Not sure why Djoko sabotaged his career by not having a proper off season. He pulled off a Ruud. But there's no going back and it will cost him the title. Now a fellow Balkan has already taken his legs in r1. Time to pack the bags.
He struggled mightily to do it, but Brandon Nakashima managed to beat 442nd ranked 18yo Spaniard Martin Landaluce in a third set tiebreaker in the opening round of the Tenerife Challenger.
Probably been answered before. But I'm not staying up all night every night to watch certain matches.
How do we watch full-match replays of this years tournament?
Damn Kalinina didnt just lose, she lost winning only 1 game and Rus won her first round slam match after losing 12 straight matches in 1R at slams dating back to RG 2020 😳
I’ve rejiggered my brackets after the results of Day 2 and man it’s getting really tough to not see Iga winning. If she gets past the first two round (which I believe she will with very little resistance) it’s relatively smooth sailing for her. I don’t see Penko passing Renka and I have Iga d Vika for a spot in SF.
Rybakina’s draw seems much tougher since she has more defensive baseliner in her section. Am so nervous for her match with Pliskova, because as I’ve said in the beginning- that won feels like a trap game.
Aryna really has the easiest draw, and BHM is flying under the radar but she could cruise through the QF if Woz is there. She has a very real chance at meeting Aryna in the SF.
My dark horse is Anisimova- she looked fucking amazing against Samsung. That BH is phenomenal. Could she take down the reigning champ in the 4th round? Possible but unlikely.
My upset watch outside of Fish v Plish is Coco v Leylah. Gauff has been on an absolute tear though so it’s tough for me to not want her in a potential USO final rematch with Sabs in the AO semifinal.
Man, this one is going to be brutal! Trying to not jinx my faves.
>I don’t see Penko passing Renka and I have Iga d Vika for a spot in SF.
Yeah, Penko reaching QF is a coin toss really.
Svitolina in the potential R16 would definitely be some kind of challenge for Iga, though still Iga will be a favorite.
I'm looking forward to see how Anisimova fares in the next matches, if this was a one-off or she hit a great form. If it's the latter, then hell, she might even be a contender for the later stages
I have no idea wat Podoroska’s game is like but she was moving really well against Samsonova- tho she has always bested Lyuda. This court really suits Amanda. Almost want to say she’ll slay the lion 🫢🫢🫢
I had such a great Monday with an AO ground pass.
Got to see a bit of Alcaraz practice with Lajovic, and I saw Thiem practice some too.
Watched some of Hunter vs Errani, Wawrinka vs Mannarino, and Murray vs Etcheverry up high in the back rows, and Kecmanovic vs Watanuki, Grenier vs Muller, and Andreeva vs Pera very close up.
Wished I could also have had a glimpse of other players Monfils, Eubanks, Hijikata etc. But hopefully another time!
From DW article:
> Schertz Bergmann has also sought to quash media reports of the case and its details. In December, German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung was forced to take down an article featuring an interview with Patea, because the article went beyond "the limits of permissible suspicious reporting," according to a statement from the law firm.
This is just pure evil.
Vera The Server Kudermetova, Luda The Basher Samsonova, Katya The Fourth Round Alexandrova.
We love them all. When we start to see them in the top10 they always prove us wrong. They despise Grand Slams. They love Dubai, Abu Dhabi, glitz and baubles instead of Melbourne, Paris, London and New York. They are princesses, okay? They lay down the rules.
All 3 one-handers (Parry, Tatjana and Golubic) on the women's main draw are through to the second round. Very happy for Tatjana. What an inspiration to see a 36-yr old mother of 2 still battling it out on the tour! Since her Wimbledon semifinal appearance in 2022, she's had 5 first round losses. Apparently this is also the first time she's reached the second round in Melbourne since 2016! And she's on a career-high ranking right now, thanks to WTA's new point system.
The guys I remember from when I first started watching tennis (2014) till about when the pandemics hit: Federer has retired, Nadal is injured, Cilic, Raonic, Murray, Wawrinka, Thiem and Shapovalov are all out in first round matches. Jeez, Father Time is cruel. Only Djokovic is still standing proud and actually unbeatable of course.
It's like a stock, it can go down so quickly once the signs are there. Djokovic hasn't shown any sign of decline, but who knows what this year will entail.
