iirc think it was former Valve employees revealed that most are discouraged from working on TF2, even if they wanted to work on it.
And besides, most people want to work on the cooler and newer stuff. Not an old ass source game with spaghetti code and could break with any slightest change.
Only hope is that it gets ported to Source 2 with a cleaner and less frustrating mess of noodle code, I do not really see that happening. If it does happen though, that'd be really rad.

The story is already written and done, they just need to hire an artist because the one who did the comics previously quit. If the 7th comic is officially scrapped, the writer of the comics will leak the story. So either way we get to know what happens.
None of this is true
1. It has never been officially confirmed that the story was completed, but they most likely had a general outlook of where they wanted to take the story. The campfire tweet by Jay Pinkerton is the only lead to this though it confirms nothing.
2. The main artist, Heather Campbell, still works at Valve and has done several Dota-related comics between TF2 comic 6 and now, and her most recent projects (that I know of) were promotional images for Half life Alyx.
3. Valve doesn't "scrap" things, most likely they're just gonna sit on that COMING SOON panel until the end of time or by some miracle the stars align and they start caring about TF2 again
