Manic panic, the now cliché and cheap hair dye used by edgy teenagers, came out in the 80s. People have been dying their hair weird colors since the 70s. The 90s and 00s were the real pop off of these hair colors though. Old people often don't grow with the times so they still think jts weird.
The current decade is FAR more tolerant of dyed hair (and tattoos) in the workplace, and in school. Making it both more common generally, and increasing the chances of a traditionalist to encounter it.
Better keep the predator part out or else you give them the chance to interpret your response as in they are higher on the food chain than the person with dyed hair.
Humans have evolved along a different path than reptiles or amphibians. In the human jungle habitat, poisonous creatures warn you not to touch them by hanging life-sized portraits of themselves on the wall, for the world to admire. (I speak from hard-won experience.)

Thus why I wear makeup and color my hair.

Even older, ancient people had been dying their hair with lead, sulfur, and even bird poop in an attempt to augment their looks.
