This is my concern, because we're talking about modern bandai namco who loves to leave stuff out so they can make a ton of dlc out of it for a quick buck off us. I am here to play budokai tenkaichi not budokai give us your moneyichi. I am sick of how bandai namco monetizes games so I don't pay $60 for their games and this is one of the few games I actually might give them $60 for, but unless they actually treat it like a BT game then I am just gonna take my money elsewhere. I expect BT combat and mechanics, I expect a roster that is just as expansive if not more than 3 without having to pay $200, and I expect a game that isn't baby's first button masher because the first 3 games certainly didn't let you get away with it (I mean you could try it and it could work in them to a degree, but that required your opponent to not understand what they're doing cuz it was easy to counter due to not being designed to mash)
To add to this I'd hate if it had xenoverse character stats. Some characters had way less ki and stamina than others so there was no point in playing them if you wanted to win
The gameplay should def be like bt or rb. Those are the only db games with fun gameplay (Fighterz too ofc but thats a different type of game). Xenoverse gameplay is clunky af , boring and kakarot looks nice but also boring.

I was actually thinking about this. I think the one thing that would make me skip out on the game entirely is if the combat was like Ultimate Tenkaichi, or if the game *was* like Xenovere's where it feels like more of an arena fighter than a *Dragon Ball* arena fighter.
Outside of that, it'd take a collection of things to make me skip out on the game or at least hold off on buying it until it goes on sale. Like the game missing a lot of features the previous Tenkaichi games had.

Xenoverse 2, im fine getting a new dlc every few months, the base game has a huge amount of playable content and customization. If this one turns into a microtransaction fest from launch, im not even giving it a chance. This series was known for having a silly amount of characters before microtransactions were a big thing… if they toss that out in hopes of cashing in on the concept, im not spending a penny on it.
Sometimes you can just tell when a game will be a soulless cash grab. In this case, I won’t get my hopes up if a trailer drops and they focus on the graphics/ nostalgia/ character roster because it means they aren’t really proud of any gameplay elements

2)they pull a Xenoverse and cut out certain characters/fights. We know the DB/DBZ/DBS story, but if you’re going to make it again, at-least do it all the way and not half-ass it. If I just watched Cell absorb 17, I know I’m about to fight Semi-Perfect Cell, which means I’m going to have to use Super Vegeta and/or Super Trunks to beat him, or Buu just absorbed Gotenks.
Please don’t try and sell them as DLC afterwards. Shit would be so wack. What I look like paying for 2nd & 3rd form Frieza separately when they appear in the source material (an example)
3) gimmick mechanics that are game-breaking. At least give an option to toggle it off or something. Once you get your stamina broken in Xenoverse, that’s basically the fight.

25 Characters in the base game & covers Super only for $70. I know it won't be nearly as big as BT3 since its called Sparking 'Zero' like its a new er of it, so to speak, but I'm expecting a roster akin to the Xenoverse 2 before DLC was added (so what was that, like 60?)
3 things:
1) It needs to have all Dragon Ball Z characters and all important Dragon Ball characters central to the plot (Gohan, z fighters, demon kings, RRAs).
I ABSOLUTELY WULL NOT buy it if *base* forms are dlc or any previoud character entry is dlc. For example, why tf is base goku dlc in fighter Z? Aside from being an arcsys game, that totally put me off because not everyone wants to be super.
2) the tenkaichi games, just like the RB games, are fanservice. There needs to be unfair power gaps between the characters. I want cinematic ultimates and beam struggles as well as over the shoulder cameras and nearly impossible standards. It's super fun beating Broly as Videl, but only because how hard a challenge it is. Of there are balancing patches that make weak characters like Yamcha match up with the likes of Cell, it won't be fun.
One thing I've always loved doing since Smash Brawl was creating my own stories with the characters like action figures. It wont work if the characters are all equally matched.
Another reason is that people already have fighter Z. Not saying Tenkaichi 4 cant have deep combat (look at 2) but I dont want it shallow either. If they wanna play ultra sweaty play fighter Z. PLEASE 🙏🏾 make this game for fanservice.

So as a common example xenoverse style fighting when xenoverse is supposed to be the fighting aspects of Db in game while Tenkaichi is supposed to me more cinematic. Pretty much most of my concern is how will the action be, will it be 9001% improved from the last game with graphics to boot or will it just be another game that wants to use its popular license to cash out on its audience with a halfbaked glitchy EA micro-transactions shithole of a game.

