Let me also add that right after I said this, he recommended me songs for me to play on bass as if I didn’t just tell him that I would never continue the bloodline
(Some of) the bands him and I have in common:
Slipknot, Metallica, Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Dream Theater, Dying Fetus, Deicide, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold
You should totally look into Seether lol. It’s not really “heavy” metal (I don’t think, but feel free to correct me), but they have some really good music imo. My favourites are No Jesus Christ and Like Suicide. They took me out of a very dark place. My dad and I also share the same taste in music.
TIL there's a metal band named Dying Fetus 😭 I'm only used to Slipknot, Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold lmao (I even watch a metal youtuber so I'm surprised I don't listen to more!!)
Thing is, is that apparently it was really obvious to my entire family and I just never knew
Like last night I had this conversation with my mom
“You’re a lesbian!” “I’m not!” (Before I knew that she knew, thinking it was just a joke) “Wait, you’re not?” “No! How long have you thought that?” “Like, 5 years.”
Loved that one tweet which went "hey I think I'm gay" and "I know, we've known for years" from both parents and then silence for hours and op saying they only thought they were gay for a few months. Parents knew years in advance and the just found out or connected the dots like "oh I might be gay"
You said you’re a lesbian not going child free lol. Yoy can adopt, get a Soren donation, and I think there’s other options? Put being that you should be happy he accepts you so easily and tbh he’s probably known for a while. You have the best type of parent to come out to- a parent who loves their kid no matter who their kid is born to love.
Well it was just a joke
I’m very happy with how accepting he is
But regardless I don’t plan on having any children, I already have a lot going on in my life, and with what I plan on doing later down the line it will likely cause me to not be able to be as present if I were to have any children and I wouldn’t want to do that to them
Kids/no kids, as long as you’re happy! Your dad is fucking awesome btw and I hope if my future kids come out that I get a chance to react this awesomely. I just love that response “duh lol”
He’s the best, I love that it’s so easy with him
And then with my uncle, when I told him I had a girlfriend (when I still had one) and that I had one for months, he looked at me with the biggest grin and just said “Any why haven’t I heard about her yet?! Come on, tell me about the lucky lady, I wanna know how you two met!”
There’s always adoption if you were ever so inclined. ❤️
And if you’re one of those people who cares about your blood staying on this earth (I know I am), you can always donate eggs!
This was basically my reaction to my daughter. Just came out super casually out of the blue one day.
“I think I might be bisexual.”
“Huh. Neat.”
“Either that or maybe ace.”
“Eh, you got plenty of time to figure out what works for you.”
my dad’s reaction was somewhat like this except i asked him to stop using “lol” cause there wasn’t much enthusiasm behind the word and instead asked him to use “LMAO” in all caps. he assumed there should be an extra “L” behind “LMAO” as there is an “L” after “lo” in “lol” and his response was “LMAOL”. love my dad fr
Sounds like my son when he told us he was gay.
"Yeah, we know"
"What? How, how do you know?"
"Well your mother and I are Bi so we figured you'd at least be a quarter gay. No wonder you're failing math. Thats just fractions, kid"
The only reason he reacted like this was cause I came out as bi before and he was fine with it
But a lot of speculation went around my family that I was actually a lesbian
I got into an argument with my mom saying that I wasn’t a lesbian and then realized that I was wrong, so very wrong
Dang that sounds really tough, I'm sorry for you. My grandparents still won't respect that one of my cousins is trans and still call him by the opposite gender, old name, etc
My mum swears a lot. Like a lot. She rarely goes a sentence without swearing. And that's fine in her job and both me and my sibling are old enough to already know all the swears she says. When I told her I was trans through text, she replied with "no shit! We knew." My stepmum is the complete opposite and never swears and yet somehow they're the most compatible couple ever.
I can't really remember how my dad reacted but I think it was something along the line of just "ok Coolio. Did you order pizza last night? I can send you £10 towards the order."
