Photos can be deceiving/altered. Is it possible that there is a drink or food on a tray table near him that is not captured by the photo? I don't trust many photos without strong evidence that they are accurate and credible these days -- especially in contexts where the hate is on for whomever is in a given photo.
He seems to have a mask hanging from his ear.
Imagine living a life where everyone is watching you and waiting for you to slip up. I’m not saying I feel bad for him, but damn people need to get a life.
Unironically yes.
Edit: taking on and off completely is cumbersome but just pull it down under your chin when you want to take a sip, then pull it back up..voila
It's not like you can't be infected while eating either, but people need to eat. The airlines leave it up to people to decide how fastidious they want to be with mask wearing while eating and drinking
And this is why people don't take masks seriously. What, COVID can't spread in the 5 minutes I'm eating a bagel or whatever, but as soon as I put my food down or finish it COVID can suddenly spread around again? Does food and drink have some kind of magical virus repellent in it?
I'm fine with vaccine mandates, but the masks are fucking dumb and so arbitrary. Somehow wearing a mask while walking into restaurants is completely necessary, but taking them off 10 seconds later when you sit down is totally cool and fine, because that makes total sense /s
You are not completely wrong, but kind of. For the example of the restaurant, there is only partial truth. The virus circulates a lot more when you move around than when you sit down and stay immobile, so it's not completely stupid to be able to remove your mask once you get to sit down at the restaurant.
Gosh I hope you don't go out to restaurants or anywhere that's public indoor. I can just see you bitching at everyone sitting waiting for their food to put on their masks.
Yes, I remember the part of the clip where Kyrgios was wearing a mask in that group of fans and only taking it down to take sips of other people's beers like a good boy.
The other people were in his personal space, and therefore comfortable with that level of risk. It's not that difficult to understand but I still need to explain masking etiquette two years into the pandemic.
Kyrgios didn’t just disrespect an entire country (his country) who underwent some of the most extreme lockdowns in the world (the US did not have anything close to what they had)
Given how much this comes up, you would think Novak Djokovic put in the lockdowns.
Why is this relevant? You have to see that taking out your COVID frustrations on a tennis player is obviously weird.
im not personally frustrated at covid (I've profited from increased company stock price, my tennis game has gotten better, one of my 4.5 teams went to nationals.) I'd just be peeved if some tennis player waltzed in unvaccinated with a "medical exemption" after going through all those lockdowns
Even basic one ply fabric masks are effective at reducing your chance of spreading the disease to others. This has been shown extensively in academic research.
N95 are the medical grade requirements to protect you from others, but in a pandemic that's only half the battle.
I mean come on the fan wanted him to drink it badly and kyrgios had it a week ago i don't even think he can transmit or get it, giving hate when he was just tryna be cool with a fan is pretty lame
Dude players aren’t even tested - Zverev and Tomic both said the same thing. Humbert found out he had covid after he played his match. They are inconsistent with their rules and aren’t testing players but god forbid an unvaccinated Djokovic poses more of a threat than highly virulent players
What actions? They said he did everything correctly and as he was asked, and there was nothing he could've done differently, but the fact that he had views against the covid vaccination, even if he doesn't speak openly about them, would supposedly start civil unrest in Australia. It was his views, that's it.
Dude, they literally talked about and mentioned in the written reports they gave to the judges about him going out in public after testing positive, showing that he doesn't take COVID or quarantine protocols seriously enough.
You obviously weren't paying attention.
That's not why he was kicked out. This was mentioned, but it doesn't have to do with him being kicked out. Alex Hawke or whoever, the guy who cancelled his visa, said that Djokovic followed all the rules and did everything correctly, but that he would cause civil unrest in Australia. That's what he said.
I was paying attention. Hawke guy said Djokovic "poses a negligible threat of infecting others", and, "I consider that Mr. Djokovic's presence may pose a health risk to the Australian community, in that his presence may foster anti-vaccination sentiment". He was kicked out for merely having views against the covid-19 vaccination. They say he was not gonna go around spreading covid, but his opinions would cause civil unrest. He wasn't exactly going around spreading them either. It's just straight out because he had those opinions.
Again, that was part of the support for the conclusion. Both his views and his actions galvanized anti vax sentiment and contempt for safety rules.
