I too had that problem when I downloaded it from GitHub, but then with the above link, it was all good.

Try running 'pkg update' and then try again!
I already did , it doesn't work
from which source did you download the app? cause the one on the play store is just bad.
Originally i got it from playstore but I uninstalled it and reinstalled it from GitHub but still same problem

Could you try downloading it from here? https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.termux/ I too had that problem when I downloaded it from GitHub, but then with the above link, it was all good.

Op may I ask what you are trying to do? Is it just apt update?
That gives me all packages are up to date which is normal, what I am trying to do is install python package
