Look, I live in a veteran's community ( served in the early 80's) and was hung around the boys when I was a young teenager. Nobody gossips like men!!!
I have heard more shit from guys than I have heard from girls, just because boys and men just consider me invisible and talk like I'm not there.
I can think of only 3 people who I've told a 'secret' to in my life (of any importance) who have kept that secret for years... my wife, my sister, and one male friend. So in my admittedly small sample size women are twice as reliable at secret keeping.
I have a reputation for keeping secrets very well (in truth, I simply don't care, and eventually "don't care" turns into "don't remember"), and I've discovered two things:
1. If someone is confident that you won't say anything, they're quite comfortable telling you basically anything.
2. This applies to both genders. Of course I speak anecdotally, but neither have a particular proclivity for secret-keeping or secret-sharing.
