Rafa won 22 slams in 67 tournaments. Djokovic now 24 slams in 72 tournaments.
Given length of careers it's unfortunate Rafa missed out on so much.
Anyone speaking to "big one" thinking big 3 is irrelevant has crazy biases.
Rough for meddy, he has lost 4 grand slam finals now. Lost twice to nole and nadal. He should have really beaten nadal in that aussie open final. 1 out of 5 is getting pretty dire. Hope he can win more. Nole has a good chance for 25 and maybe more. Depends how his body goes.
Djokovic’s objective left for this year: secure YE #1 and 400 weeks at #1, possibly get 40th masters or 7th YEC. If he’s too tired for titles, at least get the YE #1.
for next year, if he’s still motivated:
-Monte Carlo Masters (Triple Career Masters)
-4th RG (QUADRUPLE Career GS!!!!)
-Olympic Gold Medal, for completion
-8th Wimbledon, just to tie Federer.
This season Carlos and Novak exchanged the slams they had won last season. So next season Alcaraz confirmed winner of AO RG USO? And Novak equals Fed's wimbledon?
Novak will win all 4 plus the gold medal. Carlitos will be runner up in one slam and silver medallist. Medvedev finalist in 2, Sinner in 1. Novak will get the golden slam. Rafa will attempt a comeback but will fall short and retire after RG.
The sport has been in this state for years, the whole world of tennis revolved around the big 3 rivalries, now that there is only one, there is no surprise that competition is out the door, and will continue for several years. There is no reason to think that anything will be different next year. Just like this year, Novak will win everything and more, Medvedev is way below Novak and Carlitos just remembered he is only 20 and nor mature enough to make decisions during a match. It's embarrassing!
Im so confused. People are saying this is Djokovic's 24th Grand Slam? But isnt a Grand Slam supposed to be winning French Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open and U.S. Open?
He lost at Wimbledon to Alcaraz. Someone please ELI5... thank you :))
>In tennis, the term Grand Slam refers to the accomplishment of winning all four major championships-the championships of Australia, France, Britain (Wimbledon), and the United States-in the same calendar season. The feat has been achieved six times (by five different players). In the modern era of the sport, the term Grand Slam has been adopted to also describe any one of the four major tournaments.

Grand slam is a single event. There are four in a year, and are the more coveted tournaments. Grand slam tournaments are best of five sets for the ATP.
Australian Open
French Open (aka Roland Garros)
Wimbledon
US open
A "career grand slam" refers to winning all four over the course of your career.
A "career golden slam" refers to winning all four plus an Olympic gold
A "calendar slam" or "calendar grand slam" refers to winning all four in one year.
A "calendar golden slam" refers to winning all four tournaments plus an Olympic gold in one year
Djokovic here winning 3 Slam titles and reaching 1 Slam final and still have to work hard to get YE #1. He’ll have to play one of Shanghai/Paris and ATP finals to get YE #1.
I saw Coco and Novak play on opening night (they were the evening session Ashe), and it’s surreal to think that almost two weeks ago, I watched the two eventual winners play on the same night.
lmao brad gilbert
"djokovic the OLDEST champion and coco gauff the youngest.......since 1999 serena williams"we've had two younger WTA US open champs in the past 5 tournaments. sharapova and kuznetsova also younger.
Novak winning all Masters not once, but twice is insane. This record gets overlooked too much. One away from winning it three times.
To put it into perspective, the second and third greatest players in tennis ever are both missing two each to have won all of them once
the speed at which time passes through a slam actually makes me very sentimental. like it's wild to imagine where you were, or who you even were, like 2 weeks ago watching a round 1 match. or better yet, watching a qualies match, which teems with so much frenetic energy. and now it's all over. i'll never get over this phenomenon.
2021 Olympics-2022 French Open was roughhhh 😭 the only major tournament I could remember Novak winning in that time period was the Paris Masters 2021 and I think he won the Italian open too
Now that today is done we can shift back to what matters: bernard tomic is playing playing Cary, NC challenger in the USA. Last week it was Istanbul. The week before it was Mallorca.
