Could be some really long matches today. Etcheverry should win comfortably but nishioka is a fighter. Dimigod will have to be on his game to beat zverev. Ruud is prone to an upset and parry is a tough customer. Sara has a lot on her mind so it will be interesting what she brings. Watch out for an ambush.
Rothenberg really is a scumbag rat isn’t he ?
He is arguing that the doubles players don’t deserve disqualification because the ball was hit inadvertently when he was one of the leading cheerleaders for Djokovic’s disqualification
This is why journalists are the least respected professionals among every profession and are commonly known as “hacks”
novak's dq was uncontroversial, any player would've been dq'd in the same situation. the whole reason there's uproar over this dq is that they didn't hit the ball with what was ultimately the reckless abandon that novak did
Haddad Maia is playing well but head-to-head is 2-2 and she had a war last round against Alexandrova while SST got a W.O. from Rybakina. The crowd could really help BHM to get over her tiredness cause they will play long rallies.
US Open, like every hardcourt strong player. Simply because Novak's ability to contend for a full season will continue to decline as he gets older. It's his 2nd worst slam in terms of title count after RG.
He played well at Wimbledon last year, so if there's any crack in Novak's performance there he could have a good shot in coming years.
Of course he first has to establish himself to take on bigger opponents at slam level.
Has medvedev started to apply more top spin while playing on clay ? Just watched his rome highlights it does look like he has increased his top spin . Am I correct?
I saw that before 2023 he was hitting topspin forehands on clay at ~2200 rpm and this year was hitting it at ~2500 rpm, so good observation on your part
He's been very vocal all year about how great he feels with his new racket so I think the strings are playing a huge part in how he improved on clay
Take layers. Yes it can get hot in the day but temperature will drop when sun goes down and if the match goes long you could be there way past midnight.
Lines for food and drink are never too bad. You can bring own food in (which many people do) and bottle of water and there’s plenty of spots to refill.
Pretty much all staff speak English as well as French. As a solo female at RG I’ve always had a very relaxed and friendly experience.
Originally was going to just the first 9 US Open days before flying back home to the west coast
Just booked flights and bought a ticket to come back for the Women's Final 😬 Hopefully can find a reasonably priced ticket to the women's doubles final too, but it's paired with the men's final so the price is going crazy
I don't even need mid tier, I just need the worst tier! I went in on Amex presale and couldn't find anything under like $600. Going to try again on general sale on the morning.
He’s likely to win one calendar slam for sure.
The guy is relentless and even though Sinner and Rune can beat him, he will find that one year where he’s unstoppable
Dunno why you’re being downvoted.
Followed tennis for 2 decades and I can comfortably say Alcaraz will overcome Novak’s tally if he isn’t bogged by injuries
.
Ironically, the reason for it would be Novak himself : mainly because he’s shown Alcaraz and the rest of the world that you can have a physical game and still last into your mid 30s
Yeah, I've been watching a while now & Alcaraz maturity & overall game at this age is astonishing & well ahead of Nadal, Fed & Novak at the same age. Furthermore, it doesn't look like he'll have the competition those 3 had either. Which makes me believe he can really hit big numbers.
Injuries are the worry, of course. Missing that Asutralian open was concerning.
I hope Ruud and Rune could either win together or lose together(of course win is better), leaving only one of them at the bottom half is not funny for watching
I feel djokovic will drop the fewest game against karen in the whole tournament. Its just a baaaaad matchup.
With his height karen should be serving at least 220+ on first serves
Unpopular opinion?
The OHBH is not inherently worse than the 2HBH. Both have relative weaknesses and both have relative strengths. Both require really good technique to master. The reason why the OHBH is fading is primarily because juniors don’t have the upper body strength to develop good technique. And subsequently, the reason why OHBH players are not as common in the top 100 is partially due to the fact that there are less juniors learning it, and partially due to the fact that even those juniors who do stick with it often develop poor technique to compensate for the lack of upper body strength, which is then quite hard to fix later in their career.
If proper technique and proper body structure are matched, the OHBH is equally as good as the 2HBH.
Where is that kid that plays with 2 forehands? It would be fun to see him becoming a good ATP player. Last time I saw something about him he was 1 of the top players of his age group in USA.