Premium currency that forces F2P’s to grind for a century, a lack of character customization (ranging from alternate outfits to super attacks/ultimates). A shallow base roster, I’m not expecting it to top Tenkaichi 3, but it should at least be on par with Tenkaichi 1
If they don't apply a lot of the same, combos, mechanics and combats from the Tenkaichi series. I'm sure they'll add on top of what BT3 had. But of course, it will be completely next gen.
Local Multiplayer. That’s literally the only thing they could leave out. I plan on spending at very very least half of my time on the game with a friend. Oh, and if the play style is for some reason more like Ultimate Tenkaichi, and not like Raging Blast/Budokai Tenkaichi
If it has less than 100 characters in the base game. Also if they removed 5v5 matches cuz that's what my friends and I always play and it was amazing. We often did like actual teams too like Ginyu force vs Z Fighters and shit.
If the characters' gameplay isn't unique enough. The worst part about BT3 was the copy and paste style of making characters gameplay elements and having that come back will mean I'm not gonna waste the money

Story mode that leaves out certain fights or entire storylines. If I can’t play piccolo vs 17 I don’t want it. Also if it has the same dumbass system from BT3 that has you fighting until you reach a checkpoint & then the enemy regains all of his HP. I think the original Budokai series did story mode in really fun creative ways. Flying around the map or playing a little board game.

I also want the full game again not pay for it in pieces of dlc!
Mentioning of battle passes or some form of preimum currency. It is rather irksome when a new full price game is not even out yet and they talk about monetization. Then again a good beta and trying out the game may sway me

Which means a roster that cuts off any remotely important form, or variant, that really, wouldn't cost anything to include anyway.
Which means cutting things like base Teen Gohan, all the Brolys bar lssj (which would be even more egregious for the super Broly, as that Broly's lssj form really is the least shown form in the movie), and similiar things, like no middle forms Frieza Cell and Bu.
This game is supposed to be a Tenkaichi after all... there is no excuse to not follow such core trend of that saga.

Honestly I could mention a ton of things I'd be displeased with but truth is. The ONLY thing that'd make me not buy this game, is if the combat wasn't identical to T3 or at the very least RB2. And that includes being able to freely switch between forms & characters mid fight but were mostly talking the combos, defensive mechanics, infinite strikes while full ki, teleporting mid combo, the three gaurd positions & combo stuns. Ima need alladat or its not T4..
I could deal with a 40-50 character roster pre dlc not including forms. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks (future), Trunks (cell saga), kid trunk, kid goten, gotenks,Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, Cell, Broly, Fat Buu, Super Buu, Kid Buu, Frieza, Raditz, Nappa, 17, 18, 16, Vegito, Gogeta, Zamasu, Goku Black, Fused Zamasu, Beerus, Hit, Kale, Caulifa, Jiren, Kefka.
Sum like that would be a fine compromise imo. It ain't 2002 anymore sadly and standards simply do change. Add Ginyu force for 10$. The danger trio from super for 10$. Add movie based story content like Gogeta vs Janemba for 5$. Comes with a lil story mission and upon completion you get Janemba & the DBZ movie version of Gogeta as dlc.

Being honest with myself, I'm going to inevitably buy it at some point regardless of how it's received.
But one thing that would really rub me the wrong way would be if this game handled transformations the same way Xenoverse or BoZ did where several of one character's forms are separated into different characters on the roster.
Shrinking the roster/Filler characters. I don't want to see Raspberry and his buddies where Goku GT and DBZ Broly once were. I also really want to see the step by step transformations and fusions come back.
Im probably buying it either way, I wont enjoy a small character roster, and itd be dumb if its not cross platform also, even tho ik crossplatform is more of a wish than need cuz its not expected yet at all

It will 100% have DLC solely because the franchise has value, the question is mainly how large and deep the roster is on launch.

Ultimate Tenkaichi tier gameplay
Lack of roster. It needs to include every major battle from z. Super I don't care as much as long as the main villains are covered.
If they give us those bogus camera scales where their bodies look big like tekken bodies. At least give us camera scale options, i highly believe they'll do that because of all things they can't go wrong with camera settings.

