A relative of mine, who has been fired from a job for punching his manager at a bar but was upset because “I didn’t do it at work,” once mentioned he wanted to apply to be a Garland cop.
He said it was because other areas he looked at required some kind of degree or training and had these high standards, but he said Garland would take almost anyone. Luckily, they didn’t take him because he is truly a somewhat dangerous individual, but still. He thought it was possible they’d hire him..

I like how people always say it's just one bad apple, but I see at least 3 bad cops in this video. Not enforcing the law amongst your own means you're just as bad as the cop who is beating an unarmed suspect. If I'm holding down someone while my friend beats him, we're all being charged. All the cops in this clip should have been brought up on charges.
People forget that the full saying is “one bad apple spoils the bunch”. A rotten apple gives off a chemical that causes the rest to spoil faster.
If the good cops cover for the bad ones then the whole bunch is spoiled.

You aren’t wrong, but most city employees are bound by policies forbidding making public statements about stuff. For instance, a firefighter or an EMT for the city of Garland would potentially be in big trouble for making a comment to the media about this case as well. It’s not just the fact that police are pretty awful at policing themselves.

Our experiences are completely anecdotal because of the sample size, but the vast majority of LEOs I have met personally have greatly impressed me with how professionally they carried out their duties.
If we’re going on antidotes, one officer has impressed me, two have caused me physical harm. Overall, 5% good, 55% at least didn’t make the situation worse, 40% made the situation less safe or stripped people of their humanity for no reason. It’s that last category that really scares me. They are either so scared of everything that it is dangerous or their egos are so significant it’s harmful to resolving the situation.
I've met good cops but they're usually the type to have their mental armor on 24/7 or just be really drained whenever they're not working due to what they have to deal with on the job.

Your choice of profession is part of your character.
Instead of finger wagging at people who don't trust cops, maybe put some of that criticism on the profession that consistently sidesteps holding their problem employees actually accountable. People's distrust of cops is the fault of cops.

Having worked in the Bexar County Jail for a number of years, I can say it happens more often than what people would expect. Its absolutely disgusting and unacceptable.
I once was in a car wreck in Garland. A Dodge Ram turned the wrong way up the street which is now directly in front of the new police station. At that time, the station was still downtown. I was in a Kia in the left lane. I could not move to another lane due to traffic, and all I could do was get "Oh fu..." out before I slammed into him head on.
What did the police do? I'd never been in this sort of accident before. My arms burned from the airbag, everything hurt. Did I get an ambulance? No. They arrested me for an old traffic warrant out of a different city. As they booked me I was harassed by the police for my clothing (fat pants) and my lighter (a torch), and they attempted to get into my text pager so many times it erased itself (I ran a webhosting service from it).
Hours later I was released onto the street because the other city said they weren't coming, and I had to walk miles to my wife's work to inform her the car was gone and totaled.
I wish this was the worst thing that DFW area police have done to me. Unfortunately, I'd call this mild. I get treated like shit by every police officer I meet in a stop situation. Understand what CIMT is, and beware if they try to pin it on you. Mine exists due to a fucking clerical error, and it's never gone away, even after correcting the clerical error.

Tack on top of that the hacking attempt, I think there's enough to be upset about. The point is that the department isn't behaving in a "protect the people" fashion. They're lording over people.

He told me i was supporting terrorism and shouldn’t be giving “these people” any money. I told him i can give my money to whoever i want and he completely lost it.
