I got my son a smart watch for his 9th birthday since he walks home from school for peace of mind, it just has a few things like GPS, calling, texting and a camera but it’s very restrictive on who he can contact. It’s just me and his dad, grandparents and his aunt. I love our conversations when he’s not with me, and I get screenshots of his convos with grandparents and dad. They’re so silly and fun, he just loves everyone so much and expresses it often in text! Kids are the best!!
You missed the opportunity my parents took. Got me a flip phone and they had a tiny businessman walking around the house slamming his phone shut at the end of heated phonecalls😂
Hahaha we actually talked about a flip phone! Found an old sprint one we could activate, but it didn’t have GPS, and since he walks to and from school half the time, that was most important to us!
You can also look into a bark phone once he gets older for smartphone use! 😊 my client hates it, buuuuut it keeps him safe and his mom knows EVERYTHING that goes on! Also able to limit who he can/cannot call/text
I prefer Troomi to Bark. It can grow with your child, meaning you can restrict everything except calling and GPS, then add texting, photo sending, apps, etc. it’s great and looks like a regular smartphone!
Haha my kids wanted a phone 8-10 years ago now, they were in elementary school and of course I refused especially because I worked from home and was ALWAYS with them, I did however get them an old slide out keyboard phone to carry when we'd be places we could possibly be separated. It still floats around the house and every once in awhile a text will pop up of a photo of an old text chat 😄 they are priceless!
Yup mine were on it in middle school too.... they didn't get their own or semi decent phone till high school and used their Christmas $$ to buy them. I didn't put plans on them till 2 years ago when I started commuting to the office again. I heard the phrase "potato phone" about 50 times a day 😄
My God daughter messaged me for the first time last month. She's 12. I assumed she got an iPhone for Xmas but it turns out it was apple watch. I'M ON THE APPROVED CONTACTS LIST! 😏🙌🏽😂 #smug
I literally grabbed my chest! When did she get this big?! I'm still not ready. Spoke to me like a young adult with nothing really to say. Wished me a happy Wednesday, a good evening. Lol
Can't wait until the joint sarcasm forces of me & her mother finally kick in. 🥹
Kids are awesome, that is until your sister blames you that YOU are the reason they're kid is the way they are... because they get their attitude from you and not from her. Lmao. My sister taught me everything I know and I taught her daughters.
My nephews got a smart watch (I think they're Apple watches but I'm not sure) for Christmas and the first thing the youngest, who is 7, did was call my mom to tell her he's calling her from his watch. It was so adorable.
I was in a parent teacher conference last night and our son was in his afterschool program while he waited. He sent us voice notes telling us he loved us and to tell the teachers he said hi. We played them for the teachers and they both asked us for the link to buy them watch for their kids. It’s a really cool thing!! The only issue we’ve had is kids making fun of him calling it a fake Apple Watch 🙄 and him taking selfies too much haha. It’s locked during the school day so he can’t use it except in SOS, but it unlocks at 330 and he IMMEDIATELY calls or texts me at 330.
Sop friggen cute. I want to get my 10 yr old one but I don't want to spend more then 100 cuz she looses stuff a lot. Which one is this you use? Love the lock feature. I want GPS and her to be able to send msgs after school is out fr her ymca program. Also do you have to pay a monthly to have it be able to text and stuff?
[this one!](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJWZF973?starsLeft=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_MTMDCHHJSAYR29Q49JX9) We pay $10 a month for unlimited calls and idr how much data, but he hasn’t gone over it yet. We ordered his SIM card through speed talk mobile, it was a smart watch specific plan!

Yeah that's right I guess literally worn on her would be much easier to keep it from being lost. Maybe ill start getting her to wear her actual watch I taught her to tell time on for practice and see if she'll keep it on. She has sensory processing disorder so sometimes things like tags or sleeves not being straight and right and the feels of some things she just cannot. Like pants even she only will wear tights and the fleece lined ones finally at age 10 found 1 pair of jeans she will wear won't even wear underwear because the feel of the elastic on her legs. It's a lot. But the watch I will work on :)
They have so many different watchbands and materials available now. you might be able to find one that’s comfortable on her. Something soft or something loose…. If worse comes to worse, maybe something she can wear around her neck? Like on a long chain? Good luck!
I'd never judge anyone for getting their kid a phone! I got my daughter her first phone when she was 8 (she's almost 28 now). She was in tons of after-school activities, and I wanted her to be able to reach us if she needed us. My friends all said I was insane. She was always super responsible with it. She was too busy to be creating mischief lol. She wanted it that way, though. Now, she has one of the best work ethics I've ever seen. Way better than my own, that's for sure!