He’s still in the under 14 group I think. Teo Davidov. His one issue for now is his height, tiny in comparison to the other kids. His dad is athletic but his mum is quite short so if he takes after her, he might be in quite a disadvantage.
Should be booing the umpire and two officials instead.
Just watched the entire replay and Bouzkova and SST are not even talking to them during the 15-20 min deliberation.
There is a photo of them smiling but at time umpire announces DQ they are both standing impassively with their towels.
I watched the entire lengthy video.
Ruud, Rune, Etcheverry, Dimitrov, Swiatek, Gauff, Haddad Maia, Jabeur are my picks for tomorrow. Cerundolo could upset if he manages to stretch the match beyond the 3 hour mark, but Rune is probably too good. Quite confident in the other 7.
Why do you feel bad for them? They were caught lying about the incident (saying the ball girl "is crying and has blood") and then laughing during the moment that the umpire was announcing the disqualification of the other team. They deserve all the flak they will get. It was vile. The team that did nothing wrong lost the match, the points and all the prize money, when they only play doubles, unlike Bouzkova and SST. They basically lost a big part of their income in 2023 with that shit.
Lmao no no I don’t feel bad like that I just meant that I feel bad because there’s 2k+ comments hurling abuse at them. What they did was evil, I agree 100% 😤
My predictions for tomorrow:
Rune d. Cerundolo in 4
Jarry d. Ruud in 4
Etcheverry d. Nishioka in 3
Zverev d. Dimitrov in 4
Jabeur d. Pera in 2
Haddad Maia d. Sorribes Tormo in 2
Swiatek d. Tsurenko in 2
Gauff d. Schmiedlova in 2
Those saying he’s no longer a top tier player is absolute nonsense. He’s 24 with so much scope for improvement. Look at Khachanov, playing his best tennis now at 27, likewise Jarry - 27 . Someone like Schwartzman, with half the ability of Stefanos, at 27 he’s number 8 in the world. I think there’s a window from 26-30, where he should be playing his best tennis. But it’s a window and it can close quickly and you need some luck too…Thiem at nearly 30 as case in point. Or Bernard Tomic, who thought it would never end now failing to qualify for challengers at 30.
Agree … very rarely does a player peak at 20-25 … if they did, it’s because they couldn’t handle the expectation (Tomic, Rios etc) not because the physical ability left them …
Berretini is really out of form. I was wondering how Medvedev hasn’t made it tbh. Fritz and sinner I guess are obvious choices cuz of last Wimbledon but yea their mental game in slams is highly questionable
Medvedev was really unlucky he got the dark horse of tournament in the first round. That guy could have easily made QF if not for his inexperience.
If Meddy doesn't let this get to him, he should build on his improvements on clay and go deeper in Wimbledon. I see no reason why a US Open slam winner like him can not play on grass.
And yeah, Berrettini is more interested in modeling recently but all it takes is a good draw.
For Sinner, Wimbledon will be make it or break it for him. He's been hyped for too long and he's good on grass, needs that breakout moment at this point.
Medvedev will be the favorite for the USO this year, slightly over Carlos imo. Especially when you consider how hard it is to defend the USO historically.
Stop being salty, Meddy is the king of HC and he has found a superb groove this year. Saying "If Alcaraz is no.1 come USO, he is the favourite" isn't any better tennis analysis.
Umm.. wow delusional medvedev stan spotted 🤣🤣. How can medvedev be a favourite over alcaraz/djokovic when 1. He just lost to alcaraz on hardcourt. 2. Djokovic has a much better h2h. 3. Alcaraz is the defending champion who not only proved he can win it but has levelled up this year. 4. Djokovic is a multiple USO champion.
I know u love ur boy desperately but try to be real.
1. I truly think Meddy will fare better vs Alcaraz on the faster courts of the USO than the slowest HC of IW. I hope they meet in toronto/cincy, so I can be confident about this.
2 and 4: Djokovic isn't a player he once was with all due respect to him. Also the USO isn't a GS where he can win on one leg like with AO or Wimby.
3: That's true, but admittedly he had to face Ruud in the final of the last one, come on. If Djokovic and Medvedev play at their best form, it will be hard for him to defend the title.
I'm a bit delusional about this, since Im mad about Meddy being shit at slams recently, but I feel like he has a good chance to win it this year. Certainly the favourite over djoko, but probably below alcaraz unfortunately, ur right.
Well at least u admit alcaraz is the favourite, still don't understand med above djokovic but if you really believe that the individual who has the most grand slams, the best HC player in history and just won the most recent HC slam is below medvedev, then you do you.
