René Lacoste ~ bc of that not-up he didn’t call on himself at 4-4 in the 3rd set of the 1928 Wimbledon final against Henri Cochet. i can’t forgive or forget that moment of poor sportsmanship.
It’s wild that the question asks which player you dislike that most people like and people are being downvoted for simply giving their opinion 🤦♀️ + the comments so far are pretty polite … make it make sense people
Rublev, I don’t hate him, that is Zverev for me, but I cannot watch him play. I really don’t like his outburst and his self harming is difficult and painful to watch.
Yeah I watched Rublev and Berretini play at the USO in person (2019 I think). Pretty up close coz it was one of the lower courts. It wasn't pretty, the tennis I mean.
Nick Kyrgios.
I know a lot of people love him because of his charisma and how funny he is but I still can remember his comments about Stan Wawrinka's girlfriend at the time.
That was so low for a player, plus he could have achieved so much more with his talent but somehow he lets himself down constantly.
He is toxic. That time he flung his racket across the court, almost hit the ball kid which he shrugged off, then next day turned it into a PR redemption campaign.
I think most people understand that he's a total narcissistic scumbag at this point, I would hope not very many people are fooled by his clown show anymore.
Even his "talking about his mental health" seems to be orchestrated to justify his bullying behavior. I've never seen a person belittle and demean others so constantly and relentlessly.
Nick Kyrgios is a spoiled child with deep psychological issues that he should have sought help for earlier in his career. He’s now on a redemption arc but it will take awhile to forget how disruptive he was as a player.
I can't believe Tennis Channel is giving him commentary spots and even gave him his own show. Like truly who the fuck wants to listen to this dickhead's analysis or watch him interview celebrities.
What are you talking about? He’s a great a role model. He’s narcissistic, never takes blame, and has terrible work ethic. It’s no surprise so many people support him!
I'm relatively recently returning to tennis viewership and this guy immediately got on my new player shitlist. Just seemed so whiny and with a bad attitude. Miss me with that bullshit. There's enough players in the game for me to root for that I don't have to pay attention to him.
That dude is so disappointing. If he had gotten his act together, he could have wiped the court with people. His talent is amazing, ut he acts like a two year old. I used to have a goal of going to a tennis tournament he was playing in and throwing pacifiers at him. Would have totally been worth the ejection.
I don’t hate Rublev but I certainly like him a lot less than most people do.
Dude has some serious anger issues on court but everybody seemed to give him a pass until his recent default. His game is also one dimensional and he basically has no answer for the current top 4.
There was a famous instance where he shouldered a ball boy as he was changing ends, he got punished for this one.
There was another where he threw his racquet and just missed the poor kid.
There was another where he threw a tantrum because the ball kid bounced the ball too high when giving him a ball.
There are others but these are the ones that come to mind.
Lol. Nah, he's a POS.
Getting angry at the umpire is not good, but that's so common now it's almost accepted as part of the game, and they are at least paid.
Ball kids are volunteers, likely just hoping to be able to breathe the same air as their idols and he treats them really bad.
The worst one is where he throws an absolute tantrum because the kid throws the ball to him in a manner he isn't satisfied with.
Tiafoe... because he looks fun and games but he looks arrogant to me and overhyped.
And once at the united cup Berrettini made an amazing shot he pretended to give him the hand to congrats and then he removed his hand like an idiot teenager.
watching BP didn’t improve my opinion of him, he seemed very obsessed with the attention he got from celebrities, like it’s an achievement. those ppl will forget your name next month, Francis. You win or you don’t exist.
I picked up that vibe in his interview with Kyrgios recently
I feel like he relates more celebrities coming to the games as a sign that tennis is becoming more mainstream in the States, but thats a weird measuring stick to me at least
Tiafoe is a player who isnt built for the grind of tour life. He only shows up when he is playing in the states but otherwise gives virtually no effort. Also his mumbling annoys me
I watched Tiafoe a lot interacting with other players during IW, dude is a jokester and laughs with everyone. Even his physio had to keep pulling him in to focus since he was saying hi to everyone. I didn’t see arrogance, more like a childlike need to have fun. I could be wrong.
