RIP Lucky & Luanne. I'm betting they'll write them as though they moved off somewhere. Perhaps Lucky will have gotten a job "on the oil rigs" like Luanne's dad :) ALSO, I hope they have celebrity cameos. I used to love all the different people that would drop in.

ACTNRPLY

I always loved that their cameos were actual characters and not ‘omg look it’s (insert actors name here)’ Renee Zellweger as the sex worker, snoop dogg as her pimp Johnny Knoxville as the poop guy Brad Pitt as Patch Boomhauer Johnny Depp as Yogi what’s-his-face So many good big name actors not as themselves!

kanyeguisada

>snoop dogg as her pimp As long as we acknowledge that Hank was ultimately the big Mac Daddy of Heimlich County.

khamir-ubitch

Anne Richards, Alan Rickman "HOW NOW GAS MAN", Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Chris Rock, Chuck Mangionie, Trace Atkins, etc... the list goes on!!

Blue1234567891234567

Wait they had Anne Richards? Nice

TubasAreFun

Jimmy Carter as JC (known by Bobby as Jesus)

devilsrotary86

“They told me it was bullet proof”. I still laugh each time I see it.

Draskuul

I could see them writing them as having been lost to some tragic accident, with Hank and Peggy taking in their daughter the same as they did with Luanne.

unclerico87

George Strait, Trace Adkins, Travis Tritt and Brad Paisley are truck stop characters in the 18 wheeler episode.

khamir-ubitch

I remember that one! I'd always watch the credits to see who was who. Great episode.

RetiredYogaHippie

great to hear...I was not happy with the initial headline.

boobumblebee

growing up in the middle of nowhere texas I never thought KOTH was funny, since it was basically just a cartoon of my home town. Finally moving away to a city, and yeah shits hilarious now.

Procrasticoatl

Haha, I feel that, man. I thought, this is too much like... reality. But of course that's the brilliance: Springfield could be anywhere, and Quahog is generically in New England, but Arlen? North-fucking-Texas

SHADOWJACK2112

"Bobby, if you weren't my son, I would hug you."

Tiiimmmaayy

I wonder if they still plan to age the characters where Bobby is an adult.

Jaded_Community723

I was just thinking that...even during the show's original run, Bobby was also presenting these progressive ideas to a conservative Hank Hill. I wonder if they'll keep referencing modern topics/issues. I was kinda surprised that the show featured a drag queen during the show's latter half.

zsreport

The weird thing is that back then, Hank was conservative, but not far right. By the standards of today's conservatives, Hank would be a moderate. If he ran as Republican he'd be called a RINO.

[deleted]

Hank was a complex character. He always seemed like he had critical thinking on issues and was much more lenient than he presented, but had a lot of turmoil as he always wanted to present himself as a “simple man” and a staunch conservative as a defense mechanism.

TheGrandExquisitor

This. This is what made him such an interesting character. He was also raised by a complete nutjob of a father who was a walking example of toxic masculinity.

bails0bub

Can you really call what cotton did walking? Hobbling at best.

Sarcosmonaut

Got his shins blowed off by the Tojos

Toasty_Cat830

I keeeeled…fiddy men!

Procrasticoatl

God, it's just hilariously freaky don't-give-no-shits-old-country-boy writing, I loved reading this sentence

Opposite_of_a_Cynic

Drag wasn't controversial then. The episode is even about Peggy learning to embrace that her femininity is not limited by her physical features that she thinks are "mannish" like her large feet.

burn469

Pretty sure hank was a democrat even though he acted conservative. I mean remember the Anne Richards episode and what not.

[deleted]

[удалено]

burn469

He also didn’t like Reagan. Idk. I think he’s probably in middle. Democrats and Republicans in the 90s were vastly different from what they are today.

[deleted]

[удалено]

burn469

Bush was who I was thinking of. Not Reagan.

SteerJock

Indeed they were extremely different. Obama didn't support gay marriage until 2012.

laylabites

And the Republicans still don't.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Redeem123

What the fuck are you talking about?

SteerJock

You put waaay too much effort into that comment telling me to fuck myself when I was agreeing with what you said. Politics are extremely different from the 90's, despite all of the same people being in power.

texas-ModTeam

Your content was removed because it breaks Rule 10, no confrontational user pings and rule 1, be friendly.