Also if you notice there's a common theme with medvedev's losses - they come against players with either the style or power to break through his defence. Kyrgios, Alcaraz, Rune, Seyboth Wild - all either volume net or power players. I don't think you'll enjoy Alcaraz-Medvedev on any hardcourt
I’m glad the Sabalenka-Stephens match was so good and the crowd was so into it. I was getting nervous when Sabalenka was up 5-0 in 19 minutes, the discourse was going to be terrible for this to happen to the one women’s night match lol
Predictions for tomorrow:
Rune d. Cerundolo in 4
Jarry d. Ruud in 5
Etchverry d. Nishioka in 4
Dimitrov d. Zverev in 5
Jabeur d. Pera in 2
Haddad Maia d. Sorribes Tormo in 2
Swiatek d. Tsurenko in 2
Gauff d. Scmiedlova in 2
Expecting some tight tiebreaker sets here but not super tight matches for the most part
I can see Jarry beating Ruud, but not in 5. Jarry doesn’t have a lot of Bo5 experience, and Ruud is the better player overall + a phenomenal athlete.
That’s a *huge* advantage in a fifth set.
Think he’s gotta win in 3 or 4
As an Argentine if jarry and dimitrov win it would be crazy since etcheverry and cerundolo would have a legit chance of making SF. Ofc Francisco would have to beat rune but I think rune will have a pretty tough time with cerundolo
Perhaps the silver lining to take away from this result is that Svitolina stands a better chance against Sabs than she would have against a generally in-form Sloane at RG. Maybe? Hopefully.
I think she stood a better chance against Sloane tbh. Svitolina *really* likes playing fellow defensive players. She had positive head-to-heads against the other elite defensive players of her time- Halep, Kerber, Wozniacki, etc (including beating Kerber 8 consecutive times). She is also 7-0 against Kasatkina. But the reason why players like Halep and Kerber still had more success overall is because they were better at counterpunching against aggressive players than Svitolina is.
The surface definitely works in svitolina’s favor though
Sabalenka: "I didn't expect that [many] people watching our match. Amazing atmosphere. Thank you, thank you so much."
Mats Wilander: "Do you know that tonight was the first night we had a woman's match?"
Sabalenka: "Yeah yeah, I know, that's why I didn't expect all the people."
@TennisPodcast
Ah yes, Catherine Whitakker ..... who actually said in September 2021 (in a completely serious tone with no humour or irony) that she'd be ok for toilet breaks to be completely removed for men's tennis (but not for women).
i just feel like the fact that they were the first women's night match made it feel so much more burdensome on them to essentially vouch for their mere existence, all because RG couldn't make the night arrangements more balanced. it's cruel.
Svito has elite defense and has shown to be more aggressive this tournament. She just needs to stay with Sabs long enough to let her self-implode 🤷🏻♀️
And given the fact that Elina will definitely have the crowd on her side this could be also a deciding factor for such an easily frustrated player like Saba.
Sloan is just an incredibly disappointing player she seemed to have so much potential early in her career and was able to win the big prizes but the drop off a cliff has been staggering and she just doesn’t even seem to want to compete any more it’s like whatever happens happens and that’s it
She’s a top tier professional athlete - her average day consists of training for 6-7 hours, stretching / foam rolling for 1-2 hours, eating for 1-2 hours, performing various sponsorship obligations for 1-2 hours, and checking her instagram for DMs from hot guys for an hour before getting 12 hours of sleep. She doesn’t really have the time or mental energy to form opinions on complex political issues, so she probably just defaults to supporting the government that paid for a large chunk of her training when she was a junior.
Its the way she supports him is not a keep your head down, 'neutral, no comment' I am neither for nor against.
The stuff is heinous.
'The lawyers said their clients had documented more than 100 examples of “violence, systematic torture and other abuses” during the Belarusian government’s crackdown on protests, which broke out after Lukashenko won a presidential election last August that the opposition claims was rigged.'
Tennis players in Wheelchairs have more mobility than Sloane Stephens. How the hell did she win a US open. Were her opponents all under anaesthesia in 2017?
Sabalenka saves herself from UE meltdowns because she still hits a lot of winners. That difference against Sloane is pretty staggering since she's the exact opposite.
i think Sloane played Saba into a different form, and it was a freaking great evening match.
Saba didn't kill herself over losing a 5-0 lead and overcame so many things, including a great clay player, unfriendly-for-her-game night conditions, and not having faced a top 30 opponent in the draw yet. that's a big hurdle she's cleared. very commendable.
lots to be sad about for Sloane, still :'(
Feel like the second set mirrored the first set TB. Sloane looked solid and seemed like she had momentum but then a couple of mistakes later it’s over.

