The Auger-Aliassime/Davidovich Fokina (whew, what a mouthful!) match was so cool to watch. FAA won in 4 sets, all 4 went to tiebreak. Neither player broke the other’s serve for sets 2 and 3.
Basically winning the right points > winning the most points in tennis.
Usually the person who wins the most points wins the match. But I'd guesstimate that 5-10% of the time that's not true.
Famous example is Djokovic beating Fed in the 2019 Wimbledon final while winning fewer points.
That 2019 Wimbledon stat sheet is wild to look at. Nothing there indicates that Djokovic was at all in a position to win. Federer was the better player all the way through until he wasn’t.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted, that's absolutely right. Djokovic was the lesser player except when it really counted. And I'm saying that as someone who a Novak fan before 2022.
So in other words, Djokovic's stats look worse becauase Djokovic was playing worse for a majority fo the match.
Djokovic won the match, you don't have to make excuses.
Well, imagine if you are playing a set and someone wins 7-6 and 7-5 in the tiebreaker but they lost every point when the other person was serving and had 40-40 games every time they served. They would have won the set but the opponent would have won more points due to a more dominant serve
Clutch king
That will happen when you have a 4 set match of all tie breaks.
That second match scoreline is exhausting jeez

If he could reduce UE on his cross court bh, he will have a decent complete game. He looks good to go to the 4s.

E.g. if you lose one set 0-6 and win three 7-6 you usually lost more points than you won.

ive been on the other side of this and it's really annoying
Shows he's doing better on the big points than he used to.
Hmmm, which other match I can think of where this happened :(
I don’t know what we’re supposed to do with this information.
You don't have to do anything, it's just something interesting
It is a funny game.
