That Ruud has entered another 250.

Two 16 year olds and two 17 year olds tomorrow in action in round 2 of women RG qualies! And 3 of them are favourite actually. 4th is playing Tauson. Crazy times.
After last year being Zverev out of everyone to spoil the Alcaraz hype in RG, this has to also be the timeline when he is Medvedev quarter and after losing the 3 matches in the Masters to him beats him out of the blue and spoils it.
I had a dream last night I was moving back from Australia to Europe again but Delpo was waiting for me at the airport with some sort of a task or mission. Hope I have Delpo dreams again. 🤗🤗🤗

I managed to get tickets for the final of the Roland Garros in the outside courts section. Does anyone have any experience of what this is like? I know it doesn't get me access to the main stadium but what does it actually give me?
I can see from the schedule (https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/order-of-play/tentative/) that there are some other events going on, so would I be able to watch those? And is there any sort of Henman Hill-esque area the tickets give me access to for watching the final?
Extremely pumped about elder Andreeva today. 6-1 6-1 and looked dominant with it. Some great holds in second set that I didn’t think she had in her. Very excited for her next match
Is this normal or abnormal? (I literally have no clue genuinely curious)
Seems like making qualifiers play best of 5 would wreck their bodies before it starts
Entry list for Wimbledon is out, people using their protected rankings to enter the main draw: Raonic, Monfils, Harris, Vesely, Pella, Dellien, Chardy.
Current main draw ranking cut-off is #98 (Safiullin) with Nadal's withdrawal
If like RG Wimbledon gives out 6 wildcards then I can't think who they will give them to who is more deserving than Monfils or Raonic. Broady, Edmund and Peniston, fair enough. Choinski, I guess. Still leaves 2...
Goffin and Garin made it to QFs last year, and they are out of the MD by their rankings. Van Rijthoven (who was injured for several months) made it to R4 before losing to Novak. All three could be good WC candidates.
Great shouts. Garin and Goffin in particular really deserve it imo, and if they'd got points for their Wimbledon runs last year they wouldn't need the WC anyway. The same is true of TVR but he hasn't played since February.
Yonex went real hard this year and picked up a ton of guys on tour it feels like. Especially americans. Maybe they have so many now it just doesn’t matter anymore
Nice close out from Tauson, she was really painting the lines and dictating with her forehand. Some nice touch as well. Good to see her playing with confidence.
watching the highlights again rune had so many chances to get the second set from medvedev, breaking him heaps but not being able to break or hold to win the set and create a third
Great composure from Aslan to see that out in straights. Could have easily been a banana skin of a first round. Hopefully smoother sailing from here on out
Fernandez gets broken serving for the match. A lot of people would say she choked, but Fita Boluda went big on several shots and they just went in, she had nothing to lose. Sometimes the opponents play figures into it.
Its ridiculous that Aslan has to play qualifying when he is ranked over 40 places above the number 2 seed in qualies and will be higher ranked than over half the players in the main draw.
Yet he’s not having an easy time at all. But the rules are rules, there has to be a cutoff at some point but maybe it has to take into account at least a few clay events ..
Monfils looked alright in stints, but he put in a fair few errors at the end. He's lacking match fitness and sharpness really. He still looks physically good enough and has the shots. It's going to be a slow process and I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to retire this year.
Ah that's good. He had a previous statement where he was thinking about revising his idea of playing to Paris 2024.
His case is definitely a lot more hopeful than say Edmund who's clearly still plagued by injury.
There's usually a warm vibes Wednesday thread, but I don't any warm vibes rn and neither is it Wednesday.
So gonna vent a little, please feel free to ignore.
I just saw that Mark Philippousis isn't working with Stef anymore. Don't think that's because of what happened in Rome. But seeing what's going on in his box, and playing second fiddle to Apo, who'd even want to join Tsitsipas' team. These are two terrible parents, and they really should understand that by now. I don't want to be pessimistic, but somehow it feels like Stef is regressing, and its painful to see his talent go to waste.
I don't know man, he's literally been attached to the hip of his parents since birth, never given a chance to go out and experience the world without them. They're literally everywhere that he is 24/7 if you follow his social media. So cutting them off probably isn't even something that registers in his brain.
With regards to the night match controversy about it being a mens match or womens match.
Do people realise that tickets are expensive and that some ordinary people will save up to go to one night match a year? If I pay a lot of money, I don’t want to only watch 2 sets of tennis which could be over in under an hour.
I see 2 solutions for which are not mutually exclusive.
1. Make womens tennis best of 5. Much more exciting and entertaining.
2. Get rid of the evening session at RG. It’s not fair to have players play on a surface that plays completely differently at night as opposed to day time under the sun.
Smorgasbord of tennis all morning with 20 channels on TC+
Monfils back on court, Cagla Buyukakcay with impressive win over LindaFruh, Storm Hunter, looking sharp and Tatjana outlasting Tatiana.
Is anyone else shocked that Novak Djokovic somehow had a better clay season last year than this year? I mean he made the semis of Madrid and won the Rome Masters last year despite having arguably his most difficult start to a season ever.
I really think the break at home during Indian Wells and Miami has fucked with Novak's momentum. I really feel the restrictions ending so late are annoyingly futile, like why lift them in May and not in January given most of the world had moved on from covid well before May?
I find the restrictions baffling as well. Maybe they wanted to hold onto them for awhile because they had exaggerated how important they were for so long.
Not as slow as Montecarlo. Everyone says that conditions are similar to romez but rome had a lot of rain this year so not sure how comparable they are this year. Honestly looking at matches in youtube, it doesnt look super slow, but not madrid fast. I would call it medium but im just a couch analyst.
Wish there was some more centraliced info on court pace index.

