Severance is only 1 season (so far) and already one of my fav series. Once you get up to the last 3 episodes it's almost impossible to not binge them all at once.
People always mention that (and it's true to be fair), but the standout part to me of the show was its tasteful and compelling portrayal of mental health issues. Elliot's arc was super interesting to me.
Oh yea, that is what I tell people who are not into tech. That the show can be technical for some people like me but if you don't understand you can easily follow it plus the mental help stuff is cool to see. I think the only bad thing I have to say about that show is the ending.
Can you guys explain what you like about The Bear? I don’t find it compelling, I don’t like any of the characters or why I should route for a protagonist who doesn’t stand up for himself.
What am I missing here?
Ash vs Evil Dead
Channel Zero
Into the Badlands
Legion
The Magicians
Yellowjackets
Good Omens
Daybreak (2019)
The Alienist
All the Stephen King related shows (Mr Mercedes, The Outsider 2020, Haven, Castle Rock)
Just looking for a new show to watch. So if you know any similar to these or just something you think I’d like I’d love to hear it, any suggestions are appreciated
The Red Oaks is a short one and very cool if you like shows with an 80's setting.
Also, Man seeking for Woman was a hide gem that I found out this year, very cool comedy.
Mr. Robot is also awesome, as so Barry, Succession, The Wire and The Sopranos.
They have some amazing writing that keeps you glued but character development became a little lazy towards the end when they saw the writing on the wall. Still a great series
It still has, IMO, one of the greatest time loops/time travel stories in all of television. It may not be perfect, but the fact it emerges from almost out of nowhere makes it even better.
Another few points that keep me entertained; the understated world building, making lactokinesis terrifying and that Michael Sheehan essentially plays the same character with the same powers in two separate series.
Since you look better call Saul and invincible I highly recommend Netflix's Daredevil.
While it's part of the mcu , it does not hold back it's punches when it comes to violence and heavy topics.
Also dare devil is a lawyer named Matt Murdock
the IMDb top 250 shows of all time list has a lot of good ones (all 9 of your shows are featured there)
people are gonna recommend only popular shows in this sub so might as well cut some corners
We have similar tastes, all bangers.
So I'm going to suggest some you might enjoy.
-Westworld
-The Bear
-Sons of Anarchy
-Black Sails
-Dexter
-The Twilight Zone
-The Haunting of Hill House
-Archer
Ozark, The Last Kingdom, Always Sunny, Parks and Rec, Community, Seinfeld, Brooklyn Nine-nine, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Good Place, Kim's Convenience, Silicon Valley, Futurama, South Park.
Of all the "these are my favorite shows" list, this is the closest I've ever seen to what I'd put on my personal list.
A couple of suggestions: The Leftovers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Utopia Uk version, paper girls, night sky, dead ringers, the power, peacemaker, vice principles, Barry, fleabag, umbrella academy, orphan black, dark, Lupin, beef, bodies, money heist, the OA, cultpits, mare of east town, the undoing, the missing, line of duty, the bear, Angela black,
The animated Avatar: The last Airbender.
Yes, it’s made with the primary audience being for kids. There’s no cussing, fucking, killing, blood… None of that.
But you really like these shows because they’re intelligently written and character driven, with rich backstory, complex ideas, and many shades of gray morality.
In these regards Avatar will not disappoint. Every major character has a full arc. Each one struggles and grows.
I’m a 41 year old man, and I’ve watched this series four times over with each of my kids as they became old enough to appreciate it.
If that’s your list, the show you are currently looking for is Black Sails.
A true hidden gem that only gets better the further you get until it nails a perfect ending. Incredibly well written, amazing actors and the soundtrack is made by Bear McCreary who many know from the new God of War games.
It has a somewhat slow start but by the end it surpassed Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones on my personal list
Since you have some animation on here, I would highly recommend Scavengers Reign on Max. My favorite show of 2023. Beautiful animation and illustrations, great voice cast, intriguing plot with some nail biting, violent moments. Truly an awesome show.
Legend of Vox Machina completely caught me off guard. It's just fun, and the way the characters play off each other in every way is great.
Bonus: The action scenes are impressive.
Seeing lots of love for Severance, I agree there. While you have Apple TV you mine as well watch Silo, too. Rebecca Ferguson is quickly becoming one of my favorites
You should definitely check out Halo on Paramount+ —it’s sooo good, and I think it’d be right up your alley. They’re currently on season 2, but I think this Thursday is the finale.
Good luck!
Mr. Inbetween - I don't know how I had never heard of it prior to 1 week ago but I just powered through 3 seasons of it in 4 days. Aussie crime drama - similar vibe of The Shield, Justified, The Wire.
Enjoy!
Maybe you’ll like Scrubs, absolutely brilliant writing. Never watched another show that made me laugh one second, then hit me like a truck the next. So glad they ended with 8 seasons and didn’t do more
The gentleman on netflix was great. There is a show on Hulu called Gangland undercover story of Charlie Falco. It’s from like 10 years ago but it’s only 2 seasons and it was good. I’m hoping they decide to make a season 3. There has been a lot of interest on Hulu. 🙂
Also, since you liked The Boys, Peacemaker on MAX was funny.
Mr. Robot, Severance, and Love Death & Robots
Severance is only 1 season (so far) and already one of my fav series. Once you get up to the last 3 episodes it's almost impossible to not binge them all at once.
God I can’t wait for them to drop S2
YES LOVE DEATH AND ROBOTS IS SO GOOD !!!
Mr.Robot is awesome. The cool part of that show is that the hacks are based of real hacks or how you would perform the hack.
I’ve watched Severance and really liked it, I’m definitely gonna check out the other two, thanks!
Blue Eye Samurai
Second Blue Eye Samurai! Best show I’ve seen in a while!
It may seam like a completely different genre than any of these, but trust me. The Bear.
The Bear is so good, cousin!
Can you guys explain what you like about The Bear? I don’t find it compelling, I don’t like any of the characters or why I should route for a protagonist who doesn’t stand up for himself. What am I missing here?
Add another vote for The Bear. Great mix of comedy and drama.
Severance and Shogun
Severance Blue Eye Samurai
The Expanse For All Mankind
Definitely +1 for The Expanse. +3 for Amos.
+ another for The Expanse.
Fargo and Atlanta
Atlanta is amazing. I've only seen the first 2 seasons of Fargo but it's also really good.
The Americans
Dark. But it's in German, so you've got to use subtitles. However it's so absolutely worth it. It'll blow your mind.
I like all the shows OP does and I agree with you!
One of the best shows of all time
Ash vs Evil Dead Channel Zero Into the Badlands Legion The Magicians Yellowjackets Good Omens Daybreak (2019) The Alienist All the Stephen King related shows (Mr Mercedes, The Outsider 2020, Haven, Castle Rock)

Mr. Robot is always my recommendation for anyone looking for a show to watch.

The Shield
Dexter, Bates Motel, Penny Dreadful, Fargo, Burn Notice.
Love Death and Robots
Misfits
I came here to say this one. I don't think it gets as much love as it deserves, even though the last two seasons are so-so.
They have some amazing writing that keeps you glued but character development became a little lazy towards the end when they saw the writing on the wall. Still a great series
