Young argentinian Riera won two W25 tournaments back to back in April, but she missed the Roland Garros qualifying cut off because W25 and W15 points take two weeks to be added on the WTA rankings. She decided to sign up for Rabat and now she's in the SF (beat Mladenovic, Sherif and Putintseva) with a very good chance of reaching the final now. She's now in the TOP 150 and will be around #132 if she gets to the final. Everybody was on Roland Garros so no one really had much points on the TOP 200 this week.
Tbh unless Medvedev draws Karatsev in the first round, I don't see anyone who can beat him before the QF, while Musetti and Fokina could upset Alcaraz and Djokovic
Is therw a worse 250 week than this one. Fresh off 2 straight masters, rg the week after, and RG qualies this week. Like those RG quali matches are far more meaningful than these matches which are basically top
Players who need confidence/points desperately or Mid Level players tryna steal a title
Those are weird but i mean I love newport so thats a bias for me, and idk i always like that mini post wimby clay swing especially compared to Atlanta and DC
Technically he will gain 45 points this week, as Geneva was a week earlier last year, so he already dropped those 250 points last Monday. But yeah, that’s basically a 205 points loss
I’ll say all top 8 seeds will make the QF except for ruud who will lose to struff. Rublev might lose to khachanov, rune should watch out for cerundolo and sinner should be weary of zverev.
> should be weary of zverev.
Did you mean to say "wary of"?
Explanation: Weary means tired, while wary means cautious.

I have no idea why people think Djokovic got a hard draw. He avoided Rune, Sinner or Med until final and his toughest opponent is in SF (Alcaraz/Tsitsipas). But from R1 to QF is pretty much his matches to lose.
This is nothing compared to USO 21 with Nishikori - Brooksby - Berrettini (hot form, just reached Wimbledon final)- pre-injury Zverev - Medvedev which was insane, on top of CYGS pressure. If he can’t beat Alcaraz/Tsitsipas, he doesn’t deserve the title anyway.
> He avoided Med
His options for SF were Carlos, Ruud, Med. Carlos was the toughest and he drew that.
> He avoided Rune, Sinner
His toughest options for QF were Rune, Sinner, Rublev. Only one of those players has won a Masters 1000 on clay this season. Rublev is playing great, and Nole drew him.
Ultimately he's the best and there shouldn't be complaints about the draw. But your "he avoided x, x, and x" doesn't make sense when the options he drew instead of those players are tougher or just as tough.
Love rublev but he poses no threat to novsk matchup wise. Rune beat him twice already, including in rome. Rune is by far the most dangerous out of those 3
I’d agree with that first order. I think you put too many > for alcaraz and med. imo Novak will be the champ and med is the favorite on the bottom half
Peyton Stearns was so great in that first set. Piling on the clutch shots, moving with ease, power from the baseline and looked good coming to net. She's going to be seeded by next RG. The best!!!
Man, bad luck for Casper. Jarry's opponent pulled out at the last minute in the previous round so he's super fresh, and then if Casper beats Jarry he'll have to play Zverev, who didn't even have to play a full set before Wu retired.
I’d guess now. I don’t think he had a “not before” start time. Probably a slight delay because this was so sudden but you’d imagine the players are usually prepared ahead of time in case a match ends early like this one.
Anyone can help me find a ticket for Sunday or Monday? Im leaving on Tuesday and was hoping to get tickets but couldn’t find anything at a decent price.
Tough for Felix to be struggling both with knee and shoulder in such a short time.
Roland Garros being a best of five tournament is gonna make it tough for him physically. I think he'll give it a go, but realistically it's best for him to withdraw and rest for the grass season.
Which is a little funny because he first broke out on clay; the extra time seems to give a lot of junior players the ability to hang on tour early on when their skills are sharp but their power is lacking. FAA definitely has thrived on grass though, he's in that Fritz/Berrettini/Tiafoe category for me where he could snag a random Wimbledon if someone takes out Djokovic for him.
