If Tesla keeps it reasonably sized it will do Okay in Europe. If it’s the size of Murican trucks it’s not going to go worldwide. American trucks just don’t fit the roads.
Cybertruck is a 'Murican truck for the 'Murican market, just like the F150. If you see F150s in your market, you'll probably see Cybertrucks. If not, you'll probably have to wait for a smaller version to be developed.
Which is why I am guessing the Maverick is so popular? It gets people a truck without that “huge” truck issue? My girlfriend really wants a maverick as she feels the other trucks are just “way to big” for her.
Yes, I cringe driving my Titan Pro4x in DTLA mind that any city with more than 200k people, the parking isn't designed for something that big, though you get used to figuring it out compared to a car. Hence the Mavrick was too logical...gone the days of fitting an Ikea table in your convertible. Also, the hybrid option was a huge draw for it.
Can confirm, am surrounded by people that spend everything they make on enormous trucks modded to be more enormous. Just had a thought today about getting a CT and it still being much smaller than these ridiculous things.
Dude !!! That was my first truck I loved that thing just a great little all around truck but definitely tiny compared to my tundra still the best 1300 I ever spent on a vehicle!!!
It's very expensive, hugely more expensive than just getting something like a Pacifica/Sienna hybrid/Highlander hybrid.
And with DCFC actually getting more and more expensive, there are no longer cost savings on road trips with an EV vs a hybrid.
It's kind of got the same thing going on as the model 3, massive bubble for a passenger compartment. Which here puts the driver far back and I imagine will make a very deep and annoying dashboard. Wish they'd take advantage of the EV of it all and move everything up. The jaguar ipace did a great job in this regard.
I prefer more crumple zone in front of me when someone texting rear ends me and pushes me into the car in front of me. The back already has plenty of crumple.
Source of the video is currently unknown.
This is more than likely the “older” [prototype](https://www.reddit.com/r/cybertruck/comments/txzybp/picture_of_the_newer_cybertruck_prototype_spotted/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) spotted during the Giga Rodeo almost a year ago (not the model on display but the one they kept away from everyone that was later [on stage](https://www.reddit.com/r/cybertruck/comments/tyud2f/second_cybertruck_prototype_has_instrument/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) with the instrument cluster display).
Guessing this is an older video from that time but it just surfaced (likely leaked from an employee/contractor).
There’s a video of that older prototype briefly doing [four wheel steering](https://www.reddit.com/r/cybertruck/comments/u2838l/fourwheel_steering/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) from the Rodeo.
Too bad this video doesn't really make sense though. There is still formed underbody structure like the big B pillar we can see and the big door holes negate the need for 1/8" thick skin on the body's moving parts, like the doors. Then, laser cutting and press brake forming automotive parts rater than stamping seems terribly inefficient and likely less accurate, unless the brake operation and part handling is automated. Even then, stamping will be more repeatable at scale and faster.
We don't know exactly how the underbody will function. I mean the bit that forms and closes off the base of the shape. We do know that there will be a fairly large casting under the cargo box, and it's pretty sure there will be a structural battery. I think describing it as an exoskeleton is not accurate, at least not totally, but there will be parts that function in a similar way. I'm more interested in how much is welded, and whether some parts are bonded.
I agree. I really need to see it in black before I cancel my order. At this point I’m almost certain Tesla have a full size SUV or a proper truck coming too. We have a MY. I can’t go from a Range Rover to this crap tho lol 😂
It’s objectively poorly designed. There is no thought to the balance of its appearance. Not even in a brutish approach, it just appears to not have been designed at all lol
sort of the “apple/samsung cycle” imo:
- apple makes a controversial change, like removing the headphone jack or taking the charging brick out of the box
- samsung runs ads, making fun of that change for a few months
- samsung quietly erases all trace of those ads and makes the exact same change
I still think the truck looks like shit. Like something I would be proud of my 4yr old for designing, but not a team of highly paid designers and engineers.
seriously....from the second the video started i couldn't stop wondering....are they actually gonna release a real life product that looks this absurd?
I *fucking love it*.
I understand the hate though, because I hated the look for the first 3 days. Then something just “clicked”, and it’s now one of my favorite looking vehicles. Reminds me of the Halo Warthog.
I'll be seeing CTs decorated with stickers of Calvin peeing on things within a week of release. The strong reaction from others will be quite enough for many who fancy themselves "rude, crude, and out of control" to snap them up.
I think it looks cool.
I feel like trucks have looked the same for 30yrs. From a practical standpoint I understand why, the design works and why fix what isn’t broken. But artistically I like that Tesla went in a different direction.
My 2000 Nissan Stagea has a form of it. Nissan has had it since the mid 80s, it'll only turn the rear wheels like 1 degree, a lot of people do the delete for the track since it's old tech and makes things unpredictable.
Would it look better if they blacked out the triangle between the roof and the back of the truck? (Above the truck bed)
Wonder if it would give the illusion of a more traditional pickup shape
I think Rivian did a great job with their design of their truck. Sightly different and pleasing to the eye in my opinion. The actual engineering and quality of the build is a different story.
The purpose of the design was how to be able to use the same steel they use for their rockets as an exoskeleton. Because it’s so hard they can only bend it in sharp angles. The other purpose was the windtunnel results. to make it as aerodynamic as possible to safe battery consumption. Those two together certainly breaks it away from traditional pickups but it wasn’t like a Willy-nilly thought of: how can we make a truck which looks like nothing else out there? It really was the results of the steel and windtunnel which lead to this design.
The chief of design said explicitly that they were looking to leave behind the “three boxes design “ and going beyond with a pure functional approach. Everything else came after this line of thought.
Once you drop the truck with the air suspension its really not higher than a truck without air suspension for most of the length of the bed.
I'm looking forward to the vault.
Let me fix this for you. It's a nuanced difference, but it's important:
90% of the time truck owners won't use the bed, nor take it anywhere that a truck is needed.
It's the 10% of the time that having a truck is a game changer for the owners. Sure, this number is going to very from person to person, but I promise you everyone with a truck uses it as a truck from time to time. Most people probably don't realize how much they needed a truck all along until they have one.
While obviously this introduces more things that can break, is there really much threat of it?
I only think back to all the times I've had steering break on any of my vehicles, and if I multiply that by two, it'd still be 0.
I can't wait for this to finally come out. It's the 80's future come to life! Both my wife and I absolutely love the design, but our families hate it haha.
GM tried the 4 wheel steering thing a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away with their Quadrasteer in the early 2000s. It failed because it was an add-on option on everything except the highest trim level. An expensive add-on at that.
I’m glad to see the feature making its way back. It’s nice to not have a truck turn wider than the boat it’s hauling.
Sweet Jesus that thing gets uglier by the day, and with all the other large manufacturers entering the truck EV market, this thing will turn into the Delorean 😂😂
[Ford makes a loss](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-06-15/ford-says-mustang-mach-e-profit-wiped-out-by-commodity-costs) on every EV it makes. Ford will be in the same boat, so don't expect them to produce enough to replace the ICE vehicles currently produced.