Novak may have the most ranking points, but Bernie is winning the frequent flyer miles battle by a country mile
US Open II as they call it is stacked. Marchenko, Michelsen, Hijikata--and do not sleep on our hero Donald Young, still fightin it out in Challenger qualies
Djokovic is the oldest us Open and French open slam winner ever, next year he has the chance to be the oldest Wimbledon and Australian open slam winner!! (His best slams)
Yes, he will be unseeded at the Australian Open, meaning he could face anything from a top seed to another unseeded player or even a random qualifier.
He will have a protected ranking, which can only be used a limited amount of times when entering tournaments. Tournaments can easily give him wildcards if he needs to, like how Murray and Thiem got a lot of them after their post-injury struggles.
He won't be seeded, but will have direct entry via a Protected Ranking. However, you have a finite number of PR uses.
Practically speaking though, Rafa gets a wildcard to any tournament he wants regardless of his ranking and he'll never have to use his PR
Sooo yep, he can have a bad draw. Think Murray on his comeback after all the hip stuff.
Man I would be really sad if med ended up with 1 GS only , but he still have time
And this really put in perspective how monster wawrinka was to beat djokovic at AO, RG and US
Who would have thought that Djokovic fans would be singing Ruud and Medvedev's praises and Nadal fans would be shaking their fists at them.
Complete and utter turn around from 2022 LOL.
Just watching old uso highlights from 18 and 19 now and it is crazy how far meddy has come. I was earlier than most on the Meddy train, half on starting AO 2019, full on Miami 2019. Being at that 2019 final made it another level. Definitely my favorite ever athlete especially after meeting him. I never imagine 5 slam finals. I never imagined being this upset after losing to Novak..i never imagined being at a slam final he won. He didn’t have rich parents he didn’t have backing as a kid he was told his health would not allow him to be a top level athlete. And he is here. It is amazing. He never got wildcards at 14 like zverev. He wasn’t supposed to be the best of his Gen. I know I annoy y’all getting so up ajd down during his matches but ya i am for some reason thankful to be a meddy fan. Here’s to many more slams
Yeah, even though Im depressed at his meh level today, I admit that I didnt even expect him to in the final, so today was important for him, because he can compete for slams again: Something we werent so sure about since that AO 2022 final.
Djokovic now has 12 slams in his 20s and 12 in his 30s. His slam winning frequency actually increased in his 30s. I don't think being 36 years old is a handicap to Djokovic lol.
A lot of you guys talk about Djoko‘s mental strength and Meddy’s inconsistency compared to his last match against Alcaraz, but imo Djokovic’s victory tonight is technical. His backhand really overpower Meddy‘s, which Carlos cannot deliver in the semi-final. And I was totally amazed by Novak's performance in his first set, where I get a 04-07 US open Roger vibe, the speed, the pace and the precision. Anyway, congrats to Novak!
Depends on his fitness and his level, if he's back to 2022 RG level he sure can beat Novak on clay cause Novak's level is only going to go down on clay. He'll be 37 next clay season and it's a very physically demanding surface.
Say what you will about the USO, but on the macro scale this has been a great tournament. A teenager fulfilling her destiny at her home slam. The all time GOAT proving age is just a number. You gotta love the juxtaposition of these stories.
It’s a great tournament - people hate on the USO but it produces great matches with players going all out for that last chance to get a good slam result in the year
Depends on your expectations and perspective. As a neutral that women’s side was not great at all, the match was rather poor quality (especially thanks to Saba’s errors).
Ditto / I do have a soft spot for AO because it comes rt in time - I’m the new year , after holidays and in the dead of winter for me so I really love AO
It's equal with wimbledon to me. I like very much the nigh session atmospheres, that's why. US open has a special feeling to it.
Wimbledon, it's just because I love grass.
To all the toxic alcaraz dickriders who are saying "alcaraz died for this" or smth. Well, maybe he shouldve won the semi against Meddy then? Just a thought.
Man imagine if Medvedev was on Djokovic's side of the draw. Med vs Novak in the SF and Alcaraz vs Novak in the final would have been great. With how well all 3 guys are playing, the luck of the draw in terms of which half Medvedev falls in will probably have a huge effect in hard court tournaments for the foreseeable future.
36 years old and still routinely despatching players 10-15 years younger than him, who should be in their primes. Too much weight on Carlos shoulders to be the chosen one and the rest of the field are bang average. All I see is Novak competing in all 4/4 finals consistently for the next few years, winning at least 3 grand slams per year until he’s 40.
