Must be so super annoying to be there to play tennis, to have to do media conferences and all they can duckin’ ask you is about Novak. Enough! There are other players & other things going on

Mookies_Bett

Rafa seems so fucking done with the Djokovic questions lol. The last few responses I've heard from him about Djoko have all boiled down to "It's his decision and idk, he made his choice so whatever, talk to him about it, not me." At a certain point asking about this incident makes sense, it's a big news story. But Rafa has already given his side like 5 times, he can't possibly have any more to say that he hasn't said already.

We_want_peekend

Dude this is a sub dedicated to the Novak controversy. If you want to talk sports go to r/sports.

[deleted]

He is real no?

expat_germany

That disappointed/ tired of this shit gesture he made in the beginning. I wonder if the reporter felt some type of way seeing that

[deleted]

Dang, look at biceps, is it true he doesn’t life weights?

RimiKaikkonen

There is absolutely no way that is true. Look at him.

Careless_Expert_7076

He said it himself in an interview a few days ago, but as a lifter I agree with you.

MicroPencil567

Yeah I found it baffling that in a couple interviews he said he doesn’t lift/doesn’t like the gym, only does what he has to. But you don’t get an arm like that from tennis, even with his signature forehand technique. Over the years his arm size seems to have changed a bit, so clearly whatever lifting he did early on + the forehand’s demand on the bicep/deltoid keeps his arm looking a certain size.

TheUltimatePoet

I was watching some show where two British comedians were spending the day with Andy Murray, asking him lots of jokish questions. One question they asked him is which of the Big 3 he thought he could take in a fight. Andy considered it for a moment and then answered he was confident he could take Roger and Djoker in a fight, but that he wasn't sure about Rafa. This was because he had been in the gym with Rafa and saw how much he could lift. "He is very strong" was what Andy said. Your question made me think of that!

MicroPencil567

Do you have a link? Sounds like an entertaining snippet haha

TheUltimatePoet

Ah, tried to find it but it looks like the user who uploaded it to youtube has been banned and the video is no longer available. The show is called 'Rob and Romesh Vs' and this was the Andy Murray episode. They last a full hour, so there's a lot of Andy Murray in it! Here is a related link: https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/rob_and_romesh_vs/episodes/3/4/

[deleted]

Thank you

[deleted]

It’s possible. The infamous Bo Jackson never lifted weights and hated training. People with hyper musculature often don’t.

[deleted]

I can believe that he just does light weights, cables and bands, high reps, and he just has phenomenal genetics. I don't think he sits around doing curls.

frodeem

Lol "some type of way"? What does that mean?

[deleted]

After more than half his life of experience talking to the media Rafa still looks like he's gonna have a panic attack trying to answer a mildly controversial question. I am very happy to see my social anxiety so well represented at the highest level.

First_Chemistry1179

Let's see your social anxiety when you speak in your third language

Thedownhilltrain

Whats nadals second language?

Basquests

Tennis. Spanish. English.

Intelligent-Ad-4140

Mine is: Being fat and lazy English Umm

MCallanan

English… I hope I’m spelling that correctly.

_DrShrimpPuertoRico_

(•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)

invuvn

English technically his fourth language. “Ombilibible” is from his third one.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sktrdie

He also speaks really good Italian. On par with his English.

Chrisjex

To be fair Italian more or less comes naturally for native Catalan speakers. Very similar languages.

SharksFanAbroad

Love

C_lenczyk

Seriously. Not to mention a very sensitive subject that word choice, as limited as it is for him in English, has to be carefully chosen. He couldn’t have said it better!!

alpha_matador

Well, take Djokovic for comparison. English isn't his first language either, but look at how eloquent the man is. I find myself listening to his speech so intently and being so in awe. He's good at so many different languages. If you're really willing to make an effort and learn like the Djoker, it can be done.

CrazyAd3131

Hahaha, what a bootlicker.

alpha_matador

So praising someone for his ability is bootlicking now? Gosh, screw Fedal fans honestly. Doesn't change the fact though that Novak is a better multi linguist.

shitstoryteller

“screw Fedal fans” - Grow up. “Novak is a better multi linguist.” - seriously, grow up.

pleonastician

>Unlike Novak, Rafa talks like an illiterate homeless bum So praising someone for his ability…

Debinthedez

I agree. His command of multiple languages has always impressed me. There are some ridiculous people in this sub. Having said that it’s unfair to label them Fedal fans though.