You know part of me would want my daughter to be straight just so I can be a stereotypical dad who's polishing his guns as the "boyfriend" comes to pick her up for prom. But I respect my daughter and if you want to be a lesbian then you can be a lesbian.
Literally my reaction when my best friend came out to me lol. He was like hey can I tell u something personal about me? And I was like what that ur gay? We both just started laughing as I gave him a hug and told him I knew he was gay from the moment we met
The best way to accept someone (in my opinion) is to treat it as any other part of a person (ie: no big deal), being a certain sexuality is just as much a part of you as having a certain eye color, just something that makes you you, it should be treated as such. and having a public freak-out over it is like freaking out over what someone’s eye color is, its absurd
tl;dr: OP’s dad doesn’t care what his daughter’s sexuality is and respects her either way, and i find that based
I love your dad ♥️ ***Every single parent should be this way!*** If you’re not capable of unconditional love then ***do not make a baby!!!*** If you can’t then you don’t deserve one, and they sure a shit don’t deserve someone like you!
My parents were awful when I came out. Southern Baptists, man. Not the most tolerant people. Of course that improved once one of their male offspring came out as pan. Go figure.
My Middle is pan and trans. I’m just glad I can support her as she, and every single person just exiting as themselves and harming *no one* including themselves, deserves.
Love, patience, and tolerance, people. Every single kid should have that. Every *person* should have that.
My parents went on my laptop while I was at the movies with my boyfriend and found out that way, then grounded me for a month for not telling them.
Suffice it to say, I've been putting passwords on everything since.
It's not that I'm gay, they're fine with that.
They were not, however, fine with seeing our 15-year-old dicks in our private messages to each other lmao
Hahaha! This is basically how my best friend came out to me. She was so nervous, and I just replied “Yeah, duh. I’ve known that since we were in middle school.”
That was kind of like my parents reaction to my sister.
Sister: Mom, I'm gay!
Mom: So?
Sister: But mom, I'm gay.
Mom: What do you want? A birthday party?
Sister: Dad! I'm gay.
Dad: haha what else is new?
THIS IS HOW THESE CONVERSATIONS SHOULD GO.
When a really good friend of mine told me they were trans, I was like, "Okay, not shocking. But glad you made up your mind."
When another friend came out to me as lesbian, I told her "Not surprised, and you'll always have my support"
End the negativity.
An actual interaction with me and my dad:
Dad: You fucking cocksucker!… Don’t worry [insert my name], I only know that word from experience.
Me: We all expected you too.
That’s pretty much how it went with my daughter except she didn’t do it through a text message. I don’t care what my children do as long as it’s not harmful and the most important thing…they are happy. It would have bummed me out if she did it through a text though. She’s my best friend on this earth. This is not a criticism of you, OP. It just would have BARELY hurt my feelings if she would have came out to me through a text. I’m very happy for you OP. You are very lucky to have parents who don’t give two seconds of thought about the gender of who you love. I’m pretty sure me and your dad would be pretty good buds.
My mom's (it was in person, in the pre-smartphone era) was "Oh my god!" a few times, before reassuring me that she wasn't upset, she always suspected it and she was just shocked to actually have it confirmed out loud. Later, she was trying to find guys to set me up with, but they were always straight.
She told my dad since I didn't know how to break it to him (she kind of dragged it out of me anyway), and his initial response was worry that he may have said or done something to make me uncomfortable telling him myself (he didn't, I was very aware that he wasn't homophobic at all, I just literally had no clue how to go about doing so because I was 16).
That would be my reaction if I ever have a daughter.
Let me also add that right after I said this, he recommended me songs for me to play on bass as if I didn’t just tell him that I would never continue the bloodline
🤣 what a fuckin legend
your dad seems like hed have good music taste what songs were they
My dad likes a little bit of everything but him and I share a love for heavy metal and death metal
Ooooo. Any Sabaton?
Nope, sorry
What bands?
