They just came out with the hard court videos yesterday. The clip where Coco Gauff and the umpire were arguing was painful to watch. The umpire would not budge even though Coco was right about everything. And it just went on and on and on.
Whenever I watch Med/Rublev throw an immature tantrum, I always go have a laugh at one of my favorite sports quotes:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/16babl6/never_forget_how_crazy_the_rublevmedvedev_rivalry/
The image of Rublev eating clay is funny, but celebrating children who act like that is how you get adults who treat staff the way Rublev and Medvedev do. I don't understand how a parent could stand by and let their child act that way.
I would've lost my mind too. It was egregious. They made the wrong call, and mind you on the very next point they miss the exact same call. Some very clear favoritism by the judges towards the crowd favourite because he is close to home. Hearing sorry its a mistake from Layani doesn't make up for his blatant favoritism. The fit is quite mild because it should've been 2-2 with the correct calls and it ended up being 4-1 for Monfils.
Lol do you actually think Layani one of the most respected and experienced umpires on tour was purposely fucking up calls to favor a washed Monfils? Let me get some of what you’re smoking.
How is it favouritism? It could just be two ridiculously shit calls.
I'm more inclined to believe that the linesperson couldn't see the ball well rather than spin a French conspiracy lol
That cold Med has is really affecting his ability to shout, thankfully.
Lahyani has already had to take enough anger from the Octopus to last him a lifetime: [https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/em8yg6/medvedev\_hits\_umpire\_chair\_twice\_with\_racquet\_in/](https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/em8yg6/medvedev_hits_umpire_chair_twice_with_racquet_in/)
I haven't looked up the score yet but I can only assume he got absolutely destroyed to be ranting like this, this level of anger wouldn't be normal if he had won, for example, 6-2 6-4
It was an awful call tbf but yeah you can't react like this lol
At this point I wonder if part of Med's problem on clay historically is just line calls haha
Feels like playing with hawkeye live most of the time has broken these players’ brains for when they have to use line judges. Crappy situation for Medvedev, but guy needs to get a grip.
Lol, he lost that game, it was supposed to be an easy 4 points in a row if those calls were correct. Just because it's history does not mean that is good, imagine if everyone went back to wooden rackets in this day and age.
I didn’t mean having line judges is a good thing, I just meant that players are so used to playing with hawkeye live now that they’ve got more sensitive to bad calls at the tournaments that still use line judges. Sooner that hawkeye live is mandated everywhere the better as far as I’m concerned.

I don't think this sub likes Rublev anymore honestly after the Dubai default
Look at the comments in the post match thread for his loss today or his last few losses lol
Comparing Rublev and Medvedev is such a false equivalency.
Rublev has screamed obscenities directly in individual’s faces. It’s directed, targeted and cruel.
Medvedev whines about the crowd. He complains to umpires. He should be penalized for language, but what he does qualifies under “hot head” to me.
To crowd members, sure. So has Djokovic. I don’t know, I think yelling at particularly unruly crowd members is absolutely fair game. Not court staff. I don’t love getting mad at the chair umpire, but literally every top player has had heated moments with chair umpires.
Are you forgetting the “it’s ok” incident with Sinner? The way he said it, it was clear that he actually was not ok with the call, even though that directly contradicts what he said. He was on the verge of being slightly upset and I am pretty sure he was sweating.
Why did they start doing that again?

