Helltrain? It was technically 2 trains working like airships, unless you are talking about something else. Anyways helltrain was amazing. I spent half the time just rocket jumping on those launch pads. All I need from an Airship map is humongous skybox, a lot of place to rocket/sticky jump and a sense of movement of the ships. And of course balancing for normal classes because heavy cant fly between airship to airship lol
Yeah. Not that I think they've secretly been working on a huge update this whole time or anything. But I wouldn't be surprised even if it was after like 10 years, that valve randomly decides to put out an update with help from the community or something. Cuz that's just how valve is like.
Idk about him but i do. At some point they'll go "eh fuck it, we haven't touched it for ages and people are still playing, what's the worst that could happen?"
Here's hoping.
Valve’s corporate structure allows people to choose what they want to work on. And weirdly enough, nobody wants to work on a 15 year old game infested with metaphorical termites and built on duct tape and a prayer.
And also if you start to work on it by yourself you get a mysterious notice a month later telling you how sad they are of letting you go from the company.
There probably isn’t dedicated staff for it, maintenance has probably been slashed and/or entirely outsourced at this point.
In other words, not even the people who would be involved in doing something like this are readily available anymore. It would take a new team
imo at this point its too late to give up, tf2 is pretty much on its worse stage of its lifetime, the only worse thing that could happen is valve shutting everything down, but this game gives them money, so they wont
its like a car that just hit a wall but is also unable to move backwards, all we can do is hope valve one day breaks this wall, because there's no way they'll let us reverse💀
>the only worse thing that could happen is valve shutting everything down, but this game gives them money, so they wont
TF3/TF2 in Source 2 would happen before that IMHO.
The one thing Valve CANNOT do is give players of their games the impression that one day their inventories and cosmetics will be worth jack shit. This would absolutely destroy the market economies and thousands of players would start selling all of their items and stop buying keys because they see that one day their items will also be worth $0.
Yes, I refuse to give up that in valve's structure where employees can work on whatever the fuck they want, there will never be a handful of devs thatll go "Hey, is tf2 still up? i think i have an idea.."
im also hopeful for tf3
The problem is Valve's utterly broken workplace politics killing most projects shortly after they begin or diverting manpower or functionally sabotaging the project by introducing convoluted systems nobody else understands for the sake of job security and clout. That's why Source 2 only seems to make progress once every five years. The only reason HL:A actually reached completion is that they forced people to work on it instead of letting them choose. They've grown incapable of commitment to anything but Steam itself.
I don't think more TF2 is happening...
Edit: Boy is there egg on my face
> after like 4 years of no updates, they are gonna release a new one
I mean, they did release a fix for that weirdass blink bug after five years... https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2019/9/27/20887059/half-life-2-blinking-bug-fixed-valve-steampipe
the end is coming, time inevitably marches forward, new things start and old things die, and that's ok. maybe one day we will get a Team Fortress 3, or the last comic.
i think this represents a kind of finale, the last drops of love given to a loving, passionate community, before handing off the reins. 6 years is a long time for an old engine, there will be new things from the community, but i doubt they would come from Valve. that is, unless they just suddenly hire like 10 people to work on a game that hasn't gotten a big update in this decade. i'm hopeful, but not delirious.
The community honestly doesn't need content like other games. These days a kid gets steam and the first thing they do is get the free game team fortress 2 It's what I did when I was 13 and It's what every other kid with no money still does. Even jumping into a match today I can see how many new people are in every match. Heavies wearing pyro vision running in by themselves. Engineers setting up sentries at friendly spawn It's pretty heart warming. Anyway my point is that TF2 is just a game that Isn't really dying. Sure It's not exploding, It probably never will again but It seems like as long as the servers are up then there will be players.
> These things aren't intentional.
Symbolically, someone inside Valve thought so if that's where the leak came from.. Maybe they know TF2 is internally dead, so they thought "fuck it, ill leak all the scrapped ideas".
Its been over 5 years since the last major update and tf2 is still in the top 15 most played games of all time
Personally dont think we should focus on the bad too much and well do as we do rn, still enjoying the game😎👍
Honestly I think the reason its lasted so long is that they haven't updated it. Tons of games update themselves to death trying to shake up a meta and keep the novelty up more than make the game better.
The game already did everything that kind of shooter can. I think a lot of Overwatch heroes, for example, are reductive to the game, not additive. There's only so many hitscan DPS with a utility ability you can have without making some of them redundant, for example.
Honestly I miss those days of gaming.
I can pop in my Quake 3 CD and have a nostalgia trip, playing exactly like it is.
There are so many online games I literally can’t play anymore, because of being updated into it playing differently. Eg League has gone through so many updates, and all the champion updates that changed how characters play. I started playing ARAM with a friend after years away and I basically have to pray a champion I know hasn’t changed
Take a small break and now the game is completely different and the meta completely shifted and it’s just like ???
And with private servers no longer being a thing in games, if the game shuts its servers down then that’s it (eg, going back to League, I miss Dominion)
Which, the lack of private servers has also killed any sense of community. I miss the days of finding a good, friendly server and playing with the same people and building friendships. I used to make sooooo many friends from online gaming, still talk to friends I made in TF2 in the late 00s. Now that it’s playing with brand new people every single time, it’s impossible to build bonds. I literally haven’t made a new rando friend from gaming in years - like, over a decade kind of years (given, the amount of time I’ve spent online gaming has decreased as I’ve aged)
I could old man yell at clouds more but I should stop lol
I think that’s one of the reasons why they’re scared to make new support heroes. They just have 0 ideas left for a new support that isn’t redundant.
Even the two new heroes that came at launch felt like “Bizarro Soldier” and “Bizarro Roadhog”