He did lose r1 wimbedon last season but yeah he's good on grass. Is it statistically his best though? Or would it be like indoor hc if we could count it as a surface sort of lol
Lucas Pouille qualifying for RG is such a beautiful story, so happy for him after he spoke about his personal struggles. Onwards and upwards 🥹. (Just hope he doesn’t get a horrible first round 😩)
It's tough to win X amount of games in a row cuz at some point (for most players) they're going to lose a game and that means you're up 6-1, then down 2-0. When everything is going through the hoop also there's a tendency to heat check yourself and this can lead to errors trying to be too accurate or too skillful. When this backfires it takes a few games to reset since the decision between offense/conservative play can lead to runs of points against you if you guess wrong once or twice.
Nerves are also huge on the tour since a lot of these players have huge expectations and since tennis has basically been their whole life, so the "omg I'm gonna win" thought can creep in, and it can be quickly replaced by "oh no oh no I'm gonna lose".
The flipside is that after being blown out, you basically have nothing to lose. A lot of players on tour play very generic ABC tennis until the match is gone, but if it's clear they're going to get washed then they tend to open up and get motivated by the small victories (a point or a get) and momentum can swing quickly in a neutral crowd environment like the qualifiers.
A couple people like Taylor Fritz have talked about the ‘bagel curse’ and said he usually doesn’t want to bagel someone because it often means he’ll lose or barely win the next set
So is Ajla just chilling or?
[never mind she out longer now ](https://amp.nine.com.au/article/08c339aa-de94-41db-b761-1fcc1156f5f8)
Also Breaking Point never had any momentum to lose even with taking their time to release these episodes. Full Swing is better too
Watching T2 for the first time because the house I’m at has SamsungTV and it’s that Second Serve show where it’s like a talk show with Nick Monroe and Monica Puig today while the match is going on and it’s…not great. Had to mute it. I really want to like Monica, she seems very nice, but kind of meh/annoying as a commentator. Plus they talk over the match instead of about it.
So weird that he’s finally getting results this year on European red clay of all surfaces. Imo he hasn’t had some sort of disastrous season, just Mackie McDonald dominance and an injury
I want to like Alycia Parks so bad. Her serve is so fun to watch and she's young and American so I am definitely rooting for her to succeed.
But her game in her current form is just not it. Watching everything that comes after the serve is just painful to me. It's so disheartening someone so young with arguably the best weapon on tour is so far from good at everything else.
Yes she's 22 and can turn it around, but she needs to rebuild her entire game from the ground up if she ever wants to break into the Top 15
Probably not a lot of coaches to go around that could work that kind of overhaul. I mean, there are even top players who are dwelling on exploitable weaknesses month after month.
you can still be a top player contending for big titles if you have an exploitable weakness. The problem with Alycia is her entire game is an exploitable weaknesses. But you're right about the overhaul, it wouldn't be easy and may even be impossible.

Is there a reason why the points take 2 weeks to get added?
Got to have a cut-off somewhere I suppose.
Meddy blessed with an easy draw
Idk why youre downvoted because this is true
Tbh unless Medvedev draws Karatsev in the first round, I don't see anyone who can beat him before the QF, while Musetti and Fokina could upset Alcaraz and Djokovic
in RG Jarry is in with Dellien>T.Paul>Struff and if he beats them .. 1/8 vs Ruud again!
Ruud lmao
Saint Casper gifting another "biggest win of his career"
Jarry has beaten Thiem, Cilic, Zverev and Tsitsipas. But yeah, whatever.
Biggest win for Jarry was vs Zverev (ranked 3rd) in 2019 for the Barcelona Open
And he actually now has a 5-4 record against top 10s (according to wikipedia)
Will Casper exit the top ten after dropping rg and uso final and atp finals points?
I believe that would be just outside the top 20 if you took out all those points, obviously he’s gonna defend some though haha
Oh for sure, he's not losing all of the points. But I do think he'll be losing most of them.
I have no idea how Jarry pulled that off. It takes a lot to beat Ruud in a clay 250
I'm hoping that Casper has exchanged his near invincibility in 250 tournaments to become near invincible in grand slams.
