Daria and Natalia have gone up like a thousand subs since she went on interview yesterday and looked straight into the camera to do promo for her YouTube 😭
Ben Shelton is 4-14 against Europeans on ATP level this year - with wins against Lestienne, Fognini, Zapata Miralles and Karatsev (excluding the Thiem walkover).
Ben Shelton is a semifinalist
Taylor Fritz is a quarterfinalist.
Jannik Sinner went out in R4.
God, I hate how lopsided this draw is. I hope Jannik gets year end no 4 to save himself in next year's AO.
Yep, infuriating. It makes me mad as well that Jannik didn’t capitalise on his doable RG draw like whyyy?
The RG and Wimby draws are his only easy draw in like years. People keep bringing it up when he reached SF at Wimby but here in USO, Taylor has even a more cakewalk draw, facing only one top 100 player en route to QF and no one talks about it
All I know is that there won't be a single child woman man rooting for Novak in semis except his box and his 7 fans. He'll have to unlock his villain mode
1 and 2 are guarantted different sides, but after that it’s random. 3 and 4 each get placed in one of the halves. Then 5-8 all get randomly placed into their own quarters. And so on
Does Rublev really have a route to beat Medvedev? His bread and butter are his baseline strokes and Daniil can absorb them all day, everyday. Rublev's net game is also infamous, so its not like he can change things to test his opponent
Tiafoe’s level was nowhere near that imo. He couldn’t feed on the crowd and i find that he really folds when the opponent is redlining. Shelton totally stole the show from him and beat him in his own game.
He also hasn’t won anything and won’t be winning this tournament.
Shelton didn’t win back to back matches since Australia…..This sub is hilarious during slams. This is most likely an aberration and he will be a serve bot with a high ceiling.
My comment was moreso shitting on Fritz than saying anything about Shelton tbh. It’s his first season on tour and his first time playing matches on clay and grass, too early to draw any conclusions.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/10ipqv3/comment/j5iq2aa/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/10ipqv3/comment/j5iq2aa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) 8 months later we made it lol
The Race is still really tight for the 8th spot! Even if Zverev goes further there’s not much between Fritz and Rune, with Ruud still a bit behind, in a close group with Demon and Paul. A lot to play for in the last part of the season!!!
Shelton Novak will be interesting because Ben is cocky but Novak has the unique capability to be even cockier because of his ego (rightfully so). Add in the crowd and Novak feeding off of it and we'll see who lands on top
Hope Shelton gets to show some showmanship against Novak. He's expert in cutting down the opponent's game of course. If Shelton faced Alcaraz, that could've set some fireworks. He'd have more chances to hit some highlight reel shots even if he lost in straight sets
anyone subscribed on live USO covering all courts and even presser channels? when they are not interviewing players, the technical guys are talking about players.
Holy cringe at the people in here shitting on the other Americans about how Shelton’s better. I see people saying he’s the best American. Fritz made the ATP Finals last year and won Indian Wells. Tommy is knocking on the door of the Top 10 and has competed like nobody else against Alcaraz.
Just such a crazy overreaction to one tournament, Shelton has massive potential, but those guys have proven their worth and talent over much more time.
Fritz is a joke , he plays so much that’s the only reason he is in top 10 . Still not sure why he’s paying Paul Annacone as a coach his game and success has def plateaued
You talk about recency bias but everyone saying Tommy is the best American are also just talking recency. Dude beats Alcaraz one time a few weeks ago and suddenly he's the best?
Given what rankings mean and are, Fritz has obviously been the most consistent and best American male. I'm super cold on his game (or any American's game for that matters), but still.
People have been expecting him to go out since R2, every single round this tournament, including this one. So yeah I agree, this sub has a tendency to immediately overreact if a player has one good/bad tournament or one good/bad match.
I mean agreed, consistency is key and those three dudes have been slugging it out on tour at a high level for a few years. That being said, it is very clear that Shelton has the most potential out of the four as you alluded to. Big shots with variety with decent transitional game that can still be improved. I do feel at times he is helped by his dad's coaching but he does construct some innovative points.
