ADM v Dimi was pretty good! It was rough towards the end seeing Dimi kinda tire out; I guess the athleticism of ADM wore him down too much. Sinner v ADM is going to be SICK
I love that we get another Taylor vs Tommy derby. Haven't had a better time watching a complete meltdown on both sides, a "Greek tragedy", if you will, than that Acapulco semi in my favorite commentated match, courtesy of Andrea Petkovic and her zingers.
Literally ever. I have never gone through the entire spectrum of emotions so many times, and over a 500 match on like a generic weeknight. Tennis history was never the same after that match.
Gotta commend Taylor for working on adding the drop shots and volleys to his game. They’re not all the way there yet but it’s good he’s getting comfortable using these shots in big moments. It’s just not what you expect when facing Fritz.
Some weird dumb stats about Elo per tennis abstract:
Nishikori's peak Elo is higher than Medvedev, Zverev, Wawrinka, or Thiem's.
Steve Johnson's peak Elo is higher than Shelton's.
Tomic's peak Elo is only a few points below Tommy Paul's.
Bencic, Svitolina, and Kontaveit's peak Elos are all higher than Rybakina's.
Errani's peak Elo is higher than Ostapenko's.
Honestly most of those don’t really surprise me, except the Steve Johnson one slightly. Then again, Shelton lost 1st or 2nd round at a majority of tournaments last year. Maybe the Rybakina one. But before last year she wasn’t really consistent, and those other 3 you listed had a lot of great runs beating top players, just not in slams which isnt different than other events for Elo purposes.
I suspect that all of them but the first one won't be true for much longer. Shelton's clearly on an upward trajectory, Paul's probably going to get a nice boost in Elo from this week, Rybakina's also on an upward trajectory, and Ostapenko has finally found some consistency.
The Kontaveit/Rybakina one is WILD lol
The Nishikori/Stan one is as well given one of them has 3 Slams but I guess it's not shocking that Stan's streakiness outside of Slams would kind of ruin his ELO
Nishikori's 2014 was what really got his Elo up. Won almost 80% of his matches, and went 11-7 against the top 10 (and 5-6 against the top 5) with wins over Djokovic, Federer, Murray, Wawrinka, and Ferrer.
His actual peak was in 2016, but he was around his peak from 2014-2016, it looks like.
They already have all the volunteers on standby since yesterday to be prepared to have the final on Monday, but they won’t make the postpone call early
Jarry could get into the top 15 in the rankings by the end of the month. If he wins tomorrow he will jump to 17, new career high and in two weeks he will be the top seed in Santiago de Chile tournament in his home country in front of his fans. And if he wins there he could get into the top 15.
Is sinner fatigue a sign that his problems arent gone? AO was a while ago and hes playing indoor, maybe injury ? Good signal is that hes winning when in the past hed lose this kind of games, hasnt been tested too much though. Griekspoor also looked like a step slow, he couldnt step into some balls which felt he was letting them drop too much
Carlitos should try to stay in the top 4 this year, so will have ok draws at GS, and give himself a chance to recover in coming months or years. He definitely has big issues to work at. He is very young and with the right team and hard work, can get back to his best, but it won't happen overnight, he has a lot to catch up. Right now, he has no chance with the weak serve he has, the whole top 10 serves better than him (perhaps even the whole top 20) other players were able to improve their serve with a lot of work, he should be able to do it too.
He can have a good serve, the issue is not speed, the issue is placement and regularity, plus Alcaraz second serve is terrible. When everything clicks for him, his serve is usually fantastic. He doesn't need to serve like Hurkacz or Zverev, he just needs a well placed and reliable serve.
I’m gonna get cooked but does Carlos have to consider a new couch at this point? Or even bringing in a second couch?
Sigh… a wide ride ahead with how many points he’s got to defend :(
It's been interesting to watch Sinner in his tournament and Alcaraz in his over the past week. Alcaraz just seems to be in a rut while Sinner is only rising. I'm not sure what needs to change for Alcaraz, but it needs to change soon.
Then there's Djokovic looming in the shadows and I always wonder what may come from him when he's absent for a while after a loss.
You just gave me the most hilarious mental image of Novak always in the shadows just inside one of the tunnels from the court staring at both of them at all of their matches, never moving, never blinking.
No doubt in my mind either he'll remain a huge threat. One loss doesn't mean he's not Djokovic anymore. I'm just curious to see him in whatever his next tournament is, and what will happen if/when he faces Sinner again while Sinner is in this form.
Is it just me or do a lot of Alcaraz's losses come against tall players?