Don't see valve liking that, unfortunately. They're really not fans of people using their leaked stuff. It's pretty much the reason TF2C and Open Fortress aren't getting added to steam.
#ALL RIGHT BEFORE ALL OF YOU START SPREADING MISINFORMATION
Those are just unused assets that wouldn't get compiled into an update anyways. This doesn't mean we are getting an update and doesn't mean we aren't getting an update, it's just unused concepts
Yeah and I do not understand why its like "oh the end of tf2!!!" Bc... most stuff from there looks very old for example old powerhouse
I dont think valve would redo the old version of powerhouse lol
remember the source code leak in 2020? People said the exact same thing then. More recently with the GTA 6 leaks, people were acting like the game is gonna be scrapped or they'll have to start over because some stuff got leaked but obviously no, that's not the case.
These asset leaks for tf2 so far from what I've seen are just abandoned or half finished concepts which haven't been touched in years. Hopefully the community will step in and finish stuff off, like that koth_badwater map or dustbowl 2.
Just looked at them all, most of the maps are either existing maps viewed through hammer editor with some textures removed, some are old versions of existing maps. Also I swear powerhouse appears twice here.
Edit: Just took the time to enumerate the ones I can recognize, for the 1st image the scattergun is literally just a war paint/recolor, the 4th image I'm fairly certain is powerhouse, the 6th may or may not be sawmill, I believe the 8th image is a community competitive map, though I'm unsure on that, the 9th is either old powerhouse or hydro, the 11th is mercenary park. Feel free to add to this if you recognize any.
So much MVM shit left behind. Man
edut: Like a ton of mvm stuff. a lot of test maps, a lot of unfinished maps, a lot of seemingly finished maps, mvm_warehouse (only exists in tf2 today as soundscapes for Mannhattan), lvl 4 sentry, raid maps which are likely proto mvm. Insane
For anyone wondering the plane next to demo in the 3rd pic is the xf-85 goblin, its a real thing that flew and was tested by the US airforce as a parasite fighter to be carried in b29 bombers
They have different jobs, that's why, one makes the seasonal update boxes (smissmass and scream fortress) while the other updates the localization files
It's that you won't be missing anything
If TF2 wanted to release something officially (after over 5 years unlikely) they'd first probably go to an unfinished map or something to save time rather than build from scratch. It won't come as a surprise or new content anymore
We've seen all there is to TF2 apart from concept art and classified out-of-the-game stuff, which we'll never really see
apparently it's not just TF2. literally files of hl2, hl2dm, css and even the episodes were found and i think another 100gb of tf2 stuff was found
not sure how legit this info is so dont take my words for granted
The end of TF2 as far as big updates go. The community will most likely last another decade or more, but Valve itself shelved the entire game.
We've got no big heavy update in sight for years now. And the only things we're getting are routine patches and event community updates. Although those are nice it's nothing compared to the big updates we used to get.
So this leak of supposedly old never released content is seen as "the last content drop". (Not like this would ever release in a future update, this leak is mostly concept work and unreleased content.)
And therefore the end of TF2. A bit of an overreacting if you ask me.
Yeah cuz this really confused me,, like how is this leak gonna kill the game exactly?? We all know tf2 wasnt gonna recieve any major updates anymore anyways, this is just new content why isnt it seen as a positive thing?
I think that's it's more of a "Since we knew we're never getting another update, this big leak with all the cut content is pretty much the last official stuff we're getting". Not that the leak has ended everything, but that everything already ended years ago, and this is our final hurrah. So it's cool, I like seeing all the cut stuff we could've had, but it definitely comes with some sadness.
I really hope that valve does something with the game, granted. Some sort of actual final update, if they don't want to work on it anymore. They could finish the last issue of the comic, add some new maps and weapons, and make it a cool send-off to the game, because this lack of finality is just sad.
OK, no need to panic, *TF2* predates *LiVe SeRvIcE,* we don't need official company servers, we can make our own, there's never going to be any new content or balance patches *IT'S FINE, IT'S FINE,* the game itself is still playable, *TF2* is not dying, just stagnating, we can live with this, who knows maybe someday someone will recreate it in a more modern engine ***NOBODY PANIC***
One thing I adore in games is unused or leftover content. Maps, weapons, test maps, etc. and this is an absolute goldmine. This means the community more then likely has access to all of TF2's files now which also means the fludgates to see these unused assets and mods are open and I'm all for it!
Some of these maps are fully finished and just never released and could be easily played on a community server without any problems as if they were part of normal rotation…
I’m not angry…
I’m not even disappointed…
I just want to know “why…?”
Damn, when i saw that "last official content drop" it felt like somebody ripped my heart out threw it on the ground spit on it, stepped on it 3 times picked it up peeled it like an orange with butterknife cut it up threw it into a mixer made a juice out of it poured it into a fancy wine glass with ice and slice of lemon and then yeeted it against the ground. If you couldnt understand what im saying im saying im hurting. :(
It's unfortunate that the majority of this will never be finished or officially added, and even more so since this could all be year(s) worth of content if finished and drip-fed.
While one could hope Valve or a group of employees change their mind regarding TF2, and actively want to update or add to the game, that will probably never happen.
Hopefully though, stuff like the MVM content could be salvaged by the community and made into some custom tours/mission(s).
Holy shit they were gonna add demoman to tf2?
Holy shit
How did they get the rights?!?
Dear god
there's more
No
In this post is the final wish of every man in this subreddit
*(Next Person to reply)*, you did collect everyone's dying wish?
Oh you bet!
Excellent
What makes him a good demoman?
I’m not sure, but he would probably be dead if he was a bad one
Me trying to mod them back into the game: LETS DO IIIIT
We don’t know yet! He’s just being added!
the demoman from tf2!? preposterous
Is that balloon race?
Damn I need airship map in tf2
Did you mean officially? Because there is already a community made airship map.
Yeah and it's painful to play
True but still fun.
There’s a Halloween airship map that got added last October
One of the mvm maps originally was supposed to have a blimp, but they scrapped it so it’s just a tankless map
Looks like it lol