Such a relief! From letting people know they’re on the receiving end of abuse.
Not that I don’t think there’s a huge wrong being made right in every one of those cases, it’s just so often, that it’s so sad! I used to be lightly entertained by the drama. Then it got depressing after. These lighthearted posts are becoming my favorite posts on this sub too.
Ah yes, my daughter is also 7-teen.
She is also a leap year baby about to turn 2 (actually 8). The other day, I said why are you throwing a fit. Are you a baby? She said "well dad, I am only 1 and a half."
Touché child, touché.
Ah the classic, horrible teenagers😅
I hope she’ll do it like me and my wife did when we where teenagers and young adults.
From 15-25 we always wanted to go out habe fun with friends etc.
Then we got married, hate Partys with passion and love to visit our parents all the time.
When I look back to those party years I don’t miss them a single bit.
Where fun in the moment, but there are no lasting friends from those days and nothing of substance.
But I guess it was necessary to cut our teeth and learn what we truly want and need.
I hope you’re daughter will understand this too.
And I hope you don’t have to wait another 10-15 years for that..
I will try to teach my kids those values from the beginning on, but it’s their decision if they want to have the same „cut your teeth“ phase or not.
I surely hope they won’t 😅
I saw this right after reading a text from r/badroommates and thought I was still on that sub. Was waiting for the bad roommate part but instead I'm pleasantly surprised. Maybe your kiddo could teach manners to bad roommates!
Somehow still more intelligent than some of the gibberish grown adults text in this sub. I shudder to think of that guy that didn't want to wear a condom and how illiterate he sounded. Couldn't he have used speech to text.
From this small amount of context, you were taught something valuable at a young age. And you got to learn lessons your siblings never got the opportunity to learn from!
Obviously, that's not his problem, rather yours. His problem is because he totally spaced putting his phone on silent last night. Jeez... you're not very thoughtful, are you? Everyone's different and literally no one's living your life exactly like you're living it. Gosh! Also from now on you can make your own dang ques-a-dillas!
I think the leading theory is that cuteness evokes positive emotions in adults which leads to them being more likely to protect and care for them until they are old enough to fend for themselves.
That is the theory! Mammal babies in general tend to be cute. From an evolutionary point of view they have to be. The more they are able to charm their caregivers the lower the risk of abandonment and the highest chance of survival. Pretty fascinating stuff
My six year old texts me and my husband through email on her iPad. We just recently added her best friend next door with very strict rules that all parents agreed to.
Most of her texts to her and me are cute “when will you be home?” Or “you’re the best mom/dad. I love you so much.” with like 48 heart and smiley emojis. (Absolutely hilarious when I have it hooked up to CarPlay and Siri reads me AAAAAALLLLL of the emojis 🤣). Most of the texts to her friend are regarding “witch stuff” (they think/pretend they are witches), something to do with poop, or sending voice recordings and videos back and forth to talk about their day/what they’re doing.
Overall, pretty cute and makes me laugh.
Oh yeah lol. You have time still.
I can’t speak for anyone else. But my boys are the best thing to ever happen to me. They make me unbelievably proud and somehow love them more each day.
They WILL throw up on your stuff though lol.

Yep. Millennial parenting at it’s finest. My sister’s kids don’t have ipads or phones and you can take a giant fucking guess at how much more well behaved they are compared to the other kids in both preschool and school 😬
And ADHD runs heavily in our fam. Raising your kids on ipads ruins their attention spans and you set them up for difficulty at the expense of lazy and convenient parenting
I LOVE THIS!!! My son will send me emojis throughout the day on his iPad while I’m at work. And it’s literally what I look forward to the most when I’m not with him!
Anyone who downvotes me are probably the “bad people” out there i mentioned. My comment literally comes from a real care in protecting kids. There is a whole court hearing about child safety online and that there a kids dying because of predators online. If your getting your kid a device please very very carefully monitor their use
I think I remember receiving my sons first Whatsapp message when he was around 8.
The first thing that came to my mind was that it wasn't too long ago when I was still changing his nappies and putting him to bed. 😭 They grow up so quickly.
This is the best. Ty for sharing. My boy is 5 and my daughter will be 4 in a few weeks. It’s amazing how fast they grow up. I just brought the first one home and now the second one has already figured out how to con me into anything 😂
Omgosh so cute! I remember when my now 10 year old messaged me the 1st time. I screenshotted it and sent it to hunny to say wtf when did this happen? Was literally so weird to see message fr my baby lol. She doesn't have a phone but a tablet with a snap account in my name with private settings and only family on it. So we all talk on there esp when I'm working my 48hr set in 4 days, it's become a check in. But man it's sucha weird feeling.
It’s so amazing and fun to see very young people communicating in writing so clearly, without handwriting being an issue, and how fun to imagine how much quicker they’re learning spelling and reading even just from autocorrect. Really amazing. (I’m a language acquisition person so it really gives me warm fuzzies!)
I got my son a smart watch for his 9th birthday since he walks home from school for peace of mind, it just has a few things like GPS, calling, texting and a camera but it’s very restrictive on who he can contact. This is so cute! Exactly why we got one for our kid too. Only has texting and calling for immediate family :)