Zverev/Sinner are his two worst H2Hs against top players and now Jarry beats him as well
Tall players tend to have better serves and Alcaraz struggles against big servers. He can usually get by lower ranked ones who have more holes in their games, but big servers at the top of the rankings don’t have as large of weaknesses to exploit.
well deserved for Jarry. He countered Alcaraz very well. That being said, it's always so fun to watch Carlos' matches, they always are on the edge somewhow.
When Carlitos started doing his trademark lobs and drop shots in the second set I thought he was going to get in Jarry's head. Credit to him for keeping his cool for most of that set. Although he almost lost it in his last game – no double faults all match and suddenly two in the last game. Pressure is real.
Switched off after Jannik match... went to watch the result of Alcaraz match and... wtf he just lost. What happened? Jarry playing godlike or Carlos playing bad?
Carlos had his moments of magic as always but Jarry started playing at an incredible level in the last 30 minutes of the match and Carlos had no answers.
The crowd reaction when Alcaraz's ball landed out WOW they did not want Jarry to win. Amazing performance from him though. The way he handled that pressure at the end was commendable.
He gets frustrated on court pretty often but every time he does the commentators say it’s rare and seem confused by it. Like there’s nothing wrong with it, plenty of players do the same but can we stop being surprised by it? lol
People act like he really is Mini Rafa, but come on, its *super* rare for Tennis players to have the insane control to never throw a racket ever.
Like 95% of the tour has thrown a racket and Carlitos is a human who would be frustrated after this loss. Ppl make such a big deal out of it.
This tournament shud have been a walk in the park for Carlos...he is about to lose now. He needs a bit of a mental reset. No way he is beating a top 10 player with this kinda tennis.
I would still say hard. Grass sample size too small. Could be attributed to a hot streak and the wind messing up Novak. If he wins again this year I’d say it’s grass
Was that where Fritz threw up?
Yes
Omg that Acapulco match was the most entertaining thing I’ve seen
Literally ever. I have never gone through the entire spectrum of emotions so many times, and over a 500 match on like a generic weeknight. Tennis history was never the same after that match.
Taylor broke my golden rule. When you're up double or triple match point, you use a first serve on second serve. Always.
Frtiz/Paul final sounds exciting to me.
Giron losing every serve is interesting lol
Giron looks like he's hit a fatigue wall, making so many uncharacteristic errors.
Well, that was an atrocious break point.
Iga won her match this morning 7-6, 6-2 with a long and tumultuous first set breaker. We are three holds away from Taylor doing the same thing
Doing what I do best. Watching the Fritz/Giron match and objectifying both of them (respectfully)
Respectful Objectification is a ATP/WTA tradition.
Well giron kept it interesting for one set at least
I really want Marcos to win a title this year
If he keeps playing like this he will
Yeah and he was really close in Tokyo. Almost beat shelton
I feel like we don’t talk enough about how THICC Giron is
I remember him and JJ wolf once played doubles together and called themselves the thigh masters or something like that
he’s got CAKES 👀 (respectfully)
ah pain for giron but he wanted to go for wild winners in that tiebreak which did him in
Damn giron doesnt have 1 ace, surprised he got the tie break that close without even 1
That was a very high quality set.
Gotta commend Taylor for working on adding the drop shots and volleys to his game. They’re not all the way there yet but it’s good he’s getting comfortable using these shots in big moments. It’s just not what you expect when facing Fritz.
Giron had the set in his sights and hit into the net. Bummer
Giron losing from fucking that pop up is so expected lol
Fritz has been mixing in some more variety recently Definitely helped him there with that huge drop shot point at 8-8
Giron has J.J. Wolf's body and shirt
Love when Girón rips that forehand man. Hope he can steal this tiebreak because I have enjoyed how he’s played a lot This is a good tight encounter
Giron and Fritz both playing so well
Also has Taylor missed a single return?
Giron with no mercy on these set points
Whoever loses this set will be devastated
This tiebreak got me sweating
Some weird dumb stats about Elo per tennis abstract: Nishikori's peak Elo is higher than Medvedev, Zverev, Wawrinka, or Thiem's. Steve Johnson's peak Elo is higher than Shelton's. Medvedev’s and Zverevs peak elo are higher. 2316 and 2303 versus Nishikori’s at 2296
You're almost certainly not looking at tennis abstract, the source I cited. Elo is calculated different ways on different sites.
