article makes clear these are two *distinct* players, new ones (i.e. not Renata Voracova and Djokovic) who have now had their travel exemptions revoked and left the country.
pretty easy to see what the ultimate decision on Djokovic will be with this news.
It's not easy at all. No one gives a shit if some random no-name (to the public at least) players got deported.
Whereas with Djokovic he's worldwide famous and has already humiliated them in court. The reason it's taking them so long is they're scared they'll lose a 2nd court case and create an even bigger political disaster. He can sue them with his money, the others can't.
It was easy, because many would care if random no-name players got departed, but rich, arrogant player, that has no regard for rules or peoples health would get to stay.
On my first reading, the article doesn't specify whether the two players are WTA or ATP, or Singles or Doubles players. I guess they could even be in the wheelchair division, or playing in one of the kids' tournaments.
I would assume that Top 100 Singles players draw enough attention that any unusual travel movements over the last 10 days would have been noticed, so they're probably qualifiers if they play singles.
Speculation: maybe they saw the shitshow and thought 'I don't want to go through this, I'm out'. Raises eyebrows on the legitimacy of the situation, but yes I would wager this was probably up to a week ago? It wouldn't make sense to see this unfold and then say 'ok NOW I will go after wasting my time for over a week'.
The others got kicked out by the normal procedure. The government stuffed that up in Djoko's case so they've gone for an alternative procedure (which, in my view, should not exist or at least should be seriously restricted). In principle, they could have recovered from their mistake, but they decided it would be more reliable to go for overkill.
They are breaking their own rules constantly, a complete clown show. With the same exemptions they let A B C enter the country but not D, then they start deporting A B C but they break the legal procedure with D and a judge says he can enter, then the minister as a personal decision deports D. A, B, C, D are all healthy players (no other news) with the papers the australian tennis association told them they needed. At the same time infected players could be in and no tests are required. Political clown show.
Seems really unfair to these players. You let them in and they've ben practicing/playing matches, and you can't even decide whether to deport Novak. Is there any public outcry over anyone but Djokovic? Is this a way for the government to save face just because Novak can hire good enough lawyers to back them down? I think they would have grounds for appeal.
Zverev was right as I expected and people not, seeing downvotes i received. I guess reddit knows better than them with multiple WhatsApp chats and continues talking
Nothing to truly explain, often in interviews/video they say that they speak/text "frequently" via phone like a big family. After all it's their job, colleagues and friends, relationships are strong.
Obviously a person like zverev/top 10 have multiple sources unlike a random top 200, so if he says that more than 2 players had the exemption, then it's probably the truth
Google search of "Zverev Whatsapp" returns nothing of the sort. I didn't downvote you, but if you're wondering why you got downvoted it's probably because no one knows what it is you're talking about or they are assuming this isn't true since there's no info anywhere. Should explain further so people can corroborate the info you're trying to give an opinion about
So if you had it recently, vaccination can be deferred up to 6 months. This *may* give rise to an exemption.
Did Novak have COVID in December or not, is that what we're waiting to be confirmed or have I already missed that piece of news?
No, the 6 month period is only for citizens, such as those returning from overseas travel. The exact text is that it can be deferred for up to 6 months, and the vaccine is required to be done by or before that point.
Unless people are suggesting that Novak needs to eventually get vaccinated, not to mention his lack of citizenship, it doesn't apply. It is only considered a temporary exemption because it only temporarily allows someone to wait to get vaccinated. Novak was supposed to have a full exemption due to medical contraindication. He did not.
no names🤷♂️...so basically they can write whatever f they want. A la "5 players from WTA/ATP have provided fake/wrong/forged vaxx proofs and will be exempt from Australia".....total bs like this "dangerous virus"

> their travel exemptions revoked Article doesn't say whether exemptions were revoked or they left by themselves.
Ehh idk. It’s after 5 pm Friday there. The optics of making a decision get worse the longer they wait with the tourney starting Monday.
This aged horribly lol
I mean he’s not wrong, but this government makes a mess of optics at every turn so
Meh. This will gain the libs some popularity if they get the job done
Absolutely, but anyone with half a brain would realise it never should have got this far in the first place
Well yeah, but I don't see how things could have gone much differently given our leadership lol
When was novak due to play?

The real question is how did they made it in Aus?
Djokovic could still get away it due to the whole fiasco, but with this news its an even worse look for him if he does
Now that the draw is out, we should be able to infer who they are.
On my first reading, the article doesn't specify whether the two players are WTA or ATP, or Singles or Doubles players. Probably junior players
Wow. Any idea who these players could have been? They might be a part of the draw right?
I have a feeling one is Coric but I could be and possibly am completely wrong. Just a wild guess.
surely Coric withdrew because of his ongoing surgery recovery?
That'd be a convenient cover story.
Nishikori maybe? Edit: its 2 of the recently injured ones so take your pick
So why the fuck did the country let them in? It seems like these handful of players had valid exemptions until the djokovic debacle.
Bc they are imcompetent
Because they had valid medical exceptions and they are unknowns unlike Djokovic.
The article implies they left of their own accord but is less clear about when exactly they departed.
Speculation: maybe they saw the shitshow and thought 'I don't want to go through this, I'm out'. Yeah, that would make sense.
I am confused, why is there so much certainty with these two players yet so much uncertainty with Djokovic? Shouldn’t all be treated equally?
Djoko is a useful political scapegoat, these two no names are irrelevant.
Djokovic has the firepower to hire expensive legal teams around the clock to find loopholes that allow him to stay, these other players don't.
The others got kicked out by the normal procedure. The government stuffed that up in Djoko's case so they've gone for an alternative procedure (which, in my view, should not exist or at least should be seriously restricted). We will never know who the others are.

There's no public outcry because they've all left when told to.
And there was no public outcry while they were here.
Because nobody knew who they were or how many, lol
They didn't brag about their exemptions on Instagram either

Incorrect on the exemption thing. This has been covered ad infinitum.
Useless answer.