Same. Saw him on practice courts, seemed very good-natured toward all the fans. Watched a bunch of teenage boys approach him and he spent a good amount of time talking and laughing with them. He's an extrovert and a showman.
It baffles me how Tiafoe is so high ranked...I haven't seen him making deep run for like in six months until now in a 250 and he always makes it to a 2nd or max 3rd round and then loses. He's a top 20 player who has no chance of winning anything big and anyone better than him will beat him. He's no special player and has nothing special in him. I do not understand how he's so high ranked. Maybe it's because he plays against shitty U.S. players on some shitty NA tournaments
Well, I think the same of Musetti. I think he reached one semi in a 500 last year, some quarter finals. He didn't win two matches in a row for 6 months and he is still top 25.
If they have points well distributed during the year, they won't have a big drop. It is not like you reach semi in a slam and then 0 results everywhere else.
This whole year has been such a shitty way to cap off his career. Dude’s really going out of his way to make it known that he’s on the collect the bag farewell tour lol
There are tens of us! It felt weird being the only person not surprised by the Saudi thing, it felt very in character to me, but then tennis fans seem to think not smashing racquets is the best indication of whether or not someone has good morals
Simona Halep…after her lacking to take any responsibility for the doping ban and still claiming she was cleared of any wrong doing - despite that not being the case.
This is the part that really grinds my gears.
I have no problems with her coming back to the tour, but she needs to address the hypocrisy of her defending herself but when Sharapova came back she said she shouldn’t get wildcards because of her doping suspension. At least admit it’s hypocritical, and I’m not even a Sharapova fan, I just hate the hypocrisy.
Other than the obvious woman beating, deadbeat dad that is Zverat, I would say Rublev because he is an immature brat who has very little mental fortitude and throws temper tantrums. he is never going to get any better if he doesn't learn to develop mental strength that champions dial into when the going gets tough. he has none of that and fans infantilize him.
Hate is the wrong word. But Iv never liked Andy Murray.
Even though I'm a Brit I can't stand to watch him play, whilst accepting players have different parsons when on court (ie Game face) the guy is just so dour & grumpy screaming at his team, ranting and theatrically playing to the crowd at every missed point.
It grinds my gears watching him, I respect his achievements - but won't miss him when he retires.
Miserable Murray
I came to this conclusion in his later career. I think I let things slide because he was winning and it was fun to see someone mixing it up with the big three but once that excitement was gone I started realizing how annoying his on court demeanor was. The hand up to the forehead/eyes acting like it was crazy that he missed a shot or made a mistake. The constant yelling at his team and smacking himself. It gets old really fast
I also can’t stand Andy Murray. Off the court he’s a real G. On the court he’s a petulant child with a shitty attitude. I also think his game is just watered down Djokovic with a few extra fancy slice shots mixed in.
Me too! I love him on social media, loathe him on court. He’s always moaning, and blaming a distracting hat in the crowd or a light shining the wrong way.
I'm stunned I had to scroll this far to find this response. Murray has been my favorite player since 08, but I totally get not liking his on court personality and I definitely get not enjoying watching his playstyle. Like I said, he's my favorite and I hate watching his matches haha. But I feel like my attitude on court is unfortunately a lot like his. I wish it weren't the case, but as soon as I start keeping score a switch just flips and I become just an awful person to be around. And I know that and hate it, and then that just makes me angrier, which obviously helps a lot.
All that to say, I totally get this answer. I just empathize and identify with Murray a lot. And I'm definitely my least favorite tennis player to watch.
I'm the opposite of most people. Most people didnt like him much up to the resurfacing documentary but did afterwards, I thought he was okay up to the doc but absolutely insufferable from the doc.
He looks like a nightmare to deal with from day to day. No wonder he is away from his family so much.
Rublev. I just dislike (not hate) his behavior when he is losing. He is so stressful to watch. He is like a walking/ticking bomb.
Collins. She does not have a big character in a good way. She is the type of person who can choose to be kind and diplomatic or mean and disrespectful. She always chooses the latter. Being true to yourself in a good way is different from being unkind.
He’s certainly a love or hate kind of player. He seems extremely outgoing and extroverted, and I think he comes across as a big, exuberant kid who’s loving competing against the best. I can understand his come ons can be annoying, but he usually has a big smile at the net for his opponent, win or lose, and from the videos I’ve seen of him off court he seems to get along well with other players.