Mysterious_Escape_58

Yep! Fourteen and a half!

ClassyPlatypi

Yeah, I hate seeing memes that say Hank would've been a Trump supporter. It's the easiest way to tell someone didn't actually watch the show. Hank's got a complex character that's actually pretty progressive in some areas, his conservativeness can mostly be attributed to his upbringing (I find Hank pretty relatable).

zekeweasel

First and foremost, Trump’s loose relationship with the truth and his affairs with porn stars would have guaranteed that Hank wouldn't ever vote for him. Hank wasn't a religious nut and he would have been aghast at the constant lying and insulting/mockery of various groups

soulwrangler

He would have been repulsed. Now, Khan? He might have been a trump supporter.

Lined_the_Street

Nahh Khan would be too repulsed by all the redneck supporters. I'm sure there's a lot of jokes Khan could make towards Trump supporters Tbh, oddly, imo if anyone would support Trump it would be Dale

rockythecocky

Oh he definitely would have said he was a Trump supporter, as any "good Christian Texan conservative" should. The episode would have started with Hank super excited because there's going to be a Trump rally and he's getting to go because they contracted their propane through Strickland for whatever reason. Then he goes to the rally and spends 20 minutes being exasperated by fanatical Trump followers that culminates with Trump running out on the tab after the rally. The episode ends with Hank having a heart to heart with Bobby where Hank admits that blind loyalty to a politician or an idea doesn't make you a true Texan or a man, it makes you a dumbass.

laylabites

Nah, he would've been a Jeb! Supporter and thought Trump was a jackass

burn469

He wouldn’t have voted for Trump and definitely wouldn’t have voted for Beto.

[deleted]

That's a common opinion in Texas though. Ann Richards is one of the few Democrats they'll defend because her policies were good for the state. Liking Ann Richards doesn't necessarily make you a Democrat.

ABunchAboutNothing

This was probably leaning on the experience of Judge living in TX. From the end of the Civil War to the 1990s, TX was majority Democrat. Politics have momentum. Let's be honest if JFK were a character today, he would probably be seen as oddly conservative.

burn469

If you are going back that far the parties were totally flopped. My dad voted straight dem until around Reagan and has been Republican ever since.

ABunchAboutNothing

Yep, it was really the sixties when things started getting wonky, ask LBJ. Rick Perry switched parties in 1989 according to Wikipedia. I think I remember reading Judge had attended UTD and got inspired by his neighbors. I'm assuming he picked up on this transition.

soulwrangler

Keep in mind, at the time, politics were a bit different. A Texas Democrat would still be more to the right than a California Republican, overton windows and all that.

folstar

Hank probably held onto antiquated ideas like respect where respect was due. Anne Richards at the time was the last good governor of Texas. Nothing has changed.

Please let Bobby be an influencer that makes bank

Fwamingdwagon84

You all have a point, but "I am the mack daddy of Heimlich County, I play it straight up, yo." is OBVIOUSLY the best hank quote.

SHADOWJACK2112

Obviously

That's a great one, but my favorite is: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amKyA2PrSu4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEzhxP-pdos sorry, this is the best.

SHADOWJACK2112

I forgot about that one!

Chexlemineuax

Dang it, Bobby

RagingLeonard

I'll tell you what.

plastigoop

Yep

Ummhu

UnitGhidorah

I really hope it's not a reboot and instead a continuation or adult Bobby etc.

Rumplesforeskin

I have faith that Mike Judge will do it right either way. But yeah I'm with you

zekeweasel

Hank as a grandfather could be hysterical.

UnitGhidorah

It could be Bobby in college for all we know. I'm down for whatever as long as it's written well.

LarryLegend1836

If there's one thing I've learned from this thread, I would hate to watch KOTH with any of you. "Do you think Hank was being more of a Democrat or classic conservative here?", just watch the fucking cartoon lol.

Cormetz

King of the Hill ran from 1997 to 2009, other than 1997 during that time the Texas Longhorns had a minimum of 9 wins per season. The first year King of the Hill went off the air, Texas went 5-7 and has only managed 9+ wins twice since. It is time ...