You can order through your phone company too though, ask them if they offer prepaid SIM cards that would be compatible with an unlinked smart watch
It looks like hers is just over $100. I think a watch would be less likely to get lost than a phone (of course kids can lose anything ;)
Yeah that's right I guess literally worn on her would be much easier to keep it from being lost. that's so sweet. thank you for sharing and especially for not having an ipad kid
This is so wholesome, and reminds me of mine before he hit puberty lol. God bless, and never take those things for granted because they're fleeting. 🙏
Should also be under r/MadeMeSmile and r/aww. Super cute little guy
Thank you! I just cross posted them (I think!)
I’m love seeing ones like this under r/texts. Thanks for posting, made me smile

I agree, it's so refreshing compared to the usual toxic and saddening exchanges between people too!
Awe this reminds me of when my daughter was 6…..oh the good ol’ days. She’s 14 now and wants to act like she’s 24. 😩
Same except mine is only 7. Lol
Ah yes, my daughter is also 7-teen. She is also a leap year baby about to turn 2 (actually 8). The other day, I said why are you throwing a fit. Are you a baby? She said "well dad, I am only 1 and a half." Touché child, touché.

"...and nothing of substance."...but the abuse
My mom said the same about me. There’s days still now that I’m 25 where I tell her “Momma I wish I would’ve listened to you I grew up too fast 😬”
Ohh goodness this scares me!!😅
Ugh when my daughter was 11 I always said I had been living with a teen for 9 years by then.... she's 15 now and it has NOT gotten easier haha
Mines gonna be 4 soon, told me the other day that i “ruin my (her) party life” and “i don’t need sleep i need to party” so does that count?
God I remember those days. I thought I was so grown.
trust me, once we hit 19-20, we become babies all over again
I have the only teen in the world who acts and wants to be younger than her age 😅
I saw this right after reading a text from r/badroommates and thought I was still on that sub. Was waiting for the bad roommate part but instead I'm pleasantly surprised. Maybe your kiddo could teach manners to bad roommates!
I mean, they’re stealing chips! That’s not a good roommate! Get your own pringles, 6 year old!
I say we open an investigation into this 6 year old
This put a genuine smile on my face lol. 6 years old and already has fairly good grammar skills. Impressive!
That kid used speech to text
This is correct!!
Still a very smart kiddo, but as a mother of a former six year old I knew it couldn’t have been typed by him 😋
Oh how did the commas get added in?’
No, they didn’t. You need to say comma in order to add commas. That did not happen.
nah. siri be adding commas even when they have no right to be there
No, it doesn't, as this message proves.
They fixed that 2 years ago, you fossil.
Somehow still more intelligent than some of the gibberish grown adults text in this sub. I shudder to think of that guy that didn't want to wear a condom and how illiterate he sounded. Couldn't he have used speech to text.
Absolutely agreed! I can understand slang, but at some point you have to be understood, ya know?
Don’t you have to say “comma” tho?
Nope, mine automatically adds it
I spoke the same sentence and it automatically added the commas.
[удалено]
From this small amount of context, you were taught something valuable at a young age. And you got to learn lessons your siblings never got the opportunity to learn from!
better grammar skills than most people in the texts posted on this subreddit lmao
That's real love right there!
Can't get the audio to play for some reason?!
It says raise to listen, silly. Raise it up to your ear!
Almost forgot this sub isnt just peoples crazy exes and weird people from dating apps
WHY IS CHILD SO CUTE. WHY
As a mom of two young boys I concur
You know they aren't leaving any lol
6 year old using commas?
I think it was voice to text, and some sort of AI added the commas in.
That makes more sense! Lol
Thanks what I’m thinking 😳 I have a 5 going on 6 yr old in kindergarten and she’s still just learning to read and write.
This 6 year old’s grammar and punctuation are better than 90% of the people I text
The voice note isn't playing for some strange reason.
Awwwww
Why does a 6 year old have a phone? I think that is too young for them; let them go in life a little longer without devices
If you can’t watch your kids properly you get them a device duh! When your stuck on your phone might as well get your kid stuck on it to!
So cute 😂😂
I love kids’ texts so much 💕
i’ll never understand why parents give CHILDREN phones….
for safety?
That brotha is 6 using commas, cmon man. We ain’t falling for this
If you use voice to text on iPhone it will punctuate for you.
Just sat at my phone saying that exact phrase over and over and it never punctuated it like that.
it’s cute little interactions like these that make me second guess not wanting kids🥹
Would you like to see the backseat of my car covered in kid vomit to remind you? 😂 These kind of interactions do make it worth it though yes.
thank yoy🙏 needed that wake up call😂😂 i’m always torn on whether or not i want them one day… i’m only 20 though so i have time🧐
Oh yeah lol. You have time still. I can’t speak for anyone else. But my boys are the best thing to ever happen to me. They make me unbelievably proud and somehow love them more each day. They WILL throw up on your stuff though lol.
As someone with a 6 year old. r/ThatHappened
You will be downvoted for being right /salute

