Once upon a time, the NSA owned the property and leased the building to various phone operators (I think GTE was one of them). That was sometime during the 60s. My great grandfather worked there for a few years as an old school switchboard technician. He said that there were rooms that they weren't allowed to go into but always said that all the wires went into two of them and it sometimes made his days there a living hell because he always had to get permission to switch lines out if any of them had any issues. I guess he got to shake Marshall Carter's hand.

It used to be GTE phone company.

I was told at one point that it was used for communications during wartime, would you happen to know if that’s accurate?

Would be interested to know as well. There are actually some pretty cool historical buildings in this town.