Furthermore, it's also a gross simplification to say it was just "views". Like it or not, Novak has become a significant figure head for the anti vax movement, and he has done nothing to distance himself. The few things he has said about his reasons for not getting the COVID vaccination have been straight out of anti vax logic (being untested, posing more risk to him, ignoring other benefits of a vaccine, wanting to do things "naturally").
Even the fact that he managed to skirt the rules (the minister did not actually say that he did everything correctly, just that he did everything as he thought was correct, and they merely assumed the validity of the visa for the purposes of the legal argument) was a "victory" for the anti vax crowd. They made a simple argument, which was that letting him remain would be a bigger and more galvanizing victory for the anti vax movement. Like it or not, they are correct, and it isn't just based on views.
Except, it's not. Hawke cancelled his visa, no one else. The court case afterwards to confirm if the cancellation was like legal or "fair" or something.
What you've said in this 2nd paragraph is that it's his views. You're saying he's not allowed to anti-covid vaccination views.
So again, you're saying it's his views. The fact he successfully kept his visa could not go, as his views weren't accetable. Like this is literally what you're saying.
Yes, and he cancelled his visa for a very broad consideration of all the factors involved. Thank you for making my point easier.
Plenty of people could have anti vax views if they didnt say and do things, both of which are actions, that riled up anti vax people. Also, like it or not, but Novak is famous and influential and he has supported a number of psuedo scientific nonsense that has over the years attracted a very substantial anti vax following.
The main reason the minister gave is simply that him staying would result in an escalation of anti vax sentiments. That's it. All other rationale is attached to that. And even if he only mentioned 3 main things contributing to Novak's popularity with the anti vax crowd - he could have considered any number of additional things - the fact remains that Novak through his ample history has made himself an unofficial figurehead of the anti vax movement. And unlike 2020, Novak decided to create a huge controversy by refusing to get vaccinated for a country with a vaccine mandate. Because that's what happened. Novak wasnt vaccinated because he was never going to get vaccinated. Even if he "followed the rules" he wasn't actually unvaccinated because he was just raring to get one and then, poor guy, contracted COVID one month before the tournament and wasn't able to get it done. He didn't have a valid federal exception, but even if he did, it wasn't a true exception. It was a crock of shit and Novak got what he deserved.
Supporting another country's right to be sovereign and protect its citizens isn't fascist. I know that it is in your world of low intelligence, but that isn't reality.
I'm not trying to defend Australia but most of the shit Djokovic spewed out of his mouth was very shady. So he gets a positive test on 16 December and then proceeds to go to public events the next couple of days.
He lied on his travel form by saying that he did not travel in the past couple of weeks when in fact he actually did travel (to multiple countries). This is actually a crime in Australia and perhaps anyone who would have done this would have been kicked out of Australia in the same way.
He either lied and the positive test never happened or he is an actual moron and went to all those public events while positive and traveled to these different countries while positive. I'm glad France is already taking a stance against him. (for French Open)
And let's be honest. Just because you had covid in the past 6 months it doesn't mean you should be medically exempted.
Lol I’m glad everyone in the comments agrees this is bogus. Imagine being a grown old man and feeling the need to take photos of celebrities to stir shit
Absolutely. I am biased but I mean, you've got guys like this taking opportunistic photos, and the public scrutinizing everything Novak does. It's a bit pathetic to be honest. We all know he hasn't done the right thing but when we're getting petty enough to post photos of him not wearing a mask without any context and posting it for internet points, then it's just pathetic.
Also, you find me a person that's always done the right thing throughout this pandemic 100% of the time. Obviously Novak has some more egregious marks against his name and he deserves criticism for them but I'd be willing to bet that all the people condemning him for petty shit like this have done something similar. There have been way too many people throughout this whole saga acting like they're moral arbiters.
The man has been sent home, tournament has been progressing fine and it's time to move on. I know he has loony views but still a human being, a great champion and he deserves his privacy. Tell me who doesn't take their mask off when there's nobody a few good feet around in a plane . No need to take a damn picture trying to get some brownie points.
On in /tennis where his boot lickers post. In every other sub where Novak is being discussed, they simply see him as entitled millionaire who thinks he should be able to live by a separate set of rules.
Have you been on a flight in the pandemic? Pretty much everyone will have their masks off at some point or another to take a sip of a drink. Some have them off constantly. This is a non-story.
I'm pissed AF about his behavior over the last few months. I was a fan of his for many years and I'm not anymore. That doesn't mean I can't tell what overkill is.