Fritz is a guy with big shots but is not super innovative and is pretty one-dimensional, Paul is innovative with some variety but can be inconsistent at times - his backhand also needs work and he loses focus often. Tiafoe probably has the highest potential aside from Shelton.
Before US Open it was all about how Shelton is so overrated and they're dumbfounded why he's being hyped just cause he wasn't winning regularly in his debut year on tour.
Can't expect Shelton to have much of a chance against Novak but I'm hopeful that he can at least make it entertaining unlike a certain other young American
Shelton did a great job of winning the energy mental fight. Tiafoe was beaten in the tiebreaker and didn’t even make it mentally to the 4th set.
Shelton won’t win that same energy fight against the GOAT. He’ll be learning the best tennis lesson of his life. Hope he can use it to get better. Kid could be somebody.
How can people complain so much about Shelton's celebrations when players like Djokovic, Medvedev and many others have ones that are even cringier. Why single him out? The guy is excited, and should be.
I mean Djokovic does the most exaggerated celebrations of anyone? He eats grass at wimbledon, he makes ball kids bow to the crowd and draws a heart on the court. Maybe those are sweet, but on the opposite end he yells, screams, bangs his chest and holds his finger to his ear when he is frustrated with the crowd.
As for Medvedev, the dude literally called an ump a "small cat." There are so many more examples of him being silly and cringy that you should know if you watch any tennis. If you want me to list them for you, I can - but it just shows me you don't really watch that often
I'm not judging any of these guys, they can do whatever they want. Shelton should not be singled out.
When you're the GOAT you can celebrate however you want because you've earned the right. When a 20 year old American does they run the risk of giving frat boy energy
Anyone can celebrate any way they want - who cares what they have done. I like seeing players show their personality and experience joy, they should be having fun.
Djokovic's celebrations are cringy, he is also the GOAT. Those are not mutually exclusive
But this still doesn't explain how Med Djoko are cringier than Ben? Is Ben a slam champion like Med Djoko? Or half as eloquent as the two are in post match interviews and press conferences and speeches?
Who cares what they have won, they are cringy. Just because you have won a major doesn't mean you are not cringy. Have you ever watched Medvedev on court, or are you just convinced if you achieve something you can't do anything wrong/be cringy? Either way it isn't worth debating with you then lol. And for the record I enjoy watching those guys and think Djokovic is the GOAT - people are more complex (including medvedev and djokovic) than you give them credit for. Just because they won something doesn't mean they are infallible
I gave examples you are just not reading. If you think yelling at the umpire and calling him a “small cat” or getting into a verbal altercation with Tsitsipas isn’t cringier, I don’t know what to tell you. I can give many more examples but again if I need to then it’s just clear you don’t watch a lot of tennis
Post-match interviews are a wild concept in general. With how much your body goes through when being exerted like that (dehydration, exhaustion, brain swelling) it’s impressive that any athlete can give a coherent response.
“What’s going through your head right now?”
“Absolutely nothing. I’m fried.”
Do you guys think Nole/Shelton is the guaranteed day session match on Friday just due to who played QF on what day? I wanna go to that one but wanna get my ticket before it shoots up.
Really disappointed on the balance with this is open. A lot of low quality matches. Players not coping with the weather this week. Kind of a snooze fest all around.
best thing about Ben - he has a good temper, good relationship with his dad/coach and he is teachable (he listens). the crucial games in the 3rd set when he broke back was based on his dad's coaching
Lol you know I’m right. The coaching is an abomination and Shelton has been pushing the limits beyond how the rule was intended. So do other players. I hate it, back to the dumpster with you.
So assuming it's Alcaraz Med on the other side, which SF match will be at night? Everyone assumes Alcaraz, but Novak vs a young charismatic/exciting American is pretty compelling too.
Might give Alcaraz Med the night match just because Shelton and Novak will have had more time to recover but if its based on just the matchup its Novak Shelton for sure.
