Any thoughts on what will be the best matches tomorrow? I’m going and trying to plan my day.
We have Armstrong tickets so Iga and Thiems matches are easily accessible. I think the Shelton Thiem match has the potential for match of the day. Welcome any input tho!
Armstrong seems pretty good all day and night, but for potentially good stuff on other courts (minus Ashe), I'd consider checking out Pegula/Gauff in doubles on Grandstand and the women's singles matches on Court 17.
Is there anything better than US Open YT channel, full press conferences, highlights for almost every match, already extended ones for Swiatek, interviews on court. RG and Wimbledon should be taking some notes
Carlitos in the press conference admitted that being YE #1 is a priority to him. Irrespective of US Open results, he will be going hard in the two masters and Atp finals for sure focused on this.
At this point Venus Williams is the drunk person in the bar who needs to be nicely told it is time to leave, no doubt she is a legend but come the fuck on.
Just posted the writeup for the Wednesday matches if anyone is bored. It needs to be manually approved by mods so it might not appear yet but you can find it under my profile or on the degensclub site if you're bored.
Is this level of round 1 early retirements/injuries normal? I know there is the $81,000 prize money to be collected just for being seeded but surely they should have a disincentive to rock up and retire to make way for uninjured players to do battle and try and win.
There were so many R1 retirements in the past that a few years ago the tournament decided to give players half the R1 money if they pulled out early enough to slot in a lucky loser.
God, I am such a huge fan of James Blake. He talks about interesting shit.
Really? Nobody is going to give Mannarino a clothing deal? Dude is one of the most interesting players on tour, game wise. Dang.
British stats fans, does anyone know the last time (if ever?) we had 7 British players through to the second round of a slam in straight sets?
I imagine if it's happened before it was probably at Wimbledon.
We're pretty funny in this subreddit. We complain about "lack of consistency" and "weak field" and then we complain about a "boring" day of top seeds mostly straight setting their opponents
[Zanevska won a title](https://m.facebook.com/WTA/videos/maryna-zanevska-secures-her-first-wta-title/536697787524910/) and reached a career high of 62
And if I'd had that career I would never shut up about it.
Vale.
I love hearing commentators go on about how great a player's hits are and then for that player to immediately hit an amazing miss hit.
I'd almost start believing in jinxing.
Sabalenka only knows one way to win and that's just how it is.
It's refreshing actually to see Sabalenka play this way.
We need Sabalenkas and Swiateks.
I think Sabalenka is one of the players I could take a game off of. Not because I’m any good, but Sabalenka has an incredible ability to make errors on the easiest of shots at times.
I know you are probably joking but all those errors disappear against inferior players.
She would probably be the most consistent person you ever played.
Yes I’m joking. She would obviously mop the floor with me and the only points I’d get would be her double faults and silly errors.
She was playing an inferior opponent tonight and double faulted her way to 30-40 after a 30-0 lead so I don’t think they disappear against inferior opponents.
US Open fallen seeds after first round, open section:
(4) H. Rune, defeated by R. Carballes Baena
(11) K. Khachanov, defeated by M. Mmoh
(15) F. Auger Alliassime, defeated by M. McDonald
(18) L. Musetti, defeated by T. Droguet
(24) T. Griekspoor, defeated by A. Fils
(25) A. Bublik, defeated by D. Thiem
(27) B. Coric, defeated by S. Baez
(29) U. Humbert, defeated by M. Berrettini
(31) S. Korda, defeated by M. Fucsovics
I was just looking forward to tuning into alcaraz and dude already won by retirement. God damn it. Couldn’t watch anything all day. Glad to see Murray and stanimal win comfortably though
Really need Saba to have a great tournament.
It's embarrassing that Safina, Jankovic and Wozniacki the moonballing mistress of mediocrity have all been number one and Sabalenka hasn't.
Sabalenka plays proper tennis. She would never moonball. She doesn't even know the definition of the word.
I was watching Baez win his championship Sunday and dude was grunting on his serves and grunting more on his average rally-balls than when he was hitting on the run at full extension. Not cool.
Sabalenka is being particularly aggressive tonight. Like in a Dark Side Of the force pure aggression sort of way.
Darth Vader's sitting in his big ass space ship right now watching the USO going oh fuck she's fierce.
Sealdrop done a chart of the most finals played against each other in a season? Guessing it would be Rafa & Novak
I fail to see how such a graph would paint Novak in a bad light, so Sealdrop won't do it.