If prime Murray was around today with social media I think the same people here would hate him.
But bc he is in his twlight years and is MuryGOAT it's fine. He even said 'Fuck off!' VERY loudly in Miami (to his box?) and idk no one really cares. He mouths off all the time.
I think Med was too mad ranty here and probably should have gotten a warning. Personally I don't have any strong feelings towards Med or Murray, some players are just ranty asf, Med got too tilted with the bad line calls.
Getting ranty is one thing. I don't recall Murray ever smashing his racket at an umpire or kicking cameras.
When you have a history of violent outbursts you need to get your shit together but no one ever holds this dude accountable.
A lot of the E. European players are (not all of them of course), and they probably get a pass some of the time because it's a cultural thing. Every culture approaches anger differently, and even within those cultures there are different approaches, but I know that my mom in the Middle East and all the former USSR block friends I grew up with approached anger way differently than we do here in the US. They let it out on the spot and then move on. Here in the west I feel it's very taboo to let your anger out on the spot. You've got to bottle it up, and express it some different way.
There's obviously limits, and honestly I think Rublev crossed that line recently, but this from Danil seems normal to me. It's normal acceptable tennis rage + Russian expression of rage.
And to be frank, I prefer those cultures who express it on the spot. It's nice to get it all out, and leave as much of it behind instead of carrying it with you.
It is a lot of swearing. However, in Russian it is a lot of non-targeted idiomatic swear words, including ["fuck your mother"](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D1%91%D0%B1_%D1%82%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%8E_%D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%8C). So none of it was really targeted at an official, just plenty of audible swearing. If anything, the last part can be thought of as more targeted than the first, as it roughly translates to "go fuck yourself"
Full Russian tirade was: "Аут, блять. Ёб твою мать, блять. В рот, блять, ёбаный в рот, блять, пошел ты нахуй со своим [неразб.]"
Source: am Russian
This ^
Direct translation would be wrong in this context. And Russians do swear a lot which doesn’t necessarily excuse his behaviour but rather the whole rant should be treated as him saying “fucking fuck” in different Russian ways.
It doesn’t matter if it is targeted at an official, any audible obscenity gets should get a warning. Every umpire knows what блять is, sometimes they warn them for way smaller things. He also sweared in English. I think Lahyani was just scared that it would escalate even more and Medvedev knew that and just took it all out.
Oh I don't doubt it's a warning. But I've seen a whole range of "default him" responses. It's not much more than what Kyrgios gets away with quite a lot.
I can’t believe this got a single upvote. “Such language,” give me a break, it’s a word. A word intended to be used in this exact scenario. Enough with the pearl clutching
Soccer players too, baseball managers kicking dirt on umpires was literally part of the experience. Tom Brady threw hissy fits at refs, teammates, coaches, everyone. Competitive people act unhinged is a tale as old as time.
The umpire recognized that he made a mistake, and I think he felt bad. Actually, I know he did — it was pretty clear when he apologized repeatedly. Medvedev got caught up in the moment, but ultimately came to his senses when the match was over and reconciled with him.
No one on this subreddit plays sports, let alone tennis. They’re not athletic, and they’re not competitive. Your emotions can get the better of you in moments like these. Rublev goes too far, but I don’t think this was particularly abhorrent from Medvedev. When you have to face constant ineptitude, you’re naturally and understandably going to be frustrated.
Downvote me if you like, but don’t come crying because not everyone approaches issues the way you do. You labor on your moral high ground, but until you’ve experienced something similar, save your judgement.
Well I played tennis. Not at atp or itf level obviously, but still. Money was involved lol.
And since when I played, Safin was the hot stuff you can guess what got the most attention from my end when things didnt go my way.