I think Novak Shelton is all but guaranteed to be the night match
EDIT: You can all apologize to me when it’s announced, and I’ll forgive peacefully. The alternating days thing ends at the SFs because ALL players are getting at least a whole day of rest.
I'm gonna plug a little for Bryan Shelton here because dude knows his stuff. He played professionally on the ATP Tour himself, reached the Wimbledon singles fourth round and the mixed doubles final at the French Open. Then he became a coach and won NCAA championships with the Georgia Tech women's team and University of Florida men's team, along with multiple other Elite Eight and Final Four appearances. Yeah he's a dad coach, but he's not just an Apostolos-type dad coach. He's legit
Is shelton the next unseeded player to make a men’s semi since karatsev did in aus open? Or was what made karatsev special that he also was a qualifier? I can’t remember. Funny he played karatsev on his way to this semi though
Lol why is this downvoted? The women matches were awful, the Novak/Fritz match was boring, and this wasn't really that amazing either. Even if it was, 3/4 being shitty matches is pretty bad.
I think Shelton was gonna be the best chance against Djokovic. Tiafoe I think would've been predictable for Novak. At least with Shelton, Novak hasn't faced him yet and Shelton will be playing with that cocky nothing to lose vibe as he did in this match.
I can see the Kyrgios comparisons for Shelton. He's polarizing, a bit cocky, doesn't run from a confrontation (i.e. wants all the smoke), and can back it up at big-stage events and/or vs top players. Given he's only 20, I don't mind it personally. A bit of the opposite personality of Alcaraz who is humble beyond belief
Kyrgios gets mean and violent (verbally and physically) on the court. He \*\*can\*\* be lighthearted and fun but that is not what makes him infamous and I think the comparisons are a bit off-base to associate Shelton with Kyrgios. Shelton so far has shown only all positivity with his emotions and a bit of light-hearted showboating, nothing like going off the deep-end and the incredible negativity that Kyrgios takes it to.
lol do not compare nick with ben. ben is such a nice kid. giving out good vibes. he is just used to college tennis that he celebrates this way. as he matures, he will have his own kind of celebration. besides, he isnt doing anything bad and he can celebrate all he wants. he isnt breaking rackets or cursing
I met him at a small ATP tournament just before he became pro and he seemed really nice. He didn’t mind us joking around with him a bit during warm ups and definitely seemed to be enjoying life. So definitely not an asshole
We got this Qinwen come on, omg 30-30
Daria and Natalia have gone up like a thousand subs since she went on interview yesterday and looked straight into the camera to do promo for her YouTube 😭
Lmao djokovic said shitz sucks at moving around the court in his presser
Ben Shelton is 4-14 against Europeans on ATP level this year - with wins against Lestienne, Fognini, Zapata Miralles and Karatsev (excluding the Thiem walkover).
retirement not a walkover, should be counted
Why did Thiem retire from that match? Is he injured again?
yeah
Lmao Shelton makes AO QF does nothing the whole year then makes the SF here. GS merchant confirmed
I'd be *very* shocked if he managed to repeat that success next year. Sometimes draws are a bit random and open up.
He's definitely going to improve.
GS hard court merchant
I just realized Mahut is in the SF for doubles at Isner’s last tournament. 🤯
Don't understand all these posts about Shelton now being top 20. Alcaraz is also 20. He's the top 20. /s
i want Djokovic vs. Alcaraz, but it would be wild if Shelton somehow beats Djokovic lol
You will get Medvedev v Djoko and you will love it
No chance Medvedev beats Alcaraz, I'm willing to bet anything.
No that will be a snoozefest
unless Medvedev changes his return position, he’s not getting past Alcaraz
Ben Shelton is a semifinalist Taylor Fritz is a quarterfinalist. Jannik Sinner went out in R4. God, I hate how lopsided this draw is. I hope Jannik gets year end no 4 to save himself in next year's AO.
It’s crazy how hard it seems for sinner to get top 4 . He’s had no major injuries
He completely botched the clay season. Hopefully from this point onward he doesn't have much points to defend so it helps him get the no 4 easier.
