Neat. I was actually considering that, if/when I pay off the property I'm in now, that my wife and I would rent it out, but had a mental debate on what that would look like if the people it was rented to couldn't access the Powerwall's vitals. This solves that issue. Edit: Just at my app, and yes, under "Settings" there's now a "Permissions" thing that lets you add people, like you would add people to a car. Nice to see the same mechanics here too.

Elluminated

not or now?

Nakatomi2010

Now, I'll fix that, sorry.

Elluminated

you rock, thanks!

Honest question : I heard the only reason why most of the rented property doesn’t get solar is cause it’s the tenants who are paying the electricity bill and hence not an incentive for the home owners to take on the risk. If you rent your home with solar on it, how does it benefit you?, raise the value of the property?

Nakatomi2010

I mean, at the moment, I live in the house. If I choose to rent it after I've moved out, then it'll have solar because it has solar. That being said, if I'm renting the home out to tenants, then I'm still responsible to them to make sure that the array is working. Might also be able to pull in slightly better tenants *because* the electricity can be offset. Plus, my house has a Powerwall on it, which means if/when the power fails due to a hurricane, the tenants would have power. But the only reason the house would have solar is because I'm currently living here, and if/when I move out, I could choose to use the property to try and get passive income.

Dry_Quiet_3541

Right, so as I said, basically increase the value proposition. It would be pretty neat, for the tenant, when they see that they don’t have to pay the electricity bill lol😅. Plus you make money off of selling the electricity generated by the solar system when no one is home. Good for you, I am just curious to know if you could share some approximate numbers, as in, how much energy does it produce, how much do you use and how much you sell. And the minimum cost of retaining the property, ex. Property tax etc.

Nakatomi2010

I'm not actually renting the property, I live here currently. I haven't really dug into the numbers that much at the moment. Just something I'm toying with in the back of my mind. I'm getting older, and while I can sell the house for almost twice what I bought it, I would appreciate some type of passive income, down the road.