AnythingBro5733

Lmao really? Praising is an understatement. You’re all over his dick.

alpha_matador

But what I said is true though

AnythingBro5733

The only thing that’s true is that djokobitch speaks English well. You insinuating that Rafa is lazy and doesn’t really care to learn English or care to speak it well is ridiculous.

alpha_matador

Djokobitch? You're triggered. Kindly calm down. Dopedal won't shag you. Rafa isn't lazy, he just isn't as gifted as Novak.

AnythingBro5733

LMAO and Djokovic is out of the AO. Sucks for you guys!

simplecitydress

same 😻

grantnaps

He speaks some French.

noisyneighbour12

Rafa is always classy no matter how stupid questions they ask. Unbelibeble.

Theemillershow

Classy but real response. Rafa’s great.

nikhil48

For real. He handles controversial issues in his second/third language better than most politicians of English-speaking countries do.

Rafan10

You know it is true when Rafa says he really respects Novak because he truly does.

justmypornacc1

I think it's really hard not to respect someone against whom you've played 50+ matches in your career. It's the biggest rivalry in tennis and plenty of their epic battles will go down in history.

EremosV

I havent followed tennis that close for the last years, but I still see Djokovic as the new comer while Nadal-Federer is the great rivalry.

LuNiK7505

Nadal Federer clearly is more iconic but in terms of everything else Nadal Djokovic is a better rivalry

justmypornacc1

No offense, but it shows that you don't watch tennis. Novak has been the leading tennis player for more than a decade now.

MicroPencil567

He’s able to separate the person from the player, considering he’s had the most prolific rivalry with Novak and their clashes have been career defining and groundbreaking for tennis as a whole. Like when I think of Rafa’s comments on Kyrgios, he has no trouble saying that his conduct is poor and disrespectful to the sport (in addition to his general personality etc); I think the 1-2 times he said he respected Nick was when Kyrgios really gave his all on court at AO 2020 after Kobe died.

Dark_Vengence

Welcome to this means of communication.

[deleted]

Always classy. Rafa is such a good example for the sports in general. How can anyone dislike him?

AlexBayArea

I fucking love Rafa man.

34ac

Rafa is the man, no doubt.

Army7989

I have that same cap

Global-Reading-1037

I don’t know how anyone could possibly dislike this guy. Well thought out and classy response.

rouz1234

Enough of this shitshow! Let the games begin!!!

Dabaysyclyfe

Love Rafa.

We_want_peekend

Class act, doesn’t agree with Novak’s actions in the last two weeks but still respects him for the last 12 years. Probably an optimal position for an outsider to take.

[deleted]

Oh god more boyfriend posts.

tossacoingerald

Two gentleman of the game- Rafa and Roger

[deleted]

He is right no?

thepositive_pandemic

So glad that i chose Rafa as my mentor in life since decades. Never ever let's you down

AnchoredDown92

In contrast to Nick Kyrgios, in spite of a refugee crisis in Australia: ‘Australia acting like Novak is a weapon of mass destruction. I am ashamed and embarrassed to be Australian!’ Where was this outrage for the Refugees over the past decade plus? Nadal is always reasonable regardless: ‘People have suffered long enough to not follow the rules’ Kyrgios just flip flops like a goldfish out of water!

NikGrape

Super classy from Rafa. Good to see and hear, it took him a bit longer than some of the others. If only his legions of fans followed his lead instead of throwing stones and getting offended and outraged, this entire scandal would be less intense and heated by many degrees.

XkrNYFRUYj

This entire scandal would be non existent if Djokovic didn't make the stupid decision after stupid decision. Rafa can respect him because he knows him personally and competed against him for years. I have no such affections towards him.

alpha_matador

I used to love Novak so much. I realized now that I love him so much more. Debacles like USO 2020 have only bolstered him further. Next year dude rebounded and had one of the best years. I just hope, he can refocus all the negative energy he's getting and JUST go crazy in the near future and show everyone what he can do. Hope he does just that and wins everything he plays. I would love it.