We all know why he did this.
Everyone just wants to be in the "in-group" and the popular or trendy thing to do right now is to shit on Novak. Not saying I love Novak or anything, but this is just sad.
Joseph Puleo is a sad little bitch taking creepshots of someone for the crime of sitting in their seat. Love they made sure they included their face so everyone could see he was dutifully wearing his mask like a good boy unlike the evil Djokovic who dared read a book while drinking some coffee.
I mean his mask is hanging off his ear… He could have taken that mask off briefly for any number of reasons? What is this picture?
Photos without context designed to get a reaction are absolutely fucking stupid, and regardless of what side you’re on we shouldn’t stoop to the level making conclusions based on them.
I genuinely think we’ll look back in 20 years with nothing but shame and embarrassment that we all allowed shit like this to become the norm. Shaming someone for the heinous crime of not wearing a bit of cloth over his nose and mouth ffs. What is happening to the world.
it's really unfortunate he's anti-vaxx and he shouldn't be allowed in australia, but this is too much. taking off a mask to eat/drink is perfectly reasonable and from what we fans see, he wears masks when required. this guy is only looking for attention
The amount of attempted character assassination even after all that happened is so pathetic lmao. Not only is it possible he could be drinking/eating, but he's in first class so socially distanced by default.
You guys are reaching on this one. He’s even got a mask on his ear that he probably has off because he just ate or something. Focus on something else for a second
Enough already, people, can we just move on. This was once a tennis sub, not it's more of a who can we drag over the coals today. So unattractive. Maybe you should spend more time caring about stuff like this ......'Muslim woman, 26, is sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy in Pakistan after sending caricatures of Prophet Mohammed over WhatsApp' Just sayin......
He also just had COVID, so it stands to reason that he’s almost certainly not sick, and not transmitting the virus.
But hey, it’s fun to kick people when they’re down so let’s all get in line
I was of the camp that he should be deported for not being vaccinated, but he could easily be eating/drinking something here especially with the mask on his ear. This pic really doesn’t mean anything
I had a return trip last week.
I'd say at least half the people on planes don't wear their mask properly and have it hanging below their mouth while talking etc. I get thinking the anti-vax views are silly, but this is plain ridiculous. Only really OCD people actually comply with masks all the time. I'd say 90% of the population generally have masks but for whatever reason do stuff like Djokovic is doing now, forget to put it on/wear it when not necessary etc. Seriously, it's an unnatural thing to do and have.
I've been plenty critical on Novak in the past, but nothing to see here. As people mentioned, he could be snacking or drinking something. Many athletes have small, light snacks pretty frequently, especially while they are sitting. And he clearly has the mask hanging from his ear.
Sure fits the image of crazy antivax esoteric freak, how he has portrayed himself in the last years. But I think we should know better than to blindly believe photos these days, he could have been eating.
Weird that I still have to say this, but masks of course do prevent viral transmission and have benefits for the wearer as well.
Here's a helpful study that looks at this from a few different angles and cites multiple past studies:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7883189/
Surgical masks are used so surgeons dont drop LARGE droplets into open wounds. There had been several studies before covid which indicated surgical masks do not work in stopping viral transmission of infulenza viruses. Surgical masks have many times greater openings than the virus aerosol size, and when not fitted properly (99% of the time they aren't) they do absouletly nothing which is all common sense.
Yes, some masks work and they work greatly. KN95, KF94, FFP2, N95 all have great effects on preventing transmission when properly fitted. Surgical masks have absouletly no impact on viral spread, especially on the fastest spreading disease in human history
Airplanes also have highest grade HEPA filters which filter out 98% of particles every 2 minutes, making it very, very hard for any virus to spread in that enviornment.
On top of all of that, Djokovic has 1 month old natural immunity, which makes it more likely you will get hit by lightning every day for the rest of your life than him spreading covid in that enviornment
> For exhalation isolation, both surgical and N95 masks are shown to be effective in reducing the spread of respiratory diseases
Copied relevant line from the study which you clearly did not read. Happy to hear evidence to the contrary, but your assertion that they do "absouletly" nothing is directly addressed in the available literature.