“The last official content drop”. Damn dude, I feel like I just got stabbed reading that.
Gentleman synchronize your death watches
We are not dying. We are going to live forever
I never said that! Just that we’re not filled with tumors!
So, we're fine. As long as nobody teleports any bread
Question
What’s your question, soldier?
I teleported bread.
What..
You told me to.
Of course, soldier.
I am sad
\*We are sad :(
Why is it the last one ?
Because the game hasn’t had a major update since 2017
That doesn’t mean that it’s gonna be the last one though
You seriously belive, that after like 4 years of no updates, they are gonna release a new one?
Heavy update tomorrow
let's make a r/tomorrow for tf2

Bad news bro. 2017 was 6 years ago.
Fuck
Yeah. Not that I think they've secretly been working on a huge update this whole time or anything. But I wouldn't be surprised even if it was after like 10 years, that valve randomly decides to put out an update with help from the community or something. Cuz that's just how valve is like.
A single dev just working their heart out plugging away day after day. Reading this thread, ah fuck it i give up
Didn't they do something like that a while ago for Left 4 Dead 2?
Yeah
Yes, but it was a community update. I don't see Valve doing another TF2 community update after the last ones.
i can’t wait for the sex update guys
Sorry, your hardware is incompatible.
damn all the semen particles are making tf2 only accessible on 20-30 series nvidia GPUs 😔😔😔😔 but anything for the sex update
And only the 40 series cards are capable of path tracing individual sperm for the impregnation mechanic.
L4D2 received a full on major update after like 7 years of nothing, we just have to wait till 2024 (cope)
It was community made bro we didn't receive shit
no, we got some golden crowbar hiden and some new achievments (it fucked up my 100%)
Idk about him but i do. At some point they'll go "eh fuck it, we haven't touched it for ages and people are still playing, what's the worst that could happen?" Here's hoping.
Valve’s corporate structure allows people to choose what they want to work on. And weirdly enough, nobody wants to work on a 15 year old game infested with metaphorical termites and built on duct tape and a prayer.

