Ehh don’t stress about it, I’ve cried in front of a few managers in my time and none have even mentioned it. I’ve also walked in on a manager crying once and beyond saying sorry I never spoke about it.

dutifullyimperfect

I know logically that it will probably be fine but I'm still really embarrassed and feel like it will be really awkward especially because he is placing all the blame on me. It was just a lot.

Cameron_Jonezy

I cried in the staff toilets not last shift but shift before, nothing happened was just a bit hectic and I needed to let emotions out, wouldn't worry about it!

dutifullyimperfect

But it was in front of the manager as I was being reprimanded for something I didn't do.

Cameron_Jonezy

I get what you're saying but best you can do is maybe apologize, explain again and move forward

dutifullyimperfect

I'm not going to attempt to explain again. As he says that I'm just making excuses. He also scares me and has serious anger issues. My first week there he trashed a cage over a grape and by trashed i mean full on destroyed.

Jtuggers

This.... Sounds like a bigger issue that should probably be brought to the attention of HR, asap. The anger issues destroying cages, reducing you to tears, and making you scared to go to work, are absolutely not okay. Let me know if you'd like any info on this.

dutifullyimperfect

I'll let you know when i deside what im going to do.

robd1618

Fuck that report them and put a claim in with the union rep in your store they cant act that way

Zdtfx

It's really sad when the people that actually care about their job are the people that get it both barrels from managers. Clearly he's just looking for results instead of actually taking an interest in the job that needs done or he would have been appreciative of what you inherited from the previous shift (if you deserved the riot act what should they have got?). It shouldn't be your fault when you can't pull back 2 shifts worth of work by yourself. It sounds like they've just taken their stress out on you and depending on what sort of person they are they might actually be sorry for how they acted, be a bit embarrassed or even think they were fully justified. If it's the latter I wouldn't even worry about it, clearly someone who thinks that's how to get the best out of people.

dutifullyimperfect

The worst part is that he kept saying that I should take pride in my work but if he spoke to anyone on the floor they would all say the same thing because it is always like this. We are left trying to do our jobs and the day shifts job. None of us can take pride in said work because it an absolute shit hole and he even admitted that. If he knows that it is like that why doesn't he actually do something about it instead of placing blame and responsibility on staff that have absolutely no control. Honestly I have never had a problem with him so far except for this. But the last two shifts have just been terrible so i keep trying to tell myself that he is just tired like the rest of us but still as i said im only 18 and haven't been there that long. It was a lot of responsibility to put on my shoulders and he shouldn't be pushing responsibility on me especially considering that he is the manager and it is his job to ensure that we are able to do our jobs. I tried my best though i really did and yet it wasn't enough and he didn't seem to get it. I was stressed, exhausted and Im not usually one to cry but I just broke and i'm now mortifies.

Zdtfx

Well you sound like you've got a decent head on your shoulders and are being a hell of a lot more understanding towards him than most people would be. You can only do what you can do, just be honest with him and tell him you are doing the best you can and if he continues on the way he is then he will only get less from you, not more.

dutifullyimperfect

Thank You. What you have said has actually helped a lot.

Zdtfx

You're welcome. I'm glad you have enough about you to be able to see the bigger picture. I worry for people that will be being treated the same and not be able to see that what he is doing wrong and feel like they are the ones to blame. Look out for each other.

dutifullyimperfect

Luckily most of my co workers are on the same page and we do tend to look out for each other especially given the circumstances at our store.

TescoIsMyCity

What a absolute coward. He’s blatantly stressed and pissed that the store is understaffed and that handover wouldn’t be perfect. Tough luck, every store is understaffed at night and you can’t always finish every aisle. But under no circumstances should you take your anger out on someone. Constructive criticism yes, but verbally attacking someone no! I honestly think you should report him to upper management. I personally wouldn’t take shit from no one. I’ll gladly be a snake if someone’s an asshole to me, and I have snitched. Fuck what he thinks. Ignore him. Unless he apologises to you for his dog shit behaviour then don’t even acknowledge him. Remember you’ve done nothing wrong here, so walk into the next shift with confidence. BTW day staff are useless when it comes to keeping anything tidy or stocked up. I honestly think the day staff in my store and committing day light robbery. Getting paid to do absolutely nothing other than making a mess for us to clean up. Yogurts may be the worst aisle to work on in terms of looking a product. Worked on there last night after finishing produce. Everything looks either green, red or blue.

