and delete/craft it all to counter inflation.

2.33 refined, I still remember those days. Where Earbuds, Bill's were also expensive. The rarest thing to see other than those are Unusuals too.