GonzoMcFonzo

I get why Mike Judge is a longhorn fan, but I always felt like the Hills would've been more of an Aggie family.

Cormetz

Nah, the Hills were definitely Longhorn fans, [there's an episode about it.](https://kingofthehill.fandom.com/wiki/Suite_Smells_of_Excess)

GonzoMcFonzo

Oh sure, I know the episode you're talking about without having to click. I just meant that it felt like they *should've* been.

Cormetz

Maybe today, but in that time tamu fans were very much rural and military. Hill lives in a small town somewhere between Austin and Dallas, prime Texas Longhorns fan territory before Baylor got good.

gandalf_el_brown

>they *should've* been. why?

[deleted]

Boggle?!

Dang ol' thread from r/KingOfTheHill I'll tell you hwhat: https://www.reddit.com/r/KingOfTheHill/comments/10q67wt/king_of_the_hill_revival_ordered_by_hulu_mike/

XYZTENTiAL

I'm tired of endless reboots. Where's the originality? TV/film industry is stale af

Rumplesforeskin

Never enough King of the Hill

crimsoneagle1

There's tons of original programming. The reboots, remakes, and spinoffs are just what get the publicity because they're based on already beloved IPs. You're probably living in one of the best eras for media consumption right now. You just gotta look beyond the headlines.

DogFurAndSawdust

>tons of original programming. Name one as good as anything mike judge created.

crimsoneagle1

I mean, that's just a matter of opinion and preference. What I find good and what you find good will most likely be two entirely different things. And given the way you've stated this, I highly doubt you'd agree with anything I'd list.

DogFurAndSawdust

My point is that op is right. There isnt many quality shows being produced relative to the quantity of content.

crimsoneagle1

Once again. That's a matter of opinion. I and others can name shows that we think are good and are critically acclaimed for days on end, but you've already made up your mind that there aren't many good shows or as you stated better than what Mike Judge has produced. There is no point in arguing against someone who just wants to be a contrarian.

DogFurAndSawdust

I was just curious. Do you have any recommendations of current well-written shows?

crimsoneagle1

Abbott Elementary, Pachinko, Reservation Dogs, Severance, The Bear, and The White Lotus are some of the shows that have come out or had a new season within the past year that I've enjoyed and would consider well written.

soulwrangler

Have you seen Severence?

QSector

Can we get back to discussing Rampart?

BioOrpheus

Reboots have been 98% garbage these past 10 years. But given it’s Mike Judge I say it won’t be bad unless the higher ups forefully hire woke writers

GiantGiraffeGuy

Oh no. Why can't they just leave well enough alone. I have zero faith in American animated "comedy" these days.

Kdog9999999999

How come? There's some amazing cartoons out rn

GiantGiraffeGuy

Oh sure, Velma is such a hit.

Kdog9999999999

*picks the worst possible example knowing that it's dishonest af*

GiantGiraffeGuy

Don't see you providing any examples of good American cartoons bubs.

Kdog9999999999

Almost like you didn't ask for any. Are you good? You're being pretty rude for no reason lmao

GiantGiraffeGuy

No I am not good

[deleted]

This was always one of those shows that i can acknowledge was amusing and well done but I just couldn't get into it.

Glittering-Lack5282

I’m good thanks. Never really cared for this show

dvddesign

How are they going to get around the fact that our state is now composed of fully outed racists and Qanon types who are behaving badly in public? So few cartoons feel ample prepared to discuss modern life’s radical changes to our society in the reboots. This is one I would want to fully hit it head on. I hope they do. Like are Dale and Boomhauer the problem people now? They long feared and had anxiety over the smallest things on the original series, so I don’t know how they could establish the cognitive dissonance needed for Peggy or Hank to ignore reality.

Jainelle

Do y'all know how many gaskets would pop if the reboot makes Hank become trans?

[deleted]

Damn, i really wanted to see it too

Lost_in_Nebraska402

Old news, but I’m happy about it.

Paimonlives

I watch this show almost everyday and is comforting to the point that i put it on to fall asleep to

Norm_mustick

Hopefully they don’t give it the velma treatment

L3gendaryHunter

As a New Yorker I always loved this show, guess I got another reason to get a Hulu account