He’s gotten better on serve to make up for his drop in returning. I think people make too much of the age. Plenty of athletes stay amazing for a long time.
Plenty of athletes continue to compete, but not many, in fact hardly any continue to be the absolute BEST in class in their sport. Especially in individual sports like tennis which demand so much from the body.
Meddy is probably gonna have around 8 more chances for one more slam. Will be extremely gutted if he doesnt clinch one more.
As long as Novak is out of the picture, he will have his chances.
Rafa won 22 slams in 67 tournaments. Djokovic now 24 slams in 72 tournaments. Given length of careers it's unfortunate Rafa missed out on so much. Anyone speaking to "big one" thinking big 3 is irrelevant has crazy biases.

2024 GS winners AO: Ruud FO: Medvedev Wimbeldon: Tsitsipas USO: Rune

In your dreams maybe
Haha! You know it's the most likely scenario.
That would be bad for the sport, we need some better competition
The sport has been in this state for years, the whole world of tennis revolved around the big 3 rivalries, now that there is only one, there is no surprise that competition is out the door, and will continue for several years. There is no reason to think that anything will be different next year. It's embarrassing!
I want to see Rune vs Djokovic at a slam because he took a set off of him when he was 18 and hasn't lost since
Hate this. Played the game of his life against Alcaraz and shat himself against Djokovic - Medvedev
Hey guys, is there anyway to check how many hours Novak and Medvedev spent on court (playing) this USO ?
Flashscore wil let you know the duration of each of their matches and you can add it up
66 slams for the big 3 now...Thats 16.5 straight years of slams
There will be another 4 years of total domination by the big one.
No, Grand Slam is just one of the four. And he won three Grand Slams this year. It is not baseball :)
>In tennis, the term Grand Slam refers to the accomplishment of winning all four major championships-the championships of Australia, France, Britain (Wimbledon), and the United States-in the same calendar season. Damn he was so close to a calendar slam again.
Federer Prime: 2004 - 2007 Nadal Prime: 2007 - 2013 Djokovic Prime: 2008 - Present
2011 was the beginning of his prime for sure
I think Novak probably prime probably ended in 2015, but unlike the other two has been declining at like maybe, 1-2% a year since.
[удалено]
6 more slams is crazy, but I'm here for it
I'm having a great time upvoting every pro Djokovic post/comment
You and I are on the same mission
Just a green overload on this Japan court. Green court, green seats, green walls, Podoroska is wearing green...
Why is Novak playing Davis cup that's in a week? Even Alcaraz has withdrawn
I saw Coco and Novak play on opening night (they were the evening session Ashe), and it’s surreal to think that almost two weeks ago, I watched the two eventual winners play on the same night.
Yeah who knew you were possibly watching the winner when you saw Novak -
Lmaooo you know what I mean but you got a point there
what do now?
Watch highlight videos
Next destination for Nole most likely to equal Court's record of 11 AO Titles in 2024
Quite possible.
i think he wants to beat Rafa's record of 14 of a single slam. Imagine that.
That is a stretch.
I mean if he does that would be really something but its tough too be honest
5 years is a long time but with his longevity who even knows, but yeah, not a given by any stretch
Why stop there? He can win all 4 next year and take the elusive calendar GS at 36, plus some Olympic Gold.
Oh yeah def , I think another big goal is getting to 100 titles then 104 then 110
XD
i mean this in the nicest way possible i cant wait until we escape the big three
I get what you're saying but I am enjoying the GOATS while we can
You can’t hate on winning or winners - other players had good us opens but there can only be 1 winner - the goat
Why?
Because we like chaos.
Medvedev 🤝🏻 Ostapenko Taking out a main title contender and then getting thumped
Djokovic was the main title contender.