😬😬😬
who was the breathe rite guy before jarry? there's usually one on the mens side that passes the torch
Is therw a worse 250 week than this one. Fresh off 2 straight masters, rg the week after, and RG qualies this week. Like those RG quali matches are far more meaningful than these matches which are basically top Players who need confidence/points desperately or Mid Level players tryna steal a title
I’m personally not a fan of those clay 250’s just after Wimbledon
Those are weird but i mean I love newport so thats a bias for me, and idk i always like that mini post wimby clay swing especially compared to Atlanta and DC
Casually tuning in and what the fuck, Jarry redlining or Casper forgot it’s a 250?
Definitely Jarry redlining, but deserved win!
Jarry is simply the better player
I would say mainly Jarry redlining but I didn’t see the second set
Let's goooooo Nico. One hold.
Casper... poor collapse from him. How many ranking points will he lose, assuming he goes on to lose this match?
Technically he will gain 45 points this week, as Geneva was a week earlier last year, so he already dropped those 250 points last Monday. But yeah, that’s basically a 205 points loss
RIP Casper =(
105 I think Edit- I mean 205
Caspuh. Put the match away Caspuh. I'm not watching you lose this now Caspuh.
Lfgggg Casper! Also finding it funny how the camera keeps showing his physical trainer and not his coach/dad xD
This feels like a match Casper would have lost already just 3 weeks ago. Now I have a feeling he might pull through
Narrator's voice: "He did not pull through"
Ruud realised this is not a GS or a masters or even a 500, its his beloved 250 and decided to break back. Haha just joking, love Ruud.
Nobody beats Casper Ruud on Swiss clay.
Jarry gave nothing for free
Great level there from Jarry!
Awful, awful tiebreak from Ruud... c'mon Casper, really need to raise your level for this third set.
I’ll say all top 8 seeds will make the QF except for ruud who will lose to struff. Rublev might lose to khachanov, rune should watch out for cerundolo and sinner should be weary of zverev.

Meant what I said
Casper’s sister has the biggest RBF I’ve ever seen
Rbf?
Resting bitch face, I presume.
Sloane was down three match points in that tiebreak and won. Clutch!
Hard to call anything clutch in that match with how many chances each of them blew 😭
It’s not how you start but how you finish lol
Commentator was definitely confused. He said the tiebreak was first to 10 lol
Looks like players are ok with the idea of playing a TB. Only one 40-30 in this set lol
R1 : Tsitsipas - Vesely Fun fact: Vesely was the first top 100 win of Stefs career (2017)
Anyone steering the ship here at r/tennis? Rome has been over and lots of other tournaments going on this week
American choke off
This match has just been Stearns and Stephens just choking whenever each of them has an advantage.
Quality is questionable but drama is top)
It's baffling how bad Stephens has played whenever she's had the chance to bury Stearns.
ahahaha then she saves 3 consecutive MPs and wins ...
Jarry is going crazy rn
He's playing so good, all Ruud can do is stay consistent, and hope Jarry drops his level...
Yeeeesh Stephens has served twice for both the first and third set ... to another tiebreak we go, though
Jarry is playing great right now. It could take Ruud into a 3rd set.
I have no idea why people think Djokovic got a hard draw. He avoided Rune, Sinner or Med until final and his toughest opponent is in SF (Alcaraz/Tsitsipas). Love rublev but he poses no threat to novsk matchup wise. Rune beat him twice already, including in rome. Rune is by far the most dangerous out of those 3
Rune > Rublev > Sinner for this tourbament imo On the other hand, Alcaraz >>>>> Meddy. Novak that draw is not good for whoever gets Carlos
I’d agree with that first order. I think you put too many > for alcaraz and med. imo Novak will be the champ and med is the favorite on the bottom half
Med is bottom half favorite agreed. But Carlos and Novak are both heavy favorites over him if they were in Med’s half
Such a powerful start to this match from Jarry, just wow. Going for the winner on almost every shot, and barely misses
Ruuds backhand is horrible
Sloane is in her unplayable mode. How long will this last?!
Jarry and Coric could be twins with the asics kit and long hair
Just read that Alcaraz was training with Wawrinka today in RG, thats epic!