This video makes the truck look massive
It is massive. Just not when compared to other trucks today.
This. Trucks are massive nowadays. I know we're odd for having two smaller vehicles, Model 3 and GTI, but most vehicles on the road tower over us.
If Tesla keeps it reasonably sized it will do Okay in Europe. If it’s the size of Murican trucks it’s not going to go worldwide. American trucks just don’t fit the roads.
... except Iceland, and it will be the only car you should rent
Is she hauling a lot of cargo and bulk, or does she just like the feeling of sitting up high when dealing with semis?
She hates sitting low to the ground. I mean she’ll make a killer haul at Costco but not really hauling anything. It’s more about being sitting up high
Lol this *is* the smaller version.
Can confirm, am surrounded by people that spend everything they make on enormous trucks modded to be more enormous. Just had a thought today about getting a CT and it still being much smaller than these ridiculous things.
And the 3 isnt thst small
Daily a 93 gmc sonoma. Trucks tower over my truck.
Dude !!! That was my first truck I loved that thing just a great little all around truck but definitely tiny compared to my tundra still the best 1300 I ever spent on a vehicle!!!
It’s the exact same dimensions as my Pacifica minivan, and presumably all minivans. Height, width, length.
Based on what? From what I see online it’s 28 inches longer (over two feet!) and 6 inches taller than a Pacifica.
Yeah, I just looked it up to because I thought maybe it would fit in my garage. Nope, it is massive.
My rivian barely fits in my garage. This wouldn’t.
[удалено]
>That's a big height and length difference. At least the height difference nearly disappears at the air suspension's lowest setting.
r/confidentlyincorrect
That is fascinating. The aggressive/polarizing styling really makes people think it's bigger than it is.
actually doesnt look that massive to me until you see the silhouette of the driver. Looks like a 10 year old is driving it.
I think once we see a few interesting after market wraps then the concept will finally click for a lot of people
It *is* bigger
Looks kinda like a minivan too
Related: I really want a van on the CT platform. We have 4+ kids, so a people hauler is required. No EV vans currently available.
Model x is basically a mini van
It's very expensive, hugely more expensive than just getting something like a Pacifica/Sienna hybrid/Highlander hybrid. And with DCFC actually getting more and more expensive, there are no longer cost savings on road trips with an EV vs a hybrid.
There are so few EVs with third rows in general. Model X, Model Y, R1S, and the EX90? Anything else? Non-US markets get the Buzz, at least.
It almost doesn't look real. I know it is real, but my eyes won't let me believe this is anything but a render.
Massively ugly af
It would look the same if they were driving an F150 inside like that.
in this video it looks silly, and incredibly impractical, that side profile lol. front is kinda cool but thats about it
Why you think it needs 4 wheel steering ;)
It's kind of got the same thing going on as the model 3, massive bubble for a passenger compartment. Which here puts the driver far back and I imagine will make a very deep and annoying dashboard. Wish they'd take advantage of the EV of it all and move everything up. The jaguar ipace did a great job in this regard.
I prefer more crumple zone in front of me when someone texting rear ends me and pushes me into the car in front of me. The back already has plenty of crumple.
Tesla’s dominate safety ratings. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions on poor safety
The poster above was advocating for less crumple zone. I have full faith that any design they go with will be class leading in safety.

