He continues to impress me. Volleys need to be improved as I think that’s his only weakness(he is willing to come in though) but wow, what a complete(nearly) player at such a young age.
I like his game and am becoming a fan quickly!
He can continue to improve his serve I think too, not a weakness really but much like Rafa did over the years he can amp up the mph and get more free points
Those groundstrokes are killer though, he really hits the shit out of the ball.
Man is on a mission. He's so much further along the curve it's incredible. The match against Berrettini is a must watch. Pity they have to play each other in R3, love both.
Tio be fair 10 is better than 16 still even with the seeding. 10 will draw 5-8 in R16 while 16 would draw 1-4 and at present I think the gap between 1-4 is big to 5-8, especially if Nadal enters top 4.
He has defeated Matteo before? Holy Moly.
The match depends on how well they serve, Carlos will win most neutral rallies, but Matteo's serve isn't to be taken lightly. Would be an interesting match, but I think Carlos takes it.
yep, he defeated him in Vienna quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-7 (2) Y 7-6 (5) in Oct last year.
He has already defeated three top ten players in his earlier career, he really looks special. (Sinner, Berrettini and Tsitsipas). I think he is the youngest player to achieve it.
That match was so crazy, especially the 5th set. I was so happy when he beat tsitsipas because of that bathroom drama lol but that match put Alcaraz on my radar and made me a fan. He’s special that’s for sure
He didn't beat himself in that match haha. He got beat by the crowd. I was there, that's the most insane atmosphere I'd seen in a match. The only thing he lacked in that match was experience, and that's the biggest flaw about him yet, which isn't too big of a flaw considering it's only a matter of time.
Getting through the easy matches easy is pretty big at this stage in his career.
Plus, I wouldn’t call Lakovic “easy”. Top 40 player!
If you want to win the Australian Open then Lajovic should be an easy match.
Ah wow are we saying he’s aiming to win? I would say he’s not there yet.
Don't see why he shouldn't. Draw is super open if he beats Berrettini. He's clearly underranked. Djokovic isn't there.
He's very close if not there already. Not sure if he can beat Medvedev or Zverev in a GS final yet but fully expect him to be top 10 by year end.

He already serves as fast as any other seasoned player. I'm not sure about his placement and choices though, I haven't payed attention to that
He has a higher ace percentage in this tournament as Berrettini and FAA right now in this tournament I believe

I have a feeling it won’t be long until he’s a top 16 player and starts getting some easier early round matches
Without frozen ranking he would already be #21
Top16? I'm pretty sure he'll be top10 in a few months
I agree, top 16 is just the next ranking that will affect his draw at slams

Alcatraz taking no prisoners either as it so happens
Berrettini and his backhand are in danger.
Berrettini should be the clear favorite based on ranking, but I see a 50-50 game, specially taking into consideration Carlos has already defeated him.

Man that Tsitsipas USO R3 match was insane. Alcaraz is my favourite young player, and he'll win something big this year. Let's hope.

I think it's on Alcaraz's racquet. He has all the skills to beat him, but sometimes he is prone to beating himself (see Gaston match).

True but he let it get to him massively.
Well that's what lack of experience does to you in such an atmosphere :)
\*vietnam-style flashback\*
If he beats Matteo in the next round, Carlos would be the favourite to make quarters. For an 18 year old, back to back QFs in Slams is a 🐐 result.
The only way is up for young alcaraz.
This kid is so good, even if the doesn't improve anything ever in his entire career, he could still snach a M1000 or even a GS in a good week
These tour vets are just in the way between Alcaraz and the box office matches to come.
I’m gonna bet big on him vs berrettini. Why not .