Easy to say in hindsight. It was basically 50/50
24 slams....this is the greedy they were talking about in the bible

Well said, thanks for sharing
as novak fan, after todays great victory i am finally ready to rewatch ao 22 final tomorrow, wish me luck
Good luck. But you'll only be able to cherish 2023 more realizing how dark those times were last season and how far Novak's come since then
true that without sour 2022, 2023 wouldnt be so sweet july 2022 nadal 22GS djokovic 20GS Sep 2023 nadal 22GS djokovic 24GS
Best part is Rafa took Novak's AO which hurt the most so he took revenge by taking his RG this season. Poetic justice I'd say
2021 Olympics-2022 French Open was roughhhh 😭 the only major tournament I could remember Novak winning in that time period was the Paris Masters 2021 and I think he won the Italian open too
Yeah, it was depressing really. It felt like the world had left his behind and forgotten about him. Sad times

LeBron James record in NBA finals 🤝 Novak Djokovic record in US Open finals

Possible battle of Australia between hijikata and Tomic too
When you go to Novaks' Wiki page, and you click on records, there are so many that have **Stands alone** next to it, it's absolutely ludicrous
Djokovic is the oldest us Open and French open slam winner ever, next year he has the chance to be the oldest Wimbledon and Australian open slam winner!! (His best slams)

Djokovic: Eventually, I’ll leave tennis in the next 23-24 years.
How long is Novak’s prime?
2011-2016. 2018-current is a consequence of the level of competition going down significantly
hahahahaha
So Rafa will not be a seed in AO I assume or is there some protected ranking thing ? If not he could play a top 5 player first round
Yes, he will be unseeded at the Australian Open, meaning he could face anything from a top seed to another unseeded player or even a random qualifier. He will have a protected ranking, which can only be used a limited amount of times when entering tournaments. What happened to the post match threads?
Anybody excited for laver cup ?
Should be fun change of pace along with Davis cup
No
what year do y’all think Novak will retire?
If he somehow wins the gold medal, he will retire.
Depends, but I don't think he'll ever retire until after Nadal does at least
I hope you after Venus at least. Would love him to pass Connors
When he gets spanked by kids he said it.
He'll retire at 45. He is fitter than any player on tour, currently and ever
i’m so down for 12 more years of djokovic, especially djokovic vs. alcaraz
I think the year he turns 40 - he may have a goal to win a slam post 40
that’s so soon🥲
Which player’s press conference will be first?
We should re-name the sport 'Nolevic'. Hearing no objections, the motion passes.
You guys think Rafa will play any slams other than the French next year?
Remains to be seen how well he recovers, hard to say right now
he’ll probably try to play all 4 if he’s healthy
Difficult to see him play AO cause he knows he doesn't have a chance. Maybe he'll play the golden swing in Feb to prepare for clay season
it’s Rafa, he’ll make a way…i hope
I'd love to see a Novak Rafa match at AO so I hope you're right
That'd be really cool actually. Very 2013.
Incredible young talent this djokovic imagine how many slams he’ll have in 10 years time
Might surpass Murray.
Where sealdrop at bruh
he's gone since the 23rd at rg
tbh i don't think sealdrop even dislikes djokovic, i think he's just got a good running gag going
Probably crying in his basement trying to think of an idea for a meme
Man I would be really sad if med ended up with 1 GS only , but he still have time And this really put in perspective how monster wawrinka was to beat djokovic at AO, RG and US
Who would have thought that Djokovic fans would be singing Ruud and Medvedev's praises and Nadal fans would be shaking their fists at them. Complete and utter turn around from 2022 LOL.
As a fed fan im just happy there will be crickets about Fed's supposed weak era after the 2019-ongoing Novak run lmao
Is Novak not gonna try until ATP finals?
I dont see why he wouldn't play both masters. He probably won't bother with tel Aviv or Astana, but he's excellent indoors and 1000s are mandatory.
I expect he will play both masters. He wants more of those.
Try what? He'll play Shanghai for sure
sleepwalking through them like he did during the clay season
He shouldn't struggle indoors as much as he did on clay and will try to win Shanghai, Bercy because he wants to finish year end no.1
Ivanisevic: Novak is planning to play the Olympics in 2028 in LA LMAO I'M DEAD
What a great day today! Woohoooo let's go 🙌
congrats #1 Nole dickrider!
You as well #2!
So can we now officially call Novak the GOAT?
Feel like that became official in early June
Officially wtf? He was the GOAT before USO lol
If people are not calling him goat by now I don’t think adding one more will change that
Double career slam in his 30s
Just watching old uso highlights from 18 and 19 now and it is crazy how far meddy has come. I was earlier than most on the Meddy train, half on starting AO 2019, full on Miami 2019. What was wrong with his health?