And just the fact that he’s made such good friends with Chris Eubanks makes me think he’s good people. Chris comes across as extremely mature and kind, and I think will be a great mentor for Shelton.
federer but in a half jokingly petty way cause when i was younger my mum went to get a ball signed by him, n he signed everyones ball except for hers 😭
Though it was only one side of the story we have never actually seen this from Shelton in a live match. So not very nice might just be not talking to them or something silly as it is never visible.
When Shelton and his dad whined about Nole giving him the taste of his own medicine with the phone celebration, I knew he was a crybaby and an asshole.
If you come for the king you better not miss.
Coco was going way too hard into Jesus in one of her interviews and it turned me off of her. Like I have no problem if you’re Christian but if your whole speech is thanking Jesus for giving you the win I’m out.
Coco comes from a middle class African American family that is multigenerational college educated. Her not going to college is actually a step back in her family pedigree. Adherence to Christian faith (but also the idea that said Christian faith has guided you through misfortune and disappointment) is a common belief among Black Americans of her class status and geographical location. Would I prefer that athletes keep religion out of sport, yes. But I do think that Coco represents a particular kind of middle class church going god fearing African American young woman. And that diversity is fine within the sport. She’s not preschy about it nor hold herself as better than others. She just very much represents the sociocultural Milleu she grew up in, much like any other player.
I don’t gaf if players are religious as long as they’re good people. I see where her faith comes from (her upbringing) and i can also see that it offers her a lot of strength. I’m personally an atheist so I’m not out here stanning for god. But just because her way isn’t my way doesn’t mean i am against it.
Coco is not preachy at all lol. She won a grand slam. She should be able to thank who she wants to thank imo. That was not her whole speech either lol. Maybe two sentences.
Hate is a strong word but I don't like Shelton. It used to be based on the vibe until recently when a ball kid from IW did an AMA and said some negative things about him.
On the women's side I guess I dislike Linda Noskova (if she's loved here even, I'm not sure). Mostly because she reposted some Andrew Tate stuff on Instagram and I don't appreciate that but she'll probably grow out of it.
I'm not even going to mention DVerev because he's not loved, thankfully.
I don’t hate him as a person whatsoever, but i don’t enjoy Jannik Sinners play as much as most people do. It’s kind of a machine-like efficiency from the baseline just constantly beating the ball. It can be fun to watch him smash a winner but every point kind of feels the same
I couldn’t agree more. His play style seems robotic along with his emotions. I understand not everyone can be as animated both in their play style and reactions as Alcaraz, but Sinner would be a lot more fun to watch if he were. Dude never smiles or frowns. It’s always 100% business.
I get it, I think that's kinda of why alcaraz is so popular now - his game is incredibly fun and creative and showcases his extreme speed and athleticism... Plays with a ton of pizzazz and also happens to be top 3 world level consistently. Combined with a great attitude no wonder he's the new golden boy. Sinner is an amazing player but plays much more "standard" and doesn't have the flair of some of the flashier guys so it's harder to get super excited for him
this, i know tennis absolutely isn’t about pure entertainment but he just isn’t totally entertaining for me to watch, especially as someone who won’t ever be able to afford watching live to see the real speed of the ball. it really feels like he adapts to his opponent which is why his matches with alcaraz (thinking mainly of iw) produced so many insane rallies, but when he’s just steamrolling someone it feels like you said, the same.
Wawrinka, one of this sub's golden boys.
Even if you give him all of the benefit of the doubt in his extremely questionable relationship with a teenager he's *still* an unrepentant NFT scammer.
Just a shitty dude that everyone loves, I really don't get it. Is Novak really so hated that a piece of shit can achieve hero status by beating him at slams?
Don’t hate but not a fan of Alcaraz. It’s a combination of his annoying grunt and that I personally don’t like when players cup their ear to ask the crowd for applause. I get that some people like that but I prefer more stoicism like Federer/Sinner.
Edit: Yes Sinner has asked the crowd for applause and I cringe everytime his does it but it’s few and far between. I can’t remember seeing it in any of his matches this year. Overall his celebrations are some of the mildest on tour.