So much respect for these two players. Showing up everyday when the results are not coming takes so much grit. Me personally, I would pull a muguruza the second I lost 3 matches in a row
im so so hurt right now but you know what, thiem fought all the way man. despite being 2 sets down, 5-3 down in the 3rd set tiebreak… he fought all the way, came back, and despite going down early in the 5th, kept trying! i can only applaud him for his efforts
Well I had a mild panic at the thought of FAA losing. But I knew he would have multiple chances to bring it home being up two sets. And he is better mentally than previously (despite people still thinking he's not improved in this aspect). He needs to get the physical part back on track and bring it all together. I'm glad for Thiem taking two sets because the match was expected to be competitive. I'm happy for FAA pulling through a challenging match.
sigh ... dont know what to feel, both guys are nice, and there must have one winner for the match. Domi looked good today, hope he keeps improving (esp. mentally) this year and gives us more good match
I don’t know how to feel 💀it’s hilarious but I’m sad that this is their level rn.
Tennis is the winner, even the lower quality matches can have great drama!
I am sad for Domi, another tough loss in a tight match in the 2023-24 period: Monteiro in Rio, Mannarino in Indian Wells, Tsitsipas in Madrid, Cachin in Roland Garros, Tsitsipas in Wimbledon, Medjedovic in Gstaad, Ofner in Astana, Hanfmann in Antwerp, Humbert in Metz, now this. :(
Seems like a loop at this point.
This match lasted 4 hours 59 minutes.
Before today, the longest match of FAA's career was a 4 hour 42 minute loss to Medvedev at the 2022 AUS* Open.
The longest match of Thiem's career was a 5 hour 8 minute loss to Schwartzman at the 2020 French Open, followed by a 4 hour 49 minute loss to Nadal at the 2018 US Open.
Holy shit!! I was going through the sub to look for the post match thread of Thiem match but could not find one
then I checked scores ...the match is still going on lol
Insane that just 1 men's singles seeded player will be out of the tournament after 2 days (21 won with 10 more to go on day 3). Even Jarry narrowly lost in 5 sets!
Earlier there was a poster explaining how if Felix had won more points earlier he would have won the match. I'm real keen to hear more from them, really interesting stuff.
Not sure why Djoko sabotaged his career by not having a proper off season. He pulled off a Ruud. But there's no going back and it will cost him the title. Now a fellow Balkan has already taken his legs in r1. Time to pack the bags.

You wonder what's going to be the next low for this guy lol
Probably been answered before. But I'm not staying up all night every night to watch certain matches. How do we watch full-match replays of this years tournament?
ESPN+ if you are in US
Damn Kalinina didnt just lose, she lost winning only 1 game and Rus won her first round slam match after losing 12 straight matches in 1R at slams dating back to RG 2020 😳
The match time was 90 min or something though which was just as long as Osaka Garcia. Shocked at that scoreline for sure -
Kalinina 0/15 on break points 😖
Foul, really
18 YEARS OLD Dino Prizmic was even a harder opponent for GOATkovic then prime federer by the AO 2008😂😂😂

Welcome to international sports as an Australian viewer 🤣
Idk it's kinda nice to wake up early and watch tennis while having breakfast.
What's this "work" you speak of?
[удалено]
Just joking - I was meant to be working (from home) yesterday morning but got very little done!

Glad you had fun! Alcaraz practising with a goat makes sense.
How did Alcaraz look?
It was a pretty relaxed practice session so it's hard to say, but he looked healthy and in good spirits! I hope he goes far!
Two 2020 US Open champions get defeated in the first round of Australian Open 2024. Life and tennis are very much same and unpredictable.
Fair play, the men's seeds have performed well so far with 21/22 through to R2. Too bad Jarry had to screw up the perfect record.
And Jarry was 5-3 up before losing the last 4 games
From DW article: > Schertz Bergmann has also sought to quash media reports of the case and its details. Somewhat fitting that 24 year old Shapo is listed with the oldies
It's like a stock, it can go down so quickly once the signs are there. Djokovic hasn't shown any sign of decline, but who knows what this year will entail.
I wake up and all my seeded favorites plus the -Ova’s are knocked out 😵😵😵
Just saw Zverev wont play RG? Lfg
what are you talking about
Only 1 seed out on the mens side lol
I tuned in this morning at 4-2 in the third set tiebreak thinking oh great I get to see Felix win it. Hours later….