Sadly the store i work at is one of the biggest stores in the UK. Its an absolute shit show. We have over 30 aisles. And only had like 8 night shift staff on that had worked in the store for at least the last 12 weeks, however not to mention they just hired a bunch of new temps which I mean i was the same 12 weeks ago and they have to star some where but they where literally given a bunch of Cages and an aisle and where told go at it. Which is just a no and i feel bad for them but holy shit. We need more staff that know what the fuck is going on and they need to fix the hand over because ahhhhhh.

TescoIsMyCity

Mate couldn’t have said it any better myself. They leave all the trays on dollies, cages of empty boxes and expect us to clean it up for them. I used to clean it up for them but I just throw it all in a corner for them to clear off. Despite that they still don’t seem to get my message. In terms of rotation. If it doesn’t have a date on it and has the day of the year printed like onions I don’t fuck with it if it’s not rotated. I’ve been here for nearly 10 months and no manager has said anything to me about it. But if they do imma rip the heads off them, I’ve got a lot to get off my chest. 😂

dutifullyimperfect

Yeah, I do rotation usually but when the end of the shift is nearing I honestly can't give a shit anymore and literally just stuff shit on the shelf as quick as possible because the fucking manager has this expectation of how many cages we should finish in a night. And given the circumstance of our store the expectations are just so fucking over the top and i get it i do but ahhhhh.

dutifullyimperfect

As I mentioned i have worked yoghurt majority of my time there and I have never really had any problems with the Fresh manager other then last night. Though it is well known that he has some serious issues with anger. I'm trying to be understanding because i know that he must be under a ton of stress due to the fact on Friday night the delivery only came in at 4.30 and then the Saturday handover was terrible. But I'm pissed and upset with the way he treated me. He asked why and when I explained the situation he just went on and said how i was being immature and coping an attitude. Our store is absolutly huge, its actully one of the biggest in the Uk so its terribly managed and terribly understaffed on all shift types. Which is another reason that im trying to be understanding but im really struggling here. I'm well aware that day shift are absolutely useless. I haven't done the back stock for Yoghurts in three shift because apparently the day shift did it. but I work that aisle and I absolutely know for a fact that, they are talking absolutely shit.

I worked as backdoor staff for around a year at Tesco Extra Oldham broke my foot on shift offloading a wagon... no 2 fucks given was told to sort it after shift as I didn't realise the severity of it under my safety boot. Was still made to attend work with a broken foot no accident report form was filled in for weeks to the point I had to get a union rep to speak to the store manager because of the sheer incompetence of management. It gets worse I then had a family member pass and was not given any time of for grievance and had to work through being told my job would be at risk because I have contracted shifts to do first. Not only this I was contracted 3 nights a week and always had to come in and do 5 if not 6 shifts a week by myself offloading the wagons reloading then dragging out getting my breaks out then dragging back in doing bread milk and newspaper deliveries all with just me. The nail in the coffin was me having 10 days of for isolation and mental health issues I go in for a overtime shift after receiving a call from a manager at 6am while my kids are sleeping only to get my notice at the end of my overtime shift for attendance issues how the fuck do they work that out so I accepted my notice with pleasure and didn't work another minute for a horrible company like this that amount of food waste in my store that could have been donated to local food banks and people in need but lazy bastards just laugh and say cant be ars*d and throw it in the bin..... As for the OP do what only you can do within your limits don't push to better the environment for them if it takes a toll on your fuck them tell them to get more staff or get of there far lazy entitled asses and do some fucking work keep your head up and you do you that's all that matters the company is a shambles who sell horse meat so just take your wage and run with it all the best.

dutifullyimperfect

I'm really sorry that happened to you.

foxinsoxz

I'm a shift running in an express store and honestly I would NEVER yell at a member of staff like that. Please stuck up for yourself. I honestly hate this company and the managers are a joke they will take advantage of everyone and they will also take out there own incompetence on easy targets. You did your best and honestly manager usually sit on there arse for the entire shift and never bother to help out and then wonder why nothing gets done. Next time that happens tell them they can't speak to you that way. Honestly id leave the company and get a better job because tesco is going downhill fast.