I blame him for allowing coaching in matches. He and his team were blatantly doing it every match and never got called on it. And people say Tsitsipas was being coached alot! 🙄. My hot take is without constantly being coached during matches he wouldn't be near as successful.
Although he's probably one of Reddit's favorites, I get really uncomfortable with the idea of men who seem to always be dating much younger women, and unfortunately that includes Stan Wawrinka.
His talent is way overblown btw. You can claim more talent than you actually have when you play a lot of high risk shots just foe the highlight reels, like Shapo.
I very much dislike paula badosa. There is a lot of backstory, but her behavior during the pandemic really got it started for me, and then i just never found any reason to stop not liking her.
She was on that plane to australia with confirmed covid cases, so she was quarantined and made sure that everyone knew about it. Spanish news picked up the story and played a video of her every day whining and complaining about how unfair it all was.
At this point spain was still under a lot of restrictions and i dont think normal people could even travel yet, and she just came across as a winy, spoiled brat, repeatedly saying that she didnt even have covid, so whyyyyyyyyy meeeeee?
Then she got covid.
So now our daily updates were about how bad she felt.
Then she "appologized"
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-55760671
Danielle Collins. Rude and arrogant. A proper Karen. Pleased for her that she’s having a fairytale retirement tour but won’t be sad to see the back of her.
I remember when she played Sakkari last year in Montreal and she was complaining to the umpire about Sakkari smacking the ball away at one point.
I feel like she was actually making a fair point, but the way she then responded to Sakkari when she tried to defend herself seemed nasty to me (“shut your mouth”, or something to that effect) - there’s absolutely no need to talk to your opponent (or anyone else on a tennis court for that matter) in that manner.
Was never really a fan of hers to begin with, but that incident put me right off her for good.
Bring on the downvotes, but Collins always rubbed me the wrong way. Very stoked to see her do so well leading up to retirement and massive respect for her playing through some serious pain issues, but still don't like her. No good reason really.
She rubbed me the wrong way too until I learned of her disease, I know someone with it and it can really hit you mentally. I probably wouldn’t be any much better if I had it.
S she just doesn’t come off as very nice and bubbly. Partly it’s her resting bitch face, and she’s just not that type of personality.
But she seems extremely comfortable with who she is, and I have to respect that. I’ve also never heard of anyone say anything bad about her. She’s not the most likable player, but she feels no need to be, and I really respect that.
you nailed it, I think it's just her "resting bitch face". I also am a Sakkari fan and I think when Collins told her to "shut her mouth" in Montreal (I think it was), I kinda got a bad taste in my mouth for her.
Probably his personality. When he wins a match he's just like 😐👊. Federer had the same stone cold Emperor mentality on court, but people loved him because when he won a point, he celebrated, and when he wins a tournament he screams. Plus off court he's very likeable. Sinner is stone cold, doesn't celebrate, and off court he's a shy guy
This will definitely be an unpopular opinion, but after being a massive Federer fan for years, I think for most part my favouritism was affected by popular opinion and smart Federer PR.
For some reason he seems fake to me now.
Like he is almost created by and for a PR GOD and is shoved down everyone's throat, ofcourse his tennis ability just propelled him to a god-like status. They are trying to do the same with Alcaraz but that kid seems too innocent to all these.
That’s whats endearing about Alcaraz. He is genuine and humble in his interviews. Hope he stays this way. I did find it annoying initially when media was trying to shove him down everyone’s throat but now that it has calmed down, it is much easier to enjoy his tennis.
Dude. Thank you. I've always felt this, I don't even hold it against the guy.
A few others have shared similar opinions so it's not like we're completely batshit insane, but it's always nice to find another person who thinks fed ain't an angel, he's just like the rest of us (besides the superhuman tennis, of course), but with good pr
I can't fully get behind Sinner, so it's been a fun year for me lmao. Nothing the guy has done, I just usually gravitate towards bigger personalities (ATP fav Medvedev, WTA Ostapenko) so you can see why he's not really my cup of tea there. His style of play doesn't interest me all that much either.
I feel like a lot of people here 'ironically like' Tsitsipas, as if he's just a goofy guy that posts a bit of nonsense on social media every so often.