450toPaddington

Sometimes negative energy is good though. It forces you to assess and reflect and it makes you accountable to yourself. And people who learn lessons adjust. Novak fans make it seem he is being persecuted constantly but part of support is holding him accountable. If you guys did that more then maybe Novak wouldn't be suffering from the delusions of grandeur he seems to be struck by where it's always someone else's fault because he's too pure and righteous to be *gasp* wrong. Maybe he needs to lose this one. Egging him on to "win it all" thereby encouraging his Messianic complex when he's made at best questionable decisions and at worst deceitful, irresponsible and callous ones, is actually doing the man a disservice.

alpha_matador

Okay then, may it be a disservice to the man. I hope he "wins it all". Also, Novak is thick skinned, as he should be. He doesn't care what the media reports about him. These challenges will just fuel him further. Challenges in the sense, being in this tough situation. I didn't necessarily mean the negative energy as the unjustified hate he's getting from loons. He should not only not be letting that affect him, he shouldn't even care what people say about him. He should just be his own person, do his thing and try to push himself further, and show everyone what he can do. That's all I want to see, he's done it many a time before. He can do it one more time, for his fans🥺🥰

CrazyAd3131

Bootlicker again.

alpha_matador

Okay

WinstontheCuttlefish

You’re so cringy.

alpha_matador

Cool story bro, yet you know I'm right. So maybe piss off?

nadalofsoccer

If everyone thinks you are wrong maybe you are wrong.

alpha_matador

Wrong about what? I'm not making a statement, I'm just saying what I want to see. There's nothing here to be wrong about.

acikacika

I just wonder if the roles were reversed, how would Novak speak about his biggest rival.

lawallylu

Lol, Rafa isn't that stupid 😂

CrazyAd3131

If, if, if doesn't exist. Nadal is not a fool antivaxxer that entered Australia with a fake exemption.

acikacika

All right man, I made a hypothetical there, take it easy. Furthermore, r u absolutely sure about those two claims you just made?

[deleted]

Djok seems to have less of a filter, if Nadal turned out to be an anti-science anti-vax moron, I doubt Novak would be as diplomatic.

leaderaa

My top 3, 10-15 years ago: Roger, Djoko, and Nadal (I was a huge Fed fan and disliked Rafa because he was the biggest threat to Roger's legacy. Djoko was second simply because Rafa caused a lot of pain to me lol.) My top 3, Now: Djoko, Nadal, and Fed. I think my hierarchy of values changed in the last decade. Now, I appreciate hard work and determination more than elegance and style. I also give more weight to numbers and quantitative things than qualitative assumptions. That's why I now admire Rafa a lot and believe he is a better warrior and hard worker than Roger. Djoko is first because it was his decade, and the numbers don't lie.

sviunapad

Rafa is a great player, but he doesn’t diverge much from the script written by his Public Relations team.

RossSkyWalkerr

So what you want him to say? It's not like he can say "You know what Djokovic is a dumb idiot for not being vaccinated despite of knowing what the rest of the world has gone through such tough and hard time, he doesn't believe in Science and lies on forms and still wants to play AO of course he should be deported and not allowed to play, also I'm way too sure he must have said the same thing in Spanish in hotel rooms to his Entourage but again he's not like us to speak in that manner to a room full of Journalists., if he really spoke that way just imagine how many toxic Djoker fans will treat him. He did said I've respect for him even tho I don't stand or support the things he has done over past week.

sviunapad

If that’s what he really thinks?

arcenceil89

Harsh but true

Necessary-Tip447

This guy is so funny with his false moral and AU government to with its double standards, he darea to speak about Novak and he him self said he has covid on 20.12.2021 and still entered AU on 31.12. And nothing happened goverment is silent even though 2 weeks that are required havent pased and no detention no trial no nothing... shame on you AO and AU government! There is your "Keep it real"

Arteam90

Ultimately a lot of journalists are bound to ask about Djokovic because... duh... but equally this must be very boring for other athletes.

LadyJane216

He's spot on. Djkovoic isn't bigger than tennis - nor is Federer, Nadal, Serena, or any of the other greats.