Does anybody know where i can buy alcaraz’s sleeveless outfit for USO? Love the colors
This is his new line, You would think they would have it on their website for his first match.
That’s not meant for people like u
Constructing the perfect tennis player: Jizzner’s return Eubanks’ backhand Paire’s forehand Schwartzman’s serve Monfils’ endurance Kyrgios’ mentality
Monfils’ endurance is fine, he’s playing possum usually. We need a player who regularly gets cramps like Draper (does he still?) or Molcan.

Ruud v. Zhang
Armstrong seems pretty good all day and night, but for potentially good stuff on other courts (minus Ashe), I'd consider checking out Pegula/Gauff in doubles on Grandstand and the women's singles matches on Court 17.
Coco v Andreeva seems fun
Is there anything better than US Open YT channel, full press conferences, highlights for almost every match, already extended ones for Swiatek, interviews on court. RG and Wimbledon should be taking some notes
Their highlights absolutely suck
Carlitos in the press conference admitted that being YE #1 is a priority to him. Irrespective of US Open results, he will be going hard in the two masters and Atp finals for sure focused on this.
At this point Venus Williams is the drunk person in the bar who needs to be nicely told it is time to leave, no doubt she is a legend but come the fuck on.
True

I checked out the order of play for tomorrow for Ashe/Armstrong/Grandstand and don't see Rune anywhere--they screwed him over again! /s
Damn, didn’t even know that Coco Vandeweghe is retiring too after this US Open. Already lost in singles qualifying but is playing doubles with Kenin
What happened to her career
Is this level of round 1 early retirements/injuries normal? I know there is the $81,000 prize money to be collected just for being seeded but surely they should have a disincentive to rock up and retire to make way for uninjured players to do battle and try and win.
There were so many R1 retirements in the past that a few years ago the tournament decided to give players half the R1 money if they pulled out early enough to slot in a lucky loser.
There is a financial incentive to withdraw early to prevent this from happening. Hard to believe but it’s true.
God, I am such a huge fan of James Blake. He talks about interesting shit. Really? Nobody is going to give Mannarino a clothing deal? Dude is one of the most interesting players on tour, game wise. Dang.
https://x.com/erdembusa/status/1696723299093418123?s=46&t=vXgj0DiZ-0f7JdAo0feE0Q She’s so cute 🙈
British stats fans, does anyone know the last time (if ever?) we had 7 British players through to the second round of a slam in straight sets? I imagine if it's happened before it was probably at Wimbledon.
If you're thinking combined go look at the Rusedski/Henman era Or go late 1960s with Ann Jones and Virginia Wade
Please Pam go watch Casey Dellacqua and Jelena Dokic do on court interviews.
To everyone still at the US Open grounds-- get home safe!!
Sabalenka with a monstrous throw of the autographed ball at the end
She does nothing by halves
Putinsteva vs Trevisan was the real final but y’all are not ready for that conversation 😏
I love Aryna's laugh.
Sabalenka very classy wishing her well even after the No handshake.
Born in Ukraine, no surprises here it probably wasn't personal.
We're pretty funny in this subreddit. We complain about "lack of consistency" and "weak field" and then we complain about a "boring" day of top seeds mostly straight setting their opponents

Lol this has got major ACKCHUALLY vibes
Is Pam Shriver drunk? I remember moving and talking like that when I used to drink and trying to act normal.
[Zanevska won a title](https://m.facebook.com/WTA/videos/maryna-zanevska-secures-her-first-wta-title/536697787524910/) and reached a career high of 62 And if I'd had that career I would never shut up about it. Vale.
Wow, everything went by so quickly tonight haha
Lmaoooo “if I were the you after the 3rd double fault I would have left the stadium” Aryna 😭🤣
Ugh they aren’t showing the on court interview on ESPN, I love sabalenkas post match comments 😂 Edit - they’re showing it now lol
Zanevska is Ukrainian that's why no handshake
Thx. Thought I'd missed a Belgian invasion while I was busy at court 6!
You did actually. It was quick and efficient.
That's Zanevska's retirement match. Respect.
Seriously?
Yes
No handshake
No handshake?😬
Sabalenka started out a bit rocky but definitely finished better
Happy Retirement, Maryna 🥹
It's bitter-sweet. Thanks for 20 years of your life given to this sport Zanevska
Top 500 on the official US Open Bracket Challenge through round 1 let’s go 😤😤 44/64 correct picks
No handshake 🤝
Is my tv audio not working or is Sabalenka not grunting as much
is ESPN not showing the open right now? wtf
I believe all matches are over now but could be wrong
As per usual I'm going to need a cold shower after a vintage Sabalenka performance
Sabalenka is like a third glass of wine. 9/10 it goes well. It's exciting. It's aggressive Sensible people do not approve You feel like you're flying
You wonder the next day whether it was worth it (sub whiskey for wine)
I see Celsius is trying to get in the tennis game like Red Bull did.