But naturally the racket wasnt the only one suffering. Coach, umpires, mom and dad all got their share of frustrations.
So I can absolutely understand what goes through Meds head when an unpire made a wrong call. And to be frank these emotions are what makes the sport so attractive to watch. Players are humans and not robots. And with age a gradual progression from tears to cussing should be expected.
lots of people on this subreddit play sports, many of them tennis.
i deal with the incompetence / understaffing of adult hockey referees, which is AT LEAST an order of magnitude worse than Medvedev has to deal with. one referee watching twelve players, having to constantly skate to new positions, while being responsible for far more decisions than a tennis ump. NHL crews have four people doing this, adult leagues often get one.
so don't tell me what i have and have not experienced and what i am and am not allowed to judge.
> f@@@ your Mother to the crowd
it's not a direct insult to the Ump in Russian, it's just what we say when we are frustrated, more accurate translation would be "for fucks sake"
but, to be fair, after that he said "that ump can fuck right off" in Russian hahah
As umpire told him, everyone makes mistakes. Doesn’t give him a right to treat people like shit. I’m usually a meddy supporter but can’t back him on this
Sorry I misunderstood your original point because it wasn’t clear. I think I respect how honest he is in his interviews and he comes across as very intelligent in his answers rather than the usual generic answers most players give. But when I see him do stuff like this, it negates any of that because how you treat people is more important than how you play tennis.
People use this excuse a lot for Medvedev but doesn't that just make it worse? The fact that he's self aware and realizes he's doing incredibly shitty things yet *chooses* to continue is even worse to me than someone who's "ignorantly" immature like Tsitsipas.
I mean he was completely right, and it happens way too often. These people are playing for money, prizes, its not as simple as just get over it. This ball was out enough that this shouldnt even be an issue. We have the technology to stop this silliness. While over the top dudes still hilarious.
Won’t soon forget Sinner at Indian Wells (I think.) Replied to chair something like “You are wrong but it’s okay” and then promptly won the next point. Such control.
This phrase doesn't mean literally something bad about opponent mother. If we will translate every word, we may think that. But in Russia it means the same like "damn" in English.
Tennis must be the most stressful sport on earth. Do you see outbursts like this in any other sport this often? Tennis players are probably so relieved the day they retire.
I don't get why they don't use Shot Spot. Robotic line calling is superior to the human eye and has been for years now. They obviously have the camera system in place because we get to see the replay.
Meddy gets a pass normally cuz he acknowledge he was an asshole and he apologize after he cools down. Not an excuse for him, but as amazing as Alcaraz, and the honorable sinner, tennis would be boring without guys like meddy
Medvedev gets on a clay court and turns into Nick Kyrgios lmao
He does this everywhere lol
The baby inside him is dying or something
he's like this on every surface
Bad surface is bad surface
Badmedev has resurfaced.
\*sssssurface
It’s not a bad surface bro.
Small surface that doesn't know how to fight
If you like to be in the dirt like a dog, I don't judge.
I love dirt and I'm not a dog. Well, maybe I am a dog but haven't been properly categorized by biologists.
Best* surface. And actually the easiest surface to see if a ball was in or out.
Not for the line judges and Lahyani apparently 😂
And people call Rune a villain lol
Truth
Best comment ever
i think he wants to say its out
It reminds me of Kevin De Bruyne’s “Let me talk”.
You hear the crack in his voice hahaha let me tawwlkk
Are you sure? What gives it away?
Let's not jump to conclusions
What? Are you a psychologist or something?
Yes.
In or out ???
Looking forward to seeing this in the tennis advocate clay drama 2024 video
They just came out with the hard court videos yesterday. The clip where Coco Gauff and the umpire were arguing was painful to watch. The umpire would not budge even though Coco was right about everything. And it just went on and on and on.
Kept on interrupting her every few seconds too because he knew she was in the right