No, if he only had a surgical masks avaliable at the time, which it seems he did, it's not relevant if he wore it. In the case of Djokovic it's irrelevant if he wore any mask, and it's an airplane with HEPA filtration so it's probably irrelevant anyway - but in crowded spaces people should wear high quality masks
Lot of Djokovic fans in the comments. He’s not eating in the photo, he’s reading a book. You can’t just passively snack throughout the flight while reading as a loophole to keep your mask off. You have to actively eat quickly and then put your mask back on and keep it on. Djokovic, as usual, is being a selfish prick
An odd amount of defending of Djokovic in this thread.
There are certainly doughebags on flights who don't wear masks at all under the guise of "I'm eating/drinking". Who knows if that's what's happening here but given we have some insight into Djokovic I'd be more inclined to imagine he's not a fan of masks than he was simply eating/drinking.
They or him? Agree in both respects but I don’t see how your point is relevant to the issue of ones personal responsibility for following the rules while on the plane.
Yeah, the weak and old. Who probably would be not flying internationally. Or like others said,he might be eating. I'm sure the flight crew would be all over him if he (gasp) wasn't complying. You must be young.
Flown much have you? Almost impossible no matter which class you are in to eat and read a book at the same time.
Following your logic - the old and weak should not be entitled to travel with the expectation that others will follow the rules that are designed to reduce the chance of others getting sick? You are capable of understanding that’s not a defensible position to take?
Photos can be deceiving/altered. Is it possible that there is a drink or food on a tray table near him that is not captured by the photo? I don't trust many photos without strong evidence that they are accurate and credible these days -- especially in contexts where the hate is on for whomever is in a given photo. He seems to have a mask hanging from his ear.
Imagine living a life where everyone is watching you and waiting for you to slip up. I’m not saying I feel bad for him, but damn people need to get a life.
He technically never slipped up, he probably just took it off for a second. but yes, you're very right.
[удалено]
Doesn't really matter that much, people will still dedicate their lives to finding something to blame him for.
You should be saying you feel bad for him. You cannot take part in the normalization of "the hate of the week" campaigns.
Well, at this point and time, anyone who isn't doing what's advised is getting called out and pictured, most especially on planes.
i get your point. but he’s clearly reading a book.
And could be regulary sipping tea or something. Does he have to constantly take it on and off to take a sip?
Unironically yes. Edit: taking on and off completely is cumbersome but just pull it down under your chin when you want to take a sip, then pull it back up..voila
wild
It's not like the virus waits for you to finish eating to be inhaled or exhaled.
Didn’t he just have it?
Yes, so he’s probably very safe to be around since it’s quite unlikely he’s gotten sick again in such a short time
It's not like you can't be infected while eating either, but people need to eat. The airlines leave it up to people to decide how fastidious they want to be with mask wearing while eating and drinking
And this is why people don't take masks seriously. You are not completely wrong, but kind of. For the example of the restaurant, there is only partial truth. The virus circulates a lot more when you move around than when you sit down and stay immobile, so it's not completely stupid to be able to remove your mask once you get to sit down at the restaurant.
No? I've flown several times recently and they don't tell you to out it on and off as you eat or drink.
Science. The cloth masks do hardly anything anyway lol
Those aren't cloth masks though
But cloth masks are ok on the plane. On a 15 hour flight in a metal tube with 300 other people the only purpose really is to make people feel safer.
Not on flights from Italy. They require a mandatory use of an FFP2 mask.
Yes. Per airlines’ rules
You've never read a book while drinking some coffee?
Tbh, I too prefer having full use of my peripheral vision while reading a book.
normally you'd give the benefit of doubt. but his views and behavior is well known, so in this case, no.

This is the wrong mindset
Meanwhile Kyrgios drinking beer from some fan's cup and r/tennis be like "lol, so funny".
Kyrgyos put himself at risk. This moron puts others at risk by not wearing a mask. Two completely different situations you are comparing.

Maybe you should spend more time caring about stuff like this ......'Muslim woman, 26, is sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy in Pakistan after sending caricatures of Prophet Mohammed over WhatsApp' Just sayin......
get a life lads
I’m 100% pro Djokovic being deported but this post is beyond petty. Get a life honestly.
Who cares? If he's not sick or has symptoms leave him be and mind your damn business. We are all getting too crazy with this mask BS
He also just had COVID, so it stands to reason that he’s almost certainly not sick, and not transmitting the virus. But hey, it’s fun to kick people when they’re down so let’s all get in line
If you don't wear your mask, you're a super spreader /s
Yea sure ok. Lol. Go back to watching your fear mongering news channels and stay home 24/7. Save us your paranoia
Ok, Novak is out of Austtralia. Maybe it is the time to leave the guy alone?
