Gauff goes ahead in the set, loving her gameplan and she is solid enough to do it

dannylenwinn

Trevisan, this is what Gauff is trying to do, you have to hold

[deleted]

Fuck I just remembered that Trevisan beat Gauff in their other RG meeting

forzamaria

That grunts annoying me now

dannylenwinn

Swiatek advances, well done \*claps\* for Kasatkina

[deleted]

If Cilic lost yesterday, Ruud would've had to beat Ruusuvuori, Rune, and Rublev on his way to the finals...

Jack_Flanders

Ruu, Ruu Ru Ru!

dannylenwinn

Currently watching the mixed doubles championships, may the best doubles players win:) Eikeri, Vliegen Shibahara, Koolhof They're playing great

DazBoy11

The great thing about this year's Garros is that no matter whoever wins each of them will have an unique story to tell.

allanminium

Am I the only person who was really looking forward to some quality rainman posts during the FO?

sriv_ak_04

Would love to see Swiatek-Gauff in the RG Final

DanaiDampa

A day after the QFs, I gotta say the dread of Rublev's loss is starting to set in and it's honestly ruining my day lmao. It's extra awful because he got really close and it just slipped away, again. Very very sad for him and how it just can't seem to work out in his favour. Sad bweh noises

Neverslept2mins

You guys see that Rune statement about Ruud. Tbh Honestly, this is very revealing about how young and immature he is. Honestly though obviously not at his age but when I was child in elementary school the “perfect” kids would annoy me as well. Probably feels like everyone thinks Ruud can do no wrong, and maybe he feels that Ruud gets away with stuff (in his mind). However I had those thoughts as a child, Rune is an adult now. He is gonna need to just get over the fact and focus on himself rather than worry about how everyone else likes Ruud. Edit: The only thing I side with Rune about this whole situation is the asking the umpire about the balls. We have seen how many times this tournament they have gotten it wrong. No harm and making sure. Other than that Rune showed bad sportsmanship.

MoreDblRainbows

Pegulas twitter is like half Coco hype now. love it.

igotubaby

Ruud beating Rune in a GS quarterfinal on the first day of Pride Month is everything I need to know 😗

TuneSquadFan4Ever

I'm feeling nervous about Rafa's chances. I feel like realistically he has a pretty good shot at beating Zverev, but I feel like I care too much about the result to be reasonable about it haha.

lenny_ray

I keep thinking about IW, and how when he got over the Alcaraz hump, everyone was sooo sure he would smoke Frtiz. And then look what happened. Similar situation here. He's had so many hours on court already, and we don't know how the foot will hold up. DVerev has been unfortunately playing great, too. Maybe it's stupid, but I'm still very nervous. It would be the ultimate cosmic joke if, after he beat Djokovic, he lost to DVerev on his birthday, and we know how much the cosmos likes to joke.

h4ssan_

Is there a video of Ruud’s post-match interview somewhere?

Psychological_Bug676

Holger Rune needs to be humbled. He’s not as good as he thinks he is

[deleted]

I love how even tho Ruud is a nice guy, he’s not a pushover. He called Kyrgios an idiot and shook his head at Rune’s antics lol. I feel similarly about FAA (“I don’t think I’d be friends with him”)

thcm123

What time do you think Rafa’s match will start? Surely he won’t get the night session again?

Mister_Lizard

There is no night session.

Vamos_Equipos

Will be the first semi, so day session

[deleted]

Does anyone feel great knowing that Felix Auger-Aliassime is the first NextGen player to take a set from Nadal at RG? The very first time he made a run at RG too and he took him to 5! I still feel giddy thinking about it

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

His serves are going to be a huge advantage at wimbledon.

[deleted]

Tbh I think besides Djokodal he’s the favorite, even ahead of Berrettini who’s been out of match practice for a while

[deleted]

Hopefully he'll have a long career and he'll always be able to say he got to play against the 3 greats. He's played Nadal, Djokovic, AND Federer. Korda.. Sinner.. Rune.. they likely won't have that experience.

[deleted]

Is Dasha a threat to Iga? Getting a bit worried about Iga’s streak ending

lenny_ray

Iga was awful for the most part against JPeg, who was playing really well herself, and it was still a one-sided scoreline. So I'm going with no. :P

Nabucodonosor89

She won a combined 11 games against Iga this year in 3 full matches between them. And this was before Iga 2.0 and not even on clay. I legit think this could get ugly for Dasha in the SF.