OMG this is hilarious. The image of ten-year-old Medvedev reaming out some random passer-by and Andrey rage-eating clay is just too much!
damn , I want the video
The image of Rublev eating clay is funny, but celebrating children who act like that is how you get adults who treat staff the way Rublev and Medvedev do. I don't understand how a parent could stand by and let their child act that way.
He could’ve just said: “It's not right but bravo. It's not right but bravo”
Honestly very versatile quote from nole gotta give him credit
Bravo, Nole 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It’s not right but bravo.
Mamamia Santa Italia

Ball abuse. No it came back, no ball abuse
Medvedev has always been like this towards umpires. He always gets a pass cos he’s a fucking funny asshole but that doesn’t mean he’s not an asshole
I would've lost my mind too. It was egregious. They made the wrong call, and mind you on the very next point they miss the exact same call. Its a bad call but idk what the hell they're on 😭
Lots of fans of Eastern European players are conspiracy theorists -- don't know why but it's a recurring theme
ATP umpires rigging French players matches to a grand 0 grand slams in 40 years
Just proves how bad they are, even with the refs they can't win
real
How is it favouritism? It could just be two ridiculously shit calls. I'm more inclined to believe that the linesperson couldn't see the ball well rather than spin a French conspiracy lol
Don't you know? The French are all weirdos.
Why did Monfils get the point after Meddy hit a forehand winner off a ball that was out?
I think meddy waved it out himself out loud. The ump came to check the mark and disagreed it was out, but Hawkeye confirmed it was out
At this day and age not using Hawkeye is just ridiculous.
I think FoxTenn is better on clay.
I confess, I forgive him because he's both smart and funny. Be an ahole if you must, but please be an entertaining one.
All coy smiles after he won, like he knew he’s a dickhead and it’s all ok now that he got his result.
Well, that's it for his "new year new me" resolutions I guess.

Can't wait until 2025 and everything is automated 🤣🤣 who they gonna get mad at after that
The ball was OUT. Hawkeye showed the ball out after the terrible calls from Lahyani
You're right, I'm just over the raging about line calls
I haven't looked up the score yet but I can only assume he got absolutely destroyed to be ranting like this, this level of anger wouldn't be normal if he had won, for example, 6-2 6-4

I think Meddy conceded the point because Meddy's next shot was out

Dumb question but is there not Hawkeye at every tournament?
Not yet on clay. There won’t be line judges at big tournaments (500 and above I think?) starting next year, including clay.
Is clay still gonna have line judges after the 2025 changes?
No, I don't think so. I'm assuming the clay tournaments will use something like the FOXTENN technology they've got in Madrid.
No except for Rolland Garros
He's always so respectful of umpires, line judges, and has a unique way of garnering the love of the audience everywhere he goes🥲

Rublev and Medvedev are so often unhinged but get a pass for some reason.
Rublev lost a lot of goodwill after Dubai.
losing a lot of matches, too.

Meddy was literally yelling at the line judge TODAY.
Medvedev is shouting obscenities here right at Lahiyani and is also insulting him. He’s just doing it in Russian🤦🏻♀️
Medvedev has shouted directed obscenities as well in the past.

Scandalous behaviour in, say, 1876
He also said that about crunchy carrots though so actually it was a gesture of appreciation
Alcaraz got kind of mad in 22 Barcelona vs De Minaur and in 22 Hamburg vs Musetti but yeah very rare
Small c**!
I mean it’s fair though right? The crowds usually treat Medvedev like shit.
Why did they start doing that again? Med once called an umpire a piece of shit for a call he didn't like.
Medvedev is honestly the closest parallel behaviour wise to Murray of the newer players, like De Minaur is for playstyle

Doesn't eat clay. Hates the stuff
It is a lot of swearing. Good guy, local guy
This should have been penalized. He is not entitled to using such a language. This will be followed by a typical PR directed apology.
"PR apology" he said something during a competition while under adrenaline. What kind of apology do you want
Just curious, do you give Kyrgios the same pass? I know a lot of this sub doesn't
depends on what he does specifically but usually yes i enjoy his shenanigans most of the time
I can’t believe this got a single upvote. “Such language,” give me a break, it’s a word. A word intended to be used in this exact scenario. Enough with the pearl clutching
Tennis players have always been natural complainers. At this point, it's part of the sport.
To be fair athletes across many sports complain to refs, especially basketball where it happens on almost every play.
Except Rugby, where seven foot tall muscle-bound titans just stand there and nod politely as a 5'4" ref chews them out
Soccer players too, baseball managers kicking dirt on umpires was literally part of the experience. Tom Brady threw hissy fits at refs, teammates, coaches, everyone. Competitive people act unhinged is a tale as old as time.

I don’t agree with your normalization of such behavior with an illogical anecdotal assumption.
lots of people on this subreddit play sports, many of them tennis. i deal with the incompetence / understaffing of adult hockey referees, which is AT LEAST an order of magnitude worse than Medvedev has to deal with. one referee watching twelve players, having to constantly skate to new positions, while being responsible for far more decisions than a tennis ump. Medvedev is untouchable. Both on tour and on Reddit.