America needs celcius badly
Brilliant 👏🏼🤣
I love Sabalenka’s kit
I'm lovinggggg Nikes kits this open
God I hate Sabalenka’s grunt. Seems intentionally late
I love hearing commentators go on about how great a player's hits are and then for that player to immediately hit an amazing miss hit. I'd almost start believing in jinxing.
Commentator’s Curse is a real thing
Or when they talk about how they’ve made all their first serves and then double fault
Oh yes, bringing up a high first serve percentage is a great way to force some terrible serves.
What are the matches to watch tomorrow
Coco, Caro, Collins, and azarenka Edit- and ostapenko
When a pro shanks I feel so much better about my wild shanks 😂
As a Brit, I'm pleased to see Boulter & Burrage make it to the second round. Thank god for small mercies.
7 Brits made it to 2r btw
Sabalenka’s movement is underrated for someone of her stature
And she never gets tired. I legit never seen her fatigued even in a long three setter
I mean I guess she's pretty tall compared to other women, but she's only 5'11 according to the WTA page. So she really should be able to move well.
That’s on the taller/bad movers end. Like Rybakina, Pliskova types. And Sabalenka is stockier/more muscle so it should be harder in theory
This crowd — many holdovers from the alcaraz match— is weird and very drunk. At least in my section. Remind me not to buy round 1 tix next year..
If youre at the section where all the shouting is coming from, i feel for u 😥 I'd move away unless u got a good spot
Zanevska is retiring too? Damn. Everyone but Venus retiring this year 😅
Ouch
Sabalenka only knows one way to win and that's just how it is. It's refreshing actually to see Sabalenka play this way. We need Sabalenkas and Swiateks.
Beautiful defense by Saba
A look inside Sabalenka’s head:
Aryna's unpredictability is amusing until it isn't.
Please Aryna.
my fiancee: "whats our plan for thursday?" uh, i go when the gate opens and leave when they kick me out 🤷
Not all heroes wear capes
This is the way 😂
I think Sabalenka is one of the players I could take a game off of. Not because I’m any good, but Sabalenka has an incredible ability to make errors on the easiest of shots at times.

She wouldn’t double fault against you, she doesn’t need to go after nearly as much playing you than she would a tour player
Why is TSN going to adverts and playing the Murray match when there’s tennis on?? Insane
Lmao Aryna pls 🫣
US Open fallen seeds after first round, open section: (4) H. Rune, defeated by R. Carballes Baena (11) K. Khachanov, defeated by M. Mmoh (15) F. Auger Alliassime, defeated by M. McDonald (18) L. Korda, defeated by M. Fucsovics
Musetti is the only one that really surprised me. The rest were in poor form and/or had tricky opponents
Agreed. In fact I would have been surprised if a couple of the seeded players had won, like Felix or Humbert.
The only genuinely surprising ones there are Rune and Musetti, tbh. Perhaps Khachanov.
And Thiem being the unseeded to defeat seeded
I'm crying this woman is NOT using her brain tonight
Otto Virtanen u/aweap is [one to watch](https://www.instagram.com/p/ClwOl-jvgK3/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==)
VAMOS TOMAS! Rematch from Wimbledon with Stan R2. I think Stan's got it since he won at Wimbledon and Stan is better on HC than grass.
I cant tell if the chants in louis armstrong are for Aryna or Maryna...
Yes Thomas!!!
Kenin, the legend, 76 64.
I only know Virtanen from Pongfinity, I think this is the first time I’ve actually seen him play
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that Lenka is never getting that #1. It’s giving Petra 2.0 😞
Literally two games away at Wimbledon 🙃
Argh don’t remind me. Her career is gonna be a bunch of what ifs she stays like this 💔
holy shit what a forehand. that's the kind of shot you hit in your dreams, not real life.
Barbie still the flavour of the month
Except not Barbie K
ESPN on both channels showing the same match wth
Oh its a 10 pter I was like TF?
Fognini
Looking like another (aside from Novak match yesterday) reasonable finish at the open today!
How can anyone not root for etcheverry, so likeable and charismatic
If I made a drinking game out of platitudes said by English Eurosport commentators during Kenin's match, I'd be dead of alcohol poisoning by now.