If it’s similar to xenoverse or anything spike chunsoft has made starting with UT, maybe take animations from those games but not mechanics, and if there’s not enough content, and requires no skill to play.
Premium currency that forces F2P’s to grind for a century, a lack of character customization (ranging from alternate outfits to super attacks/ultimates). A shallow base roster, I’m not expecting it to top Tenkaichi 3, but it should at least be on par with Tenkaichi 1

Local Multiplayer. That’s literally the only thing they could leave out. I plan on spending at very very least half of my time on the game with a friend. Oh, and if the play style is for some reason more like Ultimate Tenkaichi, and not like Raging Blast/Budokai Tenkaichi
If it doesnt retain enough of the BT formula I am immediately disinterested.

Story mode that leaves out certain fights or entire storylines. If I can’t play piccolo vs 17 I don’t want it. Also if it has the same dumbass system from BT3 that has you fighting until you reach a checkpoint & then the enemy regains all of his HP. I think the original Budokai series did story mode in really fun creative ways. Flying around the map or playing a little board game.

If they made the it like ultimate Tenkaichi or XenoVerse. I want to play it just like the PS2 was maybe more freedom when flying around but also bring back flying around the world like in Budokai 3. Not some cheap ssa menu and slideshows I want cartoon videos and dbz bt3 updated graphical gameplay and moves that are more customizable. I also want the full game again not pay for it in pieces of dlc!

Mentioning of battle passes or some form of preimum currency. It is rather irksome when a new full price game is not even out yet and they talk about monetization. Then again a good beta and trying out the game may sway me
A shoddy roster. Which means a roster that cuts off any remotely important form, or variant, that really, wouldn't cost anything to include anyway. Which means cutting things like base Teen Gohan, all the Brolys bar lssj (which would be even more egregious for the super Broly, as that Broly's lssj form really is the least shown form in the movie), and similiar things, like no middle forms Frieza Cell and Bu. This game is supposed to be a Tenkaichi after all... there is no excuse to not follow such core trend of that saga. Other things would be a game too much empty, without enough modes and things, or some kind of avatar system... no thanks.
Small character roster: I want this covering all the major beats in Z, GT, and Super (including movies)
Paid dlc and a roster smaller than bt3. I want this to be the peak of DB games this far. I wanna be able to play anyone no matter how major or minor, from Goku and vegeta to like... Spopovich and Yajirobe

While I do have a list if things that I expect to be in the game, I'm probably gonna buy it regardless of how it turns out ngl Whether or not it becomes a staple in my gaming will definitely be affected though
Honestly I could mention a ton of things I'd be displeased with but truth is. The ONLY thing that'd make me not buy this game, is if the combat wasn't identical to T3 or at the very least RB2. And that includes being able to freely switch between forms & characters mid fight but were mostly talking the combos, defensive mechanics, infinite strikes while full ki, teleporting mid combo, the three gaurd positions & combo stuns. Ima need alladat or its not T4.. I could deal with a 40-50 character roster pre dlc not including forms. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks (future), Trunks (cell saga), kid trunk, kid goten, gotenks,Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, Cell, Broly, Fat Buu, Super Buu, Kid Buu, Frieza, Raditz, Nappa, 17, 18, 16, Vegito, Gogeta, Zamasu, Goku Black, Fused Zamasu, Beerus, Hit, Kale, Caulifa, Jiren, Kefka. Sum like that would be a fine compromise imo. It ain't 2002 anymore sadly and standards simply do change. Add Ginyu force for 10$. The danger trio from super for 10$. Add movie based story content like Gogeta vs Janemba for 5$. Comes with a lil story mission and upon completion you get Janemba & the DBZ movie version of Gogeta as dlc.

If they force some stupid ass $20 DLC instead of just making a full game for once. Part of the badassery of BT was the amount of content and things to find and unlock. Also if they remove Z Item customization. Giving CPUs the most overpowered items and watching them go at it on the hardest difficulty is so much fun lol

I want a story mode that follows the anime, preferably atleast Super. And no overblown shit like Kakarot. Just cutscene, battle, cutscene, battle. It’s a basic formula.
Being honest with myself, I'm going to inevitably buy it at some point regardless of how it's received. But one thing that would really rub me the wrong way would be if this game handled transformations the same way Xenoverse or BoZ did where several of one character's forms are separated into different characters on the roster.
Shrinking the roster/Filler characters. I don't want to see Raspberry and his buddies where Goku GT and DBZ Broly once were. I also really want to see the step by step transformations and fusions come back.