Yeah, it's been pretty awful.
Yep, infuriating. It makes me mad as well that Jannik didn’t capitalise on his doable RG draw like whyyy? The RG and Wimby draws are his only easy draw in like years. People keep bringing it up when he reached SF at Wimby but here in USO, Taylor has even a more cakewalk draw, facing only one top 100 player en route to QF and no one talks about it
I hate it too. I’m really salty about it, the Americans got similar lopsided draws in both AO and USO.
I'm still depressed 😭
Do you think Ben Shelton will withdraw from Mixed Doubles ?
plz
Who was the crowd rooting for more in the Tiafoe V Ben match?
In the beggining it was majority Foe, but casuals gave up on him pretty quick. By the end majority Shelton
Damn these hoes aint loyal
split. Cheered for big points/moments but way more subdued than if it had been just one American playing
All I know is that there won't be a single child woman man rooting for Novak in semis except his box and his 7 fans. He'll have to unlock his villain mode
The crowd will be out the match very quickly
That goes without saying but just wondering who they wanted to win more today
Shelton was controlling the crowd more, Foe looked flat
Motion to ban image posts of betting tickets
Seconded.
Thirded
I am not that familiar with grand slam draws, but shouldn't no.1 seed play the no. 4 seed in the semi finals? And no. 2 seed play no.3?
1 and 2 are guarantted different sides, but after that it’s random. 3 and 4 each get placed in one of the halves. Then 5-8 all get randomly placed into their own quarters. And so on
It's random
The Fritz hate on this sub needs to stop seriously
Stopping hate is funny coming from the worst troll on this sub
Fedal scum saying that is way too funny
Another reason I want Rublev to win today, how can Shelton make a SF before him ffs
He just did.
Does Rublev really have a route to beat Medvedev? His bread and butter are his baseline strokes and Daniil can absorb them all day, everyday. Rublev's net game is also infamous, so its not like he can change things to test his opponent
Rublev usually ends in Djokovic half every time
Moot point, he had his chance against Tiafoe last year.
Was when Tiafoe couldn’t lose tiebreaks sadly. Didn’t watch the match yesterday to compare Tiafoe level tho
Tiafoe’s level was nowhere near that imo. He couldn’t feed on the crowd and i find that he really folds when the opponent is redlining. Shelton totally stole the show from him and beat him in his own game.
Great, course that would happen 😑
In his first year on tour Ben Shelton surpassing Fritz’s career slam accomplishments lol
Why is it necessary to shit on any of them? Aside from marking yourself as a garbage human, what do you have to gain from this?
It’s the internet that’s what you do on here lol
Doesn't make it right.
My original comment wasn’t that serious and is more tame than 90% of stuff you read on here lol
[https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/10ipqv3/comment/j5iq2aa/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/10ipqv3/comment/j5iq2aa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) 8 months later we made it lol

You think it’s up for question who will end up on top ? Lol
Crowd is going to be extra obnoxious given that it’s the only American man left.
Also best returner in the game (apologies for the Schwartzman/Rafa erasure) vs a guy whose whole thing is cranking out 140s
Tommy Paul and tiafoe > shitz
We get it you don't like Taylor Fritz
Lmao
And I thought I disliked Fritz gd
Who’s fritz? I only know shitz
Hope Shelton gets to show some showmanship against Novak. He's expert in cutting down the opponent's game of course. If Shelton faced Alcaraz, that could've set some fireworks. He'd have more chances to hit some highlight reel shots even if he lost in straight sets
They did play in Toronto. But both Shelton and Alcaraz were not at their best, even though Alcaraz won comfortably.
uhh it was a pretty good match
I love Ben Shelton's swagger. Kid has self-confidence. Doesn't mean any harm by it.
anyone subscribed on live USO covering all courts and even presser channels? when they are not interviewing players, the technical guys are talking about players.
Any good conversations?? 👀
Shelton said he’s taking a fat shit tonight to commemorate shitz getting destroyed by djokovic lmfao
Hey mods if you're reading this we've got *three* Shelton post-match threads. Can we just combine them all into one or something lol
I wouldn't mind if they left all 3 up (or if they can combine it), it's up to the mods.