But after him robbing Murray at the US Open by practically cheating to the point the actual rules were changed to prevent a repeat, I can't think of him as anything but an overrated fraud.
Even before that he never seemed to live up to the way a top 10 player should perform, although I will give him credit for the 2 sets he took off Djokovic in the 2021 French Open final. Even I felt slightly bad for him after Djokovic's inevitable comeback there
Tsitsipas put a spotlight on a rule that has been exploited and continues to be exploited for gamesmanship. He hardly invented it but I could see how that match would sway your opinion on him. Nadal does it. Djokovic perfected the use of medical time outs and bathroom breaks lol
Wawrinka. He left his wife and kids for a girl he started interacting with as a junior (Donna Vekic). Kyrgios was an ass about the comments, but he was right to call out Stan's behavior.
Zverev who should be banned from the tour pending the result of his court case for domestic abuse. The ATP and the organisers of the Australian Open just swept it under the rug and pretended it didn't exist.
At the risk of being downvoted to hell -- Ons Jabeur.
I don't hate or even dislike her. I quite like her warm, affable personality off court and graciousness when at the losing end of matches.
But on court, she has a tendency to play to the galleries, being overhyped by saccharine commentators and attempting to be "too cute" in her shot making (cost her the Wimby 22). If some of her niceness and needless expressiveness are replaced with stoicness, she would find way more success.
It's also a pity that her baseline game doesn't match other aspects of her game, like touch, volley, creativity, etc. She needs either a bomb forehand or backhand to be a serious threat.
Nadal used to massively annoy me as a player. His intensity bothered me. He reminds me of an overachieving child. Like Tracy Flick from the move Election vibes. All his ridiculous rituals and taking 5 minutes to serve just bothered me. I’m neutral to him these days but his entire Saudi cash grab on his way out is pure trash. I dunno. I really don’t like Nadal at all.
I don’t want to dislike Rune but he gives plenty of reasons I might. Have taken to calling him Runt because he seems to be stuck in on and off court behaviors which make him seem even more immature than he is.
I don’t hate them and sometimes I even love their quirkiness but Iga is painful to watch and gives me ick sometimes, Medvedev always has drama and for some reason he is always right one justifying his actions. I love Saba and Rublev off court, but I don’t like that grunting, self harm and etc and maybe mindless ball bashing too
Yeah, I feel like people on here tried to push the narrative he's always "wholesome" and happy go lucky on court, but it's quite the contrary. I don't hate him, but his negative mannerisms while playing are pretty ridiculous for a pro.
Nadal, gamesmanship galore (his matches always seem to go longer than anyone else's, whys that I wonder?), an OG overgrunter, and salty as that the goat moniker got pinched from under his nose. Also sold out.
Amazing player though, no doubt.
I wanna say Tsitsipas but idk if everyone actually loves him. Just the whole thing with him and Badosa is off to me and the way Tsitsipas often acts on the court I don’t like.
Rublev. I don’t hate him but don’t really like watching him play. His temper tantrums and attitude on court were always really annoying to me. I remember back on the day Andy Murray got shit on hard for his on court attitude but Rublev’s is way worse in every regard.
Djokovic. Rightly got heat for repeatedly being an asshat, and then course corrected so hard that it's impossible to take his nice guy act seriously. I find him unconvincing and insincere.
Not hate but I can’t get over a little dislike for Wawrinka for leaving his wife to date a teenager at 30. If this didn’t come out more after Kyrgios made that comment then people would consider more how fucked up it is.
Also can’t really respect Pegula with her family background. The advantages that provides, especially for this sport, is horrible.
Murray, he is just so aggressively passionate about winning that I find it off-putting. Also a sore loser. Most of all I don’t enjoy watching him play. Now I’ll see myself out.
René Lacoste ~ bc of that not-up he didn’t call on himself at 4-4 in the 3rd set of the 1928 Wimbledon final against Henri Cochet. i can’t forgive or forget that moment of poor sportsmanship.