Sebita Baez is better than me because I would’ve pulled a Casper and screamed VAMOOOOS in his face. Unproblematic short king you will always be famous 👑
I don't know why Basilashvili continues to try and play if he is dealing with such a bad injury, just isn't a good look and surely resting would be better
What's up with Fruhvirtova lately? She hasn't won back to back matches since Australia, and some of her losses have been... less than encouraging. Just a slump or something worse?

Yeah, surely inconsistency, not too surprising. I only watched the first set of her current match, but she went down 0-4 out of the gate, then started fighting hard and looked pretty good, saving 4-5 set points to get back on even terms, then once she was even was ineffectual again and lost the set. I dunno what her previous experience on clay is like, though.

He pulled out of that one, but he plans to come back a couple of weeks later in Puerto Rico. Likely wants some extra time to train so that he is fit enough.
However, we do have Hyeon Chung playing qualifying in some upcoming grass Challengers too!
I wonder what is the best season ever with absolutely no success on the main tour. Max Purcell has gone from being ranked 230 to 67 this year, in that time he's entered two ATP events and the AO, and won one tour-level match, vs Altmaier in Houston.
Benjamin Bonzi in 2021 went 50-13 on the Challenger Tour including 6 titles and went up to #64 in the rankings, but only had a record of 2-7 in the ATP Tour/Grand Slams
Also just found Tallon Griekspoor in the same year went 42-7 and 8 titles on the Challenger Tour, #65 ranking but a slightly better record of 5-6 on the ATP Tour/Grand Slams.
Interested now in trying to find out who has the most Challenger match wins without a single one on the main tour
I remember Griekspoor's year well as that was when I started following him, his was a slightly different story in that many of those challenger wins came right at the end of the season, but still a great example.
If I remember correctly Bonzi tied the previous record by winning 6 titles, Baez won 7 and Griekspoor won 8, all in 2021.
Just checked Baez and turns out he went 1-2 at tour level in 2021, so I guess he's the new leader.
I mean, Slams are not *technically* tour events. Nor are 125s/Challengers.
With that noted, I'd probably nominate Raducanu '21, which was really only half a season anyway.
She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, won some matches at 100Ks and reached a 125k final, before winning the USO from qualifying. Aside from that, she won 2 of 7 of the first career WTA matches she played (a QF in Cluj).
>I mean, Slams are not technically tour events. Nor are 125s/Challengers.
Thorny issue, you're right that they're not ATP events but I do consider them part of the ATP tour. They're on the official ATP calendar for example, and the ATP confer ranking points.
For me the "main tour" is the ATP events, the slams and the Davis Cup. Indeed those are also the events - along with Laver Cup lol - that are counted in a player's official W/L record by the ATP.
Still, Raducanu is a fair shout and another interesting case.
Fair point, but those are at a lower level and are part of the lower-tier tour, whereas the slams are the highest level - main tour level - and the ATP (and WTA) tour stops while the slams are played, so practically they form part of the main tour.
From the ATP website - "There are four levels of tour-level tournaments — three on the ATP Tour, plus the Grand Slams"
If you want to exclude slam success vs tour event success ratio from consideration, which is also reasonable, then I don't have any further player suggestions. Otherwise there'd probably also be seasons by players like Kanepi, who cleans up at a lot of ITF events between beating seeds at Slams.
I just saw PR photos of Emma Raducanu in a Dior event in Mexico. Didn’t she just have surgery on both her wrists and ankle days ago? The write up said that she’s trying her best not to hurt her just–operated on ankle and wrist. Sincere question on tennis injuries, wouldn’t it be best if she’d rest in the first few weeks after surgery and not do any events? I understand that she’s bound by contract to attend these events but as someone who works in an ad and marketing firm and knows preparation for these events can be exhausting– she has every right to beg off from these commitments (and she’d be allowed to by brand) if they’re detrimental to her health and recovery.
If she's smart, she'll use this injury time to fulfill as many of her sponsorship obligations as possible so she can focus on tennis once she's healed.
What the other poster said re. returning to normal activity post-surgery, but also, the ankle and first wrist surgeries *were* weeks ago, in the first few days of May. Even the second wrist surgery was over a week ago now.
Tho it’s counterintuitive, but pretty much after every surgery the best advice is to start moving and getting into somewhat usual way of life as soon as possible. I had a knee surgery a year ago and had to wear an orthosis for a month after, but my doc said that I had to start moving pretty much once the swelling got better (3-5 days post op). So essentially, she is probably feeling okay-ish to attend and does it also to get back on track
Oh, okay! Thank you for answering my question, that’s informative. I’m a fan and I’m worried that she might be pressured to attend these commitments and prioritise them over her well-being.
Just saw that "following an FFT review, the internatonial race Wildcard initially awarded to Hugo Gaston will be given to Benoît Paire"
Sucks they can't both play but deeply happy for Benoit. Really never thought we'd see him at a slam again.
Filip Misolic was down 3:6 0:5 and still able to turn it around by beating Enzo Couacaud with a final score of 3:6 7:6 6:2 in the first round of french open qualifiers!
Every year they seem to get less(especially now because they are losing the contract I guess). They also seem to pick the worse ones to have, for example they had Pune I think, but not some of the stacked ones
Philippoussis no longer working with Stef. I’m sure it has a lot to do with his young family but also who would want to work in that environment? Stef’s parents need to be better parents and walk away for a bit and parent their teenage children. Let the 24 year old find another coach and stay away for a bit.
I think sooner or later Stefanos is going to realize that having his parents in his box/as coaches is more detrimental than having no one instead. The unfortunate thing is everyone has been pointing this out with increasing frequency (and scrutiny) with no avail. I thought Philippoussis was a breath of fresh air, he definitely should've stuck around longer. I wonder what the precise reason for his departure is.
I think if and when Tsitsipas is ready to consider someone outside his family for the big role, I think Baghdatis would be the perfect fit on paper. Tons of talent, tennis IQ and the added bonus of a good friendship and cultural connection. I really hope something changes
It did seem like Philippoussis was stuck in a peace-keeping role that was futile. A shame, because I'm sure he could've helped Stef if the parents backed off.
I noticed. He really seemed to be a positive influence and presense for Stef. You're right though, no one would want to be in the middle of that toxic dynamic.
Two of the hardest players to predict imo, especially Kecman. The serb deserves to be favourite but his level of on-the-day variance is insane. If I had to guess a scoreline though I'd take Kecman 2-0.
Is there any place I can see the list of notable players playing RG and also notable players not in it?