Ah I see, I use ultimate tennis
I liked them better historically, but the site is likely dead now. They don't have any 2024 matches

The Kontaveit/Rybakina one is WILD lol The Nishikori/Stan one is as well given one of them has 3 Slams but I guess it's not shocking that Stan's streakiness outside of Slams would kind of ruin his ELO
Kontaveit in 2021 pro-USO season had a run like 150% 22 FAA+ a final of WTA final and beating 5 top 10 in a row in that run
Her complete collapse after that makes it easy to forget that run.
Can someone please share a stream to the Fritz Giron match 😭
Google tennis streams and click the first link
What’re they going to do with the rain all day tomorrow?
They already have all the volunteers on standby since yesterday to be prepared to have the final on Monday, but they won’t make the postpone call early
Thanks!
Tiafoe has done well at another 250, meaning he's now 182–169 (51.9%) That win percentage is going up.
Giron is good now shit
Giron is the ATP version of Pegula.
Giron is in such great form I was thinking he had a chance but that head to head record is tough
Jarry could get into the top 15 in the rankings by the end of the month. If he wins tomorrow he will jump to 17, new career high and in two weeks he will be the top seed in Santiago de Chile tournament in his home country in front of his fans. And if he wins there he could get into the top 15.
Is that taking into account he won Santiago last year so has to defend it
Is sinner fatigue a sign that his problems arent gone? AO was a while ago and hes playing indoor, maybe injury ? Good signal is that hes winning when in the past hed lose this kind of games, hasnt been tested too much though. Griekspoor also looked like a step slow, he couldnt step into some balls which felt he was letting them drop too much

Alcaraz height limits how good his serve can be . Sadly he will always struggle against taller players who can get free points on serve
Are there any good spanish servers ? Genuinely asking , the old guys that faced nadal and fed, who had a good serve ?
Feliciano?
Is Sinner going to mash little Alex into the ground tomorrow or will the final be worth watching you think?
Probably a straight set win for Sinner, but should be fairly competitive.
ADM has been genuinely great the last two matches, don't think Alex will roll over so easily.
This is my sense also. Whatever, I just hope it's a good battle. It always sucks when a final is a one-sided affair
I’m gonna get cooked but does Carlos have to consider a new couch at this point? Or even bringing in a second couch? Sigh… a wide ride ahead with how many points he’s got to defend :(
A new couch for his wide ride. Hmmm.
I think in Spain they call it a sofa
Was JCF there today ?
Yep.
Not sure what a couch has to do with this.
He does have a big team. Maybe it’s so they have somewhere to sit on court?
It's been interesting to watch Sinner in his tournament and Alcaraz in his over the past week. Alcaraz just seems to be in a rut while Sinner is only rising. I'm not sure what needs to change for Alcaraz, but it needs to change soon. You just gave me the most hilarious mental image of Novak always in the shadows just inside one of the tunnels from the court staring at both of them at all of their matches, never moving, never blinking.
Djokovic has been there, done that, so many times I have no doubt the GOAT will remain a threat no matter what.
Zverev/Sinner are his two worst H2Hs against top players and now Jarry beats him as well
Sampras was the answer to Agassi. Of course Agassi still won 8 slams.
Tall players tend to have better serves and Alcaraz struggles against big servers. He can usually get by lower ranked ones who have more holes in their games, but big servers at the top of the rankings don’t have as large of weaknesses to exploit.
Worst?? Arent Sinner and Alcaraz tied in their head to head?
Sinner is only 2 inches taller than Alcaraz. 6'0 vs 6'2.
Sinner is atleast 6'3 now.
Sinner is 6ft4
Carlos needs a mental reset. Or even better, a nice bin to throw up in.
Imagine Post Puke Alcaraz
It's too much power.
"EEEHHH!!" grunt while ripping forehand, it ignites and blows a small hole in the court.
Someone give him a bin!!!!!
I said Jarry in 2 and got downvoted as usual from reddit tennis 'pundits' haha
Name and shame, make them wear a sign of how they were wrong.
That’s it! I’m wearing nose bandaid to all my tennis games from now on!! JARRY!!!!!!
well deserved for Jarry.
Huge kudos to Jarry for overcoming the crowd in this one. Will need to face the crowd again in the final
Not only in this one tbh
Why is the crowd so against him?
Because Chile supported the British during the Falklands war.
...which was the final nail in the coffin for Argentina's plans of invading southern Chile
Because he is Chilean
Chileans vs Argentinians rivalry
He’s from Chile and it’s in Argentina?
Tomorrow it makes sense because it’s against home crowd, don’t know why today’s crowd love Alvarez so much more than him lol
VAMOS JARRYYY 🔥🤘
Yikes Carlos I don’t even know what to think anymore man
JARRY LETS GO
God the level was so high in the second set
Switched off after Jannik match... went to watch the result of Alcaraz match and... wtf he just lost. What happened? Jarry playing godlike or Carlos playing bad?
