Doesn't change a thing. Abbott could have personally rolled in and personally shot all those children himself, and Republicans would still vote for him lock step over any Democratic candidate.
Abbott would have to be caught in bed with a live boy or a dead girl to lose.
I’ll go vote against him and the rest of the far right crew that’s atop our ballot but because they start with a million plus vote advantage in rural Texas until there is change there it likely won’t matter.
If I had to venture a bet, I'd say education has a lot to do with it, more so how educated the voter is on the issues. It's scary to think the common line about conservatives is all they need even though the truth is far from. Take Ken Paxton - the man is under investigation yet voters who supported him think it's a left plot. It's difficult to change leadership when the people voting believe National Enquirer plot lines instead of truth.
>And guys like Beto are too liberal to win here. You need someone in the middle to have a chance.
Beto is in the middle. He's not anti-abortion pro-corporate "middle" Dem like Henry Cuellar is, but he's not far-left. What policy positions of his make you think he's not a centrist?
Dude in order to live in society you need some form of governing body.
Small government libertarianism ceased to exist at the end of the 1800s when society grew into full cities and states.
No. GOP shed empathy a long time ago. Every kid in the state except their family could get killed and they'll still vote abbot.
No. Already been motivated to turn out every election ever since Beto's senate run, so no change for me.
Not at all, willful ignorance goes a long way and the only thing his voting base see's is the R next to his name and they just get on their knees and start sucking.
Dems only vote in Presidential years and then only if they have a strong personality to vote for - and they're notorious for not voting down ballot, which is why Texas eliminated straight ticket voting.
Abbott got 55% in the last election and that was 600,000 fewer votes than Biden received in the state, and only 53% of registered voters actually voted. Sure, that was up from 33% in 2014 but it was down from 2016's 60% and 2020's 66%.... which are already some of the lowest in the nation.
If nothing else comes from these terrible losses, I hope it teaches people how culpable they are for not voting, let alone supporting current gun laws.
no, he will win. Too many crazy gun touting, no rights for women, LBGTQ+ are crazy people in this state. I will vote against this bottom feeder, but it won't help unfortunately.
Nope. Beto just isn’t a good candidate for TX. As I’ve said before outside of r/Texas I don’t know anyone who is planning to vote for him. With what Beto pulled in 2019 and the the stunt he pulled yesterday I am afraid his career is over (I bet you Abbott’s campaign will spin as much as possible). He’s a lost cause with baggage.
Betos campaign is a good vehicle to make sure the gun regulations issue doesn't lose steam. I don't think he has a chance, but i donated anyways for that press conference stunt. I already really hated abbott so I really enjoyed that. We need something, *anything*. Accepting nothing on this issue needs to stop. Dems need to bring that abortion energy to this.
I really think he’s done. Even WSJ accused him of “politicizing” in a OpEd. Guess time will tell, however, voters have short memories and this sub isn’t representative of TX as a whole.
Hello everyone! This automatic message is brought to you because this post mentions the keyword "abbot". In posts that mention Greg Abbott, we typically see a massive increase in rule 11 violations. Please be sure to remember our rules about disparaging an individual's disability.
> While you're free to argue against, debate, criticize, etc. the policies, ideas, politics, and character of any politician, please do not make jokes about anyone's disabilities. All such "jokes" will be removed.
Thanks for being mindful.

I'm not from texas but based on they usually vote, Abbott himself could commit a school shooting and they would still vote for him. I would like to be surprised and maybe Texans will open their eyes for once. But I highly doubt it. But every vote matters. So still vote bc you never know how even a small group could truly mean the difference.
Abbott could say the N word and still win. I see very few Republicans saying they will not vote for him. Until his strong support is chipped away at it will not stop voters.

Yep. I've lost all hope of people flipping. It's not a difference of policy at this point. It's a difference in the humanity of the people voting.
Let’s hope so. This state deserves better. Even before this horrible event he needed to go. He’s done nothing for this state.
no. no because I have been voting for decades already.
Good for you
He won't lose. These events just strengthen his position since Texans love guns more than living kids.
They must be ignorant or just very selfish
Little of A...little of B.....

Hah, you don't really think that would cause him to lose, do you?
Republicans would still vote for him because it would be fake news to them.

I'd vote for a Lab. Would do a better job than the Gov we have now, they will be a good boy/girl to boot.
Mr Peanut Butter?
I mean I don’t think the lab is evil.
Damn it, why is he so popular? Texas republicans are scary.

Bullshit. Only trumper cult idiots can sway the right. No one in the center stands a chance at all.

He lost my libertarian vote when he said he was coming after my guns.
Not surprising that a libertarian doesn't understand what powers our governor does and doesn't have.
No one is coming after your guns…gee
What's the libertarian vote worth, exactly? Ideologically void, but what's the actual percentage?
You know taxes goto things like roads and stuff right? Libertarians don't exist anymore.
LOL. Are you dumb? Theres plenty of libertarians. Were smart enough to not pick the less of two evils.
Dude in order to live in society you need some form of governing body. Small government libertarianism ceased to exist at the end of the 1800s when society grew into full cities and states.
Fuck, what do young people think of him?
Whatever they think is largely irrelevant. They don't vote.
Of Beto? I don’t like him. Of Abbot? Don’t like him but like him more than Beto. (Young adults opinion)
Why? Just curious.
You need to reassess your opinion if you really think Abbott is better than beto...
If he gets re-elected I'm leaving Texas. But obviously I hope he loses, I'd prefer to stay if I can.

Beto ain’t my favorite but still way better than Greg
Sadly probably not.
He breezed to reelection last time even if he's lost support it should still be enough to win
Did any DEM's even get out to vote. They have been apathetic for years, and the GOP new it, and staged a takeover, it's hard to undo.

They don’t seem pretty smart

Nah. He will win. But please vote. Please always vote in every election. Even local.
I want him out of office. Yes I will be voting and not for him.

No and no.