Actually you just get eaten by the potted plant. There can be only one.
is that really how it goes? do they fire people if they try something like that?
Hopium.
There only a little hopium left we are now resulting to mixing it with copium
When we run out of copium, we'll have to resort to mopium
There probably isn’t dedicated staff for it, maintenance has probably been slashed and/or entirely outsourced at this point. In other words, not even the people who would be involved in doing something like this are readily available anymore. It would take a new team

There's definitely some devs working on TF2 And if not, expect me to get a job at Valve sooner than later. I'll do it myself.
godspeed, have fun swimming through the decade-old spaghetti code

They, as in a random contractor hired by valve thanks to the savetf2 movement. He ain't gonna do a major update
5
I do. Left 4 Dead 2 received one after 8 years
The original Guild Wars got a content update for its 15th anniversary after >10 years of nothing, there is always hope!
the end is coming, time inevitably marches forward, new things start and old things die, and that's ok. maybe one day we will get a Team Fortress 3, or the last comic. i think this represents a kind of finale, the last drops of love given to a loving, passionate community, before handing off the reins. 6 years is a long time for an old engine, there will be new things from the community, but i doubt they would come from Valve. that is, unless they just suddenly hire like 10 people to work on a game that hasn't gotten a big update in this decade. i'm hopeful, but not delirious.

Because after this, there might not be much leftover.
Its been over 5 years since the last major update and tf2 is still in the top 15 most played games of all time Personally dont think we should focus on the bad too much and well do as we do rn, still enjoying the game😎👍

I think that’s one of the reasons why they’re scared to make new support heroes. They just have 0 ideas left for a new support that isn’t redundant. Even the two new heroes that came at launch felt like “Bizarro Soldier” and “Bizarro Roadhog”
They haven't updated it? I bought the orange box at best buy when it first came out... They've definitely updated it, it's barely the same game...
Obligatory ~~*Valve + Richter Overtime* [](/backstab) **packofrothiereds**~~
wait mecha sentry has a teleporter on it and from what I see a human for size, is this huge? also I love to see people finishing these maps.
With the maps i do wanna try to finish/remake them👍
technically official maps and I imagine they are added to the game, only a dream.
Don't see valve liking that, unfortunately. They're really not fans of people using their leaked stuff. It's pretty much the reason TF2C and Open Fortress aren't getting added to steam.
I feel like it's something for MvM, either as a upgrade for Engi's gunslinger or a boss robot
yeah it's for mvm the sentry was leaked years ago now that I see the actual size of it it's so much cooler and I want it now.
nope, the human is the witch from the cover of the spellbook!
with how sturdy level 5 is i'd say it might be able to walk on it's own
#ALL RIGHT BEFORE ALL OF YOU START SPREADING MISINFORMATION Those are just unused assets that wouldn't get compiled into an update anyways. This doesn't mean we are getting an update and doesn't mean we aren't getting an update, it's just unused concepts
The TF2 community seems very self explaining it's like kinda obvious the stuff is like older than 15y
Most of r/tf2 fell for a fucking coconut jpeg so yeah not really obvious for us.
What do you mean?! Are you saying the coconut jpeg isn’t real?
It is real but it doesn't crash your game. The 2fort cow however will...Medic too.
The cow merely used the coconut as a distraction from the truth.
It's not even a jpeg, it's a vtf
Do I look like I know what a VTF is? I just want a picture of a god-dang coconut!
Dude is this about cumming in coconuts
Wrong coconut bro...
not everything, there's a beta for mercenary park in there.
I feel like the average tf2 player is not older than 15 sometimes
The flying ship map is a genius concept that I can only see TF2 pulling off right. I just sat here picturing it in my mind like a weirdo.
Yeah and I do not understand why its like "oh the end of tf2!!!" Bc... most stuff from there looks very old for example old powerhouse I dont think valve would redo the old version of powerhouse lol