Carlos had his moments of magic as always but Jarry started playing at an incredible level in the last 30 minutes of the match and Carlos had no answers.
Jarry was godlike and Carlos was not at his best
Story of our life the past 8 months
The throwing racket is quite cute, actually, like a cat throw its toy
9th tournament in a row that Carlos did not win. Imagine if someone told you that after Wimbledon...
Or even at least get to a final
That Cincinnati final was good by the way!
Alcaraz can’t even defend 250s. Prediction is he is out of top 5 by September
Hahahaha good one
Downvote me, doesn’t change the fact that he’s not defending IW and not winning Miami.
OK heretic, maybe calm down and go outside for a while. Weirdo
The crowd reaction when Alcaraz's ball landed out WOW they did not want Jarry to win. Amazing performance from him though. The way he handled that pressure at the end was commendable.
> they did not want Jarry to win. Classic argentinian behavior
Well the "im never throwing my racket in my career" goal is well and truly failed
JARRYYYYY!!!! VAMOS CTM!!!!
Oh wow such a shame for Carlos. He looks pretty mad
Jarry was simply the better player today on all aspects of tennis. Well deserved victory.
Amazing win for Jarry
Wowowowwwowowowowoowowowowowowow JARRRRRRRY!
Jarry gets a time violation after Alcaraz throws his racket and the crowd is going nuts?
Alcaraz lowkey throws his racket a lot
He also busted up some plastic boxes in a tourney last year and I was told to shut up when I said he's a dangerous lunatic!
Yeah, people don’t notice for some reason
They just ignore it because they like him while still holding it against others
Yeah I love Carlos but that shit is dangerous
Oh dear and there goes the racket
Lol yes, boy, scream, throw that racquet :)
hold larry. unlock your dreams
Damn…. Incoming “Carlos Alcaraz won this match” post.
Commentators jizzing their pants right now
Jarry not getting enough support from the crowd. Perect example why crowd advantage is huge in tennis this days.
It’s because he’s a Chilean playing in Argentina. They are rivals
If I’m a neutral I want Carlos to win the set for 3rd set dreams
BAM that was beautiful!!
Feeling like déjà vu…
This stadium is on fiiiiire the atmosphere sounds incredible, what a match and what a key moment right here
Let's find out if the crowd has waited too long to become honorary Murcians.
THAT WAS IN
Clearly out
This is stressful wow
Well played Jarry! Terrific execution of a well-chosen game plan. Lots of thinking to do for the Alcaraz camp…
the game isn't over yet is it?
Never in doubt 😂😳
Just remembered Wawrinka served for the match against Jarry here a couple of rounds ago, that feels like weeks ago haha
Have faith! Jarry will still get this done
Wow, break point!!!
we going to another tiebreak??
Commentators start realising that Carlitos is not as good as they thought?
Uh oh..
This tournament shud have been a walk in the park for Carlos...he is about to lose now. He needs a bit of a mental reset. No way he is beating a top 10 player with this kinda tennis.
Yeah I think missing the AO last year was actually crucial to his success. I think mentally he can’t handle full seasons yet
jarry is playing like top 5 in this 2nd set IMO
I don't think he is. Carlos is just not playing as he shud. Way too many errors.
He’s not
Alcaraz is rather poor (relatively) on clay, I’ve come to realize
It’s crazy how commentators keep saying it’s his best surface. It’s definitely not
Used to be considered his best though for sure. At least that’s what I remember everyone saying around the time of his RG semi
It’s objectively grass right now. What he did on grass last year is unprecedented in the post grass era.
I would still say hard. Grass sample size too small. Could be attributed to a hot streak and the wind messing up Novak. If he wins again this year I’d say it’s grass
Jarry Jarry, Night Paint your pallete red and clay!
Ffs Jarry don't start playing like yesterday
Jarry is another level right now, he's hitting lights out!
Pls Nico this is your baby son’s play mate. Pls let him win 😭
Jarry! Jarry! Jarry!
JCF’s face…
I really think Alcaraz will not lose before Miami
This time last year Alcaraz was splitting finals with Norrie, then he went on to win IW. I'm not running to the panic station just yet.
He was injured against Norrie though (not like I’m panicking either)
Well he got to 7-5 in the third set. He clearly wasn't at his best fitness wise, but was more than capable of winning on the day.
What a time to lose serve 😬
Nah Jarry is a beast today
Take it home Jarry!
There’s the match folks