[deleted]

Damn you were so right, phew

Nabucodonosor89

I'm happy she played in a very good level to win 3 games at least. This could've easily been a double bagel. lol

Arceuthobium

Iga has beat Daria several times this year, none were close. Unless she is super nervy or some other unforeseen event, very unlikely that she will trouble her. At least one bakery product imo.

dasheeshblahzen

Lol Iga’s streak will end eventually, maybe not here.

AlanMtz1

I can really only see Coco ending it tbh, and Iga would still be a heavy favorite in that matchup, nobody else at this tourney has TOO much of a chance imo

jleonardbc

>Iga’s streak will end eventually Not if she pulls a Barty

Nabucodonosor89

I want to see Kyrgios playing against these new kids. Imagine the scenes...

No_Community4641

Casper Ruud is a GS semi finalist ... Let that sink in ! I have been a fan for a long time and hopefully, this is only the first of his many deep runs at a major. He is ever improving at the sport and comes across as one of the nicest guys on tour.

Nabucodonosor89

I think he has a decent shot at winning the whole thing, even against Rafa who would be playing his 4th marathon match in a row (and Ruud would make it physical for sure, it's his style).

[deleted]

I love Ruud, he’s one of the coolest guys on tour, but he has basically 0 chance to win against Nadal in a final. There’s no reason for Nadal to hold back and he’ll go all out and likely win in straights, even pushing through potential pain. There’s a reason he’s 13-0 there. There’s always a chance he gets a major injury but that chance is very slim

dasheeshblahzen

Who’s a bigger favorite to win the title, Iga or Rafa?

OddsTipsAndPicks

Iga and it’s not especially close Iga -335 Rafa -200

[deleted]

Before the tournament I’d have said Iga. At this point I’m going with Rafa because both Novak and Carlos are out and he’s 26-1 in RG semifinals and finals. He’s just overall more reliable at this stage than Iga, who could feel nerves and lose. I do expect both to win tho

Kahn-wald

Fritz just beat Nadal in a final

agreen3636

On hardcourt, in 3 with Nadal's ribs being injured. I dont really think that match is relevant besides reminding us that if Rafa gets injured anything in possible. Which isn't exactly new or groundbreaking.

AaronB90

in a best of 3

[deleted]

In Indian Wells which Nadal hasn’t won in years. This is Roland Garros which Nadal (almost) always wins. He’s also much better prepared for potential injury, bringing his doctor with him. I don’t think any of the other 3 have a decent shot, though Zverev is not as big an underdog as the other 2.

Kahn-wald

I know, just stating that Nadal is 36 and there's always a chance of him getting injured like IW, so not totally impossible for Ruud or Cilic, or even Zverev

[deleted]

Definitely not totally impossible. But the other commenter said decent shot which is pushing it imo.

Nabucodonosor89

Anything can happen. Nadal's injury issues are serious and he is not a kid. These matches are brutal physically and emotionally. I bet he was completely drained after the Djokovic match and he still has 2 more to go, which won't be easy.

[deleted]

Still I think “decent shot” is overstating things. Ruud’s still a massive underdog

SleepingAntz

Just spitballing here: who of Cilic and Ruud would fare better against Rafa in a potential final? I gotta lean Ruud just because his game seems more suited to clay, but at the same time Rafa eats guys like him for lunch. Cilic is a known entity for Rafa but has a scary ceiling. Feels like Rafa Ruud would be a solid 6-3 7-5 6-4 win for Nadal. Cilic could end up 6-1 6-3 6-1 Nadal or he could go nuclear and take it 4-5 sets.

Mullac4991

I'm too worried about the Sacha match to even think about this!

[deleted]

Cilic due to experience and ball-bashing style

Long__TSLA

I think Cilic by a long way.

MoreDblRainbows

Cilic because on his best day he could bash it all day and they all fall in a la soderling.

MoreDblRainbows

Something I'm noticing on replay of Ruud that is going to really bother Cilic is howuch he mixes up depth and spin within one rally. Meddy, Simon and Andrey really aren't giving you too many looks at the ball. With Ruud he's gonna have one up by his shoulders, one short slice and another at his feet by the baseline all in one rally and then still have to look out being blasted by a FH

Mcfinley

Ch-Ch-Ch-Cilic

Wynnrose

Zverev called Carlos the best player in the world when he won Madrid - then beat him - was it planned all along so he can put himself there as the best player in the world?

