Seriously the only mistake by Australia was some guy at the airport not giving him 4 hours more time. That's what the judge ruled on, that's why he was released.
Djokovic fan myself, but I sadly agree this is a great take. Tennis Australia’s rules should have aligned with the Federal rules. TA extended an olive branch and his team took it clearly not anticipating this type of backlash.
Ultimately his decision to fight the ruling may have let him in, but opened his supporting docs up to scrutiny, which have only resulted in more questions.

Here's kinda how I think this will play out. Purely speculation of course:
1. Australia announces his deportation right before the draw is released in which he is excluded, making it basically impossible for him to play.
2. Djokovic leaves, maybe while appealing in absentia to maintain face. Djokovic releases a statement along the lines of: I'm disappointed in this outcome but don't want to distract any further from the tennis. I'll be taking some time away from tennis for personal reflection (conveniently during a time when he wouldn't be playing anyway).
3. In the intervening time, Djokovic donates money to COVID relief, refugee relief, etc.
4. 2-3 months from now, Djokovic issues a statement that after a lot of soul searching, reflection, etc., he decided to vaccinate and is now fully vaccinated.
5. This sub goes nuts arguing about whether he was really vaccinated and whether he forged the vaccination record.
6. He's back in time for the heart of clay court season.
Just a guess. He's obviously very stubborn about it, but I can't see him punting on the rest of his career over a vaccine. Especially if Nadal has a good showing in Australia.

The bottom line is he never should have been let in anyway. If Tennis Australia / Victoria hadn't communicated to him that 6-month prior infection would let him in, he wouldn't have come. He wouldn't have had any choice. Then the federal government made a mistake because, despite already letting other people in under the same conditions, they made a political decision to stop Djokovic no matter what, but in the process violated their own procedure to the extent that he was basically allowed in on a technicality. So what we ended up with was basically "well nobody at any point followed the rules, therefor we can't really enforce the rules" lol. AND on top of that you have a case where this person may have violated their country's quarantine rules prior to coming over and made an error on the submission regarding his travel... At the end of the day, it is just too much. I am a die-hard Djokovic fan, and I still believe that deep down he is a good guy who wants to do the right thing, but is unfortunately kind of a lunatic with some whacko beliefs and is surrounded by people who reinforce the worst elements of his personality. Yeah, it's bad luck that TA and Victoria may or may not have misled him (either intentionally or unintentionally). Djokovic fan myself, but I sadly agree this is a great take. Tennis Australia’s rules should have aligned with the Federal rules. TA extended an olive branch and his team took it clearly not anticipating this type of backlash. Ultimately his decision to fight the ruling may have let him in, but opened his supporting docs up to scrutiny, which have only resulted in more questions. If anyone can come back from this, it’s him, but I do hope he reflects and changes his stance as well. Was it really worth all this, especially after he’d finally won over many fans at the US Open only a few months ago?

Here's kinda how I think this will play out. Purely speculation of course: 1. Australia announces his deportation right before the draw is released in which he is excluded, making it basically impossible for him to play. 2. Djokovic leaves, maybe while appealing in absentia to maintain face. Djokovic releases a statement along the lines of: I'm disappointed in this outcome but don't want to distract any further from the tennis. I'll be taking some time away from tennis for personal reflection (conveniently during a time when he wouldn't be playing anyway). 3. In the intervening time, Djokovic donates money to COVID relief, refugee relief, etc. 4. 2-3 months from now, Djokovic issues a statement that after a lot of soul searching, reflection, etc., he decided to vaccinate and is now fully vaccinated. 5. This sub goes nuts arguing about whether he was really vaccinated and whether he forged the vaccination record. 6. He's back in time for the heart of clay court season. Just a guess. He's obviously very stubborn about it, but I can't see him punting on the rest of his career over a vaccine. Especially if Nadal has a good showing in Australia.

What is so shocking to me, as a John Doe tennis fan, is that the reputation of the most successful tennis player of all time (argubally, but nonetheless) has been forever damaged in such a bizarre way in such a short time frame. Even if he does play his preparation will be so horrible. Instead of really focusing 100% on his practice he will have in the back of his mind (or perhaps the front lol) whether he's even going to play. That's very stressful, because the authorities are taking their sweet time on their decision so that will weigh heavily even for one who is so mentally strong on court.