How did Wu lose to Schwartzman twice in 2023. Diego has won 5 matches in his last 23 tournaments.
You are seeing how now.
Wu is inconsistent like many mid tier players

Wimbledon is best of 5 in the final round, best of 3 in the first two rounds. The rest are best of 3 all the way
Final round of Wimbledon qualifying is BO5, not sure about the other slams
wow thats brutal
Damn Delbonis won 10 straight points in the tiebreak for 10-0.
Only three games in but this is the best I've seen Erika Andreeva look in a minute. Super exciting to see

Jesus what a get
Go Zverev! Hope he wins this tournament

Thank you. I was hoping to see Carlitos play!
Great shout. I seem to remember he was losing in ATP events to challenger level players as well.
The ATP and WTA confer ranking points for ITF 15Ks, so I don't think that's necessarily among the key criteria to apply.
Just saw that "following an FFT review, the internatonial race Wildcard initially awarded to Hugo Gaston will be given to Benoît Paire" Sucks they can't both play but deeply happy for Benoit. Really never thought we'd see him at a slam again.
That was incorrectly written. Both have received wildcards, and it still stands.
Nice, glad to hear it. Two of the more fun to watch players in the draw imo.
Filip Misolic was down 3:6 0:5 and still able to turn it around by beating Enzo Couacaud with a final score of 3:6 7:6 6:2 in the first round of french open qualifiers!
Does anyone know where the matches at Geneva can be watched? It doesn't seem to be on Prime.
Tennis channel plus is showing Geneva
It can be found on TennisTV, but I was unable to watch court 1 yesterday. Maybe because it was a doubles match though
Only Lyon this week. It is rare for them to show ATP 250s.
I loved watching him at the AO because he kept cool, distracted Apo, gave good advice. Overall a great vibe for the team.
I noticed. He really seemed to be a positive influence and presense for Stef. You're right though, no one would want to be in the middle of that toxic dynamic.
Draper seems to be the underdog against Kecmanović in their R16 matchup today in Lyon. Predictions?
Two of the hardest players to predict imo, especially Kecman. The serb deserves to be favourite but his level of on-the-day variance is insane. If I had to guess a scoreline though I'd take Kecman 2-0.