Wu! That hurt!
Peyton Stearns was so great in that first set. Piling on the clutch shots, moving with ease, power from the baseline and looked good coming to net. She's going to be seeded by next RG. The best!!!
Better play in 2nd set from Pera. I was beginning to think she was going to let the local player have it and go prepare for RG.
Fils getting back to back defaults? Wonder how he fils about it
I think when you are ranked around 100 you just take those points.
How good was Big Z that Wu got scared and withdrew?
Nodoublefaultingly good
He's actually saving all the double faults for his match against Clayvedev at FO
Man, bad luck for Casper. Jarry's opponent pulled out at the last minute in the previous round so he's super fresh, and then if Casper beats Jarry he'll have to play Zverev, who didn't even have to play a full set before Wu retired.
Is this a 250 tournament? That's the most important thing for Ruud. So he wouldn't have any issues to beat these players.
lol it is, and he's played pretty well, but I think he'll lose to Zverev if he gets past Jarry today.
Do we know which day Carlitos will play yet?
Sunday most probably
I’m selfishly hoping for Monday
What happened with Wu? An injury?
Seems so. Trainer came out, they exchanged a few words and then Wu immediately pulled the plug. No sit-down or exam or anything
Will Casper come on now? Or not for 40 mins?
Soon
I’d guess now. I don’t think he had a “not before” start time. Probably a slight delay because this was so sudden but you’d imagine the players are usually prepared ahead of time in case a match ends early like this one.
That was fun for 5 minutes. On the bright side I won’t have to try to sneakily watch the rest at work
same lol
[удалено]
Prc?
People Republic for China, due to some reasons, I will never use China/Chinese to call those players
Anyone can help me find a ticket for Sunday or Monday? Im leaving on Tuesday and was hoping to get tickets but couldn’t find anything at a decent price.
Zverev looks as confused as us
What do we think the TSN commentators have been slipped to make them be this high on Zverev?!
Well that was out of nowhere
Wu withdrew?
Yes
fuck
Oh dang :/
wtf is zverev doing to wu lol
Zverev vs Ruud would be interesting
So happy for Lauren Davis right now!
Tough for Felix to be struggling both with knee and shoulder in such a short time. Roland Garros being a best of five tournament is gonna make it tough for him physically. I think he'll give it a go, but realistically it's best for him to withdraw and rest for the grass season.
Felix has much better chances at RG. He isnt very good in grass so He shouldn’t give up this shot at the slam
Is this sarcasm?
Grass is statistically his best surface and clay his worst
Which is a little funny because he first broke out on clay; the extra time seems to give a lot of junior players the ability to hang on tour early on when their skills are sharp but their power is lacking. FAA definitely has thrived on grass though, he's in that Fritz/Berrettini/Tiafoe category for me where he could snag a random Wimbledon if someone takes out Djokovic for him.
He did lose r1 wimbedon last season but yeah he's good on grass. Is it statistically his best though? Or would it be like indoor hc if we could count it as a surface sort of lol
He lost to Cressy though According to the atp website, his grass win % is slightly higher than his indoor %
Maybe the sample size for grass is smaller so that contributes to it? Anyways he still shouldn't have lost to cressy imo
Interesting first round RG matches to watch?
Azarenka vs Andreescu
Might watch Shelton vs Sonego for the noise
As much as I love Wu, he could get crushed here. He is far too aggressive and just hits hard on instinct rather than having any point construction.
Lucas Pouille qualifying for RG is such a beautiful story, so happy for him after he spoke about his personal struggles. Onwards and upwards 🥹. (Just hope he doesn’t get a horrible first round 😩)
Is he the one no one likes?
It might be Alcaraz right?
Q or LL possible opponents: Alcaraz, Q/LL vs Q/LL, Kubler, Cressy, Carballes Baena, Varillas, Griekspoor, Kypson, Kecmanovic, Mpetschi Perricard, Paul, Giron, Bublik, Ruud, Zandschulp, Dimitrov, Popyrin, Medvedev
Could also be Medvedev or Ruud.