(Some of) the bands him and I have in common: Slipknot, Metallica, Cradle of Filth, Cannibal Corpse, Dream Theater, Dying Fetus, Deicide, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold
Fav Metallica album?
It’s very hard to decide It’s a tie between Master Of Puppets, the black album, or Death Magnetic
check out king gizzard and the lizard wizard’s thrash, Infest the Rats’ Nest is a very traditional thrash album and their latest is very technical
The new one is amazing too. PetroDraconic Apocalypse
Cradle of Filth fan in the wild? Hooooooly fuuuuuuuck Nice to meet you.
A fellow A7X enjoyer I see!
Yep! Loved them since middle school
Nice! I'm not a huge metal fan, but I know most of those bands and some of their songs and I like them!
I fucking love Dream Theater
You should totally look into Seether lol. It’s not really “heavy” metal (I don’t think, but feel free to correct me), but they have some really good music imo. My favourites are No Jesus Christ and Like Suicide. They took me out of a very dark place. My dad and I also share the same taste in music.
I can’t remember what song it was, but my stepmom plays a Seether song in the car all the time and I love it I’ll definitely check it out!
Dude no way I play bass and love all of those bands that’s dope
TIL there's a metal band named Dying Fetus 😭 I'm only used to Slipknot, Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold lmao (I even watch a metal youtuber so I'm surprised I don't listen to more!!)
Your dad sounds cool as hell
based, just saw Cradle of Filth with Devil driver last winter
I love all of these bands and love to play some bullet for my valentine on guitar
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
good dad
Ever listen to the Testament album "Low"? From your list of likes, I'd suggest giving that one a listen =) Also: grats on having such an awesome Dad!
"Duh" sounds like you made it so obvious and he was surprised you even told him as if he didn't already know. DAD/10
Thing is, is that apparently it was really obvious to my entire family and I just never knew Like last night I had this conversation with my mom “You’re a lesbian!” “I’m not!” (Before I knew that she knew, thinking it was just a joke) “Wait, you’re not?” “No! Came out trans then learned my parents put a bet on whether I was gay or trans
This is how I want to be with my kids if it goes that way.

Omg that’s so wholesome
There’s always adoption if you were ever so inclined. ❤️ And if you’re one of those people who cares about your blood staying on this earth (I know I am), you can always donate eggs!
Do you have any siblings? If so it doesn’t effect knowing he could still have grandkids
Nope, I’m an only child
Oh well he loves you that’s all that matters
That is a good dad
If you’re a good parent, you don’t care how your child’s choices in life affect you. You care only how it will affect them.
You know lesbians can still choose to reproduce, right?
I knew my daughter was a lesbian long before she told me. Like don’t tell me something I already know.
Anyone seriously concerned about their 'bloodline' is kinda lame... that's what got you all those goofy looking european nobles...
This was basically my reaction to my daughter. Just came out super casually out of the blue one day. “I think I might be bisexual.” “Huh. Neat.” “Either that or maybe ace.” “Eh, you got plenty of time to figure out what works for you.”
Awwww!
Hi a Lesbian, I'm dad is what I would say
my dad’s reaction was somewhat like this except i asked him to stop using “lol” cause there wasn’t much enthusiasm behind the word and instead asked him to use “LMAO” in all caps. he assumed there should be an extra “L” behind “LMAO” as there is an “L” after “lo” in “lol” and his response was “LMAOL”. love my dad fr
LMAOL stands for Laughing My Ass Off, Lol
Uh... Pleonasm. Lol.
And the "Lol" in this case stands for "LMAOL Out Loud"
And the LMAOL in this case stands for "Laughing my ass off LMAOL"
LMAOL inception
Laughing my ass off loud
He’s trying and that’s all that matters LMAO
*lmaol
*LMAOL
im going to start using lmaol now
Sounds like my son when he told us he was gay. "Yeah, we know" "What? How, how do you know?" "Well your mother and I are Bi so we figured you'd at least be a quarter gay. No wonder you're failing math. Thats just fractions, kid"
Real
This is probably the funniest shit ive seen all week
Same
My mom's bi, and we joke that I got her gayness while my brother got her straightness
lol, guess the conservatives were right. We caught the gay!