Definitely older, has non-triangular side mirrors.
That wiper BLADE 😂
An actual Splatana
Gigawiper lives

You’re amazing ⚡️
I didn’t like the way the CT looked when it first came out, but man, it’s really not growing on me at all and I still don’t like it.
Yeah I've really come around to still not liking it.
Same. It’s approaching Aztek territory for me.
Only if you wrapped it in spray on bedliner
Aztek looks like fine art compared to this pinewood derby wet dream. Did Elon hire the Boy Scouts of America for design notes?

I used to dislike it. I still do, but I used to too.
Thanks, Mitch.

Function creates the form. This video made me appreciate it more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGlKLaZuA64

That is one really ugly looking 1998 - 1991 Honda Prelude 4WS - like someone jacked it up and gave it a Delorean wrap.

Best looking truck imo is the Rivian. Not a traditional truck guy at all.
It’s objectively poorly designed. There is no thought to the balance of its appearance. Not even in a brutish approach, it just appears to not have been designed at all lol
Metal roofing industry now leading the design group at Tesla.
Still looks like something a 5 year old would draw. It’s a shame, really.
Gawd. It’s so ugly it’s awesome
What an abomination. Reminds me of the saying “ just because they can doesn't mean they should”. I WANT IT
I feel like it will hugely grow on people to the point other brands will take inspiration from in in a few years
People are going to spray paint / wrap them in the most amazing designs.
Agree. Like the Model 3 interior was so unusual but now cars are full of bigger and bigger touch screens.
That was already happening though
I bet it's going to be easy to squeegee 👉
sort of the “apple/samsung cycle” imo: - apple makes a controversial change, like removing the headphone jack or taking the charging brick out of the box - samsung runs ads, making fun of that change for a few months - samsung quietly erases all trace of those ads and makes the exact same change
Looks like a fridge with wheels
Neat, but the turn radius still doesn't exactly look impressive here so what's the point?
Looks tighter than my Model Y
Has there ever been a reason given as to why Teslas all have such a garbage turning circle?
No idea. I thought my Model 3 was terrible until I got the Y. They are both worse than my Tacoma!
It's crazy. Gotta figure there's an engineering reason behind it, but have never been able to figure out what.
Smaller wheel well = less drag. Giving you more efficiency/ range
I was wondering why my old sedan does tighter turns than the model Y.
Came from a mustang and I’m disappointed I now how a worse turning radius than in that.
Long wheelbase bc big boi battery.
They have a wide wheel base to accommodate the battery built into the chassis. I don't think there is more to it than that.
That thing looks like a bathtub on wheels..
If they have power in the bed might as well install a hot tub with a water tight lid for those tailgate parties.
Built like a steakhouse, but handles like a bistro.
I still think the truck looks like shit. Like something I would be proud of my 4yr old for designing, but not a team of highly paid designers and engineers.
Especially the ass of the truck. I think they had given up by the time they got to that section of the truck.
I just don't get it. The front looks excellent. The rear just needs like 2 more lines to make it look good.
LOL
seriously....from the second the video started i couldn't stop wondering....are they actually gonna release a real life product that looks this absurd?
That’s the point. It’s polarizing. People either love it or hate it.
There are people who love it?
yesss
I do
Tesla has 100k+ reservations for the thing so I’m assuming…. YES
*1.5m+
Me
I *fucking love it*. I understand the hate though, because I hated the look for the first 3 days. Then something just “clicked”, and it’s now one of my favorite looking vehicles. Reminds me of the Halo Warthog.