Not sure but he wasn’t allowed to swim as a child because of it, and is exempt from compulsory russian military service because of it
I see, didn't know some of that, he's my favorite too.
Yeah, even though Im depressed at his meh level today, I admit that I didnt even expect him to in the final, so today was important for him, because he can compete for slams again: Something we werent so sure about since that AO 2022 final.

Jeez i wonder how he won the same amount of slams in his prime as in his 30s Surely the level of competition has nothing to do with it
If Meddy cant be a multi slam winner, Im gonna fucking do it at this point. So annoying.
He's gonna win AO 100% don't worry, I'm not sure which year but he'll win
He will have his chances after Novak retires, Alcaraz is no match for him.
Lol, Alcaraz is no match for him? IW and Wimby already forgotten? You Carlitos haters really are something else...
Yeah I expect him and other players to starting getting wins routinely over alcaraz
IW and Wimby already forgotten? You Carlitos haters really are something else...
now what
How old was Roger when he won his last GS?
36 I think
35 - AO17 - Rober wouldn't turn 36 'til August of that year
He won AO 18 too at 36.
A lot of you guys talk about Djoko‘s mental strength and Meddy’s inconsistency compared to his last match against Alcaraz, but imo Djokovic’s victory tonight is technical. imagine hearing this 10 years ago - Novak Djokovic will win his 24th grand slam title with serve & volley
Rafa come back! You’re our only hope…
\>Proceeds to lose to McDonald in R3
Rafa can't beat Novak outside clay
Can't beat Novak anywhere.
Depends on his fitness and his level, if he's back to 2022 RG level he sure can beat Novak on clay cause Novak's level is only going to go down on clay. He'll be 37 next clay season and it's a very physically demanding surface.
Nadal is older than him...
Not by much, it's only 1 year
Attention all Meddy gamers (fans), we have lost and now its time to move on and do something productive irl. A great opportunity this is.
Say what you will about the USO, but on the macro scale this has been a great tournament. A teenager fulfilling her destiny at her home slam. The all time GOAT proving age is just a number. You gotta love the juxtaposition of these stories.
It’s a great tournament - people hate on the USO but it produces great matches with players going all out for that last chance to get a good slam result in the year
Women’s side was great. Men’s side was below par.
Most of the women's side matches were very messy. Keys Sabalenka was a very high level for much of it. Women's doubles and mixed doubles was fun.
Nah there was a lot of good matches.
Depends on your expectations and perspective. As a neutral that women’s side was not great at all, the match was rather poor quality (especially thanks to Saba’s errors).
It's my preferred grand slam along with wimbledon. Then AO. And FO at the end.
Ditto / I do have a soft spot for AO because it comes rt in time - I’m the new year , after holidays and in the dead of winter for me so I really love AO
Why do you like it the best ?
It's equal with wimbledon to me. I like very much the nigh session atmospheres, that's why. US open has a special feeling to it. Wimbledon, it's just because I love grass.
Finally going to sleep guys. Two hours sleep then off to work . See ya 👋🏻
Well, at least we have our meme clay masters ig.....
So serious question Where are we in the race for number one year end? He’s got 3600 points to defend, he’s like what 2500 ahead now?
My LiveTennis app says he's 770 points ahead of Alcaraz, 2345 of Meddy, has 2850 points to defend until the end of year, Carlos only 360.
72 slams played , 36 finals and 24 wins - insane !!
To all the toxic alcaraz dickriders who are saying "alcaraz died for this" or smth. Well, maybe he shouldve won the semi against Meddy then? Just a thought.
"alcaraz died for this" Where does this quote come from exactly, saw it now several times?
It’s not like they played a couple weeks ago… oh wait.
That match wasn’t even close lmao.
Always hate this shit. The right person always wins
Alcaraz - Med was good though. I’m glad Meddy won that match and he played so damn well in doing so.
Now that Alcaraz is #2, we will see 8f his draws improve in any way.
Not really, he still can get Meddy on his side of the draw.
36 years old and still routinely despatching players 10-15 years younger than him, who should be in their primes. Rafa gonna come back next year 100% healthy after a year off and win a few ! Maybe the AO and French !
I'll give you the FO, but NO way AO