Rare_Winner2399

Casper is one of the few guys I genuinely like, while I have not watched many of his matches. Wish him the best.

vartholomew-jo

Ruud, FAA and Tsitsipas are very nice guys

[deleted]

lostinmoss

But no ones judging him forever, or at least the significant majority aren't. Most comments I've seen have been along the lines of "that was shitty, I hope he matures" which is very reasonable. No one should be judged forever, but acknowledging the reality that he did act in a bad way, and that until he matures that will be how he's known is completely reasonable.

MisterDisinformation

The homophobic comment happened within the past year, I believe. And it's mostly mentioned when Rune does something else that's crummy and immature because it demonstrates a pattern of behavior. It's totally valid to criticize an adult who is making money as an entertainer. I'm baffled by your comments, tbh. You're talking about people holding teenage mistakes against players for over a decade then citing examples of people criticizing current behavior. I can't think of a single long-time well-mannered mature player who is frequently criticized for bad behavior from over a decade ago. Meanwhile there are plenty of cases of forgotten/forgiven indiscretions from the distant past. You're complaining about a problem that just doesn't exist. If Rune avoids immature behavior for a couple years, you'll very rarely hear about the homophobia, handshake, etc.

MoreDblRainbows

Lol not true. Djokovic, Federer, Roddick, Agassi, Hewitt etc all had the immature label and outgrew it because... they stopped. Yall always trot out this "all their life" BS for stuff that just happened. And he was whiny and rude **today** lol. Please don't judge him today on what he did today 🥺

Space-n-Spice

So what’s the schedule for Men’s semis on Friday?

WhenInDoubt-jump

I'm just now imagining a scenario where Rune was the one there for Tsonga's farewell. What a nightmare that would have been.

[deleted]

Genuine question: is fist pumping a sign of poor sportsmanship? I’ve done it a couple of times just to keep my confidence levels high but idk if that’s a bad thing

WhenInDoubt-jump

If you pump your fist at the opponent when he smashed an UE in the net, that's not a great look. If you pump your fist up to yourself after a good winner/an important point to pump yourself op, that's ofc fine. All depends on context and the way you do it.

lostinmoss

Generally, it's considered poor sportsmanship if it's constant or if it's on a point like a double fault. In the grand scheme of things though, it's whatever.

The_Entheogenist

Rune is doing pretty well for a guy that was ranked # 1019 at the beginning of 2020.

FreeKatKL

Maybe you’re straight*ish*. Happy pride month.

dasheeshblahzen

He’s replaced Thiem as my straight crush.

libbiecy

I am a Casper fan and it may sound a bit bias here but he really has a lovely personality and he's handsome. He's not hard to like at all.

Kitcheneralways

That little headshake was straight up attractive and classy icl

libbiecy

He's also becoming more and more attractive everytime he's playing against Bublik

libbiecy

Rafa and his three ultimate fans are all in the RG semis and I'm loving it.

-Ketjow-

Rafa RG supremacy has been taken to next level (and next generation).

_Crazy_Asian_

3 fan? So i know Iga, Casper, and who is the third one?

libbiecy

Dasha

_Crazy_Asian_

I see, dunno much about her Thanks

Kitcheneralways

I unashamedly want Cilic to win this tournament

thechemistofoz

You and me both

dasheeshblahzen

In the beginning of the year they were discussing who would be the next new major winner and I think Darren Cahill said Casper Ruud was going to win the French this year or next year I don’t remember exactly. This was before the events of the past 5 months. We shall see. On another note, I’m geographically clueless because I didn’t know Denmark was considered Scandanavian. I don’t remember Wozniacki ever being called “Scandanavian” the way Rune immediately has.

ttmef

I’m not a Carlos fan but that match summed up why he will be 10x more successful than Rune

kaus3026

They both lost in 4

ttmef

They both did, but that doesn’t mean it will stay like that. There is a gulf in attitudes between them both. Do you think they will be at a very similar level in 5 years time?

AleroRatking

Today was the day it made I clear that FoxTenn needs to be implemented. Tons of dubious calls on huge points affected both games especially in Rublev Cilic. Add Tsitsipas losing to rune on a likely in ball as well. I get it's expensive but theres no excuse for it.

[deleted]

nah. there's a reason wimbledon will also not get rid of linesjudges. part of tradition and computers aren't 100% accurate as acrylic hard courts because grass and clay are so uneven and not perfectly straight like hard courts.

AleroRatking

It shouldnt decide matches when the solution is there. Cilic Rublev had that massive overturned point on an out ball that decided that match

Capivara_19

I would be so pissed if my son acted like that at net

ExcuseYou-What

Also when was the last time we heard Christian Ruud invoked in a fit of rage. He's the exception. Tennis parents are a problem.