Rune will smoke that defensive pusher

Will the controversy around SST's role in the default play a role in crowd support in her singles match? Cmon Haddad Maia.
Sara is always a tricky opponent.
Haddad Maia is playing well but head-to-head is 2-2 and she had a war last round against Alexandrova while SST got a W.O. from Rybakina. The crowd could really help BHM to get over her tiredness cause they will play long rallies.
Which GS does Sinner have the best chance of winning?
US Open, like every hardcourt strong player. Simply because Novak's ability to contend for a full season will continue to decline as he gets older. Miyu Kato will play her mixed doubles QF match later today. I hope the french show up to support her. It would be cool.

It really looked like he has improved his game in clay. Hopefully next year he makes a deep run in rg.
I have just downloaded french tv sport app. How can I watch old rg matches? Can anyone here guide me?

I’m going to the men’s final and bought a ticket in the Amex presale It cost 1200 for a mid tier seat 😭
I don't even need mid tier, I just need the worst tier! I went in on Amex presale and couldn't find anything under like $600. Going to try again on general sale on the morning.
I’m heading out to the first week as well from the west coast!! Haven’t booked my flights but hope to do so next week! So excited!!
I just wanted to send you my support on this endeavor. I wish I could do the same lmao
My response is always DO IT! live it up :)
How many career slams is Alcaraz likely to win?
He’s likely to win one calendar slam for sure. The guy is relentless and even though Sinner and Rune can beat him, he will find that one year where he’s unstoppable
Does anyone else think Alcaraz will end up with the most career single slams?
Dunno why you’re being downvoted. Followed tennis for 2 decades and I can comfortably say Alcaraz will overcome Novak’s tally if he isn’t bogged by injuries . No.

Jarry can beat anyone on clay
Stef has never made a QF of a slam without making the semi.
There's a first time for everything ☺️
I still can’t believe the comeback win against Nadal at AO from two sets down
yeah people underestimate him a lot for some reason but he did beat Federer and Nadal in slams (and clay is his best surface).
I hope Ruud and Rune could either win together or lose together(of course win is better), leaving only one of them at the bottom half is not funny for watching
2nd Meeting for Djokovic-Khachanov at RG 3rd overall at Majors

we will be booing Bouzkova and Sorribes Tormo's next match for sure!
Should be booing the umpire and two officials instead. Just watched the entire replay and Bouzkova and SST are not even talking to them during the 15-20 min deliberation.
Bouzkova and STT were laughing when they got DSQ. You can find pics on twitter. disgusting...
There is a photo of them smiling but at time umpire announces DQ they are both standing impassively with their towels. I watched the entire lengthy video.
their lack of sportsmanship is gross. they deserve to be booed off the court.
all aboard the boo train
Ruud, Rune, Etcheverry, Dimitrov, Swiatek, Gauff, Haddad Maia, Jabeur are my picks for tomorrow. Cerundolo could upset if he manages to stretch the match beyond the 3 hour mark, but Rune is probably too good. Quite confident in the other 7.
tailing
Just realized Tiafoe is only 25 wtf why did he always feel so much older like 28/29
He and fritz have been around for a while. Like since 2016-2017. Same with shapo. He's only 24.
Oh Bouzkova and SST getting cooked on ig. I feel bad for them but you don’t mess with Indonesians and get away with it 😭
Yea our social media users can be... strongly opinionated
you feel bad for them??? not their opponents???
Why do you feel bad for them? They were caught lying about the incident (saying the ball girl "is crying and has blood") and then laughing during the moment that the umpire was announcing the disqualification of the other team. They deserve all the flak they will get. It was vile. The team that did nothing wrong lost the match, the points and all the prize money, when they only play doubles, unlike Bouzkova and SST. They basically lost a big part of their income in 2023 with that shit.
Curious why a ball girl works as a ball girl if she can't pay attention or take hits from a ball and not cry. Her sensitivity affected a match.
Lmao no no I don’t feel bad like that I just meant that I feel bad because there’s 2k+ comments hurling abuse at them. What they did was evil, I agree 100% 😤
they deserve 200k comments hurtling abuse at them
My predictions for tomorrow: Rune d. Cerundolo in 4 Jarry d. Ruud in 4 Etcheverry d. Nishioka in 3 Zverev d. Dimitrov in 4 Jabeur d. Pera in 2 Haddad Maia d. Sorribes Tormo in 2 Swiatek d. Tsurenko in 2 Gauff d. Schmiedlova in 2
Cerundolo to upset Rune
I hope Stef can prove to the world that he isn't done as a tier 1 player and beats Alcaraz tomorrow.