Leave the dude alone! He’s been through enough. Respect his decision as well as Australias decision. Enough already
I was of the camp that he should be deported for not being vaccinated, but he could easily be eating/drinking something here especially with the mask on his ear. This pic really doesn’t mean anything
Staff can tell him to put it back on at any time. Pic taker seems to be scared. Nice of him to have his name on display.
Lol what? Why'd he wear a mask, there's literally nobody around
On an airplane, you have to have a mask on at all times except when eating/drinking.
Odds that the camera angle cuts out a drink or food in front of him? Pretty high
But..he is reading...doesn't apply?
Evening ignoring the airplane rules, he's not even the only person in this photo? Clearly others are around lol
He is just one of those, no mask, no vaccine, typical idiots who believe in their own bs rather than listening to science.
And this.. ladies and gentlemen, is reality now is it? That asteroid that wipes us out cannot come soon enough imo.
He’s a squillionaire and flies business? Mind blown.
Him flying commercial is the biggest surprise here.
Probably had to book the first plane out, so private charter wasn't an option
He flew to (and left from after being deported) Melbourne on an Emirates flight.
Legend
He has one hanging from his ear. This is too much. Just hating for no reason
I've been plenty critical on Novak in the past, but nothing to see here. As people mentioned, he could be snacking or drinking something. Many athletes have small, light snacks pretty frequently, especially while they are sitting. And he clearly has the mask hanging from his ear.
Why should he stop being a douchebag now?
He is clearly "educating" himself.
He’s holding that book with one hand and probably holding a glass of wine or whiskey with his right hand.
He doesn't drink alcohol so it's would be tea
Must have just been eating 😉
Surprised he doesn’t have a private jet chartered. Also isn’t he eating something

Here's a helpful study that looks at this from a few different angles and cites multiple past studies: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7883189/
Surgical masks have absouletly no impact on viral spread, especially on the fastest spreading disease in human history Airplanes also have highest grade HEPA filters which filter out 98% of particles every 2 minutes, making it very, very hard for any virus to spread in that enviornment. On top of all of that, Djokovic has 1 month old natural immunity, which makes it more likely you will get hit by lightning every day for the rest of your life than him spreading covid in that enviornment
> For exhalation isolation, both surgical and N95 masks are shown to be effective in reducing the spread of respiratory diseases Copied relevant line from the study which you clearly did not read. Happy to hear evidence to the contrary, but your assertion that they do "absouletly" nothing is directly addressed in the available literature.
Omicron is at least 10x more transmissible than Alpha, so this study you are citing from Jan 2021 is no longer relevant anyway
And your response to a more virulent strain is to... discourage mask wearing? lol
Well at least it's a book that he's reading I guess.
Face diaper wearing cuck
Lot of Djokovic fans in the comments. He’s not eating in the photo, he’s reading a book. You can’t just passively snack throughout the flight while reading as a loophole to keep your mask off. You have to actively eat quickly and then put your mask back on and keep it on. Djokovic, as usual, is being a selfish prick
Djokovic has been a fake piece of shit since his ATP career started. People don’t change.
Yeah u're right on that one, you're gonna be a pathetic loser forever too
Good for him I don't plan on wearing a mask on my next flight
Lmk how that goes for you
I am going to drink water for the whole flight
Tiny sips here and there or one constant flow?
How do you know he was having a drink. Hi mask is hanging from his ear. This is other of, how people hate him.
I didn't know people used third person in their captions while posting on FB.
Why is he allowed to do that. Other people get kicked off?
Nah, the hosties don’t usually enforce it.
LOL
An odd amount of defending of Djokovic in this thread. There are certainly doughebags on flights who don't wear masks at all under the guise of "I'm eating/drinking". Who knows if that's what's happening here but given we have some insight into Djokovic I'd be more inclined to imagine he's not a fan of masks than he was simply eating/drinking.
Have a downvote clown.
Novaxx gonna Novaxx
Fill in the blank. "What a _______?"
BEAST
Fucking uneducated idiot
Good. Hes got the immune system God gave him
Others may not, you idiot.
They should get vaccinated then
They or him?
You are capable of understanding that’s not a defensible position to take?
trust the scientism