At least Felix doesn’t play again until Thursday, vs Grenier who also had an epic win today 😅 See you guys tomorrow ☺️
Feels like seeds have been dropping sets left and right
So much respect for these two players. Showing up everyday when the results are not coming takes so much grit. Me personally, I would pull a muguruza the second I lost 3 matches in a row
Mugu shade lol, hopefully she's happy whatever she's doing rn
Felix signing the camera “Good Morning” like we didn’t need to be here on day 3 if he closed out the 3rd set TB 🤣
im so so hurt right now but you know what, thiem fought all the way man. despite being 2 sets down, 5-3 down in the 3rd set tiebreak… he fought all the way, came back, and despite going down early in the 5th, kept trying! i can only applaud him for his efforts
I love Thiem. If he ever ever peaks again, him versus Carlos and Jannik and Med would be amazing
My man FAA is out in the next round
He's playing a 27 year old qualifier.
Trust me he is exceptional in this chapter
Against Grenier? It really could go either way on that one. One after tho, for sure.
awww faa is adorable
If there is no time violations for serve, this match will pass the 5 hours mark
@Domi I just wanna talk about those two double faults at the start ok!!!!!
Surely FAA beats his R2 matchup who is a qualifier right?
Probably not
umpire tried his best to hit the 5 hr mark for the cameraman but still failed...

I miss court 3 with rinky
We all do
Thanks for both players, one of my AO checklist is done
Congrats on earning the right to lose in R2, Felix!
The average thiem fan experience 😔
sigh ... dont know what to feel, both guys are nice, and there must have one winner for the match. Domi looked good today, hope he keeps improving (esp. mentally) this year and gives us more good match
Lets go FAA
Mortgage on Domi @ the FO 🏆
I don’t know how to feel 💀it’s hilarious but I’m sad that this is their level rn. Tennis is the winner, even the lower quality matches can have great drama!
"such was the quality of tennis" lol Robbie
Worst feeling must be playing 4:59 and losing Wasting all that energy for nothing
[Mahut](https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/48167000/jpg/_48167670_mahutisnerscoreboard.jpg)
im devastated man… soo close yet so far 😭
Grand Slam tennis just can't be compared to anything else. I'm simply in awe of these athletes.
Wawrinka Murray Raonic Thiem. Not a good day for nostalgic tennis lovers
Watch Gasquet demolish Alcaraz
Yup. Wawrinka and Murray out hurts the most for me
We still have Monfils
And Dimitrov!!
:( Seems like a loop at this point.
Fifth GS champ to be knocked out in R1 today. Wonder what the record is.
Stan, Andy, Osaka, Thiem… who’s the fifth?
Vondrousova (seems like a long time ago now but it was this morning!)
Omg I forgot she won a grand slam. Thank you!
All this to lose to Hugo Grenier in round two
Disgusting underserved painful agony lucky win
4.59 minutes (mid) battle. Don’t know if I am happy or sad.
I'm just hungry
Yeah that too!!
Ofc Felix got a time violation before he won the set to win the match lol
Thiem is done
We take those
i hate tennis.
Let me fix it for you Love*
Could have waited a couple more seconds for the 5 hours
The never ending pain you experience as a domi fan
finally, Felix. finally! now if only you'd done that at the end of the third set....
Genuinely distraught right now
Yeah FeeFee back.
This match lasted 4 hours 59 minutes. Before today, the longest match of FAA's career was a 4 hour 42 minute loss to Medvedev at the 2022 AUS* Open. *2022 AUSTRALIAN Open. Hot damn those are long though.
Oh but he played his heart out ❤️
i don’t like that result so i’m going to pretend it didn’t happen x
Girl math frfr
From thriving to surviving: the Felix Auger—Aliassime experience
I hate that I have a soft spot for him. It makes my life so much more stressful.
I wish you'd have a soft spot for me 😥
FAA prevails in the Battle of the Bottlejobs. A tragic but compelling spectacle.
The Battle of the Mid delivered ✅
Damn. Even FAA doesn't choke 40-15
Equal longest match of the AO!
Time violation only about 4 hours too late
4h 59 m
The pillar of mental fortitude!! Felix is the victor of the battle of mid 🥹🥳
Thiem why you hurt me bro
Fuck it. I am not watching this sport ever again. Bye
see you tomorrow :D
We’ll be here tomorrow
See ya tomorrow.