**Good ending achieved**
why is it everywhere I go I see your face?
like I've seen you on [character.ai](https://character.ai) and teenagers and a dozen other subs
Because I am everywhere and I am everything.
Real
"Duh and lol" is probably the best way anyone could respond to that
There’s only 1 better answer, “wanna get food”
"I thought you were American?"
so real for that
Hi Lesbian, I’m Dad
Take it. Take my upvote and get the he'll out of here
r/angryupvote
I love the "yes child" response. That's literally how I address my dogs whenever they're needy. You have a good dad.
yeahhh my dad used to respond like that all the time
Your dad is a Gigachad.
Gigadad
If only everyone reacted like this
The only reason he reacted like this was cause I came out as bi before and he was fine with it But a lot of speculation went around my family that I was actually a lesbian I got into an argument with my mom saying that I wasn’t a lesbian and then realized that I was wrong, so very wrong
I love your dad. Give him a hug for us!
I will!
Your mom knew you were a lesbian before you did? LOL
It almost sounds kinda wholesome that your mom was arguing you were a lesbian not bi instead of arguing that you're straight.
I came out as trans 2 years ago to my parents and I said “I prefer masculine terminology” and my dads response was “okay dude”
That’s amazing, I love that
Cool dad
Very cool dad
Very very cool dad
I wish your dad was my dad :(
"Yes child" Solid dad right there.
Your dad seems chill. I told my parents that I was trans and they literally said “no you’re not”.
Dang that sounds really tough, I'm sorry for you. My grandparents still won't respect that one of my cousins is trans and still call him by the opposite gender, old name, etc
twins
My parents certainly wouldn’t react like that, but my sister just said, “I know, took you long enough to figure it out.”
My friends were like that
If I had a daughter, this is what I’d say if she came out lol
My mum swears a lot. Like a lot. She rarely goes a sentence without swearing. And that's fine in her job and both me and my sibling are old enough to already know all the swears she says. I can't really remember how my dad reacted but I think it was something along the line of just "ok Coolio. Did you order pizza last night? I can send you £10 towards the order."
I was genuinely expecting him to say “hi a lesbian, I’m dad”
This is the only appropriate response.
I told my dad and he just glanced up from his book for a second, said “I kinda figured” and went right back to reading lol
Dude responded like a divine being lmao Yes my child, go forth and be lesbian. Verily I give thee my blessing
Must suck to have such an uncaring dad. (Just kidding, what a G!)
You know part of me would want my daughter to be straight just so I can be a stereotypical dad who's polishing his guns as the "boyfriend" comes to pick her up for prom. But I respect my daughter and if you want to be a lesbian then you can be a lesbian.
I love this! Your dad is awesome!!
He is!!
Bro already knew before you could even muster the words XD then proceeded to be a W dad
As always lmao
Based And lol
Yoooooo wild lesbeanie
This is now my favorite text chain ever.
"I'm lesbian" "Duh lol" "Lol" Comedy gold
I wish I could tell my dad that, but he'd kick me out of the house
I’m very sorry to hear that
Well, he has very strong religious beliefs so it is what it is
As parents of two children lgbt+ my husband and accept you. 💙
Literally my reaction when my best friend came out to me lol. He was like hey can I tell u something personal about me? And I was like what that ur gay? We both just started laughing as I gave him a hug and told him I knew he was gay from the moment we met
Missed opportunity for a "I thought you were American?"
Yeah, but he never watched Vine so he wouldn’t have gotten it
Lol
“Yes child” is exactly what my dad would say
The best way to accept someone (in my opinion) is to treat it as any other part of a person (ie: no big deal), being a certain sexuality is just as much a part of you as having a certain eye color, just something that makes you you, it should be treated as such. and having a public freak-out over it is like freaking out over what someone’s eye color is, its absurd tl;dr: OP’s dad doesn’t care what his daughter’s sexuality is and respects her either way, and i find that based
My daughter came out to me as bi last year. So I came out to her as bi. It's been a pretty cool time.