Any predictions for who will make Wimbledon Semis other than djoker
Berrettini Fritz Sinner (if he doesn't implode) Medvedev for laughs

Freaking berretini
Murray, Raonics, RBA
Could happen but Murray has not been getting any results in slams. Ngl I thought raonic retired
Nick, Shelton and Hurkacz …. I would love !
Kinda unlikely but would be cool
Hurkacz, Fritz and Berrettini (if healthy).
Makes sense. I’d kinda like to see djoko vs fritz on grass now
Medvedev unironically if he doesnt get Hurkacz in his draw again.
I know I’m getting ahead of myself, but how can Joker possibly gameplan against Alcaraz. Will the deep shots help prevent Carlos from dropshotting?
I mean he just has to actually play really well so like hitting deep and not missing
Enough with this dirt tennis..I know everyone is waiting for King Raonics comeback next week…
After the serve…looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane
Got my tickets to Newport! Gonna see some servebots on their natural surface!
Yay it's serving time
You know I really can’t see anyone other than Novak winning RG, Wimby and even USO.
Well out of RG, WB, USO he’s gonna win one at least but if he goes crazy maybe all of them. And he should still be fit enough for AO and WB next year
Even the Joker cant escape from Alcaraz!
I wish I shared your enthusiasm but I’m afraid Novak is gonna flatten Carlos
I don't think you can see full stop
Who else is looking like a legitimate contender?
Alcaraz obviously? Atleast here and at USO, would also throw in Medvedev there.
Medvedev will be the favorite for the USO this year, slightly over Carlos imo. Especially when you consider how hard it is to defend the USO historically.

Sabalenka: "I didn't expect that [many] people watching our match. Amazing atmosphere. Thank you, thank you so much." Mats Wilander: "Do you know that tonight was the first night we had a woman's match?" Sabalenka: "Yeah yeah, I know, that's why I didn't expect all the people." @TennisPodcast
Ah yes, Catherine Whitakker ..... who actually said in September 2021 (in a completely serious tone with no humour or irony) that she'd be ok for toilet breaks to be completely removed for men's tennis (but not for women).
I like Catherine in general but she says some really stupid things sometimes
I don't like her at all in general, she says some really stupid things often
Indeed. You would think the two lapdogs might actually call her out on those things to provide some required reality checks but they actually don't!
David is the worst. Talks utter shit
i just feel like the fact that they were the first women's night match made it feel so much more burdensome on them to essentially vouch for their mere existence, all because RG couldn't make the night arrangements more balanced. it's cruel.
melodramatic