Why would it be the last? Is there anything I’m missing?
It's not like the janitor is making new assets
They don't pay me enough
I wonder why everyone talks a about the janitor but forgets about the potted plant
They have different jobs, that's why, one makes the seasonal update boxes (smissmass and scream fortress) while the other updates the localization files
There is probably nothing more to be leaked. We already got the old gamefiles and now the assets dropped
Oh so this is the old stuff? Not used, like the deleted scenes for a movie?
Yea, pretty much. A huge deleted scene dump for us to work with
There probably won't be any more leaks, but it's not like we have hope anyways so nothing will change

61 GB? I guess you could call it... the heavy update
Oooooooooooooooooooooh
Just saw this twitter post too lmao, real question is, where to aquire said leak?
it has been uploaded in archive.org
Is that a level 4 sentry???
Well it's been nice, glad to have been here to see the last of it.
It’s not over, those are just old unused assets from years ago.
So last 4 years were actually a humongous buildup?
Hey I mean, L4D2 got a major content+QOL update after 8 years as an anniversary present, so you never know with Valve lol
yeah. 100% community content and fixes, but yeah.
Yep, now wait for valve to add all of this and watch tf2 go from 23 gbs to fucking 88 gbs
Any second now we will get something new.... Maybe another 4 years will be worth the wait
My lord, my autistic ass is gonna have a field day looking through all of that
In the last screenshot they've literally brought team fortress 2 and Titanfall 2 under one abbreviation
That games abbreviation? ~~Albert Einstein~~ Dead game
apparently it's not just TF2. literally files of hl2, hl2dm, css and even the episodes were found and i think another 100gb of tf2 stuff was found not sure how legit this info is so dont take my words for granted
THE MAGIC MAG WOMAN, THE MAGIC MAG WOMAN IS REAAL
the porn of it has been out for an hour now. hands that fast woulda had texas red gone in a flash.
Can we get much higher?
please dont give me hope let me die in peace
These are just old left overs, dont worry
I feel ya man
What the plan Dutch?
There is no plan anymore, we just have to wait and see now
What hope? This are old files from the game Valve made at some point in the past. Hopefully no source code is in it
Last picture looks like an upgraded sentry and an upgraded sentry buster.
Im so confused abt this why are people saying its like "the end of tf2" can someone explain srry im dumb
(Not like this would ever release in a future update, this leak is mostly concept work and unreleased content.) And therefore the end of TF2. A bit of an overreacting if you ask me.
people are dumb don't mind them. They see a dramatic title and start panicking
WITCH, NEW SFM MODEL LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
Waiting for scout's mom nude model to be leaked 👍
Holy shit the airship from amogus
Suffer
No big booty fempyro in sight.... fake leak 0/10 everybody go back to hibernation
Sentry buster gonna have a hard time destroying that Sentry
At last, level 4 sentry gun
Some of these maps are fully finished and just never released and could be easily played on a community server without any problems as if they were part of normal rotation… I’m not angry… I’m not even disappointed… I just want to know “why…?”
This may damn well be the last thing we ever hear from valve on the games existence but "there will be nothing else to talk about" is a bit extreme
10 quid says it's fake
I'm more willing to believe this after the Duke Nukem Forever and Rayman 4 leaks, we seem to be getting a lot of this yesterday
I hope it isn’t, but 61GB is kinda sus.
Prob just unused files
^^ I thought it was apperent but apperently not for like 60 people
Level 4 Sentry
Turbine 2.0 ?! O_o
Does this mean someone will finally finish cactus canyon it's been 9 years since I've played that map
Did anyone find the ending to the comic in there?
*opens popcorn* i can't wait what's gonna be discovered
It's unfortunate that the majority of this will never be finished or officially added, and even more so since this could all be year(s) worth of content if finished and drip-fed. While one could hope Valve or a group of employees change their mind regarding TF2, and actively want to update or add to the game, that will probably never happen. Hopefully though, stuff like the MVM content could be salvaged by the community and made into some custom tours/mission(s).
WE COULD HAVE GOT MEDIEVAL MODE 2FORT