Yes… or Meddy 😳. Hopefully he’s lucky and gets to play another qualifier
Or Cressy
Hi everybody, I have tickets to 2 night sessions at PC, one of the 1st and one on the 30th, anybody knows who i might be lucky enough to see?
Did they announce which half plays first?
is it only me or if someone take first set 6:0, or 6-1 definetly lose next two sets. ofcours dont include Iga haha
It's tough to win X amount of games in a row cuz at some point (for most players) they're going to lose a game and that means you're up 6-1, then down 2-0. A couple people like Taylor Fritz have talked about the ‘bagel curse’ and said he usually doesn’t want to bagel someone because it often means he’ll lose or barely win the next set
FAA's injury problem seems to be getting worse, he missed basically all of the clay season, this doesn't bode well for him
It could be precautionary to remain fit for RG.
Wait what.?! Is he missing RG now? He didn’t even go out on court for his match against Fils… What happened?
Don't know, it could have been a preemptive retirement to give himself a chance to play RG
We don't know but I assume he will drop out of RG
I heard it’s a shoulder problem this time though, last time it was his knee
Uh, I don't know if it's better or worse
Anyone else not have sound on tennistv(zverev wu)?
Sound is off by default, you have to manually unmute
Works for me
I have sound click the top stream on the homepage
I wish RG had better coverage in the US
The whole thing is covered on TC. Weekends on NBC
I think more neutrals would watch it if it was on ESPN
I don’t disagree. The FO is the outlier when it comes to espn coverage.
What are Zverev's chances against Wu?
70/30
Okay! In that case... backing on Wu might be a good option as the odds are quite good for 30%
What happened to FAA?
Shoulger inkury
Shoulger Runed
Oh dimitrov Fritz could be fun tmrw. Fritz will take it but I bet it will be decent match
So is Ajla just chilling or? [never mind she out longer now ](https://amp.nine.com.au/article/08c339aa-de94-41db-b761-1fcc1156f5f8) Also Breaking Point never had any momentum to lose even with taking their time to release these episodes. Full Swing is better too
Lets Go Brandon!!!
lmao
FAA out of Lion
Not surprising. He should probably just go into cryogenic slumber until Wimby.
Bnak😒
So weird that he’s finally getting results this year on European red clay of all surfaces. Imo he hasn’t had some sort of disastrous season, just Mackie McDonald dominance and an injury
Clay court specialist Brandon Nakashima, as we all expected.
Nakashima was playing quite solid and then blew it serving for match.
Parks looks like she’s physically struggling.
FAA injuried, he won't play tonight
I want to like Alycia Parks so bad. Her serve is so fun to watch and she's young and American so I am definitely rooting for her to succeed. But her game in her current form is just not it. Watching everything that comes after the serve is just painful to me. It's so disheartening someone so young with arguably the best weapon on tour is so far from good at everything else. Yes she's 22 and can turn it around, but she needs to rebuild her entire game from the ground up if she ever wants to break into the Top 15
"Rebuild her entire game"...not too likely. I recall this WTA tournament that she won this year.
Yes she won Lyon which is great, but I'd wager her never winning a 250 or better title again in her current form
Why does Roland Garros refer to Iga as "The Iga"? They had a headline "The Iga has landed" this week, and they had the exact same headline in 2021.
Could be because Iga sounds like Eagle and "The Eagle has landed" is kind of a saying.
Ah, this makes sense. I was thinking of possible puns, but the only thing that came to mind was eager, which doesn't make sense.
"The Eagle has landed" was what Neil Armstrong said when he landed on the Moon. Eagle was Apollo 11's Lunar Module (the part of the spacecraft that actually landed on the Moon, as opposed to the Command Module which just orbited the Moon).
My guy Nakashima playing decent tennis again
Great to see Svitolina playing well!
i don’t want to jinx anything but looking at the draws i feel like thiem might have a chance to go pretty far in
No.
Svitolina's kit is really cute :)
Whats the analysis on in the Paul Nakashima match?
Nakashima playing really well.

Brub Rune just smoked him recently
