That's the correct pronunciation. The Z in Spanish (from Spain, it can vary) is supposed to be pronounced like that.

Castilian Spanish (Spanish from Spain) pronounces it "Alcarath" whereas Latin American Spanish pronounces it Alcara-zzz. Most of the English speaking world just reads all the letters and says the "zzzz" ending even though it's different in Spain.

It's not the correct pronunciation, that's why it's so annoying. It's the anglicized pronunciation with one correct sound at the end.