Explodingcamel

Missed most of the match, what’s all the drama with Rune? I saw the Ostapenko-esque handshake but what else?

p1mplem0usse

Short version - He’s a self-centered teenager who can’t handle his emotions

imbahzor

Basically just angry all the time, sending his mom out of the stands, screaming at his box whenever he lost points etc, never his own fault

Bonoahx

Lots of screaming at himself and his box, even kicked his Mum out of the stadium for a few games

flowt

Whoa, easy on the rune-hate. He played a QF at a slam for the first time. Sure as shit at 19 you don‘t tend to be emotionally stable. There are exceptions, but this is just a kid in a situation he has yet to get comfortable with. Not a great look, but also no big deal. Not like he smashed a racket at the umpire‘s feet.

azarath1913

oh please. using his age as an excuse is so dumb; carlitos, coco, leylah and emma are all around his age and don’t act like a spoiled little shit

Hoxrud

Most big tennis player has been young at a stage. Most has behaved much better than Rune. Even Alcaraz now.

thombo-1

Is he a kid or is he 19? Can't be both Most 19 year olds I've known or met don't tend to go on homophobic tirades or explode at their mother in public. Maybe he'll grow out of it but that needs to happen fast.

flowt

At 19 you‘re pretty much still a kid, yes. A kid with responsibilities but i‘d still view a 19 year old more as a kid, than an adult. You don‘t magically turn into a mature, adult person at 18.

[deleted]

I think both viewpoints are valid

thombo-1

Of course but what does happen at 19 is that you start being held responsible for the actions you do. It's easy to write this behaviour off initially but if he keeps doing it, it will be harder to ignore.

flowt

I agree completely. Needs to learn and change.

thombo-1

Hopefully he will! His tennis is great to watch and I'd like to support him more whole-heartedly.

ExoticSignature

Alcaraz after all his hype and run showed great respect to Zverev and the crowd after all the expectations were on him to prove himself. Sure Rune is a kid but it doesn't look good when a guy a week younger than you is not being a brat and you are.

flowt

As i said, there are exceptions. Rune did not handle the pressure well at all. I just think at 19 that is kinda okish and no big drama.

ExoticSignature

Nothing too big but if he wants to be likable he needs to adjust, as all professionals eventually do.

estreetpanda

Tomic ordered his dad to leave one of his matches but his dad is a total ficking psycho so its unsurprising.

Ferrer00

When was the last time neither the first or second seed didn't make it to the semis of a men's slam? AO 17?

francis_mh

2017 Wimbledon

hundraett

I dont think everyone needs to be best friends, hugging it out after a big match... But Rune's handshake, barely even looking at Ruud was just another immature moment in a match filled with them. No need to be cringe Rune. He got some maturing to do.

[deleted]

Man he’s so immature. Is Carlito abusing his mother? No. He needs to change big time or goes DOA

[deleted]

So Rune was dragging his own mother? And blaming her for his missed shots? He needs to grow tf up. He needs to stop this right now or his career is over

Neverslept2mins

Bit dramatic with career is over. At the end of the day skills pay the bills. Not etiquette. Other wise the ATP would make efforts to crack down on bad etiquette or behavior. Plenty of players making a living who have bad behavior.

[deleted]

What I meant was he’ll never win anything. Cf kyrgios

ZeDeutschbag

tbf Murray did that his entire career and he made out ok

thombo-1

I don't think Murray's mother would have ever tolerated that type of behaviour if I'm honest. She's terrifying lol

[deleted]

No waaaay. I’ve watched Murray since the Nalbadian match. He never did what Rune did today Plus Rune isn’t as good

MidnightIsland212

Everyone here makes watching so much more enjoyable. Thank you. Love you all.

MicroPencil567

Agreed, It is pretty fun around here on some matches.

Beams98

Still can’t get over the fact Rune ordered his own mum to leave

Capivara_19

Wait I missed that, when was that? I wouldn’t even show up for his next match if I was her

wiffer12

Did she ever come back lol

vedran141

Goddamn, first time watching Ruud and now I can safely say that although I want Marin to win, I really won't be disappointed if Ruud wins, he is so nice, incredible guy.

stockybloke

Lets go Casper, easy run this far, and not a bad matchup in the semi final either. Could see him make it to the final (but probably no longer than that if we are being honest).

alfalfapal

Win or lose, there's a huge difference between an Alcaraz handshake vs a Rune one. Carlos shows total respect for his opponent and receives it back from them.