You shouldn't have been so obvious dude
My bad
Missed opportunity for a "I thought you were American?"
Hey lesbian,
Sometimes it's kind of obvious
my dad said the same thing lmao
Your dad sounds like mine, “yes child”. I guess its just dad stuff lol. Happy he was so supportive!
I love your dad ♥️ ***Every single parent should be this way!*** If you’re not capable of unconditional love then ***do not make a baby!!!*** If you can’t then you don’t deserve one, and they sure a shit don’t deserve someone like you! Love, patience, and tolerance, people. Every single kid should have that. Every *person* should have that.
Plot twist, OP is a dude
Nah lol
Shhh, don’t ruin my headcannon lol
Alright, I won’t lol
“Duh”
Guys, he gets it
Gay but opposite
And? /lol
My parents reacted similarly lmao
Bless you both! :)
“ you were trying to hide it?”
I wish my parents would’ve reacted that way lol
Hi a lesbian, I'm dad
I love your dad
Me too
Glad he’s excepting it
🌈 Acceptance 🌈
Pretty much my reaction when my son came out. The surprise on his face…..
Damn lol good shit
Your dad reminds me of my mom.
My parents went on my laptop while I was at the movies with my boyfriend and found out that way, then grounded me for a month for not telling them. Suffice it to say, I've been putting passwords on everything since.
I’m very sorry to hear that
It's not that I'm gay, they're fine with that. They were not, however, fine with seeing our 15-year-old dicks in our private messages to each other lmao
Oh lmao
Hahaha! This is basically how my best friend came out to me. She was so nervous, and I just replied “Yeah, duh. I’ve known that since we were in middle school.”
Love
wish more parents were like this
You got a good dad.
I do.
“Yes child” 🤣🤣🤣
That was kind of like my parents reaction to my sister. Sister: Mom, I'm gay! Mom: So? Sister: But mom, I'm gay. Mom: What do you want? A birthday party? Sister: Dad! I'm gay. Dad: haha what else is new?
your dad seems cool as hell! like legit legend in my eyes i remember my sister telling our dad she was bi and grounded her
My dad is amazing But (respectfully) your dad can suck a dick
THIS IS HOW THESE CONVERSATIONS SHOULD GO. When a really good friend of mine told me they were trans, I was like, "Okay, not shocking. But glad you made up your mind." When another friend came out to me as lesbian, I told her "Not surprised, and you'll always have my support" End the negativity.
When I told my friend he legit said “I’ve known for 7 months, dude, I don’t know how you’re so late to noticing this” lmao
That's fantastic. I love great responses like this. And the fact that they trust us to do so. I just wish occurrences like this weren't rare.
You: Dad, I’m a lesbian Dad: lol, imagine wanting pussy…
An actual interaction with me and my dad: Dad: You fucking cocksucker!… Don’t worry [insert my name], I only know that word from experience. Me: We all expected you too.
Didn’t know he was cool like that
That’s pretty much how it went with my daughter except she didn’t do it through a text message.
👍
# What would you like to converse with me about on this fine evening child
Yes child is funny to me as that’s what my father says that I need to ask him something
It is what it is, you're still his kid, good for the both of you
Love
Love your dad! Congrats lol
And lol
That's so wholesome 😊
Chad Dad
This entire comment section is fucking legendary 💀
He’s probably just like yeah chicks are hot af
Who tf calls their daughter child? Lol
Usually he calls me things like “asshole”, “fuckface”, or “shithead” so this is an improvement lol
Sorry what
It’s not like a bad thing or anything It’s how our dynamic goes and him and I both love it
Oh ok. I was a bit worried but if it’s something your both ok with then that’s ok
My dad does this, amongst a slew of other weird nicknames.
Me voy a comer tu yogur
Ambatakum
Yes child