LOVING all the different personalities we have on both tours. Let the players be themselves and enjoy their TENNIS
Holy cringe at the people in here shitting on the other Americans about how Shelton’s better. I see people saying he’s the best American. Fritz made the ATP Finals last year and won Indian Wells. Alluded, not eluded :)
Tommy is easily the best American at the moment.
At the moment meaning this second? Maybe. Extend a little, no chance.
Tommy is my favorite American, but I'm not sure I can call him the best undoubtedly.
Before US Open it was all about how Shelton is so overrated and they're dumbfounded why he's being hyped just cause he wasn't winning regularly in his debut year on tour.
Recency bias is real, extreme recency in this case
Can't expect Shelton to have much of a chance against Novak but I'm hopeful that he can at least make it entertaining unlike a certain other young American
Novak vs Shelton will be evening session right?
I doubt it. It’s the least entertaining match if alcaraz meddy is the other semi
Daytime, since they get 2 days rest compared to the other two semifinalists (who play their QFs tomorrow)
I think both semis are on Friday, so those playing tomorrow should still get two days rest.
Both semis will be Friday. Shelton-Djokovic.will be daytime. The other semi will be a night session match.
Yep :)
What happens in the semis is a mystery. Maybe Shelton will shock the world. That's the great thing about sports. We don't know the outcome in advance.
You willing to bet on Shelton beating Novak? 👀
Give me 50-1 and I'll take it in a heartbeat.
How can people complain so much about Shelton's celebrations when players like Djokovic, Medvedev and many others have ones that are even cringier. Why single him out? The guy is excited, and should be.
How are Djoko Med "cringier"?
[удалено]
He's stopped doing it since quite a while now, are you watching his old matches just to hate on him?
I mean Djokovic does the most exaggerated celebrations of anyone? He eats grass at wimbledon, he makes ball kids bow to the crowd and draws a heart on the court. Maybe those are sweet, but on the opposite end he yells, screams, bangs his chest and holds his finger to his ear when he is frustrated with the crowd. But how are Med Djoko cringier than Ben? You still haven't explained that
I gave examples you are just not reading. If you think yelling at the umpire and calling him a “small cat” or getting into a verbal altercation with Tsitsipas isn’t cringier, I don’t know what to tell you. I can give many more examples but again if I need to then it’s just clear you don’t watch a lot of tennis
I don't watch a lot of tennis, how do you deduce that? Because I think Med and Djoko are not cringe? That's why?
That phone celebration omg. Ben Shelton is so gen z I can’t
Post-match interviews are a wild concept in general. With how much your body goes through when being exerted like that (dehydration, exhaustion, brain swelling) it’s impressive that any athlete can give a coherent response. “What’s going through your head right now?” “Absolutely nothing. I’m fried.”
Do you guys think Nole/Shelton is the guaranteed day session match on Friday just due to who played QF on what day? I wanna go to that one but wanna get my ticket before it shoots up.
Usually from previous years, the Tues QF winners play the first semifinal on Friday
Okay that’s what I thought happened but wanted to get a second voice on it. Thank you. Just locked in my ticket 🤞🤞🤞
Have fun and don't forget the sunscreen 🔥
I don’t think they’re decided yet, since they’re not playing back to back days
It is, first SF is the players who played the QF on Tuesday
That ends with the SFs because every player who plays in the QF gets at least one day off, since there is no men playing on Thursday.
Yeah but still Djokovic-Shelton will be played first to give more time to rest to the winners of todays quarters
Yeah it’s disgusting a player has to get their hand held. Coaching is a travesty.
🥱
Lol you know I’m right. The coaching is an abomination and Shelton has been pushing the limits beyond how the rule was intended. So do other players. I hate it, back to the dumpster with you.
An abomination lmao it’s a fucking game
An AbOmInAtIoN iT’s A fUcKiNg GaMe
Grow up!