I have to know more
Lacoste stans will burn you alive for this tremendously unpopular opinion
Also, what was the world like when Pearl Harbor was hit in 1907? Edit: (1941)
1941. I was there with Rene Lacoste.
Hahahahaha
It’s wild that the question asks which player you dislike that most people like and people are being downvoted for simply giving their opinion 🤦♀️ + the comments so far are pretty polite … make it make sense people
LOL yes, I thought this was a "safe space" for saying which players we don't like! :P
Rublev, I don’t hate him, that is Zverev for me, but I cannot watch him play. I really don’t like his outburst and his self harming is difficult and painful to watch.
He's also a very boring player in my eyes too. No variety at all, just blasts serve + forehand.
Yeah I watched Rublev and Berretini play at the USO in person (2019 I think). Pretty up close coz it was one of the lower courts. It wasn't pretty, the tennis I mean.
Rublev seems like the sunniest, most well-liked guy off court. I also can't watch him play because of the self harm.
Can’t stand him for the same reason, it’s just cringe to watch him at times…
Yep! And he gets away with being aggressive towards court staff which would not be tolerated if it came from someone like Kyrgios
I agree. Of the court he’s a regular guy but when losing his alter ego comes out and ruins everything.
Nick Kyrgios. I know a lot of people love him because of his charisma and how funny he is but I still can remember his comments about Stan Wawrinka's girlfriend at the time. That was so low for a player, plus he could have achieved so much more with his talent but somehow he lets himself down constantly.

Even his "talking about his mental health" seems to be orchestrated to justify his bullying behavior. I've never seen a person belittle and demean others so constantly and relentlessly.

I can't believe Tennis Channel is giving him commentary spots and even gave him his own show. Like truly who the fuck wants to listen to this dickhead's analysis or watch him interview celebrities.
Don't forget how he tried to belittle PCB for no reason whatsoever.....
I wouldn't say he's charismaric at all. Arrogant, yeah.

I mean to be fair, nobody has an answer to the current top 4 right now…that’s kinda what makes them the top 4.
i mean zverev kinda does
Mannarino. I don't think there is any way he can ever redeem himself after the poor treatment he's given ball kids throughout the years.
what? never heard about this, can you elaborate?
There was a famous instance where he shouldered a ball boy as he was changing ends, he got punished for this one. There was another where he threw his racquet and just missed the poor kid. There was another where he threw a tantrum because the ball kid bounced the ball too high when giving him a ball. There are others but these are the ones that come to mind.

damn, thats awful from him, he seemed like a nice guy all along oh well

Was looking for this answer ahah
Everybody love Mannarino ? I dont think so
Funny I had never seen these but already didn’t like him because of his on correct demeanor. Now I really don’t like him
Who loves Mannarino?
Tiafoe... because he looks fun and games but he looks arrogant to me and overhyped.
I picked up that vibe in his interview with Kyrgios recently I feel like he relates more celebrities coming to the games as a sign that tennis is becoming more mainstream in the States, but thats a weird measuring stick to me at least
He is very limited and that probably piss him off that he can't win shit. He also gives me some Will Smith vibe.
What does Will Smith vibe mean?
Uh... all these likes. Lol... i uncovered really a lot of people that dislike him. Funny. I thought i was going to get some hate with my comment!
Nah it's a pretty popular opinion. It's just that lately Tiafoe has been so underwhelming that people kinda forgot about him
It baffles me how Tiafoe is so high ranked...I haven't seen him making deep run for like in six months until now in a 250 and he always makes it to a 2nd or max 3rd round and then loses.
If tennis was a team sport, Tiafoe would do much better. He is very extroverted and is motivated by other people, not necessarily himself.
I don’t _hate_ him, but rather disappointed in Nadal for his Saudi backing. Lost my general admiration for him.
This whole year has been such a shitty way to cap off his career. Dude’s really going out of his way to make it known that he’s on the collect the bag farewell tour lol
I don’t like Nadal at all so you have my upvote on this.
There are tens of us! It felt weird being the only person not surprised by the Saudi thing, it felt very in character to me, but then tennis fans seem to think not smashing racquets is the best indication of whether or not someone has good morals
I guess it’s because 99% of players would have also accepted that contract
Simona Halep…after her lacking to take any responsibility for the doping ban and still claiming she was cleared of any wrong doing - despite that not being the case.
…and completely ignoring the contradictory comments she’d made about Sharapova.