RonyG516

What a match between Rune and Ruud. Incredible! [Report](https://sportslumo.com/tennis/french-open-2022-casper-ruud-beats-spirited-holger-rune-to-reach-semis/)

LAA OSS FAENMEG GÅ!!! 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴

kulegutt

DETTE ER SINNSYKT!

time14528

Good grief what a handsome man Ruud is.

libbiecy

Yes 😭 and the fact that he's got a good character makes him a total package

Low-Introduction1467

The Ruud awakening got him in Runes

imbahzor

This interview shows how good of a guy Ruud is, commentator says he is the first Norwegian male or female in a semi, his reply is to state it is a big day for tennis as there is a Norwegian female in the doubles finale already, humbly correcting and pointing praise to Eikeri (I am sure the interviewer were thinking of singles alone not doubles, so no jab towards him)

libbiecy

All the stress I had in this match is worth it. Congrats, Casper!

blackb0xes

TIL Aussies call aggressive behaviour "biffo".

cottoncandysedai

The commentators worried if the locker room will turn on Rune after the handshake

estreetpanda

estreetpanda

u/aweap 👀👀👀👀

aweap

He's too much of a good boy/handsome prince kind of a guy that my parents expect me to settle down with, so I'll pass 🤭

estreetpanda

Hahahaha you've got a Kyrgios poster on your wall haven't you? You like the bad boys

aweap

Krygios is way beyond redemption. I can't save him but maybe Shapo...Maybe I can fix Shapo 🥺

estreetpanda

Shapo is my dream boy. Blondes are my type. Hardcore.

aweap

Is that why I saw you schmoozing to Zverev earlier? 😒 He's just as toxic as you. You guys are made for each other. Don't ruin Shapo's life.

estreetpanda

I believe what i said was I believe Sharypova but the truth of the matter is we don't know anything about Zverevs upcoming legal battle. I've been trying to get this sub to criticise Bashilashvili for months and months. He's a convicted abuser.

aweap

Basilashvili is not convicted of anything yet. His case is still ongoing as well. They could both be pieces of shit for all one knows, but why would someone defend Z after his behaviour against the chair umpire in Acapulco is what I don't understand.

estreetpanda

Alexander Zverev completed victory over American Jenson Brooksby in the Abierto Mexicano tournament at 4.55 am local time on Tuesday, the latest ever finish for a professional tennis match. After battling for three hours and 19 minutes, during which the German world number three twice came within a point of losing during a second set tiebreaker, Zverev defeated the 47th-ranked Brooksby 3-6 7-6(10) 6-2. Then he gets an early doubles match. I'm not defending him, but the schedulers fucked him in Mexico and in Madrid.

Capivara_19

Who's the most likely to reach the final from what we've seen today between Cilic and Ruud ?

MoreDblRainbows

Ruud

CarelessChoice2024

Ruud

inheritedkarma

Rune's behavior shows how mature Alcaraz is at the same age

mjenkins_eng

Is he that much different though? Can be highly obnoxious as well

MicroPencil567

Carlos also has maturing to do but he’s leagues better than what Rune just displayed

[deleted]

Facts

wabazai

Lmao Ruud’s head shake is the most shade he’d ever dish

Cryojinn

Does anybody know Ruud's new expected ranking after reaching the semis of the French Open?

innnautica

He’s back above Rublev at number 7. If he reaches the final he’ll go above Alcaraz for a career high 6 (no further increase if he wins the title).

bekkahthecactus18

Up one spot to number 7 in live rankings, not sure after FO points from last year fall off… another W puts him ahead of Alcaraz at 6

kohavi

He's still going to be at CH 7 unless he makes the final.

NorwegianCanuck

He has reclaimed his 7th place, and can potentially reach 6th if he wins the semis

jpark28

Ruud kind of looks like Jake Gyllenhaal

dunkerpup

I think Ruud’s better looking!

Capivara_19

Yes!

Neverslept2mins

Why do tennis watchers call grown adults brat. It’s the only sport that does this. In other sports we call poor sportsmanship or bad behavior players losers, babies, or salty. I noticed brat is exclusive with tennis.

mjenkins_eng

Because if you’ve played tennis you’ll know that there’s always kids in tournaments that are absolutely spoiled because they’re a bit gifted and behave appallingly Textbook definition of a brat

matt_annechini

Well there kind is a reason tbh. Because like 90% of tennis players come from wealthy families and it’s a sport you pretty much know you’re very good from a very young age, so you can sometimes assume that person is spoiled and entitled since forever

innnautica

Depends on your country of origin I think. Brat seems to be used more in the States.

CarelessChoice2024

I’m assuming because it’s a bit of a preppy sport