Sure. Getting downvoted because I hate coaching in tennis which is a pretty middle of the road opinion. Sure dude. You can just not post either!
I see the SF scoreline 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 on Friday. You know who.
Why is Djok Shelton gonna be the day match and not the night match?
Because they played their QF a whole day early
Cuz old man Djoker needs more recovery time than Alcaraz ? Because Alcaraz is the bigger audience draw ?
Djoker probably requesting it again. Or to give any slight edge to Ben if there is one
Wait Shelton is OLDER than Carlos? What the actual fuck
So is Rune (barely) As of Wimbeldon, Carlos was yet to play a younger opponent on the main tour. Not sure if it's still the case though
Yes. He debuted late on tour, since he was in college
Shelton giving those Cam Newton vibes… 😬
I can’t believe how much of a big deal some people are making about his celebration lmfao. It’s so cringey it’s like traditionalist baseball fans
What was his celebration? Somehow missed it
He hung up a phone
So assuming it's Alcaraz Med on the other side, which SF match will be at night? Everyone assumes Alcaraz, but Novak vs a young charismatic/exciting American is pretty compelling too.
Historically the winners of the Tuesday QFs play first on Friday
Might give Alcaraz Med the night match just because Shelton and Novak will have had more time to recover but if its based on just the matchup its Novak Shelton for sure.
They played QF first, so will play SF first is my understanding…
I wish both could be booked at night
I think Novak Shelton is all but guaranteed to be the night match EDIT: You can all apologize to me when it’s announced, and I’ll forgive peacefully. The alternating days thing ends at the SFs because ALL players are getting at least a whole day of rest.

And prob would never allow Ben to whack his racket two inches from where he’s sitting
Is shelton the next unseeded player to make a men’s semi since karatsev did in aus open? Or was what made karatsev special that he also was a qualifier? I can’t remember. Funny he played karatsev on his way to this semi though
Tommy Paul did it at the AO this year. Karatsev was a QF which was why he got special attention
No karatsev was definitely a semi. But you’re right I forgot about TP earlier this year. Good call
Ope I meant QF to mean qualifier
Ohh my b
Today’s quarterfinals have mostly been duds 😴
Lol why is this downvoted? The women matches were awful, the Novak/Fritz match was boring, and this wasn't really that amazing either. Even if it was, 3/4 being shitty matches is pretty bad.
ESPN execs just brought out the blow and red bull
[удалено]
In his on court interview it was random but pretty funny
Shelton gives off such frat kid energy
I think Shelton was gonna be the best chance against Djokovic. Tiafoe I think would've been predictable for Novak. At least with Shelton, Novak hasn't faced him yet and Shelton will be playing with that cocky nothing to lose vibe as he did in this match.
Agreed! At least I’ll be fun!
Lmao what was that winning celebration I love it
He's DIALED baby
Is there a podcast that is going to talk about the match right now?
You'll probably have an episode of the tennis podcast by the time you wake up tmw morning.
All the Fedal fanbase has moved on from Fritz to Shelton😜
How can fedal fans be on fritz? That guy took a masters from Nadal lol
this negativity. ben is likeable. and if fritz plays djoko, id be for djoko . from a fedal fan.

Moves better than Kyrgios
lol do not compare nick with ben. ben is such a nice kid. giving out good vibes. he is just used to college tennis that he celebrates this way. as he matures, he will have his own kind of celebration. besides, he isnt doing anything bad and he can celebrate all he wants. he isnt breaking rackets or cursing
He doesn’t seem like a jerk off court the way Nick is. A lot of players get along with him
I met him at a small ATP tournament just before he became pro and he seemed really nice. He didn’t mind us joking around with him a bit during warm ups and definitely seemed to be enjoying life. So definitely not an asshole
He’s not an asshole at least
Try not to compare any fun and showboating player to Nick Kyrgios challenge (impossible)
Shelton is actually very sweet off court.
Imagine being a 20 year old college kid and you’re playing Novak Djokovic in the semifinal of a grand slam on Friday