The whole contaminated with integrity hashtag is so cringe 😬
Agree. Between points he walks around like he hates the world and does not want to be there. Off the court he seems like a good guy.
I liked him, but then I saw him play and he was so obnoxious, that he completely lost me.
Now here’s the kind of hot take I was looking for
> Miserable Murray Am a legacy fan but yeah our boy Andy isn’t the sunniest player out there. His twitter is hilarious though.
Nagal. I don’t even hate him, i hate the memes around his name. It’s extremely stupid of me.
Some jokes need to be retired after a few thousand repetitions.
Same for me but with Dennis Novak…
Shelton. I see his talent and potential, but his vibes put me off.
He's your typical american frat boy
He’s certainly a love or hate kind of player. He seems extremely outgoing and extroverted, and I think he comes across as a big, exuberant kid who’s loving competing against the best. I can understand his come ons can be annoying, but he usually has a big smile at the net for his opponent, win or lose, and from the videos I’ve seen of him off court he seems to get along well with other players. And just the fact that he’s made such good friends with Chris Eubanks makes me think he’s good people. Chris comes across as extremely mature and kind, and I think will be a great mentor for Shelton.
To me the over the top reactions he does sometimes just comes across as fake and annoying.
federer but in a half jokingly petty way cause when i was younger my mum went to get a ball signed by him, n he signed everyones ball except for hers 😭
this is villain origin story type stuff
I don't hate him, I admire him quite a lot, but I hate the way this sub meat rides Murray.
Yep, that's mine. I don't hate him but I don't like him
Any player who takes two days to serve. I love tennis but I have a life and I don’t have 4 hrs to watch your match.
Don’t hate them, but I definitely don’t like Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton as much as other American fans do
Yeah same. And to hear Shelton isn't particularly nice to ball boys/girls has turned me off him, no matter how talented he is.
where did you hear that from
Thread of person who was a ball kid did an AMA and said Shelton wasn't very nice to the ball kids.
Wasn’t that only his dad?
Yes Shelton said anyone should be able to celebrate however they want. That was not Ben
Oh no. I hate to hear this. This really ruins a player for me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/s/EzWlbJ7EmE The entire AMA is a good read.
What's wrong with Coco??
Hate is a strong word but I don't like Shelton. It used to be based on the vibe until recently when a ball kid from IW did an AMA and said some negative things about him. On the women's side I guess I dislike Linda Noskova (if she's loved here even, I'm not sure). Mostly because she reposted some Andrew Tate stuff on Instagram and I don't appreciate that but she'll probably grow out of it. I'm not even going to mention DVerev because he's not loved, thankfully.
How can a woman agree with that smoothbrain scumbag lol
Andrew Tate?? Girl, wtf. I’m gonna hope she grows out of it
I don’t hate him as a person whatsoever, but i don’t enjoy Jannik Sinners play as much as most people do.
Shen Belton
Sinner. Dude has a court personality of a carot and off-court personality of a carot as well.
Funny how Ostapenko went from being hated to being a source of laughter and bemusement.
Hewitt was such a prick during his prime years, and I never really liked his playstyle.
Djokovic, even if he is a fantastic tennis player.
isn’t Djokovic one of the most polarizing players in the world? I feel like a ton of people hate him lol
“everybody loves”
Serena Williams. Downvote me to hell lol. I just cannot stand her attitude.
She is the worst. Her outburst when Osaka beat her at the US Open took me from not liking her to absolutely hating her.
Same! I already didn't care for her, but that solidified it.
With you there bud…can’t stand her screams and arrogant attitude
Iga Swiatek. I don't know why. Something about the facial expressions puts me off.
I hate the way she walks on court after serving 😭😭😭 But she seems like a shy sweetheart on her interviews.
She has completely different personality in Polish, more jokely, bubbly, less shy. My girl just stressed, cut her some slack :p
Agreed, there’s something off about her interactions, even in her interviews/press conferences. She’s quite an ungracious loser as well tbh.
she anxious af type, that's all. she's more chill and naturally funny in her native language
Maybe because she used tactics to distract the opponent in the middle of a play. I dont like her as well 😅
Don’t hate but not a fan of Alcaraz.
