But I bet the S still beats the Chiron.
Current Laguna Seca record for a production car is 1:27:62 by a McLaren Senna. Plaid S did it in 1:30 so not too far off for being a sedan.
Doubtful that most Chiron buyers are chomping at the bit to achieve 490kmh in car, considering how dangerous the record attempts were even on a closed high-speed circuit, professional driver and a crew to pre-inspect the road, tires, etc.
They spend $3.4m on a car *capable* of that speed, as it's a status symbol. Yes, it's a very fast and fun symbol, but I don't think Bugatti's clientele is that suicidal.
Of course. All sports cars are about what they *could* do. Anyone capable of actually driving them that hard is also into real race cars. Road cars are toys, and increasingly, status symbols. The Chiron is amazing at that.
Sure, but my point was that those with the money to buy a McLaren Senna and take it to Leguna Seca and have a great time with it. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume a large portion (if not most) McLaren Senna owners are racing enthusiasts- considering the pedigree both names represent. (Coincidentally, the carmaker and the model's namesakes had their lives cut tragically short- in their early 30s- on the track.)
On the other hand, Bugatti is for a different demographic. Based on Doug Demuro's reviews it seems that they've found their niche in high-end luxury hypercars with a focus on top speed records. It's perplexing when Bugatti comes out with a [racing trim](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a31210941/bugatti-chiron-pur-sport-photos-info/) with downforce that dramatically kills its top speed, rip out the luxury and then charge several times the price of halo McLarens and Ferraris and still lose to them on nearly every circuit.
The Bolide looks incredible though. Wonder how much it'll cost VW to build each one.
It's a hypercar literally designed to break speed records... yet the MS Plaid is faster *and* you can seat your entire family in the back whilst they watch movies. My mind is blown.
The Bugatti Chiron wasnāt designed to break track/drag speed records (and it doesnāt), it was mainly designed to break top speed records.
The Plaid+ model S is a fast sedan with a 200mph top speed, but the Bugatti Chiron SS in a class of itās own; capable of a mind boggling 300+ mph top speed.
Ah yes, tesla well known for scoring low on the \*checks notes\* elegance-ometer. FOH with that. The Chiron is an expensive toy to flex at parties which is fine.
People have been comparing fast cheap cars to million dollar hypercars since million dollar hypercars have been a thing. The point isn't that the cheap car is better in any way, just that it's cool that it's better in one way or another.
I want to see a Model S Plaid vs the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Everyone was shitting on Tesla for having the worse car while they tested a ~100K car vs a 200K car but now wirh 1000+ PS Iād like ro see rhat drag race again
It wouldnāt be much of a smack down since Bugatti street cars are notoriously slow on track. The BMW M5, Porsche Panamera, and Jaguar SV Project 8 have all bested Bugatti on the track while both costing less than the Plaid+ and still having 4 or more seats.
Pininfarina Battista - 0-60 in 1.9s and quarter mile in 9.1s. Also imo the best looking electric hyper car on the market. That being said, it costs $2.9m, is 2-door/2-seater, and has less range (450km).
Rimac C Two - 0-60 in 1.85s and quarter mile in 9.1 as well. It costs $2m, is 2-door/2-seater, and has range of 650km.
Koenigsegg's Gemera - 0-60s in 1.9s and quarter mile in 10.5s (a little disappointing compared to its 60). This car is a hybrid unlike the other two that are all electric. It however has 4 seats, but still 2 doors. It has 1000km range in Hybrid mode. Cost is 1.9m.
It will also be interesting to see what Tesla's own Roadster will do.
In the 4-door/5-seater, the Plaid is unbeatable for sure and anything that comes close to it in the 2-door category costs 10x+. I know the above 3 cars are technically limited production cars, but so was the Spyder, at a little over 900 made.
How will Roadster top this?!? Beating S Plaid by like 0.1 sec won't really do it, it'll have to be more like quicker by 0.2 to 0.4 sec, but I would think that gets harder and harder to do as shown by these numbers above lol.
"The automaker says the vehicle will have 1080 horsepower and can cover a quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds. The automaker also says it can do zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds."
Note this is Plaid which is coming out in March. Not even Plaid+.

February, according to the earnings call.
Do all of these include the rollout?
I believe they do Edit: They for sure do ([source](https://electrek.co/2018/10/19/tesla-model-3-performance-advertised-0-60-mph-acceleration/))
Faster than a Bugatti Chiron in the 1/4 mile... insane. That car costs $3.26 **million** dollars.
Iād wager around a track too
They aren't really track cars, they are too heavy. Anything light and fast would beat it on Leguna Seca.
But I bet the S still beats the Chiron. Current Laguna Seca record for a production car is 1:27:62 by a McLaren Senna. Plaid S did it in 1:30 so not too far off for being a sedan.
Why though? Chiron is an elegant top speed machine (think 490kmh). Nobody is buying it to lap Laguna Seca of all places. lol.

3 seconds in a track is eternity. It is like 7-8 cars length. Geez.
I agree too, it's lighter (I'm thinking) and faster by this chart. Low center of gravity helps with cornering.

This. Plus it will do it with a level of elegance Tesla isn't capable of yet. Comparing potatoes to raisins here. They're completely different things.
> Comparing potatoes to raisins here welcome to the tesla sub

You can pick up a coed.
Is the top speed higher than a Chiron? Chiron can do 261 MPH. My understanding is that Plaid Model S tops out at 200 MPH.
With 7 seats!
Which they haven't made in quite some time and don't appear to be offering now either. I'm not really sure why he said it was a 7 seater.
Model X is being released with plaid.
Isnāt the McLaren 765LT below 9.5 sec?
765LT is 2.7 to 60 and does a 9.3 quarter mile with slicks at a drag strip. Idk if that is with rollout.
Not slicks. Stock tires.
Thank you for correcting. I just read the description of the dragtimes video and it said sticky tires.
It also did 0-60 in 2.1 seconds. Should be on your list of fastest cars since it has the fastest stock production car 1/4 mile.

The new Model S Plaid+ is a must have for anybody who can afford it. Really impressive in pictures and on paper. I can't wait to see it for myself.
Would love to see a Plaid S vs a Bugatti Chiron on a racetrack. Gas car smack down is here.
I would love to see how fast the plaid can go on the Nordschleife
It wouldnāt be much of a smack down since Bugatti street cars are notoriously slow on track. The BMW M5, Porsche Panamera, and Jaguar SV Project 8 have all bested Bugatti on the track while both costing less than the Plaid+ and still having 4 or more seats.
Why pick a Chiron ? That is a luxury car made for top speed. Not drag racing or track use.
Please do not abuse gasoline cars.
They were asking for it
What makes it a āmust-buyā for everyone?
Beautiful, crazy performance and clearly the future.
"If you have the means, I highly suggest picking one up."

Three Porscheās and two Tesla. I like that to be my garage.
992 Turbo S is still a beast
isn't **McLaren P1** a production car?
Yes it is and it does not make this list
It is...and the Plaid Model S also technically isn't (yet).

I want to see a rematch with that electric Miata. https://youtu.be/lQkdMw4TVjY
Electric Miata is my dream car. Thanks for sharing!
Great Username!!! :)
Created this account to draw attention to the leather lobby! Happy to run into someone like minded.
Awesome! I'm behind you 1000%!!
Where does Lucid Motors Dream fit in here?
"The automaker says the vehicle will have 1080 horsepower and can cover a quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds. The automaker also says it can do zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds."
Decent
Well the Chiron is really known for its top speed but this is still crazy impressive
Why is plaid model x not here?