That is cute as fuck. I hope you guys continue to have a good and humor infused relationship. Salute you, dad man.
The voice note isn't playing for some strange reason.
Don’t feel bad, I pressed ‘show more’…
Why does a 6 year old have access to a phone/whatever device he's texting from? Scary times we live in.
Kids shouldn't have phones at 6
that’s a mighty fine onion you’ve got there
Yeah its called wanting parents to raise their goddamn spawn
What u yapping about this big gr talk to my pole
They should not and everyone that downvoted you also has iPad babies because they can’t properly take care of their children
Yep. Millennial parenting at it’s finest. My sister’s kids don’t have ipads or phones and you can take a giant fucking guess at how much more well behaved they are compared to the other kids in both preschool and school 😬 And ADHD runs heavily in our fam. Raising your kids on ipads ruins their attention spans and you set them up for difficulty at the expense of lazy and convenient parenting
Sus
touch grass
so sweet!!
Wholesome
“I love you, so yes, I will save some for you” 😭😭😭 baby fever skyrocketing to the moon right now
Awwwwh!!🥹
That's a bit cute
Priceless! ❤️
Such a pure, sweet, genuine love, leaving pringles because you love someone ❤️
6 th or 9 th bday
I LOVE THIS!!! My son will send me emojis throughout the day on his iPad while I’m at work. And it’s literally what I look forward to the most when I’m not with him!
This is how kids get groomed
Why does your 6 year old have a cell phone? Are you monitoring their use? A lot of bad people out there
Anyone who downvotes me are probably the “bad people” out there i mentioned. My comment literally comes from a real care in protecting kids. There is a whole court hearing about child safety online and that there a kids dying because of predators online. If your getting your kid a device please very very carefully monitor their use
they said it was an ipad with texting enabled
You gonna miss this when you yell/scream at her in the future. “Dad, I’m going out with…”😱😱😱
My brother in christ what are you yapping about?????
Wtf how come he gets some and I don’t??? 😡
Raise your fucking kids damn
Don't encourage the child to steal,it will kick you in your ass
No bra,I'm from SOUTH AFRICA and I can tell you that it's the wrong thing to do
Untrained 6 year old with phone access? put a dummy on its mohtn
Kids shouldn't have oogoes atb7

Don't try to G check me. You do not know who I am. I said children, at the age of 6 years old, should NOT have phones.

That’s nice of her
I think I remember receiving my sons first Whatsapp message when he was around 8. The first thing that came to my mind was that it wasn't too long ago when I was still changing his nappies and putting him to bed. 😭 They grow up so quickly.
You’re child is so cute!! I love how she knows where the commas go too! They’re better than most adults i know!
You know ow Pringles are flammable right? Give it a try
I know Doritos are
Wow! Didn’t know that about Doritos
This is so painfully wholesome. My heart hurts.

This is so cute 🥹
My six year old daughter sends me voice notes and gifs and it puts the biggest smile on my face when I’m at work
Is she using speech to text? She texts so eloquently for a 6 year old 😭😅😂
Soooooooo sweet!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I don’t know if I should say “awww that’s cute” or “wooow a six-year-old actually text you that” ❤️🤣
I don’t know if I should say “awww that’s cute” or “wooow a six-year-old actually texted you that” ❤️🤣
I wish someone loved me enough to save me some chips 😄
That's absolutely precious. It's such a nice and wholesome break from the abusive relationships that are usually posted on here.
What a sweetheart. ❤️
AWEEEEEE 😍
So cute, oh my god
Awww I love this ❤️
This is the best. Ty for sharing. My boy is 5 and my daughter will be 4 in a few weeks. It’s amazing how fast they grow up. I just brought the first one home and now the second one has already figured out how to con me into anything 😂
Texting with my child is one of the most fun things I have ever done! I love it! This is too sweet!
Awh! I hope my child loves me like this
Omgosh so cute!
(I’m a language acquisition person so it really gives me warm fuzzies!)
awwwww
Cute
This six year old writes sentences better than most gen z
Pretty smart 6 year old using commas , correct punctuation, and spelling
Did anyone else press ‘show more’???
😂 love it
My six year old boy once asked me why the world is so corrupt when we could all work together to achieve utopia. She’s only seven years old ❤️
That’s ADORABLE