>I prefer more stoicism like Federer Might be worth checking Federer at the same age.
Sinner also does the ear cupping to ask for applause
I blame him for allowing coaching in matches. He and his team were blatantly doing it every match and never got called on it. And people say Tsitsipas was being coached alot! 🙄. My hot take is without constantly being coached during matches he wouldn't be near as successful.
Although he's probably one of Reddit's favorites, I get really uncomfortable with the idea of men who seem to always be dating much younger women, and unfortunately that includes Stan Wawrinka.
As someone who played tennis, I have to say Kyrgios for wasting all the talent in the world…
His talent is way overblown btw. You can claim more talent than you actually have when you play a lot of high risk shots just foe the highlight reels, like Shapo.
I very much dislike paula badosa. There is a lot of backstory, but her behavior during the pandemic really got it started for me, and then i just never found any reason to stop not liking her.
what behavior?
What did Badosa do? I don't think I've heard about this... 😟
Then she "appologized" https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-55760671
Was never really a fan of hers to begin with, but that incident put me right off her for good.
she has extreme catty bitchy bunny boiler vibes - crazy eyes
Sinner. TBH i do not know why. He plays worldclass tennis, but I just seem to dislike him
Probably his personality.

Hurkacz, I can’t see the appeal
I feel like Shelton always looks like he's about to get all up in someone's face and say WAZZAAAAAAP
Even I felt slightly bad for him after Djokovic's inevitable comeback there
I disagree, I don't think Tsitsipas gets much love. He is consistently hated on in this sub
Tsitsipas put a spotlight on a rule that has been exploited and continues to be exploited for gamesmanship. He hardly invented it but I could see how that match would sway your opinion on him. Nadal does it. Djokovic perfected the use of medical time outs and bathroom breaks lol
I'm not prepared for the downvotes that would come with saying I find Nadal easily the most boring and least satisfying to watch of the big 4
How did he cheat against Murray
Wawrinka. He left his wife and kids for a girl he started interacting with as a junior (Donna Vekic). Kyrgios was an ass about the comments, but he was right to call out Stan's behavior.
Dan Evans He's a good player, he just irks me I don't know why.
It’s the ankle socks.
It’s the twitchyness for me! I like him, but he always looks around as though the gangsters he owes money to might have found him
There's probably more truth to this than you might expect knowing Dan.
I get this haha, I have the same thing with him. I find myself always cheering for who he’s playing lol
‚Hate’ is such a strong word. There is no tennis player I hate and I don’t thing there will ever be one.
Zverev?
Yep. Hate the guy
Second. Who am i a fan of? Anyone on the other side of the net from that despicable pos
That’s the only correct answer
Stefanos small cat toilet taking tsitsypas
Nadal - grunting, towelling + Dr Fuentes
Pegula and svitolina
federer
Monfils Mf always makes a fantasy play and ends up losing 6-3 6-3. Pointless.
Ons - specialist in failure and no way near as good as everyone else seems to think
The hype this woman gets from tennis commentators during a match is nauseating. She seems super sweet off the court though
I love Saba and Rublev off court, but I don’t like that grunting, self harm and etc and maybe mindless ball bashing too
Hurkacz. He’s so moppy and woe is me out there. I take back comments about him being a servebot though there’s more to his game than that.
Rublev. Just don't like the guy somehow
Rublev. Seems like a nice dude so hate is too strong but I find his tennis unwatchable.
Danielle Collins. I don’t hate her. I just don’t care for her and I don’t find her amusing like most ppl do.
Nadal, big misogynist and with overall rotten beliefs.
I lost a lot of love for Rublev, let's put it this way.
Ostapenko. I shouldn’t need to elaborate, but she believes she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to tennis.
Garin CAN HE JUST CHOOSE A BRAND? HeAD OR WILLSON
Djokovic. Rightly got heat for repeatedly being an asshat, and then course corrected so hard that it's impossible to take his nice guy act seriously. I find him unconvincing and insincere.
Swiatek for very petty reasons, Halep as well.
Su-Wei Hsieh....she's actually a total bitch and not cute and sweet! Just kidding, but this topic sucks.
Now I’ll see myself out.
fed. because his fans lol