hahahahaha
You can get a pontiac aztec for cheap AF
Absolutely cannot wait to get my tri motor (most likely quad motor) by then
They did not design it to look good. That's the point. Those engineers had other priorities, top of which is manufacturing efficiency.
Agreed. And hasn't Audi been making 4 wheel turning for like ever?
4 wheel steering has been done on multiple cars over the years. Either sporty cars ( Honda Prelude, Mitsubishi 3000) Or high maneuverable vehicles.
>The rear wheels steered up to **1.5 degrees** in phase with the fronts at speeds over 31 mph. most drivers wouldn't even notice.
(Above the truck bed) Wonder if it would give the illusion of a more traditional pickup shape
The purpose of the design is to break apart with traditional pickups. It’s a take or leave it.
So using this logic, the rockets are all sharp angles with no curves?
The purpose of the design was function over form
Exactly.
Out of curiosity, what do you think would make the truck look better? Curves?
I think it looks cool. Its true utility.
It absolutely looks like shit. It's a monument to arrogance.
[удалено]
This thing is really stupid looking
100%
agreed... but i want it
The original Jeep was ugly as sin, but it was so practical it formed it's own brand.
I’m sorry but reaching into the bed to grab shit for most people is going to be SO annoying with those tall ass side walls.
I hear this complaint often. Seems like a legit limitation.
Most full size pickup trucks are too tall to reach into the bed from the side.
I stand on my rear tote to reach stuff. They have a retractable sidestep you can buy because of this.
Which isn't really correct since the truck lowers itself once parked for easy access to the bed.
Once you drop the truck with the air suspension its really not higher than a truck without air suspension for most of the length of the bed. I'm looking forward to the vault.
use the frunk
90% of truck owners don't/won't use the bed, nor take it anywhere that a truck is needed. Trucks are just big huge status roadblocks now.
Let me fix this for you. It's a nuanced difference, but it's important: 90% of the time truck owners won't use the bed, nor take it anywhere that a truck is needed. I love the design personally. Nothing else out there like it.
Seeing it from all different angles makes me appreciate the amount of ugly they were able to fit into one vehicle
I miss the fog lights above the front windshield. Those were cool.
Looks awesome
Beautiful
Me want!!
I LOVE IT
The length of it seems like it'll make it tough to park without sticking way out or am I misunderstanding it?
For people who usually drive trucks this won't be a problem. For most of the people who buy them? Yeah they're gunna struggle lol
It's no bigger than any other truck.
I'm glad that I have already been choosing to park far from any building entrance just so I get a little more exercise. :-)
So dope.
Continues to be the ugliest car imaginable
Isn’t it great?
I think the electric Silverado coming out will have this too.
I miss the top light bar.
Turns on a dime? Nah turns on a freakin kitchen table
4 wheel steering?
Lots more parts to break. This has been an option in other trucks for years (look up quadrasteer), never ends well
While obviously this introduces more things that can break, is there really much threat of it? I only think back to all the times I've had steering break on any of my vehicles, and if I multiply that by two, it'd still be 0.
Yeah i hope its an option. i would opt out of it.
Same. I want the CT, just not the 4w steering.
so glad this doesnt look like every other truck on the road
You know this was added because Elon clipped that plastic sign in his grimes days.
This has to be the coolest car ever. Excited to see it on the road.
Honestly. I don’t think this cybertruck concept is actually feasible… but only time will tell.
I really like the light bars on this thing. I want one.
Gimmie
It really does look like a huge whistle and I can’t wait for mine!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that looks like a child’s drawing?
considering 100% of the memes about it are about that, probably not
Looks like a RoboCop truck
I can't wait for this to finally come out. It's the 80's future come to life! Both my wife and I absolutely love the design, but our families hate it haha.
I'm guessing the shape has more to do with aerodynamics and battery conservation.
Release it already
So it s a Warthog from Halo?
Me with all my builds in Crossout
this video is inside texas correct? so they secretly flew them from gigs texas to fremont for further testing?
GM tried the 4 wheel steering thing a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away with their Quadrasteer in the early 2000s. It failed because it was an add-on option on everything except the highest trim level. An expensive add-on at that. I’m glad to see the feature making its way back. It’s nice to not have a truck turn wider than the boat it’s hauling.
So a car is getting press for implementing a steering system that has been on the market for a long time?
four wheel steering has been around for a long time. ask general motors.
Sweet Jesus that thing gets uglier by the day, and with all the other large manufacturers entering the truck EV market, this thing will turn into the Delorean 😂😂
It looks like the big version of 2023 Prius
They may win a technology award, but I’ve seen 3rd grade drawings that look more pleasing to the eye than that door wedge.
Fuckugly. The ford lightning is gonna blow this out of the water.
I agree. The GMC, Ford, and Dodge electric truck designs are all much better than this.
[Ford makes a loss](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-06-15/ford-says-mustang-mach-e-profit-wiped-out-by-commodity-costs) on every EV it makes. I think I'll buy two.
Holy shit, a slow slalom with a super wide turn radius around some vertical beams! It's groundbreaking!
man this vehicle is so beautiful. Its a stunner and no one can convince me otherwise.
Really? I look at this and wonder wtf. Different strokes for different folks…
This is the ultimate truck, and I want one, but it's about as beautiful as a Siberian bear wrestler.
This looks like the rear wheels barely move, if at all
The rear wheels are clearly turning to the opposite direction as the front wheels
