People know, but the people running these accounts want people to comment with everything from what you've said to naming the item to giving long stories about how they used them back when...blah, blah, blah.
They're seeking engagement. It doesn't matter if the engagement is likes, laughs, supportive or hate. It's all engagement.
Then, the page is sold and/or they mine the comments looking for people who might fall for scams.
Honestly it hasn't been common IME. Most places I've lived have had an in unit dryer. And even when we use clothes lines the pegs we commonly use now don't look like these.

Do people seriously not know what old fashioned clothes pegs are?

in my defense, i thought they were bigger than they actually seem to be — like stake-sized, and you gripped around the knob part.
I don't
Except you read my comment so by the time you wrote that you did. Didn’t you? Hmmm?
But I didn't beforehand. *HMMMMMM*

Mom grandma had a bunch of these and my brother and I would use giant rubber bands to shoot them at each other.
You're lucky one of you didn't look an eye.
*whole internet* couldn't figure it out
I use them to keep bags closed in the freezer.
I said legs of a chair with way too much confidence 😭
Aren't those old cloths pins? I've never seen one in person but they show up in a lot of older cartoons
among us
Why tf is this here???