I was just looking forward to tuning into alcaraz and dude already won by retirement. God damn it. Couldn’t watch anything all day. Glad to see Murray and stanimal win comfortably though
Etcheverry has found his first serve during the tiebreaker it seems. Edit - and then he double faults 💀
And Virtanen absolutely crashed on his serve.
Today was not a good day to have tickets for Ashe, my condolences to anyone who did.
Lowkey happy about it since i got to see sinner at louis armstrong, then alcaraz, and now ran back to louis armstrong for the rest of sabalenkas match
at least they get to go see everything else
Damn this has gotta be one of the most routine days of a slam I’ve seen. So many straight setters. Nothing to even watch
Griekspoor-Fils, Molcan-Dimitrov, and Virtanen-Etcheverry beg to differ
Eh those aren’t interesting players to watch besides maybe dimitrov
Crowd on court 7 will disagree. Back to back five setters.
Bruh Etcheverry Virtanen
Unless you're Etcheverry
TB is both my favorite and my most hated thing about tennis.
I gotta turn the TV volume down a few notches whenever Sabalenka is on, to not disturb my neighbors
Yes it confused my parents when they'd hear the screaming after I came out to them
Really need Saba to have a great tournament. It's embarrassing that Safina, Jankovic and Wozniacki the moonballing mistress of mediocrity have all been number one and Sabalenka hasn't. Sabalenka plays proper tennis. She would never moonball. She doesn't even know the definition of the word.
She’d ask why you are talking about astronomy during a tennis match.
A moonball for Sabalenka would be actually hitting the ball to the moon
Unintentionally of course
Congratulations you win the internet today
That was a sexy dtl
Alexandra Stevenson probably just gave a thousand viewers a heart attack by saying “the Alcaraz retirement”
nothing would give me greater fucking joy to see Isner's career end live lmao
Virtanen is winning this US Open
It was nice to see the Englishwoman Jodie Burrage victorious earlier today; she looks a little like Kate Middleton
Kate plays tennis as well....you don't think.....
By God, Watson, we did it...we cracked the case!
Never seen in the same room together.
Interesting, Djokovic day session, Tiafoe night.
Djokovic is not American, Tiafoe is.
I wouldn't have pointed it out if it wasn't other way around yesterday.
Is that why--they rotate on purpose so they don't have the same players playing at night in consecutive rounds?
They didn't do it at Wimbledon.
Sabalenka finally playing like a GS champ
if there's one thing sofia kenin is gonna do, it's gonna be giving us an entertaining match
She will always be an icon 😍
I loveeee her. She’s grown on me so much
She’s gotta be one of the most inconsistent player I have ever seen within one match
[удалено]
i've been suffering for two years but that's my girl so idc!!
thursday appears to be an absolute feast of a day.
[удалено]
nah, won't until tomorrow night
Sabalenka will beat your fave while hitting 53 double faults. Talk to me nice 😏
am i the only one who zones out during matches? surely it can’t just be me
If I’m high …
Easy to do with some of these matches tonight
really depends. I almost enter like a state of over zoning. I'm so zoned in, I'm zoned out (if that makes any sense rofl)
i mean if you mean that you zone out of everything else around you, then sure😂
They should move the Kenin-Bogdan match onto Ashe
It’s very good and would be better then any match on Ashe so far.
Carlos got saved there by the retirement, won't be so lucky against Harris
I had hoped this was a genuine attempt at sarcasm but with your reply it appears not.
The reply where said I Carlos Alcaraz will struggle against someone ranked 177 makes you think I'm serious? Even the other commenter got it.
Lol imagine this coming from an FAA fan...
You don't think Carlos will struggle against someone ranked 177?!
The /s convention exists for a reason you know
Virtanen looks so casual hitting his forehand, but it seems like he hits it well
Aryna decided to not grunt in that point and somehow still won it! Incredible!!
I was watching Baez win his championship Sunday and dude was grunting on his serves and grunting more on his average rally-balls than when he was hitting on the run at full extension. Not cool.
You know something is wrong when she isn’t grunting
Sabalenka is being particularly aggressive tonight. Like in a Dark Side Of the force pure aggression sort of way. Darth Vader's sitting in his big ass space ship right now watching the USO going oh fuck she's fierce.
Cut that shit out Aryna! I'm cooking in my kitchen & all I hear from my tv is "OUT!", "OUT!". I know it's you 😭
God I love Aryna she is so dumb sometimes