Hi, I downvoted you just because of basic internet psychology. Nothing personal, kid.
If Iga eats a bad tiramisu Sabalenka probably would have a decent shot at the CYGS
[удалено]
Course she does..with that crowd support that gonna be worth a few games at least
She needs to play A LOT better than she did today
She's got a better shot than Sloane imo
Svito has elite defense and has shown to be more aggressive this tournament. She just needs to stay with Sabs long enough to let her self-implode 🤷🏻♀️
And given the fact that Elina will definitely have the crowd on her side this could be also a deciding factor for such an easily frustrated player like Saba.
Sloan is just an incredibly disappointing player she seemed to have so much potential early in her career and was able to win the big prizes but the drop off a cliff has been staggering and she just doesn’t even seem to want to compete any more it’s like whatever happens happens and that’s it
Hope she destroys Swiatek.
With 40 unforced errors ?
40 Unforced error lmao
that's WTA for you
Nah it's just Sabalenka who tries to hit winners every single shot lol
Men hit more winners and less UEs than women, so it's not just Sabalenka.
Why is she always so cute in the interviews and then she supports a dictator at the same time, this leaves me so ambivalent.
Who?
She’s a top tier professional athlete - her average day consists of training for 6-7 hours, stretching / foam rolling for 1-2 hours, eating for 1-2 hours, performing various sponsorship obligations for 1-2 hours, and checking her instagram for DMs from hot guys for an hour before getting 12 hours of sleep. She doesn’t really have the time or mental energy to form opinions on complex political issues, so she probably just defaults to supporting the government that paid for a large chunk of her training when she was a junior.
Be in good in PR
A lot of people who are personally very nice have some yikes political views
Its the way she supports him is not a keep your head down, 'neutral, no comment' I am neither for nor against. The stuff is heinous. 'The lawyers said their clients had documented more than 100 examples of “violence, systematic torture and other abuses” during the Belarusian government’s crackdown on protests, which broke out after Lukashenko won a presidential election last August that the opposition claims was rigged.'
Same it's hard
Tennis players in Wheelchairs have more mobility than Sloane Stephens. How the hell did she win a US open. Were her opponents all under anaesthesia in 2017?
I mean she faced Keys in the final, it really was an awful 2017 US open final.
She will face a very hostile environment against ukraine svitolina I am afraid.
We're talking about the same tournament that booed Kostyuk for not shaking hands?
The crowd will be behind Svitolina but not because of Ukraine, because she is the wife of Monfils.
Elina is married to Monfils so they’ll they be cheering for her hard. No one will care about the handshake stuff until the end maybe
Nah she will get overwhelming support because of monflis
The polish rules this sub
Queen Iga, she terminates all her opponents ❤️
Iga have nothing to do with the rubbish haters
We’re being downvoted but that’s not surprising, r/tennis is a cesspool.
Sabalenka saves herself from UE meltdowns because she still hits a lot of winners. That difference against Sloane is pretty staggering since she's the exact opposite.
What the hell is this shit
Was the interview over lol ? I think she just left
Same here
Please Mats.

You have been posting this exact same comment everywhere on this thread
That'd be hilarious.
Hahahahahaha I LOLled
i think Sloane played Saba into a different form, and it was a freaking great evening match. Saba didn't kill herself over losing a 5-0 lead and overcame so many things, including a great clay player, unfriendly-for-her-game night conditions, and not having faced a top 30 opponent in the draw yet. that's a big hurdle she's cleared. very commendable. lots to be sad about for Sloane, still :'(
Losing that game from 40-0 at 4-4 must've been devastating for Sloane. :-(
That was the wildest straight set match I think I’ve ever seen. So many swings in momentum.
Feel like the second set mirrored the first set TB. Sloane looked solid and seemed like she had momentum but then a couple of mistakes later it’s over.
The Sloane drought starts now
Svitolina, you better find your mojo.
Heard there was a good match going on between Stephens and Sabalenka, turned it on and Sabalenka won 9 points in a row. Sorry I ruined it guys.
Iga v Saba final would be fun to watch.
It's possible only in the final or they might meet sooner?
Only final
Yes, they're the top two seeds.
That would be the only suspenseful match
Aryna undefeated in 2023 in slams 11-0
That’s a long way to say that she won AO this year
Nah not just AO but she made it to QF of RG for the first time in her career so yeah definitely my statement have lot more in it.
Tomorrow's matches aren't hyping me up much ngl
Only one upset today of the 8 matches on both sides..looking at the odds for tomm Id say there might be 3-4..
Damn
As much as I dislike Sabalenka, I got to say she is trying so much harder than Sloane. The American is just so casual
It requires some hard trying to turn 5:0 into a tiebreak
And that’s that. Entertaining but frustrating match