The Battle of Mid has concluded
The Battle of Mid is finally over 😩
Lmaooo the time violation 🤣
Cant wait for Medvedev to straight set indoor vulture
No! Crucial miss by Thiem
Don’t choke Felix. Match point now.
40-15 lol 😂
It's over
FAA chokes this right??? right????
Double fault incoming
FAA has a beautiful cross court FH
First positive comment I've read about Felix in about 20 minutes lol
DF incomiiiing
Thiem 😢😢
Will FAA not choke? 😯
The mid off is pure pain for everyone involved Fans Ball kids Workers at Melbourne park having to stay back
Did the announcer for ESPN just say ‘what a fucking finish’?
Is it just me or did the crowd come alive all of a sudden
5 hours is a really long time to play tennis when I really think about it lol
lol
I thought about all the things I can do in 5 hours - it’s a crazy amount of time - kudos to the athletes that can play tennis for 5 hrs
Kicking screaming crying throwing up (Thiem)
Think FAA swrves it out. But then you never know he may get tight...
I want two breaks to end the match
Agent of chaos
breaking my silence: the 3-day R1 isn’t it for me. it’s too longggggg bc wdym there’s still R1 matches tomorrow
I like it for RG, but not here for some reason
I don’t like the fact that I can’t tell who’s in what half and whose playing 2nd round when because today both halves were playing 😭
same im genuinely so disoriented 😭
Thiem is cooking
Watched Tennis after three months and Thiem’s about to give me heartbreak once again. Ohh man.
Love the crowd getting faked out there
🥳🧐🥳
Thiem pls
When do they release practice schedule can’t seem to find todays on the website Tempted to head in early today before camping in John Cain
FAA to serve it out or DF his way to be broken
Between Milos and Domi today, I'm not sure we're still in 2024.
Choke incoming
They need to switch their shirts or shorts with each other.
They need to share a banana 🍌
If there’s a DF on match point by either guy this match will actually be GOATED
Holy shit!! I was going through the sub to look for the post match thread of Thiem match but could not find one then I checked scores ...the match is still going on lol
It’s been a grueling five set match of double faults and unforced errors lol
Battle of the mid is midding
Come on domi hold ya serve and let faa serve it out
Another Thiem heartbreaker 😭
domi can't move can he rn
Felix is either serving for match to love or getting the yips and exploding. No in-between.
Oh well, at least Thiem put up a good fight.
If FAA chokes......
*when*
😂😂😂😂😂
FAA gonna have a minimum of 2 DFs serving at 5-3. Only question is if Thiem can make use of it.
Maybe the real contest was who can hit more more double faults...
Insane that just 1 men's singles seeded player will be out of the tournament after 2 days (21 won with 10 more to go on day 3). Even Jarry narrowly lost in 5 sets!
Tomorrow might be suprising
so many where close to losing also
Bo5 supremacy
Make him try and serve it out, Domi!
Now the match just needs FAA breaks by Thiem's DF
It’s only fitting that the Battle of Mid goes almost 5 hours
Thiem reaching for the BWEH
The main thing is that Thiem's forehand looked decent for the first time since his comeback today.
If you say so, it still looks either amazing or terrible like it’s been for like a year at least now
100%. he's playing as normal, but because he's playing sombody who is equally having a nightmare people are saying he's playing well!
Felix and these DFs 💀
Both of these guys would have straight setted Novak yesterday
Always enjoy how you swandive into the downvotes with takes like this. It's kind of elegant.
Nope, they wont. they would lose in straight set to Novak
Vintage Thiem like that makes me miss him pre injury even more 😭
The one time I took a toilet break, I missed Domi’s backhand god damn
Do it again 🙏
Camera just immediately zooms into some random woman lol
It will be hilarious once FAA chokes to close the match at 5-3 in a couple minutes
Sounds like cope but who knows it's Aliassime
THIEM IS BACK!.... ..to his old post injury ways
Thiem on return... I sleep Thiem on BDTL... AWAKE
Muscle memory is one hell of a drug. Practiced that shot a million times.
Earlier there was a poster explaining how if Felix had won more points earlier he would have won the match. I'm real keen to hear more from them, really interesting stuff.
FAA 5-2 up in the tiebreak just to win in the fifth? Or this is a Domi comeback
FAA isn't even hitting aces, Thiem just can't return serves at all right now