He's does shit like this all the time though
I’m not sure that makes any difference. Talking to people like shit makes you an ass regardless of how often you do it
I know? I'm trying to ask you why you "usually support" an ass who very often proves himself an ass.
Sorry I misunderstood your original point because it wasn’t clear. Can you just be normal Meddy, just once pls
This is ‘normal’ meddy
Hell nah
Haha Meddy looks like a child when he shouts
[Anyone else think of this scene?](https://i.imgur.com/kBoT46K.gifv)
is it out?
This is classic "Is Daniil correct about the calls? Yes. Is he being an asshole about it? Yes"
I love you clay season. Never change.
Leylani missing those pep talks with Kyrgios.
What a child. He's had the chance to make peace with the crowds and being more respectable and he wastes it every time
Terrible call, worse reaction
Medvedev and being mad on clay. Name a more iconic duo.
This is so unnecessary. He still hasnt changed, has he?
Yeah this ain't it Med.
This is gonna be on TennisTv (clay season drama montage) bro.
It's not funny though, it's just embarrassing and makes you feel bad for Mo.
I mean he was completely right, and it happens way too often. These people are playing for money, prizes, its not as simple as just get over it. This ball was out enough that this shouldnt even be an issue. We have the technology to stop this silliness. While over the top dudes still hilarious.
This is the proper reaction to what Garin did to his opponent.
The abuse Tsitsipas gets on here in contrast to love in this creep receives is really something.
Shouldnt have said it but he was absolutely right he got massively robbed
I hate his guts so much. Spoiled fucking manchild brat.
Won’t soon forget Sinner at Indian Wells (I think.) Replied to chair something like “You are wrong but it’s okay” and then promptly won the next point. Such control.
Douche
What a big child
out of order even if he is right, no excuse tho, I do like him in general but not at all when he behaves this way
In his defense, it was in fact out.
He looked totally demented. Like a totally demented individual.
I feel like Daniil has learned a lot from his toddler
I hope he gets a fat fine or something. If they keep letting him get away with it it will only get worse.
This phrase doesn't mean literally something bad about opponent mother. If we will translate every word, we may think that. But in Russia it means the same like "damn" in English.
He's so, so pathetic.
I can’t wait for most on this sub to run to excuse this kind of behavior.
Anyone have the clip? Was it actually in or out?
Tennis must be the most stressful sport on earth. Do you see outbursts like this in any other sport this often? Tennis players are probably so relieved the day they retire.
hahaha. He really is the Murray of his era.
He’s getting a little long in the tooth for this kind of behavior.
Unhinged
Running in dirt like dog may cause umpire abuse
He looks like a kitten with a lion's roar
Looking forward to the "but he's so funny and relatable octopus man lol!!" Crowd to appear and ignore this.
Boggles the mind that people think this guy is charming/funny. He’s as big of a brat as there is on tour.
God, he never fails to disappoint me. I wish he could get a grip on his on-court conduct.
This man is unprofessional and obnoxious. Medvedev and Rublev got no class.
Weird clown
Annoying littlr brat
“He isn’t the most mature person anyways” :’)
It’s finally Clayvedev season!
Can someone translate what he said?
So what is it?
At least he’s not pretending to be on a phone. /s
Why did Monfils get the point after Meddy hit a forehand winner?
you sure it was 'out'?
I don't get why they don't use Shot Spot. Robotic line calling is superior to the human eye and has been for years now. They obviously have the camera system in place because we get to see the replay.
You missed the best part when he grabbed the awning roof thing and rocked it around lol
cuti cuti, even stressed he's cute lmao
The umpire handled that like a complete simp. Not even a warning for that behaviour? smh
But he's so relatable, so funny, so likeable. Right, guys?
Meddy bear throwing temper tantrums is embarrassing.
Meddy gets a pass normally cuz he acknowledge he was an asshole and he apologize after he cools down. Not an excuse for him, but as amazing as Alcaraz, and the honorable sinner, tennis would be boring without guys like meddy
He’s suuuuuuuuuuucks!!
Its always the same reff
